The appeal of using Oceanus was a magnificent one. Tydus gloried in the use of the gnosis, he loved the connection with the sea, and though his words were not complete lies, they were embittered by loss. At the base of his mind, there was love for the God of the Sea, but resentment festered and boiled over. To an extent, it even extended to the greater sea, a feat that Tydus could not quite shake or understand welling in his thoughts, plaguing him, tormenting him, but it was a fear that could not be addressed. It was too ingrained, too forceful in its invasion of his thoughts. The strength of it breached his love for the sea, his love for sailing. It crushed his heart and sank his soul, and it took the constant reminder that he was one of the last of his Pod to not allow it to simply... end. Darkness encroached as it did, it festered and haunted at Tydus' mind, the ghosts of his Pod plaguing his dreams as specters that refused to allow him sleep. It pained him to no end.
Love.
Love did not ask or plead from others. It did not beck or call, demand or need. But, for Tydus, love was a darkness that sank him into the rank of despair. For all that he loved was rotting in the depths of the sea, corpses and timber that haunted his memories as towering flames and mortifying destruction. The walk towards the ocean, Tydus holding onto the Konti lass' hand perhaps too tightly, was rather silent in nature, Tydus letting go of S'Essy only to drain several sips of rum and pour it down his throat. A relief, it was, at the very least, for the blurring at the edges of his line of sight set him free. The pleasure burning at the base of his throat made him feel... alive. A last, living soul in the midst of the dead. Cold, broken and alone. That's how life had been for Tydus until recently, and even with Adney and Kel as company, Tydus was consumed by the dread of loneliness. The dread of despair that came with it.
On their way to the ocean, Tydus had taken three more sips of rum, and the dancing of his vision in Syna's light sent the world spinning in the most glorious of averted pleasure. Tydus felt alive again, unfeeling and pleased with the progress as he let go of the Konti. They had found their way to the beaches of Riverfall, a number of people, human or otherwise, looking the Tempest over. He attracted attention as he removed his shirt, sandals, sash, gloves and pants, leaving on only the undergarments that kept him from complete exposure to the public before he sprinted.
Arms pumped, one holding the flask that Tydus treasured so deeply, the other clenched tightly into a fist as his legs carried him forward, stride after stride separating him from S'Essy. In a matter of ticks, his knees were submerged, and he took the chance to dive into the water fully, his body sinking into the depths of the ocean, kicking furiously as he turned underneath the water like a fish. The freedom that the sea provided was a glorious paradise, gravity's oppression of the body vanquished by the cool ocean's waters. The Tempest's words were garbled the first time he spoke, calling out the woman's name with a lazy flick of his hand, though he quickly changed his mind.
He rose from the water, the level easily reaching his nipples at the point he remained at, a laugh escaping his lips before he called out,
"Teh water's great! Come'n, lass! Surely a lovely fish like yerself isn' afraid?"
If she could see the Tempest's face clearly, S'Essy would notice Tydus winking at her just before he dove beneath the water again, kicking out furiously beneath him as the luminous radiance of Oceanus made itself known to him. The presence of fish shone in the blurred reaches of his gaze, alerting him to the presences of hundreds of smaller life forms, fish and their ilk, though the most intriguing piece was the coral that flared in his vision, swaying gently in the water.
It was nothing short of beautiful, but it was terrifying, as well. Tydus shook with both fear and excitement for several chimes longer before the alcohol took hold entirely and his mind became completely numb to it all.
