[Fletcher's Corner] Friendly Encounter (Azira)

Once she was done with her work. Alecis had gathered up her things and made her way to her home. It wasn't much of a long walk from her work to home ,so she didn't rush. Her plan was to go home, gather her short bow and go out for practice with her short bow. Soon waling into her home, she had set down her sack in the corner and opened up her chest. Pulling out her bow and three arrows. She didn't know really how to travel with these so she stretched out the string of the bow and placed it over her head. The string of her bow rested on her chest while the back of it rested on her back.

She decided to just carry the arrows instead since she had no place to put them. Her goal put a fire in her. Something that kept her going. She smiled a little as she thought about her possible future. She could be an Aora, a huntress that would have her own eagle to mount. Her thoughts made up for the time , and by the time she could stop thinking of her dreams she was at her destination. Letting out a sigh of relief , she began to set up the arrow in to the bow. Though she had some trouble since the arrow kept falling out of place.

[Fletcher's Corner] Friendly Encounter (Azira)

Azira didn't want to be here. If she had any way out of it then she wouldn't be here. She'd decided that her two apprentices could do with some archery practice and the following day wouldn't do as the second enclave training was on. They were in Fletcher's Corner instead of Second Quiver because her apprentices preferred it. They were used to it, particularly Wilem, as it was the range they had used as Yasi. The huntress had let it slide this time with the intention of easing them into the new Avora range.

She didn't have to be there with them, and would prefer not to be, but they'd need her guidance. It was important that she stay and keep an eye on them. Wilem was probably all right, he was better with a bow than herself but Aleisa still needed practice. She had the basics but the girl still made small mistakes in her posture and she was also hoping that if the girl got used to shooting then she might manage to kill something in the future. Starting with "killing" targets might help with killing things for real.

Wilem was concentrating on his shooting, doing a surprisingly good job too, probably to try to impress his mentor but it wasn't working. Aleisa was slow about setting up each shot and so Azira found her eyes wandering over the others in the ranges. Her apprentices were fine without her guidance for the moment so why couldn't she be curious about what others were doing?

Her eyes found a young woman, probably a Chiet by her style of dress. She was trying to nock the arrow but she was failing miserably. Azira frowned. Why was the woman in the range if she clearly couldn't shoot? She couldn't even get the arrow in the bow so there wasn't a hope of her getting a shot off. Perhaps she had been terrible at archery as a Yasi and had only recently taken it up again having forgotten all the basics. Maybe she could just give a bit of advice but was it really any of her business? And did she really care? Well she was trying to be nicer to people...

Making up her mind, the huntress said a quick word to her apprentices and then walked to stand beside the Chiet. "Excuse me but would you like a hand?"

[Fletcher's Corner] Friendly Encounter (Azira)

Postby Alecis on January 2nd, 2014, 4:06 pm

Alecis looked up from her struggling. The end of the arrow helplessly hanging down from the string of the bow. Her eyes gazed upon the woman who had approached her, then slowly shifting toward where she had came from. She then looked back at her then at her clothes. "If your not to busy, could you help me learn to shoot a bow." She gave the woman a wide smile before taking the arrow that was hanging from the string and setting it free.

"You see, it's been a dream of mine...since I was a yasi. " Alecis knew she was an Avora. The way she dressed, the look in her eye on how to use a bow. Seeing the two behind her , sealed in her assumption that she as a huntress. This would be the perfect time to ask for help, for her to train her or maybe become friends. Why let such a sweet deal go away. "My name is Alecis by the way."

The huntress paused, considering the request of the Chiet woman before her. So she wanted her help. Well she had offered so it was her own fault but she hadn't expected the woman to teach her how to do everything. She couldn't have gotten away with giving her a few pointers as it was obvious that she hadn't a clue what she was doing. The Avora found herself nodding even as the woman began to tell her her dream for the future. Azira couldn't care less about the woman's dream, only taking notice of her name before pulling her own bow from her back. She had her bow and quiver with her in case she had to demonstrate something. Seems it was a wise decision.

"Azira. Watch me while I explain," she told Alecis. Shifting into the right stance, she moved her bow around, held it in a firm grip and reached for an arrow, holding it close to the string. "Before you even attempt to shoot the arrow, you need the right stance. Stand perpendicular to the target. I'm left eye dominant, my stronger eye is my left in other words, so I hold the bow in my right hand and point my right shoulder towards the target. So I use my left hand for handling the arrow and pulling back the string. If you're right eye dominant then the positions are reversed. Place your feet shoulder width apart and stand straight without any tension in your muscles."

The stance came easily to the huntress now, her body well used to falling into the familiar pose. She might not be able to shoot straight all the time but she could manage the right posture without a problem. Pointing the bow downwards, she slipped the arrow into the arrow rest of the bow before slipping the string into the notch near the base of the arrow.

"You always point the bow downwards before you do anything else. There's a slot on the bow itself, the arrow rest and the shaft of the arrow rests in there. The string goes in the nock, that's the notch, at the base of the arrow. Once you've done that, you've nocked the arrow. You hold the arrow in place with your index finger above and your middle and ring fingers below. Try it and practise it a few times before I show you to shoot," Azira explained. Her eyes met the curious looks of her apprentices but a sharp look sent them back to their work.

[Fletcher's Corner] Friendly Encounter (Azira)

Postby Alecis on January 4th, 2014, 2:00 am

As she began to talk Alecis had lowered her bow and her arrow. Her full attention was on Azira as she began to explain the stance. Watching her, Alecis watched intensely and taking in notes. Since her right eye was dominant she would hold the bow in her left. When Azira moved on to the placement of the bow she looked down at her own. Seeing the placement and where the arrow should be placed.

Alecis looked up when she began to explain what to do before shooting. It would make sense because you wouldn't want to accidently shoot someone. When Azira finished her explanation and told her to give it a try, she gave a short nod of the head and stepped back a few from her. She first got in to her stance. She stood perpendicular to her target just as Azira had explained. Her dominant eye was the right so she held her bow in her left hand. She pointed her right shoulder toward the target then resumed relax herself.

After nocking the arrow she held it downwards just like she was told. Finding this to be somewhat of what Azira had explained, Alecis looked up toward her. "Like this?"

[Fletcher's Corner] Friendly Encounter (Azira)

The huntress watched the Chiet comply with her instructions. Her movements were a little clumsy and slower than Azira's would have been but she managed to nock the arrow and hold it in place. Her body was fairly relaxed as well so the Avora nodded in approval. "Yeah, like that. Just relax your shoulders a little bit more. It'll make shooting easier, less strain on your shoulders," the huntress explained. The woman looked as if she had the strength in her arms to actually fire an arrow so she decided to show her how to actually shoot. It seemed likely that the woman had some skill though perhaps the practice was her only problem. She seemed to get into a shooting stance easily enough so it seemed a good idea to teach her.

Rolling her shoulders so as to release the tension in them, Azira returned to the shooting stance and drew the bow up, pulling the string back to her cheek and taking aim. She moved the bow so that she was aiming closer to the centre then released it. It landed a good few inches from the bull's eye but it wasn't too bad so she straightened and allowed herself a small smile before turning back to Alecis.

"Now to shoot you need to raise the bow obviously. The ideal is to raise the bow and draw at the same time but that takes rather a lot of practise and is pretty hard to do so try raising and then drawing if that's easier. When you pull back the string, it should be around your face. It depends on your height and where the bow comes up to but mine is level with my cheek when I pull it back. Some people it pulls back to their chin, some people aim for the corner of their mouth, some pull it to their ear. It depends," the huntress explained, shrugging. "Then you aim and shoot. Sounds easy but you have to keep the bow steady when you release so you don't skew your arrow, easier said than done."

Azira looked curiously at the woman then, wondering how she had some skill, yet couldn't seem to shoot alone. "Surely you learned all this as a Yasi, right?"

[Fletcher's Corner] Friendly Encounter (Azira)

"Relax them more." Alecis commented as she tried to relax more and lose the tension. She was already quite frustrated that it took her time to put the arrow in the nock but it made her happy when she was able to do it. Her smile grew wider when Azira said her stance was clumsy but good. She nodded her head as she explained how to shoot an arrow. Her stance may have been easy to get but brining up the bow and pulling the string was harder.

Alecis got back into her stance, pulling the string as she brought up the bow, she had leveled it with the middle of her ear. Her hands were shaking to much and she could feel herself loosing the grip on her bow so she brought it back down. "It is hard, to keep it steady." She gave a slight chuckle before retrying. Leveling it once more with the middle of her ear, she was able to hold the bow but not without shaking a little. Taking a deep breathe Alecis released the arrow. Because she shook to much the arrow landed on the far right away from Aziras.

Though most would be disappointed that the arrow didn't make it close to the bulls eye, she was quite happy. Her excitement came from her actually shooting the arrow and it landing on the target. " I had some training in the Yasi but when I found out the woman that came to the Yasi chose a different child to take in I had decided to stop trying so hard." Alecis looked up at the woman after taking in a few deep breaths. " I practice after my work though, I still plan to become one but I'll have to work my way up."

I enjoyed the thread despite it not being finished. It was fun to see into Azira's mind and her reluctantly teaching Alecis the basics. Please update your post in the grade request thread to show this thread as completed. :D
