Considered one of the most mysterious cities in Mizahar, Alvadas is called The City of Illusions. It is the home of Ionu and the notorious Inverted. This city sits on one of the main crossroads through The Region of Kalea.

Kuvarakh took a cloth from his pocket and folded it a few times, placing it upon the target body's forehead. He did the same thing with the chin, aligning his mouth over that of the dead Kirby. There was still lip contact, but it would not press to where teeth might actually rupture the lips when full relaxation was achieved.

Though it was rarely discussed, even between Nuits, the vulnerability to jokes about his manhood, while "kissing" another man, was one reason the ritual was kept so private; the flow of white fluid inviting lewd comments best avoided. The fact that the extremities had to be aligned with the receiving body's counterparts made it impossible for the incumbents to prop themselves up, so a degree of sealed lip contact was regrettably necessary.

The meditative state was slow to build, and it was in two parts. The first was the external considerations of maintaining physical positioning. The meditation being a sort of sensory memory of the contact when position was first achieved, and a subconscious reaction to any change in that contact, to bring it back to the memorized alignment.

When this became second nature, the focus redirected to a sort of "awareness" of the entire body. He'd start at the feet, and when he felt his awareness encompassed every part of them, he moved into his ankles, and into his calves, and on and on until he reached the very top of his head.

This was a major portion of the time spent, as each portion brought with it the "code" of ichor assimilation needed to animate the corresponding part of the receiving body. There was a pressure that accompanied this slow transfer of bodily "cartography", that was the actual movement of ichor. This movement not only carried the "body memory" of the incumbent physicality, but the life memories as well.

Kuvarakh always had visions of a sort, as this process ran its course. Memories of times spent in the many bodies he'd inhabited since first becoming a Nuit. It was similar to the phenomenon of having one's life "flash before their eyes", but encompassed a much longer existence. There were no memories from the persons who'd had the bodies prior to Kuvarakh's entry, and it was his impression that the longer a Nuit went on, the longer this ritual took, as there was so much more memory, mentally encrypted in the ichor, to transfer over.

But that was just conjecture. He'd never sat down and timed his transfer against that of another Nuit. Not only was it far too private an affair to sully with such irrelevant concerns. There was no guarantee that "recovery time" was of uniform duration between Nuits. Also, he did not trust other Nuits enough to put himself at the risk of potential betrayal and death. A Nuit in the midst of this ritual was at the utmost of vulnerability.

These things did not really register in his mind during this transfer though. The fact that Maya was present did not bother him in that way. She had nothing to gain with his removal. There was no competition for available bodies between him and her. Nor were their any aspects of her life that she might feel threatened by the possibility of him exposing, that he was aware of.

After the two meditative goals were achieved, the pressure of the ichor, built up in the upper body, drove memories from Kuvarakh's mind, and an odd disorientation took hold. As the ichor flowed from one body to the other, so did the perspective of awareness. From the beginning there was the sense of lying face down, atop another body. There was a good bell of muddled perspective as the exchange of ichor went on, then it began to clear into a sense of lying on his back, with the weight of a body lying on top of him.

This triggered a lengthy, instinctive, body-wide attempt to assimilate the new body, resulting in numerous twitches as nerve endings were tweaked with animating energy. It took a great deal of time to fully encrypt the body memory into the receiving vessel, and to make adjustments to account for the physical differences. The better part of a full season was spent slowly incorporating a Nuit's "self" into its full capacity for movement and mental capability.

Wanda arrived at the shop in the early bells of morning to find Kuvarakh breathing steadily, but not moving beyond twitches, in the body that arrived the previous day. She also saw Maya, asleep in a chair nearby, insightful sketches having slipped from relaxed hands to join a few sticks of charcoal on the floor.

She smiled, unsure of which ritual participant to awaken first. She chose Maya...

Well in Hand (Aislyn)

Aislyn woke with a start. She had always been a light sleeper, and had heard many complaints of it from her mother. The slightest creek or footstep in the vicinity of her body brought her back to consciousness, no matter how deep sleep had taken her. Though that wasn’t always a good thing, as falling back asleep was almost always harder than waking up. Then again, it didn’t seem like she would be needing sleep any more that day. Or night. Whatever time it was now, Aislyn couldn’t really tell.

Rubbing at her eyes, the woman looked up to see who had woken her up. She was met with the sight of Wanda, a wide smile positioned on her face, despite the early hour. Aislyn tried to return the smile, but her sleep-clouded mind turned it into a grimace. She hadn’t slept well, as one would assume, considering she was sleeping in a room with what could be two dead bodies and a chair in place of a bed. Not that she was complaining. She’d rather sleep uncomfortably than be uninformed of whether any problems occurred with the transfer.

As she picked up the beginning of her things to repack, Aislyn yawned out a sentence at Wanda.
”Do you know how much longer Kuvarakh will take? I mean, until he can walk… Speak.” She shrugged, ”Until he regains motor skills… Things like that.”

The woman rubbed sleep from her eyes, mentally checking if her illusions were still in place. She didn’t usually sleep as Maya, but the disguise came so easily to her after so many years of practice, it seemed unconsciousness didn’t interrupt it. At least, Aislyn could only assume it didn’t interrupt it. Wanda had addressed her as Maya, and didn’t seem to notice any flaws in her appearance, so there was that. She would have to find an excuse to check up on the illusion later, but for now, she was going to have to trust in her subconscious not to mess anything up.

Picking herself up and de-wrinkling her clothes, Aislyn cast a glance at the pair of bodies she could only assume contained Kuvarakh’s soul. It was strange, knowing where the man was, yet, at the same time, having no idea where he resided. Was he in his old body? Was he in Kirby’s? She never knew.

Smiling at Wanda, Aislyn nodded at Kuvarakh- whichever body he might have been in.
”Do you think I should stay? I don’t want to intrude, but I’d like to be here when he wakes up, if he will soon. To make sure the glyphs took well, and all that.”

Wanda laughed lightly and patted Maya's shoulder, moving around behind to massage her neck, which she knew from experience would be kinked drastically after sleeping in the chair. "You may as well forget about seeing him up and around any time today. Unless you did Waaaaay better than I did when I did those glyphs, he'll hardly be on his hands and knees by the time you are getting ready for bed tonight. Don't feel bad though, I see him twitching all over, so it looks like it took."

She went over to the Nuit, slowly rolling him over, off of the old body. His face was going through some very sight contortions as cheek, brow and jaw muscles got rudimentary signals from the new operating brain. The eyes rolled sporadically, and he occasionally swallowed. "He's not breathing yet," Wanda observed, "but that will come in time."

She looked back at Maya, suddenly concerned that the girl may be worried about some respiratory malfunction. "They don't breathe anyway, so it's nothing to worry about, just in case you were. The CAN breathe. And they do in order to speak, so the muscles around their lungs have to work. But they don't need to breathe to live."

She looked back at the two bodies on the floor. One of them was completely lifeless, and seemed to have a rotted many days' worth in just the last couple of bells. The other was randomly twitching, like a recent death still purging nervous activity.

Wanda went down to the storeroom below and returned with a thick blanket. She spread it out and pointed out a glyph sewn into the corner. "This glyph will make this blanket puff up like a mattress...well, a sponge, really. That's what it's transmuted from, the glyph holds the trigger to release it. He'll have to make another one, but it's pretty routine for him by now."

Wanda smiled and looked over at Maya. "I'll tell you what, just help me get...uhh...NEW Kuvarakh onto this blanket, and help me get old Kuvarakh onto the shop cart. The priests at the Temple are very understanding about providing graves for his old bodies. Of course, it costs forty gold for the service of having a couple of acolytes dig the thing, but it's coming out of his pay anyway. In fact, here...take another forty for your trouble."

She handed the girl a small bag of coins. There was a soft moan from the "Kirby" body, and Wanda smirked, "Oh look, his ears are working!"

Oh man, you had me giggling up a fit with your little Body Transfer jokes, haha. Very nice. Overall, nicely done! You have a fluid writing style that I enjoy. In the future, please try to avoid emphasis using all capital letters. If you want to emphasize something more than just italics, feel free to bold them as well! Great job!

Aislyn is a curious little lady, isn't she? You have an easy writing style, a stream of consciousness that I enjoy following down the little rabbit holes of her own thoughts! While I think you were fine with keeping the Maya illusion up since you were probably within your 10ish hour limit, be a little careful with that. Good work!

Final notes: A touching (and kinda gross) little thread! Their inherent comfort with each other is pretty adorable, and I loved Aislyn's struggle with her deception and Kuvarakh's just windy little explanation like nothing is wrong. Haha. Minor thing that's more of a preference; when you're writing conversations, feel free to do shorter posts. There was a little bit of assuming going on when it came to responses, and that often can make it a little difficult to get a feel for the interaction both when you read it and when you write. Aside from that - which you ended up moving away from anyway - it was a good read, and it's certainly a great start to my time here in Alvadas, so thank you!

If you have any questions about your grades, just shoot me a PM!
