There were few decisions better made than those in the heat of the moment. At least such was the case in those moments they shared. Their affections were mutual, lust unbridled, and all outside their small realm encompassed within the mist was long forgotten. Flesh to flesh, they became one and the same. They were synchronized in body and soul. Equals, if her culture's influence on her mentality would allow it. Tanned hands braced themselves upon the warm strength of his chest as they moved with one another. And when he rose to turn their passionate dance into one of embrace, she did not refuse him. Arms wrapped around his back, pink lips parted and pressed against his all in the melody they composed with each other.

There was a fight in the man she didn't recognized but it was one that was certainly welcomed. He didn't give into her like she thought he would. Instead he struggled with her for power, made her work for the dominance she so fervidly tried to prove was hers alone. Kaie liked the way her name sounded coming off his lips. There was sweetness there, a gentleness and a hunger all wrapped into one. Feeling the nibbles upon her neck and shoulder was invigorating for the Myrian woman. And when he turned the tables on her as she had on him moments before, she did not resist.

Back braced against the shirt he'd so kindly turned into a sheet beneath her, Kaie's hips complimented the lustful rolling of his. Lips plump from their kissing parted and exhaled hot breath upon his neck. Her hands pressed against the middle of his back, bringing his member deeper into her with every thrust. Fingers curled to claws that dug at his bare flesh. She kissed him again, eyes closed and expression one of primal bliss. The meeting of their lips broke with the pause of her own on his, parting as her breathing labored in pleasure and his name became a soft moan in his ear. Again, again, and again. Her heart raced in her chest, body arching upward into his as she neared the edge and hoped he'd make the leap with her.

And one fleeting thought entered her mind all the while: I don't ever want to leave this mist.

Her lips were sweet on his. A passion between the two as they kissed. He looked over her naked body. The exotic grace that was before him. The one he loved more then any he had ever met before. Their dance was not one of his norm. She got more out of the man, more passion and love. Unlike many of the others. He cared for her. His heart soared when he heard her voice and there was nothing that took his breath away like her touch. His eyes looked into hers as he moved. Pushing his hips against hers, the pleasure building inside of him as she said his name. Her hands clawing into his back as she reached her edge. He smiled and kissed her again.

A whisper in her ear, telling her that he loved her. As he continued with his action until he could not hold it in anymore. His release coming with hers as he gripped her hips tightly. The feeling of his breath against her skin. Until her bit into her as he arched against her. He pulled her up into his lap and sat there for a moment trying to catch his breath. A smile played across his face as he looked into Kaies eyes. He pressed his lips against hers.

He didn't want to let her go. Didn't want to feel her embrace leave him. "What now Kaie?" he said once his breath had been regained. He would release her so they both could stand and redress. His eyes would not leave her as he did. Partly afraid that she would disappear like the mist. Another just wanting to watch her grace. He walked back over to her once he was done and smiled. He wanted to hear what she had to say before they both made their escape from the graveyard, hopefully together. He would follow where ever she wanted to go.

"Do you remember our first meeting? When I asked you if you would allow me to travel with you if we ever met again? Do you remember your answer?" he asked. It was a while ago now. Their journey had separated them and brought them together again and again.

It was ecstasy, bliss, and a radiance that made her very soul high with sensation. Two lovers had risen to the heavens and collapsed into an embrace that returned them to reality once more. The end was bitter-sweet and left the exotic woman craving more of him. She pressed her lips upon his one final time as he pulled her into his lap. Then the two that had become one separated again when she conceded to pull away from him. She stood up, feeling the humidity associated with the mist rest upon her skin with the warmth from their lovemaking. Hands searched for clothing and soon enough she was dressed again. The weight of the gladius upon her hip again granted her a sense of comfort.

When he was drawn back to her, she took him by the hands and led him down into the grass with her. With a playful shove she positioned him on his back. Falling beside him, kissed him one last time before she settled her head against his chest. Eyes for once did not hesitate to close but she was in no way lingering toward unconsciousness. They were stranded in the stupid, ironic mist after all. Why not enjoy their struggle rather than stumble through oblivion blind? When he asked the question, however, she sighed.

"Of course I remember," She murmured with a stretch of her legs, amber eyes flashing open. Her head turned up to eye him cautiously. "Why do you ask?"
"Can't see shyke, gods be damned!"
"Oh, for petch's sake a' leas' watch where ya goin'!"
The Myrian's head snapped up at the sound of the voices. She rolled off her lover and her hand flashed down to grasp the handle of her blade. She looked toward Aider with no particular emotion betrayed upon her face, and then jerked her chin in the direction the two men seemed to be walking...right in their direction.

He went down into the grass with her once again. Following her lead this time. She pushed him onto his back and then met his lips. She was laying beside him all cuddled up with her head on his chest. The sensation was odd. He had no expected her to be so playful. But he was glad she was. It was a side of her he had not seen before. Her eyes closed, she seemed happy to him. He wanted to enjoy this bliss that had over taken the both of them. One hand moved to take hers and the other to run its fingers through her hair. He flashed her a smile, the beautiful face of his lover looking up at him. "Is your answer the same? If we were to leave now would you allow me to come with you?" he asked. The silence surrounding the two as they cuddled.

He released her and when she rolled away from him as the voices came. He grumbled a cruse to the gods under his voice. The one time they were together and someone had to come was the one time that she seemed to trust him more. He rolled onto his back and reached for the biggest rock he could find. Part of him just wanted to smash down the rock into the persons skull for ruining the perfect moment he might not get back. He moved oposite of her to hide behind one of the tombstones the best he could. He would wait for her. She had more experience in an actual fight and if it came to it she would know what to do.

He was not about to run. His pride was two full as the two walked into sight. His grip tightened around the rock. Ready to strike, his eyes didn't leave the two. A displeased look on the Nykians face was enough for anyone to see that he was not happy in any way. His peace wrecked by the two wanders. Who would be stupid enough to wander the mists now? He watched and waited for Kaie. Any movement she made would be followed by his own. His mind wandering at the situation that was before them. Trying to think of anything that could happen and every outcome possible.

Goddess dammit...why wouldn't think sort of fate intervene? She growled internally as she shimmied along the ground to take cover behind a tombstone, mimicking the clever thought of her partner. Amber eyes squinted in vain through the thick mist. It was almost otherworldly, and certainly made anticipation near impossible for the tensed Myrian. The future was veiled in mystery. Past experiences would hint toward peril, too. The peaceful city of Syliras was a completely different animal compared to the shyke hole that was Sunberth. Had their current situation taken place there instead, she might've thought twice before her hand even flashed to her weapon. Crime was incredibly low in the presence of the resident knighthood. Such was not the luxury here and now in the Dust Bed. There was no one worth trusting in the city, no blade she shouldn't expect constantly wavering at her back. Matthew was gone. Razkar had seemed to vanish. Though they earned her loyalty, she knew nothing of the curious pair that was Web and Bitzer. The only person she dared wholly rely on was the man only a few feet away. Aider was the only man in the city she felt she truly knew.

As if that will last.

It was an unfair thought to have but not an unjust one. No one stuck around in her life for long, especially since she ventured across the Suvan into the barbarian worlds. Her father was dead. Mercenary comrades dropped constantly as was the nature of their profession. Friends flitted out of contact by the direction of circumstance if they were indeed alive. Worst of all, the very village that raised her had little chance of still existing where she left it in the jungle. Why shouldn't she expect to lose another good thing? Perhaps it would spare her the crushing blow of his absence when he left her, one way or another. But that is not today, She reminded herself, blood beginning its protective boiling as she stared into the white-out. The toes of her boots dug into the ground, hands pressed in preparation to spring up from her hiding place when the time was right. A glance was offered toward Aider again. Part of her hoped the time would never come.

"Oi! Ova 'ere!"
"Whut?"
"Bloody shyke, just bring tha' shovel an' follow!"
"An' if anyone catches us?"
"Petch you think? Kill 'em."

They were close now, those voices. Far closer than Kaie would've liked. Already could she make out their faint silhouettes before her. She heard what she assumed to be the shovel hitting the dirt like a walking stick, signalling their advance. Adrenaline rushed into her veins, filling her muscles with anxiety and gluing her right hand to the handle of her gladius. Five more steps. Five is all they get. Then we either run, or we fight them. Her lips mouthed the count with each foot fall. At four, they paused at a tombstone a bit larger than the others. It couldn't have been more than a couple yards from their hiding place. Despite the visibility, she could already make out the the faces of the two men. More importantly she noted the weapons at their belts. Two on one were never favorable odds. She heard the shovel slam its metal head into the hard soil.

Escape.

Kaie glanced back at Aider again and jerked her head toward their backs. "Retreat," her lips mouthed to him. As quietly as she could, the Myrian lifted a bit off the dirt behind the cover of the tombstone. Her heels pivoted in the dirt, body low in a crouch as she prepared to silently dart into the mist and away from the grave robbers. If only she hadn't put her hand where she did...

Just as her left hand pressed against the tombstone to help her explode the opposite direction, the fragile cracks in the stone gave way to audible breaking. A few small chunks of limestone knocked against the tombstone face and scattered upon the grass. The shovel digging stopped. So did her heart. Petch!
"Who tha' petch's there! Come out ya shykes!"
"Aye! We know you're there!"
The Myrian woman dared not to move, only cursed furiously beneath her breath for her folly. Then there came the drawing of blades, or rather one of them merely lifted the shovel.
"'Ave it your way!"

Kaie lunged out from behind the tombstone and tore free her gladius. Her lip was curled in defiance, stance defensive, and free hand and gladius formed a guard. Her adversaries were an odd pair to be sure. The more authoritative voice belonged to that of a thick, hairy man that hardly had a neck. Most of his face was obscured by a heavy black beard. His clothes were ragged and warn, much like his scrawny partner wielding the shovel. The curved sword in his hand pointed at her was mean with a rusted edge, but in no way dull.
"Hah! Look, Kep! Just when ya thought those ol' stories ya mum used ta' tell ya were all shyke!"
"Savage bitch. Jack, she's seen our faces!"
"Ya deaf? Ya forget wha' I said before?"
The stocky leader stormed toward her and gave a wide cut at her with his weapon. The Myrian let out a grunt as their blades clashed, a shiver rocking up her arm as she held him off. Then before he could think to make another move, Kaie pivoted parallel to him and swiped her foot like a hook into the back of his leg. With a sharp shout he hit his back on the earth, but before she could capitalize on his vulnerability, she had to back pedal like a mad woman to avoid the downward smash of the shovel. The metal head of the makeshift weapon crushed the dirt where she once stood.

This is going to start getting painful...

Already was the leading digger cursing his way back to his feet. She could only hope Aider had the sense to keep from playing hero, and instead make a run for it with the distraction she had made.

He watched Kaie, looking over every inch of the Myrian he could see. All the thoughts and emotions gathering in his head. Her sudden show of trust in him. Trusting him enough for her to close her eyes, one trained in battle and war, to feel remotely safe inside of her. He gripped the rock tighter as he heard the voices. He made a promise to himself in that moment. A promise to do everything he could to stay by her side. To prove that he was worthy of whatever trust her would give her. Aider knew what he had to do as the voices grew closer. He knew that if he didn't they would. Death had not scared him before. The multiple times that the Myrian in front of him had attempted to take his life, even though they were mostly mistaken, he knew that there was no point to fearing it. If it was his time it would happen. He had not known if he would die tonight. But he got to spend the time with her, in a lovers embrace, and for that he was thankful.

He did not care what was to come in his life now. The only thing that mattered was here and now. His attention turned to the Myrian again as the voices spoke. There were two of them. At least that made the numbers a bit more fair in his mind. He just hoped that the other was equally as weak in battle as he was. He turned his makeshift weapon over in his hands. Trying to get the best grip on it as he watched her.

He read her lips and shook his head in response. His answer was obvious and his will determined. There was no way the man would run. He refused to leave her behind. He had grown tired of their chance meetings. He wanted to be able to see her whenever he damn well pleased and leaving her to fight the both of them would not allow that to happen. He watched and waited for a bit as she took off. The loud crumbling of the stone caused him to move from behind the one he hid behind. She had the twos attention long enough for him to move. Doing his best to avoid and loose stone or twigs.

He heard the clashing of metal and looked to see Kaie in battle with the larger one and the wicked curved blade in his hands. She had managed to knock him onto his arse as the other went after her with the shovel. Aider moved quickly the stone gripped tightly in his hand. He ran towards the back of the man as he rose. He lifted the rock and smashed it down against the mans shoulder. Sending him back into the dirt with a scream of pain. He lifted his foot and smashed it down on the mans face hoping to stun the man long enough for him to assist Kaie.

He moved towards the man with the shovel. He had just begun to swing it wide as Aider sneaked up behind him. Grabbing the handle of the shovel he pulled at it. The scrawnier man turned to face him with a confused look on his face. Aider spit into the mans eyes then used his weight to bull rush the man to the ground. Struggling for control over the shovel. Aider used his weight to his advantage. "Get the other one!" he shouted to Kaie. He lifted his hand and balled it up into a fist bringing it down into the other mans. He would prove that he was not as weak as she thought he was. The scrawny man pushed Aider off of him. Losing the shovel as he made an attempt to stand.

Aider swung the shovel at him. Missing as the man walked backwards. "You petching rat!" the man shouted out at Aider. Knowing that Kaie would be dealing with his friend he looked down at Aider. He pulled a dagger from his belt as Aider stood to his feet.

Aider chuckled slightly as he currently held the range advantage. He raised the shovel across his body like it was a hammer. The smile on the Nykians face showed that he was not scared of the man wielding the dagger. "The gods curse your soul" the man shouted out which cause Aider to laugh. "The gods have no purpose in my life" he said swinging the shovel wide connecting with the mans side. Causing him to stumble to the side. Aider took his moment of opportunity and charged the man again. Sending him crashing to the ground. He threw the shovel aside and let his fist rain down on the man. He felt a sharp pain that caused him to wince as he looked down at the knee. The man had struggled under Aider's weight and managed to stab him in the leg. Aider looked down at the man again with a burning hatred. He grabbed the man by the head and pulled him up only to slam his head down on a tombstone next to him. He slid back to pull the knife from his leg. Noticing several other cuts that he did not feel through the rush he had felt.

The scream diverted the woman's attention from her primary assailant. Her eyes widened as she witnessed the crushing blow of the stone against the man's body, more so when she saw the foot that sailed down into his face. Aider? Kep let out a grunt, apparently too focused on his task that he was oblivious to his leader's outcry, and tried to make another go at her. Kaie watched his muscles tense, arms starting to propel the shovel in another brutal arc that send her feet in a rush backward again. That's when her new found lover made his move. In a few ticks he had the man tackled mightily to the earth, battling for the only weapon between the two.

The other one? Awestruck and lost in her state of bewilderment over the change of events, Kaie nearly forgot about the second grave robber. She turned on her heel to find he made his way to his knees. His hands cradled his face, blood seeping between the spaces between his fingers. When he spied her gaze on him, Jack cursed and forced himself back to his feet. The blow to his head left him wobbly on his feet. When he removed his hands to pick back up his weapon, the savage saw the devastation of his horribly crooked nose. He stumbled toward her with all the bravado of any proud Sunberth denizen.
"Come on, savage, I ain't dead yet!"

"Let's see if we can't correct that," She growled in return as she stormed toward him, gladius tight in her hand as her gnosis burned angrily. "Mother, let me claim this man for you." She prayed in her native tongue as the man swung his sword at her middle.

The gladius shot forward, knocking it outward from her body. Weak on his feet and unbalanced, the man all but stumbled back to his knees before he leveled again. Kaie didn't allow him much room for recovery. She jerked her blade at his chest, but a desperate parry from the huffing man saved his flesh for a few ticks. His hopeful swooping arc with his sword for her side ended him. The sluggish swing gave the Myrian plenty of time to smash it back hard enough to open his guard. It was right at that moment she darted past with a counter attack that slit his throat. Gurgling, the sword dropped from his hand and he crumpled to the earth. Blood pulsed from the wound and sputtered from his lips and ruined nose. Dira took him not long after.

After a few mutterings of thanks and praise to her Goddess Queen and careful cleaning of her blade with her kill's shirt, the Myrian turned to find Aider. The Nykan was in the process of finishing his own enemy with a killer blow against a tombstone. As she neared, Kaie heard the crack of the skull and witnessed the rolling of his eyes. Yet she did not concern herself with the dead. The woman dropped to her knees beside Aider when her sword was sheathed. Her chest rose and fell in some fatigue as the adrenaline and gnosis's presence wore down. Her brow creased when he tore the knife from his own flesh. A sunkissed hand went to rest upon his back, and amber eyes wandered to find his gaze.
"You're hurt." There was a twist of guilt and that dreadful feeling of inadequacy she so feared that crept into her chest. Her other hand brushed helplessly in the air above the noticeable leg wound, the others currently unknown to her for the moment.

"We need to take care of that before it festers. Come on, let's get the petch out of these woods and get you home," She said as she stood and moved to the warm corpse nearby. She took a kukri from the harness on her back and cut a thick strip of shirt fabric free. The waterskin at her side was promptly removed and hovered over his leg. "Don't move." The liquid that spilled onto his injury was certainly not water, but a strong alcohol she tended to carry on her. After a few dribbled she screwed the cap back on and stowed the water skin away. Then the cloth was tied above the knife dig in hopes of slowing any bleeding. She offered down her hand afterward. "Well, let's get wandering out of this mist. The men came from the west so we'd best try that way."

Aider heard the battle raging on behind him as the Myrian made short work of her enemy and he followed to do the same. Letting the body drop to the floor. She was next to him again and he turned to look at her. Her hand placed on his back and her eyes staring into his. He smiled and chuckled, "Yeah maybe a little. But at least I didn't run" he said. "It's not that big of a deal. I barely feel it" he said before the liquid hit his leg. He winced and bit his lip. "Well petch! If you have that then we should drink it." he laughed again as she continued to tend to his wound.

"You know I don't know if I ever would have imagined you taking care of my wounds. I always thought it would be the other way around" he took her hand standing up. He did not release her hand afterwards, instead he pulled her closer to him. His arm wrapping around her waist as he looked down into her eyes. "See I can fight to. I may not be anywhere as skilled as some you have fought with. But I can hold my own. I am not afraid to kill to help the one I love" he said fearlessly. The man knew the emotions he felt for her and gladly accepted them. Even if she did not return them except for in bouts of lust and passion.

He pressed his lips against hers for a few ticks before releasing everything but her hand. He nodded and turned to the west and began walking slowly. Trying his best to avoid aggravating the wound and annoying her. "My home. Right this would be the first time you have seen it, you will be able to judge if it is safe now." he teased as he walked with her hand in his. She could easily pull away if she wished.

It wouldn't be long before the two found their way to the street and Aider sighed. He pulled Kaie down the streets slowly hopping till they got to his apartment in the sunset quarter. He unlocked the door and led her inside to a decent sized room with a table and a few chairs, a wardrobe, a small hearth and a decent sized bed, big enough of the two to share. "Here it is home sweet home" he said. He walked over to the bed and sat down. "There should be some wood over by the heart if you wish to heat it up."

In spite of her previous anxiety over his spilled blood, Kaie couldn't help but smile through the meeting of their lips. It was a strange reaction from her to be sure, this frantic worry over him. She'd seen blood and she'd seen battles and skirmishes of various degrees. Comrades had bled and comrades had fallen. Rarely did she give either wounded more than a second glance, not because their race was inferior but because she had no further emotional ties to them than their companionship. Besides, she was practically useless when it came to medicine anyway. This time was different. This time she did have emotional investment. The thought of him finding himself injured on her behalf was outrageous. The fact she could let such a folly take place was unacceptable and equally concerning. She could not allow a repeat of the events that happened three years ago in the Sea of Grass. Never again.

"And I imagined I'd find you long dead in those woods we met in," Kaie shot back coyly when she felt the hand pressed against the small of her back. She shook her head at him, but the smile still upon her face suggested she was pleased with his assurance. "You weren't afraid though. I took a chance. I admire that." And from then on she continued in silence as they waded through the hindering mists. Soon enough they did indeed arrive back on Sunberth's streets and he managed to steer in the right direction without incident. Before long they were at his apparent home, and the Myrian entered his domain for the first day.

It wasn't anything grand or luxurious, which would be a rarity in such a city. Yet it had character and a welcoming tone to it much like it owner. All the expected furniture was present and what not. He seemed to be comfortable in this section of the city, one she hadn't ventured to but now recognized it by verbal descriptions she'd heard previously. The Sunset Quarter? The only thing cold hearted about the apartment was its temperature, which she amended quickly when she ventured to the hearth. Following Aider's direction, she tossed a few stacks of wood inside and worked over it with her flint and steel. Within a chime or so, the proper spark ignited and filled the room with the warm glow of firelight. Yet soon enough her mind returned to her lover, and she was quick to join him upon the bed.
