Passengers (Azira and possibly Khara)

Postby Khara on November 27th, 2014, 6:48 am

With no objections from the Endal and Azira basically waving her off, Khara quickly retreated from the two, though a glance around the site didn't give her a whole lot in terms of which direction to go. Perimeter it is, then, she decided, a bit self-conscious over which direction she set off in. She hadn't gotten too far when she heard Sira comment on the lack of other dangerous creatures and felt some of the tension that had been rebuilding in her ease off again. Thank Caiyha for small miracles.

The game scout began around the edges of the camp, just outside of the cleared area, eyes scanning ground and nearby flora for any signs of something having moved through the area. Despite the lack of Inarta presence the last few days, it didn't seem much like the animals in the area were even remotely interested in the site. Any signs of life had long since passed and the only prints she found were almost faded and obviously boot-shaped.

As she rounded roughly a third of the space, the girl came across a pine cone that had been freshly pulled apart. Not exactly the sort of thing she was looking for, but at least it proved the area wasn't totally barren. The small teeth marks and scattered bits hardly hinted at large game and a look around lead the small bits of debris to a tree. A hint of movement caught her eye. Bushy tail, beady eyes...Great. A squirrel was hardly what they had come out to The Unforgiving for. The rabbits closer to Wind Reach probably had more meat on them. The creature angrily chattered at her before darting upwards into higher branches and caused the girl to roll her eyes. Like you're worth the trouble.

Khara continued her small round, glancing back toward the other two for an instant. She wasn't within range of hearing them clearly any longer and she could only wonder at what the Endal and the Avora were discussing. None of your business either way, sparrow. The thought was enough to shove her back towards her set task, redoubling her efforts at finding something.

As she neared where she had begun, a small bit of worry began to tug at her. Sure Sira had said that she would take to the skies if Khara didn't find anything, sure there was a possibility that maybe there was just nothing to find, but that didn't mean it was any less of a failure on the scout's part. Only a handful of yards stood between her and completing the slow circle and Khara was fairly certain she was going to have to return without much except that petching squirrel to report on when suddenly an area of disturbed ground caught her eye.

The scout crouched down near the area, fingertips brushing away extra pine needles and dirt to reveal a rather familiar looking print. It was similar to the moose she had tracked the prior Summer, but much much smaller. Fainter too, her thoughts added. It didn't help that there seemed to be quite a number of the prints as well, overlapping each other but none exactly appearing to be any newer than the others. Maybe multiple then? Not a moose though, these are way too small. Not the elk either, probably. Deer maybe? Her mind raced, each thought barely able to finish before the next came. Either way, it was something and that was better than nothing. Maybe one of the huntresses would have a better idea if they were worth looking into?

The decision on whether to walk back over or otherwise signal that she had found something was thankfully avoided as she looked up and caught one of the thankful moments the others were looking in her direction. Gods, how long have they been watching me? Khara tried to choke down the wave of anxiety that wanted to be forced upon her with that thought and quickly brought up a hand to signal her findings.

"The birds," Sira responded, glancing over at Azira, studying her with those piercing golden eyes.

The woman was attractive, that much could not be denied. There was a sublte appeal to the way the freckles dotted her face. The golden eyes, like Sira's own, though not quite, were striking to see on her. Sira had met very few Inarta with golden eyes, if truth be told, and it always unnerved her a bit. She knew her own eyes unnerved others, more often than not, and Sira had a habit of staring at people with an intensity only matched by the eagles. Just as she was doing at that exact moment.

"They are not afraid," she continued, looking back toward Khara. "A few of them don't like that we are here, they think we are dangerous, but overall, they are not afraid. Anyone can use the birds as a guide. If the birds go quiet, it is usually a bad sign. But I can understand more of what they say. ..they aren't smart, they don't talk like we do, or like Wind Eagles do. But they do talk."

When Khara paused and then motioned for the two women to come forward Sira dropped the topic, moving to the game scout's side and looking down to examine the prints she found. She frowned a bit, and knelt next to the woman to get a closer look, though she did not really need it.

Sira's lack of competence in the art of tracking was no so bad that she could not get the general idea of what she was looking at. Hoof prints, and a lot of them. They looked old, which wasn't promising, but it was a lead, perhaps. She glanced at the game scout, then at Azira, then back at the tracks.

"Well, you are the game scout. What do you think, should we follow them?"

Passengers (Azira and possibly Khara)

Postby Azira on November 30th, 2014, 11:03 am

So it was something to do with the birds! She was surprised but she waited for an explanation of whether it was something simple that she was missing or whether Sira could actually understand the creatures. The explanation wasn't immediately forthcoming though, the Kelvic turning to inspect the huntress intensely. It was that Wind Eagle soul search that never failed to freak her out, the way that one could look at her but somehow appear to look deeper than the skin. It always made her feel exposed, almost naked but it wasn't an eagle that was watching her, not really, but a woman. That somehow made it worse. If she'd still been a bird that look wouldn't have been as bad. She felt colour begin to rise in her cheeks and was glad when the other looked away.

Azira didn't follow the Endal's gaze, too busy recovering from that prior look, but she could guess that she was watching Khara. She didn't really care where Sira was looking as long as it wasn't at her again. The Chiet could have all of that attention.

Once the other's attention was diverted the explanation finally came. If she'd still been looking at her like that then the Avora doubted that she could have paid as much attention to it or appreciated her on stupidity so much. It did seem amazingly obvious now that Sira had laid it out to her. Azira had listened and had only heard birds but that was a sign in itself but she'd been too dense to work it out. When there was danger nearby they went silent but when all was clear they could be heard singing to their hearts' content. She had been right in her wild guess that the Kelvic could understand them so at least she wasn't always in the wrong. It brought a smirk to her face though as the Endal explained the mental inferiority of her lesser feathered brethren. It was interesting to know that these birds weren't on the same level as the Wind Eagles but it made her wonder what their conversations were like if they didn't speak the way herself and Sira were currently conversing.

She was about to ask about how lesser birds communicated when the Endal suddenly moved away. Azira hadn't been paying attention to what Khara was doing and so she'd had no idea that the scout might have found something. She followed the woman quickly to where the Chiet was crouched but didn't kneel to get a better look as the Endal did. Instead she hovered above the two, craning her neck and straining her eyes to pick out the shapes on the ground. It wasn't immediately clear what she was looking at but a shifting of the light caused by the pair brought it into sudden focus. Hoof prints. For one moment she wondered if they belonged to a moose but looking at the size of them and comparing them with her memory of the moose's feet, she didn't think so. They looked smaller but that didn't mean that they didn't belong to a moose either. Not all of the creatures could be as large as that bull that herself and Khara had downed the season before.

Sira glanced at her then at Khara and back to the tracks before she voiced her question. The huntress answered in the scout's place even though it hadn't been directed at her. "If you haven't found anything else because there might not be anything to find then I should think we should follow it. An old trail is better than no trail," she explained. She'd noticed that the earth in the tracks was similar in colour to the dirt outside of them so clearly they were older. At least she hoped that that was the case and that she wasn't sounding like a complete idiot.

Passengers (Azira and possibly Khara)

Postby Khara on December 2nd, 2014, 1:58 am

Gods, they were leaving it up to her? Khara cast a glance from Sira to Azira as they both in turn spoke, thankful that at least the Avora seemed to have some sort of opinion on the matter. It wasn't a bad idea to see where the tracks would lead, but there were a few things that she had to take into consideration.

As the Chiet looked around them the other signs of the deer's activity started becoming clearer, bushes and trees stripped fairly thoroughly but only to a certain height, traces of droppings that didn't seem any fresher than the tracks themselves, but nothing overall that told her if it could be worth it or if they'd just end up following deer tracks in some giant circle for bells and bells.

"It looks mostly like they were passing through, which makes sense," Khara thought aloud, gesturing towards the stripped plants. "Otherwise there'd be nothing left in the area. They have to be bulking up for winter, maybe even already heading toward those grounds..."

Her voice trailed off as she tried to remember at least some of what she'd been taught about the various types of deer that lived in The Unforgiving. There were some that were pretty solitary and others that grouped up in during the colder Season. Takes less energy to move when they can keep using the same trails through the snow pack, she reminded herself. Not that there was any snow to exactly help with that yet. There were too many other things to take into account. But maybe...

"They may not have gone very far, though. I think this is about the time of year they begin looking for mates, just before that last push before Winter fully hits." The hesitation that came upon her wasn't due to the thought. Khara felt fairly okay with stating that part, it was what was coming next that she dreaded.

Suggesting a course of action was one thing, it could have been so easy to just follow Azira's lead and state they should just follow the tracks, see where they lead, but it wasn't using their combined talents nearly as effectively as they probably could.

The Chiet glanced up at the tree cover. It wasn't too thick, and if the deer were nearby still, the males usually preferred open areas to hold their little contests for the females. Or, at least, that's what she seemed to remember.

Khara took a breath, trying to steady herself for even attempting to voice an opinion on the matter without sounding like a total chick. It didn't matter though, no matter how much confidence she wanted to try and force into her voice there was little that could be done for the bit of timid nervousness that came when she finally addressed the Endal. "We can start following the tracks on foot, maybe if it looks like they are heading towards an area where the trees thin out more Azira and I can continue on foot and... and maybe you can see what you can see from above?"

Sira bit back a frown at Khara's words. She would have preferred to stay on the ground. She had just gotten dressed! And she did not feel like hunting by sky. Part of what she loved so much about group hunts was the companionship of hunting with other Inarta on the ground, and the challenge of not being able to see your prey from miles away. She enjoyed the challenge of hunting with her bow, as opposed to swooping down from above on some unsuspecting animal. It wasn't that she did not love hunting by sky, but when she had the opportunity to hunt with a group on the ground, she loved that as well.

Sira could see the scout's logic, however, and knew that it would look like she was going back on her own words that they were all equals if she did not accept the advice. Besides that, Sira knew Khara was right. They would have a difficult time finding anything with a bunch of old tracks, even if there was prey close. Taking to the skies would be the most effective way Sira could help, and would give them the best chance of bringing back more food for the winter, which in the end was all that really mattered.

With a sigh, Sira nodded. She would play the Wind Eagle today. Any endal worth their stuff knew that the best way to hunt was in tandem with their eagle. While they sought out evidence of prey on the ground, the eagle searched above and guided the endal. In truth.. Sira had rarely done that with Aidara. Aidara had not been much of a hunter, though she tried her best. Her gift, Rak'keli's mark, made it difficult for her to kill anything, and when hunting, you usually had to kill. Trapping was not really an endal's way, and though Addy tried it, it was really not utilizing her full ability as an endal, considering the fact that having a wind eagle was little use when it came to laying traps.

"Better if I take to the skies now, I suppose. I can show you what the lay of the land looks like, and maybe that will give you a better idea of which way they might have gone."

Sira stood and walked over to one of the huts then began to strip. She tossed her clothes and most of her possessions inside. She pulled three arrows from her quiver and fastened them to the clamps on her bow, coiled the string around them better to keep them in place, and then tossed the quiver inside as well. She held onto her sword and then walked over to Azira, handing her the bow, the sword, and a length of rope.

"Tie these to my leg once I shift. And make it tight, I don't want them falling off."

Sira backed away and then, in a swirl of glittering smoke, the naked woman was gone, and in her place was a beautiful golden eagle with tinges of blue on the tips of the feathers. Sira waited patiently for Azira to do as she asked, and when that was done, she spread her wings and beat them hard, taking to the skies. It wasn't long before she reached a high enough altitude to get a good look at things, and a moment later images of the surrounding countryside began to flash in the minds of the two women below. Sira had not said she would describe what it looked like, she had said show.

Passengers (Azira and possibly Khara)

Postby Azira on December 11th, 2014, 4:03 pm

Her eyes moved back and forth between Khara and Sira, wondering if either one of them was going to have a better course of action to suggest. The Endal had admitted herself that she wasn't good at tracking so it wasn't likely that she could come up with anything if the Chiet didn't. It was all on the scout and she seemed to realise it too of her expression was anything to go by. The teen explained that their prey had only passed through the area and Azira wondered what she was leading up to. It was entirely possible that the girl was only trying to fill the silence. If that was the case then she wouldn't be at all surprised. Due to their apparent equality, the girl could speak freely and the huntress couldn't snap at her for it. It wasn't just nonsensical waffle that she was spouting though so the Avora anticipated something useful coming out of it.

The teen's eyes lit up at the prospect of their prey not being too far away, pleased at the idea of killing something in the near future. She could anticipate it being a very successful hunt and the sooner they started killing things, the better it would be in her eyes. The Chiet's suggestion was actually a good one. It was a good idea to use the resources at their disposal and Sira as a Kelvic Wind Eagle was just such a resource. She could be their eyes in the sky and perhaps help them to see something that they might miss from the ground or give them warning of something long before they saw it.

The Endal herself seemed a little irritated by the idea though and Azira couldn't help but wonder why. Maybe she wasn't as big on equality as she pretended to be. It vanished quickly, whatever it had been about, and the Kelvic seemed not only to agree with Khara but to follow her suggestion of taking to the air now rather than later. It surprised her that she'd chosen that course seeing as she'd only just gotten dressed. It didn't seem to bother her anyway as she wandered over to one of the huts and began to strip herself naked again. Azira's eyes lingered on her for a few moments before she remembered that staring wasn't something you did and turned her gaze away in polite disinterest. Her attention returned to the other woman when she approached and she wordlessly took the objects that she was tasked with securing. When Sira had shifted before and sent them flying off her back, Azira hadn't had much of a chance to actually see the shift in action. Not that she actually saw anything. Glittering smoke surrounded her and then somehow her form had changed to that of a Wind Eagle in the brief ticks it took for the smoke to dissipate. She stood stunned for a moment before hurrying forward when she remembered her task.

It didn't seem wise to leave the Endal waiting any longer than necessary and so she tried to complete her job speedily while also trying to ensure that the bow and sword were fixed tightly and securely as Sira wanted. The rope was tied around the objects themselves before she affixed the objects to the limb, holding them more tightly in place by tying the rope over them again. There was no complaint from the raptor and Azira had barely finished her tying when she spread her wings to take to the skies, causing a prompt retreat on the part of the huntress. She watched the dire bird gain altitude for a few moments before turning to Khara.

"Should we start moving on foot or wait for some feedback from her?" she asked the scout, a brief glance upwards at the bird. She answered her own question without waiting for any input from Khara. "I think we'll start on foot but we'll just take it slow." She noted the direction of the tracks and set off the way they seemed to indicate. Within a chime she'd stopped dead in her tracks as the first image came from Sira.

At first, she didn't realise what was happening and had no idea what it was she was seeing either. The image that flashed in her mind didn't match up with what her eyes were seeing and so she was left disorientated. Another image came for a tick, showing an aerial view like the ones she'd seen from the eagle's back. She closed her eyes as she anticipated the next one. By blocking out the visual stimulus her eyes were receiving she hoped to make it easier to see things about the images that were being deposited in her mind. Another flash and she was able to see what Sira must be seeing. She searched for some landmark, fixing on the huts of the Forward Camp before the image faded and was replaced by another. Again she was drawn to the Forward Camp huts before she scoured for any other clearings, any signs of deer on the ground below. Everything was incredibly sharp but the barrage of images left her feeling dizzy as she found her body unable to tell if it was the ground or in the air.

"You seeing anything, Khara?" she asked softly, hoping that the Chiet was faring better than herself.

Passengers (Azira and possibly Khara)

Postby Khara on December 13th, 2014, 3:01 am

She felt entirely overwhelmed, if Khara was honest. First had been the simple fact that her idea was the one they were actually going to go through with and there hadn't been any objections from the two seasoned hunters. Khara couldn't count the number of times she had timidly offered a course of action to other game scouts or even hunters only to have them immediately act as if she had suddenly been speaking nothing short of madness. It gave the Chiet a small guilty moment of pride, but even that couldn't last too long before it was overwritten by the scene of Sira transforming. Knowing it happened was one thing, but seeing was entirely different. Before Khara could really fully process what had happened before her eyes, however, the Endal took the skies and left the Chiet feeling as though the wind had been knocked from her as she watched the Eagle's form become smaller and smaller against the blue expanse above.

It was Azira who broke through the strangely euphoric daze that Khara found herself in, urging them to move forward. Right, sparrow. Focus, she mentally nudged herself as well, regaining purpose towards her task. They set out following the tracks and Khara had begun to look for any signs of deviation or hinting that there was something new to see when the first aerial image was projected into her head.

The Chiet did her best not to gasp as she suddenly felt completely disoriented as her mind struggled to process what she was seeing versus what she was perceiving. It eased as each new image formed, though. It wasn't a violent experience by any means, but it was certainly strange. As Khara looked around their surroundings though she began to make sense of the two. The huts had served as the first landmark, but then a tree just ahead whose pine needles seemed more brown than green was also echoed in what she saw from above. The first tenuous steps she took as she tried to keep aware of both things felt as though she might very well topple over, but somehow the girl kept her footing and it didn't seem to take too long for her to be able to predict when the flashes would occur, each instance scoured for information before it left. A glance was cast over at Azira, and Khara couldn't help but notice she didn't seem as well off, but it certainly wasn't something the Chiet would focus on. Even looking over at the huntress had proven to be a bad idea as it took her focus off of keeping both sets of information in her head.

A small shake of her head was given as Khara returned her view forward and trapped a deep breath before she began walking once more in the direction that Sira seemed to be flying. The girl wasn't entirely certain if the Endal could receive information the same way she was sending it, but if the Eagle could pluck information from their minds she was determined to keep what she provided as useful as possible.

"Not much, just-" Khara paused as she realized what had just flashed before her. She waited for the next set to come to confirm it. "There's a game trail ahead. It's faint though, won't be able to tell how recently it's been used until we get there on foot."

Trying to piece together the bits of information and subtle landmarks wasn't easy but the tracks on the ground helped her to lead the huntress to where the grasses and bushes became thicker, and to that end, a clearly defined path was cut through them by the constant movement of various wildlife. It looked far more obvious from the ground, which Khara found a bit surprising.

The images from Sira hadn't shown anything living though, so Khara felt it was safe to use the same trail. She was torn between moving ahead and checking on how Azira was holding up, but that same nagging sense of even remotely hinting she might have been processing the information better than the Avora was met with a resounding refusal. Instead she focused on the game trail itself, on looking for any signs that it had begun to grow back over. A giddy sense of excitement came over as she noticed a fresh limb had been snapped. It may still have been several days old, but it was a good sign never the less.

"We should be good to follow this, with any luck it'll lead us right to them."

There was a lot a wind eagle could do with their telepathic power, and Sira knew that she was certainly not the most skilled of all the eagles, but she did know that she had done more with her powers than most. Communication was easy. Sira used words, and communicated as if she were speaking out loud, but inside someone's mind. Images were a little harder for her, and she could also send emotions. Some wind eagles preferred to communicate with more images and emotions than words, but all of them could do all three so far as she knew. And as far as Sira knew, all Inarta could receive those communications.

Sira knew there were theoretically Inarta who were less adept with telepathy, and could not communicate as well with the wind eagles, but she personally had never encountered any. She also knew that Inarta were supposedly more psychically adept than any other race, which was probably part of why it was so rare for a wind eagle to choose a non Inarta.

But there were things a wind eagle could do that went beyond the basics, and usually only endal experienced those, if they did at all. With Addy there had been times when their minds synced up so well she could send images so quickly and fluidly that it was as if the endal were seeing through Sira's eyes in real time. She would not try that with these two.

Endal could also communicate with their bonded eagle without the eagle actively opening a link. They were always linked, and could always communicate. They could sense the emotions of the other, and could locate them anywhere so long as they were within range. But for the non-endal, the eagle had to specifically open a channel for communication. She did that for Khara and Azira, opening a two-way link that they would be able to communicate across.

"If you need to talk to me," Sira's voice rang out in each of their minds, "Just think what you want to say and think of me when you do. Think it as if you were talking to me, and I'll hear it as long as we are linked. I can't read your mind, you have to think your thoughts toward me. And you won't be able to do this with each other, just me. Oh.. and don't try sending any images. That can get weird. Your eyes... eh.. Just don't."

Sira could have made the link three ways, but she usually only did that when she wanted to talk to Aidara and another person. It was easier to have two one way links, for her anyway. She didn't know about older, more experienced wind eagles, but for Sira that was how she did things unless something else was necessary.

The eagle returned her attentions to the world below, mostly just treetops, though she noted a game trail. She turned her gaze further outward, spotting a clearing a few miles ahead of their current position. Angling her flight path she headed that way. Clearings were good places to find animals enjoying the sun. If they were really lucky there might be something worth hunting. If not, perhaps Khara or Azira would find something on the ground.

Passengers (Azira and possibly Khara)

Postby Azira on December 18th, 2014, 9:08 pm

Stop acting like such a chick and open your petching eyes! she screamed at herself as another image came. She cringed at the knowledge that she actually had a good point and did as she was told. Khara had moved on ahead of her and seemed to have gotten over the shock and confusion that the images were still bringing to Azira. What if the Chiet wasn't having trouble though? What if it was only the huntress and it was a sign of her own weakness and incompetence? What if she was somehow inferior to the lower caste member?

Another image came and she flinched as the perceived image didn't match up with the one that she was seeing. Focus, you can do this if she can! The mental kick forced her to focus her attention on what was actually going on. If she wanted to fight the disorientation then she was going to have to really concentrate. The Avora waited for the next image to come and then started to count. One chick, two chicks, three chicks, four- Another image came and she repeated the counting process to see if the interval was about the same. When she was sure that it was she began to walk forward, one step for every count. When she reached the point where another image would come then she paused and closed her eyes so as to better analyse it. It was afforded a brief check each time before she released it and focused on walking again.

The teen caught flashes and with each new one she managed to piece together where they must be although there was no sign of herself and Khara from Sira's point of view just yet. She took a few more steps forward and drew nearer to the scout. The other had gotten a head start but now that the huntress was able to balance the information she was receiving from her own eyes and Sira's she was beginning to gain on her.

The switch from images to words had almost made the Avora shriek in shock, much to her embarrassment. She didn't think that the Chiet had seen her little start but she felt like cursing the eagle for the abruptness although she probably couldn't have given them any sort of warning. She recovered quickly, cheeks left burning, but she noted the raptor's message. If she thought at her then Sira would get any information that she sent her way. If that was the case then how had she never been able to communicate with a Wind Eagle in that way before? Hadn't Mohya told her that she couldn't do that? Well if she tried it and the raptor seemed to respond then that would be all the proof she'd need to know for sure.

Khara had found a trail and there seemed to be a track marked out in the landscape from the bird's eye view. Were they one and the same? She followed the trail from Sira's perspective and then examined it from her own position on the ground. She could see where it seemed to be going and the canopy of leaves was a little thinner further ahead, which meant that the Kelvic could probably see it. It could be the same one for all she knew. Even if they weren't the same, the game scout thought that they should follow it and that was all that was important.

The teen had no idea if the discovery would be passed on by the scout but she decided to try out the telepathic communication all the same. Her eyes were closed to stop her from projecting any images by accident and thought of Sira and at her as well. Khara's onto a trail. Probably the same one you see. Let us focus on the ground and let us know if you see anything that we can kill, she projected, or at least she hoped that that was what she was doing. She wasn't practised at this sort of thing so if it didn't work it wasn't her fault. She'd just have to wait for some sort of confirmation from the shapeshifter to know if it got through at all.

"Well then we follow it. Lead the way, game scout," she replied.

Passengers (Azira and possibly Khara)

Postby Khara on December 24th, 2014, 4:03 am

Seeing the clearing from Sira's perspective was a relief, even if it was a few miles out. The Kelvic would be able to tell if it was worth traveling in that direction far before the two teens on the ground ever got close enough to really make a decision on the matter. Khara doubted the game trail would only lead to that one spot, it was bound to branch off at certain points. As Azira spoke up, Khara was glad that the Avora was doing far better, if only for the reason that Khara felt it was more right that way. She was sure others might have taken a bit of pride or triumph in the fact they had handled the visions at first relatively well, but for Khara it was just another thing to feel guilty for - another thing she was supposed to be entirely unfit for and couldn't be any good at.

She was glad those thoughts remained firmly fixed on herself, she didn't need to be translating such negative things to the Endal above. Even that felt a bit odd. Khara had no clue if Azira was already communicating with the Kelvic or not, and trying to speak to Sira directly in a fashion that the Avora couldn't overhear seemed entirely conflicting. But what if Azira was expecting Khara to relay the information about the trail? The Chiet felt her ever present anxiousness nudge it's way towards the forefront of her mind again as she continued down the trodden path. How much was too much to relay? She certainly didn't want to just be repeating whatever Azira was letting Sira know about.

As the thoughts tumbled about supposedly-safely within her own head, Khara continued to examine the trail, trying to focus on the task and leave the unending string of frantic questions her mind was throwing at her behind. The snapped twig she had first spotted was followed by others, the prints continued onward, becoming clearer as they went. The grass hadn't quite sprung back from where it had been trampled upon but given the Season, Khara wasn't entirely sure there would be new growth to replace it until Spring anyway. Still, nothing looked to be too old, though Khara found herself wishing she knew how to age tracking signs better.

A glance upwards followed another flash from Eagle's perspective. Well, there was no good from remaining completely silent, that much Sira had already made clear. "I can't quite make out how long ago something may have used the game trail, but there's enough signs I'm fairly certain it was recent," Khara thought as she tried to focus her thoughts towards and on the Kelvic.

It felt strange, even silly perhaps. What if she was doing it wrong and nothing would come through? There was no real use in worrying, though. Either she would be heard or she wouldn't and if she wasn't there was always Azira to work as a go-between if the Chiet couldn't communicate with the Endal herself.

Khara stopped at another clear set of prints and crouched down to get a better look at them. They looked to be about the same as those she had first come across, so that was good, at least. With a small tug of concentration forming at her brow she used her hand to push aside some debris next to one of the prints and looked at the soil beneath. It wasn't exactly dry, though far from the soaked earth that happened after a rainfall or near rivers. The prints didn't look too much different in texture compared to the ground surrounding and with a thought, Khara pushed her thumb into the ground near the print. The indent she made was slightly lighter as pressure had displaced the moisture in the soil, quite unlike the effect the prints made in the same area. While it was probably a better experiment for when she would have time to actually see how fast it took for the color and saturation of the soil to even out, at least Khara knew that there would be some visible sign for when they came across something more recent.

Getting back fully to her feet she cast a glance over at Azira and shook her head. "Still not sure how recent these are," she spoke, surprised at how soft her own voice sounded after hearing Sira speak telepathically. "But they aren't degraded nearly enough for a few days ago or anything like that. Could have been a few chimes or bells, though. Maybe even a full day. I'm thinking Sira will spot anything before we really will, unless we come across a fork in the path or something similar. I'll keep watch on the trail for anything, but it'll probably be good to keep alert anyway, especially if we come near any water. I haven't really seen or heard anything like a stream in a while and they'd have been looking for that the same as we would."

It was only after she had spoken that Khara realized she was probably just telling the huntress things she already knew. A nervous flush rose in her cheeks before she turned back to the path, eyes scanning desperately in search of something useful.
