18 Fall 514 AV Morning

Walking around the Seaside Market, Fire ran her fingers over a few of the leather straps that were used to hold weapons. She didn't need them but she wanted to feel the buttery leather under her skin. She wasn't really partial to coming to the market because she always worried that someone was going to steal from her while she was trying to shop. Or she would get into an altercation or something of the sort.

Walking to the next stall, she paused to look at some fresh cut flowers and some dried ones. Noticing that there were Brinetooth berries in a jar that was sitting nearby. Every time she saw berries she tried to see if they were Brinetooth. She didn't know much about herbalism but she was glad that Amon had taught her a little something. She would always check so she could keep herself from forgetting.

Not needing any of the flowers she looked at another table, trinkets of different sorts were on the table, there was a hair bauble, a delicately carved brooch, a few pins to hook on to your lapel. There was one that was particularly pretty, picking it up she ran her fingers over the smooth surface, a few scratches were in the metal and she could tell that it had belonged to someone before it had come to sit on the table at this stand. The tip of her finger pressed on the ears and ran along the edges. It wasn't fancy but it was shiny, and she liked it because it reminded Fire of herself.

Turning it over in her hand she looked it over, checking to see if the clasp would work so that she could make sure that it would stay on her cloak. Unhooking it and re-hooking the pin appeared to work fairly well. Asking the woman behind the table how much it was, she handed over the 45 copper mizas for the broach. Reaching up she ran the point of the pin through the cloth over where her cloak clasped together. The little copper cat sitting merrily on her chest now, Fire made her way through the market some more.

Her eyes roved over some furs that were for sale at one of the stands as she continued her slow path. She kept her hands in her pockets, her right hand rolling around the piece of glass that Nellie had given her. She carried it with her wherever she went.

Stopping at another stall she picked up some of the eye kohl that was sitting in rows of different colors. There were some tinged lip concoctions and colored eye powder that were sitting nearby. Fire had never put make up on before, but she figured if the items weren't too pricy that she might actually try putting make up on. She wanted to look pretty for Dor'gen.

Moving some of the items around, she picked up a lighter colored eye powder, some of the pink lip tinge and some black kohl. She then moved over to the area where a bunch of painting brushes in various sizes were laid out. She picked a few up, the ends fat and fluffy. She didn't think that she would be able to fit those in the containers of the eye makeup up so she moved on to some of the other smaller brushes. There were a few with some smaller pointed tips and some that had a small fluffy top. She wasn't sure which one she should use so she picked up both to try out. Handing the person that was sitting down in the stall the mizas for the small items, she tucked them into her pocket.

Walking some more down the way, she spotted some little glass bottles sitting in neat little rows. The light refracted off of the different colors of glass and metal and Firenze was immediately drawn to them. She reached out her fingers delicately, afraid that she might break them. Picking up one of the stoppers on a perfume bottle she held it up to her nose and sniffed at them. Coughing a little from the overwhelming smell she put the stopper back. Her nose crinkled, she rubbed at it trying to get the smell out. She did not like that one. There was another one that had some kind of squeezing ball attached to it, but she didn't squeeze it because she didn't want to have to buy the item if the vendor got mad.

Fire picked up a particularly pretty blue bottle, the contents clear enough that that light shone right through the glass. It had some metal work at the top that held the stopper, then it ran along the edges of the glass, keeping it in place, and down to the bottom which created a base for the glass piece. There was a long delicate glass stopper protruding from the top of the bottle that ran down into the contents so whoever were to use it could dab the liquid on themselves. Rings of metal wrapped around parts of the stopper, giving it more of a grip so as to not drop the slick glass piece.

Pulling the stopper out she sniffed the end where the liquid was, leery to get it to close to her nose this time in case that it was as potent as the other bottle. It wasn't particularly strong, so she smelled it a little more putting the stopper close to her nose. It had a faint powdery smell with a musky undertone. Smiling she closed her eyes, breathing in the scent, enjoying the different smells intermingling and tickling her senses. It was so feminine and delicate, she couldn't resist buying it. Again, she gave the person behind the table her mizas and this time kept the delicate little bottle in her grip. She wanted to make sure that it would make it home okay so that she could wear it the next time that she saw Dor'gen.

[The Seaside Market] Picked Pockets. (Amora Jade)

Slowly her boots led her to the Seaside Market. It wasn’t her favorited place, being it was so close to the water, but she had to find some materials to sew up the hole in her coat an angry man left there a couple days prior. As she walked, Amora often would let her left hand trail up the coarse wool to the opening in the fabric. She would let her fingers slip inside of the gap to feel the rough stitching that closed up a wound on her right shoulder. Normally she would never let someone she didn’t even know get close enough to stitch her up, but the woman made a good argument. In no way did Amora want a silly wound like that get infected.

As she neared her destination, the smell of the water suffocated her. It made her feel uneasy and a bit dizzy to get so close, but she knew she wouldn’t have to put up for it long. No matter how hard she tried to will herself to get over her fear she couldn’t. Something deep inside her still held onto the thought of drowning if she went more than knees-deep in water.

It was always incredible to her how large of a selection the merchants there would have available. Anything from weapons to food could be found, and the required items to fix up ripped clothing. Amora walked past a stall that held a variety of small and medium sized weapons, her eye catching one particularly fine dagger. It’s handle was made of a thick glass and was hollow; a slim piece of decorative metal twisted around it and came off the top in the shape of a budding rose. The urge to swipe it off the table ate at her, causing her to bite her lip to will herself away from it.

Ignoring her own mental warnings she approached the stall and picked up the dagger to take a closer look. It’s blade was shielded in a soft leather scabbard that had the moon carved into it. Her fingers trailed over the indented decoration as she began to remove the weapon from its casing.

Aye! You gonna buy it or just stare at it all day?! I’m trying to run a business here!” the grouchy old lady behind the stall yelled.

Amora growled underneath her breath and set the dagger back on the tabletop before walking away. “I’ll just come back by for that later,” she thought. The thief could feel a soft breeze penetrate the hole in her jacket’s shoulder and brush against her wounded skin. It aggravated her and reminded her why she had came to the market. Big eyes trailed over the merchant stalls until she found one which several fabrics hung from, she guessed she’d find what she needed there.

In no way did she want to have to spend her fairly stolen mizas on the materials she needed to fix her jacket, but she knew she might have to once she saw the huge guard standing alert next to the stand. The thief took a deep breath and plastered an innocent smile on her face before approaching, “Hi! You wouldn’t happen’a have anythin’ to fix my coat would ya?” Amora pulled at the opening in her coat to show her what she spoke of.

A younger lady sat behind this one with what looked like her lover, and she was the one to speak, “Of course! We have a nice assortment of needles and thread that would do the job nicely!

I’ll just be needin’ a needle, got plenty of thread back home,” she lied. The thief spotted a spool of thread sitting close the the edge of the table right in front of her, and was willing to risk taking it. The woman talked to her in a high-pitched chime of a voice while she explained the kind of needle she’d need and tried to convince Amora to buy an entire sewing kit.

Just the needle, please.

Her smile didn’t falter as she fished in her pocket for the appropriate amount of miza to give the lady in exchange for the needle. The girl handed it over slowly, dropping one silver miza at a time into the woman’s palm in order to keep her attention on the money. The man who sat behind the counter with her seemed to be concentrated on another woman that was walking behind Amora and the guard had his eyes set on a suspicious boy who neared the counter a bit then backed away twice. It was perfect. Quickly Amora slid her right hand onto the fabric that covered the wooden stall and slipped the spool of black thread into her grasp. It was small enough to keep concealed under her fingers before she shoved it into her coat pocket. Once all of the miza hit the woman’s hand she recounted them. She smiled and handed over the needle wrapped in a tiny amount of fabric to keep it from poking her.

Thanks!

Amora nodded and smiled back at her before disappearing into a small crowd. It didn’t seem as if they noticed anything was missing. The thief slid the wrapped needle into her right pocket along-side the thread. She could feel her heartbeat begin to race a bit at the rush of getting away with her theft. It gave her a very pleased, but not quite satisfied feeling- making her want more.

Her eyes trailed around the marketplace. She spotted several stalls she knew she’d take interest in, but wasn’t confident enough to challenge the guards at them. Still, the gnawing need to steal pushed her to continue through the market until she neared a more crowded part of it. A young man was bent over another weapon stall looking at a shield that sat beside it- leaving his pockets open for penetration. Amora took the opportunity to quickly walk behind him and slip her right hand into his left coat pocket. She could feel the cold metal of the coin beneath her fingertips as she reached into the wool. As swiftly as possible she grasped the treasure firmly and pulled her hand out before continuing into the motion of the crowd.

Another successful theft sent her adrenaline into a frenzy. Without thinking she began to spot out the unaware people in the market and choose which one she’d take from next. Her eyes caught the sight of a woman who looked to be near her own age looking at the cosmetic items one of the merchants was selling.

A sly grin formed from her lips as she quickly weaved through the people that stood in her path to her target. She could see the woman putting her items into her pocket, but Amora had no need for those. The thief hoped the woman kept her coin in the same pocket, because it’d be the easier one to dive into. An opportunity to take advantage of rose once the woman lifted a blue perfume bottle to her nose. She watched as the woman payed for the bottle and remembered which pocket she took the money from.

With her heart practically beating out of her chest and her fingers trembling with excitement she slipped her right hand into the woman’s coat pocket and felt for some coin. Once her skin felt a few she grasped onto to them and pulled out before quickly walking away. She weaved herself around a few people and stuck her clenched hand into her pocket. As she let go of the coin she felt something odd roll over her finger.

Amora stopped and began to feel around in her pocket for the item she had just touched. With two fingers she grabbed onto it and pulled it out of the dark depth of her coat. It was black and oddly-shaped. It looked like some kind of stone or glass but she couldn’t be sure. Out of curiosity she held it up to her face and let the sun’s rays dance on it’s surface. Her thumb trailed over it and she twisted it back into her palm. The thief had no idea what it was, but she thought it might have some sort of value.

I’ll just take it home to mother, she’ll know what to do with it.

Rubbing the glass of the bottle that she had in her hand it gave her almost the sense of rubbing the glass that she had in her pocket. Turning away from the perfumes she stuck her hand in her pocket to rub the glass that Nellie had given her almost thoughtlessly, just has she had dozens of times before.

Only this time when she reached in her pocket the comforting slick glass was missing. She couldn't feel it's smooth yet jagged surface floating around in her pocket. Panicking she transferred the small perfume bottle to the hand that had just been searching her right pocket so that she could check the pocket on her left side. Still, the jagged little piece of glass was no where to be found. She scanned around on the ground quickly, wondering if she had dropped it when she went to pull the mizas from her her pocket earlier.

She didn't see it anywhere near the perfume stand and began to make her way back from where she had come from, hoping that it might still be on the ground at one of the other stands, she didn't think anyone would pick up the glass, most people didn't seem to think it had any value, even though Firenze knew better.

Her eyes scanning the ground she clumsy bumped into people as they walked by, a few calling her names, others giving her dirty looks. She almost ran into a woman head on and she looked up for a moment, taking her eyes off the ground, trying to avoid her. Then she saw that the woman was holding something up... it was her glass! The woman had found her glass!

Fire made her way closer to the woman, her hand to her chest trying to slow her frantic heartbeat, "Oh you found it!" She wanted to hug the woman she was so happy to see that it hadn't been stolen or worse... lost forever. "Where did you find it? Was it on the ground? I think I dropped it and I was so scared I lost it forever! I'll give you a couple mizas if you don't mind giving it back? I'm just so happy that it's not lost to me! It's not really worth anything, it just has sentimental value really..." Fire dug in her pocket and grabbed a couple silver mizas and offered them to the woman in exchange for her glass.

"This is for you, think of it as a safe keeping fee," she smiled to the woman, glad that she managed to find her before she had left the market. "By the way, I'm Firenze, but you can call me Fire. I know this may seem weird to you, but I really am just so relieved that I ran into you when I did!" Her smile still on her face, a flood of relief came over her.

[The Seaside Market] Picked Pockets. (Amora Jade)

Postby Amora Jade on December 1st, 2014, 11:09 pm

Amora hadn’t noticed the woman she had just stolen from was bumping into people behind her. She didn’t think that she would notice anything missing until after she left the market, or went to pay for another item. So when she turned to see the bright-eyed female approach her she froze from the fear of getting caught. Out of instinct she braced herself for what came next- but to her surprise only a smile was found on the face of her target.

“Oh you found it!”

Found?... Ohhhh!” It was apparent to her then that the woman had no clue she had actually been stolen from. It took all she had not to laugh. It was rare to find people in Sunberth that wouldn’t automatically assume the worst, especially when the worst was actually what had happened. It amused her.

The woman began to talk in a franticly excited manner, and didn’t let Amora fill in any lies to her questions before she kept on talking. It made it easy for the thief to hide her bad deed and just go with the flow of the moment. A sly grin formed from her lips at the mention of receiving coin in exchange for the item she had ‘found.’ A thought that it may actually be worth more than what the woman was suggesting tugged at her for a moment, but she pushed it away. If it really wasn’t worth anything, well she was just getting paid to steal and return a worthless item.

The thief held her breath when the woman stuck her hand back into her coat pocket- she knew for sure she had to notice the few mizas she had taken from her earlier. Again to her surprise the woman didn’t react to a lighter sum of coin, instead just pulled out a couple of silver and extended her hand to give them to Amora. Naturally she did the same and accepted them, immediately concealing the treasure into her own coat pocket in fear that a few wandering eyes might have seen the exchange.

With only minor hesitation the dark-haired girl handed over the item ‘of sentimental value.’ Amusement and curiosity towards the unaware woman could been seen on her face. This was never something she had experienced before. Actually being paid to steal from the person paying her! It was delightful. “If only she had ‘lost’ a couple more items…

Fire.” Amora repeated as her target introduced herself. Firenze was definitely not a name she had ever heard before either. Realizing it might be a bit rude not to give a name to the generous fool in return, she introduced herself as well, “Jade. I’m glad I was able to get it back to ya safely.

Out of sheer entertainment she decided to keep their little interaction going, “So you’re not from around here huh? Most people try to keep things that important to them somewhere safe, not bring them out in public and all- fear of gettin’ them taken.

As Fire held her hand out, the mizas lying on her palm, the other woman took them and placed the piece of glass in place of the coins. Closing her fingers tightly around the slick little item she shoved her hand into her pocket. She watched the woman a little as she noticed a strange expression come over her face. She appeared to be happy to have received payment for the glass, it didn't surprise Fire though, not with the way the city was. She would have been happy to have someone randomly give her mizas for something seemingly invaluable.

She hadn't really even given thought to paying the woman for the glass before, but now that it was secure in her hand she wondered if she should have done that. What if the woman wanted all of her things? Would she rob her or try to kill her for it? Firenze hoped not, but if she needed she hoped that she'd be able to protect herself.

The woman repeated her name back to her, almost as if she were trying it out on her tongue, and handed her back the piece of glass, “Jade. I’m glad I was able to get it back to ya safely.” Fire rolled the glass around in her hand, not wanting to lose it again, feeling the jagged edges on the skin of her palm reassuringly. "Nice to meet you Jade," Firenze smiled at her, pulling her hand back out of her pocket for a moment and extending toward the woman.

“So you’re not from around here huh? Most people try to keep things that important to them somewhere safe, not bring them out in public and all- fear of gettin’ them taken.” Firenze didn't think she seemed like she wasn't from here, considering she was raised in Sunberth her whole life... well, what she could remember anyway. She wondered for a moment if she should tell the woman that she was from Sunberth or not.

What if the woman wanted to follow her and hurt her? She had been kind of silly running around in the market like she did, but she'd been worried she'd lost her token of friendship. She rubbed her fingers against the smooth glass while she debated about what to tell the woman. "I am.. from around here, I suppose I should be more careful in the future. I try to keep it in my pocket but maybe I should figure out a different way to keep it with me." She paused, trying to figure out if that would sate the woman's question. Trying to be polite despite the trickling feeling of nervousness that started to come in now that her worrying about her trinket was gone.

Fire's eyes scanned Jade over. Her dark hair flowed over her shoulders, her clothing similar in color. She didn't appear unfriendly in the face, but that didn't necessarily mean that she wouldn't try to do harm, Sunberth had a way of changing people to mask who they really were.

Her curiosity of the woman she'd just met winning over her nervousness she decided to continue the conversation cautiously, "Are you from around here?"

[The Seaside Market] Picked Pockets. (Amora Jade)

Postby Amora Jade on December 20th, 2014, 7:05 pm

When Firenze said that she actually was from Sunberth it confused Amora. The thief didn’t know a single soul who would carry anything important to them in their pockets. That was the one place most thieves liked to get their coin from, and that face was common knowledge in those parts. Sure, the thief herself sometimes kept her own coin in her pockets but she was usually much more aware of people than the average patron, due to the fact that she knew how they all thought.

Yeah you should, wouldn’t want it being lost or stolen,” she responded. If the woman insisted on bringing the trinket around with her she’d definitely need to find a safer way of doing so.

The thief noticed the strange way Fire was looking at her, it forced her to shift her weight a couple times nervously. Any time people sized her up like that it was never a good thing, usually it meant they wanted what ever she might have on her person. There was no way she’d give up her things that easily, so she prepared herself mentally to run. It wouldn’t be difficult to lose the woman in the crowd.

Amora didn’t think of her the sort to steal her things, though. The way she didn’t assume the worst when she saw the thief holding her trinket made her seem.. sheltered. It was not at all a common sight in the city. The girl didn’t think it was possible to be innocent in such a place.

When Fire’s query hit her ears she couldn’t help but laugh. To her it was painfully obvious she was Sunberth bred, “Born and raised. Sunberth has run through my family’s veins for generations. I’m surprised you couldn’t tell.

Amora’s eyes drifted from the woman several times unintentionally. It was a reflex of hers to look for someone to steal from, and at the same time she continually kept a close eye on people who were passing them out of the paranoia of being robbed herself.

Even if she couldn’t find the opportunity to steal from another merchant stand she would probably still look through the wares. She was in dire need of a new blade and possibly some new boots. It was incredible the wide array of items available in the market.

The thought made her curious, “So what did you come here for anyway?” She turned her attention back to the woman again, it was then that she actually noticed her eyes. They seemed to be the color of gold! Her own eyes squinted a this, there was no way. Amora had never seen another human with eyes like that, she wondered to herself if she had something done to them to look that way. The thief hadn’t thought about how strange it might look of her examining them so closely, but it wasn’t any different than the way the woman had looked at her moments before either.

Fire hadn’t really paid attention to the other shoppers that were milling around her, but she did notice that Jade’s eyes watched the other people. Fire followed suit and tried to see what she might be looking for but couldn’t really tell. They all looked like average people… well, average for Sunberth anyway. A short woman with a bulging stomach, more than likely distended from lack of nutrition. Another a tall scraggly man with waspy grey hairs circling his head. Men and women of every stature, class and race mingled around looking at wares that the vendors provided, while also keeping their eyes on their backs. A woman with black wiry hair, gloved hands and disheveled clothes huddled in a corner with a tin cup, a few items in the cup rattled as she shook it and called out. Part of her face was burnt and Fire wondered if that might be what was distracting Jade.

She paused for a moment, looking back to the dark haired woman when she had asked her why she was there. “Well, I came to pick up a few things. I wanted to get some new clothes but I got rather distracted, then decided to get a few pretty things. A girl has to feel pretty every once in a while right,” she laughed and winked at Jade, the smile still playing on her lips, “May I ask what you’re out shopping for? Something pretty too?”

Jade had squinted at her and she wondered for a moment if she’d gotten some of the powders she’d been looking at on her face. The kohl that she’d gotten had been rather dark and she wondered if it was smudged on her face. Rubbing her face absently, she spoke, “Do I have something on my face?” Laughing lightly, “I was sticking my nose a bit close to some of those powders, I bet if you breathe wrong that stuff would go flying everywhere!” Glancing down at her front, she brushed at her cloak. She didn’t see anything on it but she was feeling rather self-conscious and wanted to make sure that there wasn’t anything. Her hands rubbed over the coarse fibers, picking at specks of lint, trying to hide some blood specks that had splashed up and stained from some of her hunting.

“Well, it was very nice to meet you and thank you again for finding my glass,” still rubbing the cloak she looked up, smiling at the woman she nodded her head. She wasn’t sure what else to say so she wished the woman well and let her know that it would be nice to see her again sometime. She stuck her hands in the pockets of her cloak, felt to make sure that she had everything she’d bought recently on her, to include her coin purse and the piece of glass. Turning on her foot she slowly made her way toward the entrance of the market. Smiling, Fire kept her head down, feet trodding on the stone path, happy to have met someone new, get some new items to play with and get some fresh air.

[The Seaside Market] Picked Pockets. (Amora Jade)

Postby Amora Jade on April 7th, 2015, 2:41 am

Amora kept her hands in her coat pockets to try and prevent herself from sticking them in anyone else’s who passed the two women. The spool of thread was enough to distract her for the time being by giving her something to do with at least one hand. She was an odd one, not like any other she had seen in the city. Something about her was too innocent- sort of like a puppy.

When Fire questioned the thief about Amora’s reasoning for being there, she didn’t tell a complete lie. “Came to get some thread to fix my coat,” she said as she used her finger to nudge at the torn fabric in her coat. She had almost forgotten about it until then. The woman’s fidgeting and comment about powders made the thief laugh a bit and shake her head. She knew all too well how awkward it was to be stared at, especially since it was usually considered a threat in Sunberth.

Before Amora knew it Fire sad her goodbye and turned on her heels to leave. It was then she realized her confused and amused expression had been frozen on her face due to a couple odd looks she received from a pair of people who passed by her. Once more she shook her head and began to make way out of the market herself, but not before the sight of a beautiful necklace hanging out of the coat pocket of some fat lady caught her eye.

It was stupid. Why did she feel the compulsive need to take things from people who didn’t seem to possess the brain enough to hide all of their belongings securely in their pockets rather than having them hand out or bulging from them? It really wasn’t something she thought much about, but it was something she enjoyed doing. To her it didn’t matter how much someone worked for what they had. If they were stupid enough to put it on display for a thief they deserved to have it taken from them.

Amora stepped forward, picking up a rather quick pace as she neared her target- the woman was occupied with eyeing the pretty trinkets on the stall in front of her. With one hand in her coat pocket, she reached the other one out- fingers extended- to try and grab onto the jewelry and pull it from its prison and into her palm. Right as the tips of her index and middle finger came into contact with the cold metal, her target stood up straight and took a step back. She knocked into the thief and forced her to bump into a man behind her.

Petch…

Quickly the thief found her footing and began to push through the crowd to get away from the area as fast as she could. Bumping into someone was the obvious way beginner thieves would take from their targets, and she knew that would be the first thing to cross both the woman’s and the man’s minds when she bumped them both. The sound of their shouting infiltrated her ears as she barely escaped the market and darted as fast as she could towards home.
