6th Day of Spring, 515 AV

It was a little later in the day, not quite dusk yet but not far off ether. Nivel had spent a large portion of the day doing more research on plants and the beneficial magic they gave to the tall folk that cultivated them. She already knew of a few herbs and the powers they had to bestow if treated the proper way. Tolm to ease pain and help sleep, Belltor for head aches and Vyfox to cure those things called “wounds” and “injuries” that the she had heard so much about. The study session she had today hadn’t proved very fruitful but she had leaned of one herb called Acson that could cure animal poisons. It was sure to be useful on the field of battle, in the off chance that a poison spitting beast ever shows up.

The pycons kelvic mount Patcha had come along for the studying venture, and was in her human form so she could help reach and carry books for her more vertically challenged friend. The kelvic was more in the state of mind Nivel used to be about books, that they were complicated and boring. So she didn’t join in, She just stood there pretending to be invisible.

When Nivel lost interest in searching through tomes, her interest grew towards seeing the vegetation she had just learned about. It was one thing to read about something and it was another thing entirely to see it thrive and grow in it’s natural environment.
“Want to go for a ride into the forest Patcha?” Nivel asked in a comically high pitched voice.
A grin grew on the young kelvic face, and like the canine she was she jumped up and down happily to show her excitement.
“yes! Lets go!” Patcha knelt down and let her rider climb on to her hands and place the tiny pycon on her shoulder.

Patcha briskly walked back to the dormitories to gain supplies and allow Patcha to change forms and from her street clothes into a saddle. Nivel simply brought a bag to put any herbs she could successfully harvest since she didn’t have tools and probably couldn’t carry them if she did. They made their way to the gates and after stating there business to one of the knights on guard duty, they were free to explore.

The white snow of winter had all but dissipated and the forest was slowly coming back to life. The trees were talking the longest to wake up from their sleep while the forest floor was a bit more lively and green. Although the devastation of winter had left little for Nivel to salvage, other than what little thrived near the hot springs and that place was practically picked clean by other herbalists. If the fledgeling clay mage was to find anything she would have to delve deeper into the bronze woods. It was definitely risky to say the least but her natural pycon curiosity made it hard for her to resist. Patcha was a bit more cautious but hadn't put up to much of a fight yet.

Surviving the Bronze Woods (Clemens Cos)

Postby Clemens Kos on March 14th, 2015, 9:12 am

Days were hectic. Kos felt somewhat overwhelmed by everything and had the bright idea to find himself some distance. Armed himself with the attire that sadly couldn't pass as a priest, with a leather mask covering his face, and a recently shaved half head, he walked into the forest. It was quite warm, so he left his thick coat in the room he was renting. His halberd strapped on his shoulder, and a backpack on his other one, he felt quite prepared. A few snares could try and catch an animal or two to sell back in the city, and he never actually left without his weapon anymore. he grew accustomed to the weight and the odd uncomfortable feeling of carrying it around all the time. Packed as he was, he tried to find some silence in the woods. Yet unlike the previous snow covered lands, the grass was blooming, everything was green and at every single foot, one could hear the birds singing. Even though that was still better than a constant blabber of a man, it still got somewhat annoying. He felt somewhat better in the winter because of that, even if it was more cold and cutthroat.

Be it as it is, Kos aimlessly wandered deeper into the forest, thinking about everything that came to his mind. By the time he actually met a decision, he was already way pass the known road. Looking up in the sky, he felt like he knew where to go if he needed to, so he decided to take a break. Setting the backpack on the ground next to a big tree, he pulled out his weapon and took a deep breath. Both of his hands wrapping around the wooden shaft, and with a clean swig, he aimed to cut a lesser branch off the tree. It wasn't the strentgh he was lacking in, but the swings. He needed to find a way to be able to inflict damage at an odd angle. One of his major weaknessess, and something he wanted to work on. And he did. Cutting down the thinner branches, and then backing off with a sidestep to prevent something hitting him on the head.

Holding the weapon up at all times made him kind of tired after a while, and after setting the weapon down, he looked for something to sit on. A rock was simply there, and Kos used it as a make-shift chair. His back bent, and his hands pressed on his knees as he released a long sigh. As he was alone, he pulled his mask off his face, and wiped the sweat that was beginning to gather on him.Not that he minded it too much, but he should probably find a bath after he got back to the city. His left arm, the one that was covered in metal, hung lifelessly next to his side. His eyes closed, as he decided to listen to the nature around him.

Surviving the Bronze Woods (Clemens Cos)

Postby Nivel on March 16th, 2015, 6:18 am

While continuing to explore the vast forest of the Bronze woods, Nivel kept getting distracted by the twisting branches and the chirping birds over head. The light choir of birds made Nivel think of singing and soon the pycon was doing just that. However her oddly deep voice and lack of singing ability sounded more like the wails of a ghost or horrifying creature and Patcha was quick to bark in protest. while the kelvic was certain that the pycons terrible voice would scare away the most fearsome of predators, the kelvics sensitive canine ears couldn’t take another one of her riders horrible ballads.

“You scared away the birds Patcha?” Nivel said in disappointment as she looked back into the now baron trees. Patcha turned back to face her passenger and let out a soft bark “oh yah the herbs…thank you for bringing me back on track”
Patcha let out a quiet sigh at her riders spaceyness, it seemed like she would have to keep the pycon on track and out of danger.

Nivel opened her mind to the sight of auras, knowing that the most vibrant thing in the area was sure to be what she was looking for. Simply being able to see auras wasn’t tiring at all to her anymore but she still haven’t tried looking into the depths of any auras lately but she could bet that would be easier too. She just couldn’t risk it while she was out in the wilderness.

Nivel caught the sight of a pale glow in the distance, she urged Patcha to speed up with a tap to the sides and an abrupt whistle. Patcha picked up that pace a bit but her tiny stumps could only go so fast especially with all the roots and other obstacles in her way. Nivel finally caught sight of the aura she had sought out and to her delight it belonged to the cluster of tiny white flowers know by the name Vyvox. Nivel would have rather have found Tolm since it helped her with the over giving headaches she frequently gets but the herb known for its amazing ability to heal tall folk was sure to be useful.

Nivel took a moment to marvel at it’s delicate stem, lace like leaves and its beautiful flowers as Patcha trotted up close to it to gave it a sniff.
“Okay enough of that, I need to harvest it Patcha” Nivel expained in a joking manner “You can sniff it later.”
Patcha reluctantly backed just far enough away for Nivel to get a good shot at her target. The pycon proceeded to quickly lash at the plants stem with one of her out stretched arms, causing the plant to fall over to the side. The Squire picked it up and held it in her hand like an umbrella, resting its stem on her shoulder so it eclipsed her from what little of syna's light was left in the sky.

She was about to leave the area when she heard the rustling of something not far off.
“hello…is anyone there?” Nivel asked hesitantly, readying herself for a fight if a wild animal or creature were to appear.

Surviving the Bronze Woods (Clemens Cos)

Postby Clemens Kos on March 17th, 2015, 8:43 am

The man seemed like he dozed off for a moment, or two. With his eyes closed, and his head cocked down to the side, the hair on his left side courtained over his face, and served like some sort of buffer between him and the world around him. Simply enjoying the quiet, and the warm day, his thoughts raced away. He knew he shouldn't try and relax too much, due to the constant danger the woods provide, and his previous experience all pointing in the direction of caution. Thinking about that sort of thing always brought a shiver down his spine, and the day easily felt colder than it actually was. then again, he grew a bit from that day. Now, Kos was bigger. He was stronger. He actually had his own developed will, and quirks. Unlike before, he was now in possession of a weapon to protect himself, and the determination to never return to those roots he started off as. And even thought he felt better, he knew he shouldn't believe that feeling, and drop his guard. The people he met, and the things he saw. It all pointed out on the fact that he still had a long way to go, if he really wanted to not be afraid. And even then, the feeling of discomfort always comes back to someone. No matter how much things they experienced.

Fact was, that Kos even thought having his mind readied up, still had quite a disobediant body. He was still holding his weapon up straight with his one hand, as he went ahead and picked it up, simply to feel safer in the woods. Yet, as he began to think, the grip somewhat loosened, and it wasn't long till the weapon slided out of his hands, and fell against a medium sized shruberry, creating an oddly audible noise, with the grass and the simple twigs underneath it rustled, and Kos' eyes shot wide open. He should probabl stop doing that. For everytime he lectured somebody of the dangers of the woods, he himself still didn't listen to those words from time to time. Yet, now fully awake, he jumped off the rock he used as a chair, and went to pick up the weapon. Slowly, he looked around if there was anything that could figure out his location. Now, with spring in the driver's seat, there was a lot more animals to hunt. But in return, there were a lot more predators that hunted said animals also. So in a way, if in winter the dangerous thing was snow and cold, now he needed to worry about other things. He hoped his little accident didn't exactly jeopardise his little trip, and it seemed calm. But he was wrong, after all. He heard a voice speak out.

So he was heard. Kos grunted to himself, as he brought his hand up to his face, and pulled the mask back in place, hidding his broken and jarred apperance from sight. Going through his hair with his hand, and fixing it so it falls down, and covers the side of his face, without too much of it standing out. Readied like that, he tightened the grip around his weapon and proceeded towards the voice that by now echoed through the forest. He looked around, squinting his right visible eye around, yet he couldn't exactly see anything. Kos wanted to see who the unknown voice was, before making himself known. But the more he looked around, the less he saw. He felt like he either heard a ghost, then in the moment he kind of forgot that not all things were the same height as he was. He didn't look on the ground too much, due to all the foilage, shrubs, and grass obstructing his view. "There is." He finally spoke out, slightly muffed due to his mask as he continued. "Out in the open. Come out." He spoke, and returned to the middle of his little place he rested at, hoping the unknown person will do the same.

Surviving the Bronze Woods (Clemens Cos)

OocSorry for the lateness
As the man got closer, Nivel was able to recognize his appearance as the mercenary who joined in on the massive yukman hunt last season. He still didn’t see her and Patcha due to their diminutive size and asked for them to come into sight. Nivel lightly taped her tiny legs on her mounts sides to encourage her shy mount to step into the man’s line of vision.
“Didn’t mean to scare you” Nivel said softly as she came into view, twirling her flower umbrella. “I feel like I’ve seen you before…were you part of that massive yuk man hunting expedition that Ball started?”
The pycon hoped she wasn’t making an incorrect assumption since tall folk looked so similar in her nexus. Nivel didn’t realize the man was wearing a mask like her patron usually did, but it didn’t really matter since the pycon relied more on vibes and subtle visual quirks. He wasn’t too odd in his mannerisms but she picked up on on a few unique things that made him stand out in her memory.

“What are you doing in the woods” Nivel inquired from the mysterious Tall Folk, not as much out of concern but curiosity. Whether he was who she though he was, the masked Tall Folk seemed fairly capable of protecting himself or at the very least being able to run swiftly away from danger.

“Would you mind accompanying me on my way home?” her ears fluttered as she looked up at him “I’d like someone to talk to and it’s far safer to traverse the woods with company.” The pycon didn’t know where she even was at the moment but she still didn’t consider herself lost. She was under the assumption that if she wondered enough she would find her way home before Syna’s final decent from the sky.

Patcha was far more nervous and it wasn’t just because a stranger was in her midst, she was far more aware of the situation at hand but had no way of conveying it to her rider. After fidgeting through Nivel’s interaction with the man that to her looked like some sort of fiend or bandit, the kelvic tried to move away.
“No Patcha! Stay!” Nivel said as sternly as she could muster. “I’m talking to this nice man”
Patcha let out a sigh but continued on her path to find some kind of recognizable feature or smell that could tell her where she was. The flower Nivel was holding seemed to be disrupting the kelvics sensitive corgi nose so she had trouble accessing that feature.
“Patcha!? you’re being very rude” Nivel said as she tried her best to rein her mount in “I’m very sorry she gets nervous around strangers”

Too bad this thread didn’t get very far. Still, there were a surprisingly large number of skills here for you. It didn’t quite seem like a training thread so I didn’t award any shield points. Nivel is adorable and it’s fun seeing other players use the various herbs of Mizahar.

I like how Clemens is not your every day character. He's got some real wounds that are lasting, restrictive, and certainly don't make him a pretty sight.
