To Adopt; Summer of the 20th

[left]It's been roughly five days since he came back from the Mythryn on his patrol. Why five days for a patrol, Ferrin didn't really understand. There had been complaints of bandits being more active around that area though, and that that was probably the main reason to why Ferrin had to take his patrols down over there. It was only a few Bells later in the morning. Ferrin was already up. He usually wakes up early for training, but he used to wake up during the earlier hours anyways.

Jade was up and preparing tea. Ferrin was uncertain of what to do. He usually has something to do for himself in the morning. Ferrin enjoyed the season of Summer. It was always genuine weather, nice and comfortable. It was fairly good for hunting, but it wasn't as good as Fadeepe. Fall, the majority of animals usually come out. Or, at least that is what Ferrin thought. Though, petty much all of the animals come out during summer.

That means... Bears. Bears come out from hibernation. Bears are pretty much dangerous if one wasn't careful enough, and so that is why Ferrin would usually avoid the deeper portions of the wilderness. Ferrin had endured a lot whenever he ventured through the Bronze Woods.

It was, a lot. Ferrin had his usual attire. The plain cotton clothing, with his leather jerkin. It provides a decent amount of protection, whilst it was comfortable at the same time as well. Ferrin sat on one of the chairs that sat by the table. He was resting one hand curled into a fist, under his chin. His curls were just above the eyes, as it has been so long since he'd gotten his hair cuFal
Ferrin watched Jade with a gentle gaze as she made the tea. It's been awhile since Ferrin had taken in Jade to his home. Ferrin was pleased of Jade's company. They've both endured a lot together as well. No matter where they've been they had always ended up together. Now, it's summer and Ferrin hasn't had anything planned for the two of them, maybe Jade has something planned for today?

"So, Jade." Ferrin took in a breath as Jade walked over with the tea. "What do you have planned for us today? Since. You usually always have something to do. Maybe, we could go out somewhere or do something?"

Jade sat up stretching with a groan staying quiet. She didn't want to wake Ferrin up any earlier then he woke himself up. So much had happened with them that to an extent she was confused about where they stood, yet in her heart they stood together. He had taken her in when she was nothing more than a stranger. Jade would be eternally grateful to the man. As time continued the blonde found new feelings surfacing. Walking into the bathroom she brushed her hair out before stretching more. Yawning again the woman walked into the living room rolling her neck trying to wake up her tired muscles. While Ferrin had been gone to the Outpost six days ago Jade found herself unable to sleep without dreaming of something bad happening. Once he had returned the blonde found herself sleeping like a dead tree as her body tried to make up for all the lost sleep.

A shifting in the other room about a bell after the woman had gotten up alerted her to Ferrin rising as well. Smiling gently the woman had just gotten the tea ready for the pair to talk over. Walking over to the cabinets she opened the top cabinet grabbing two glasses. The woman continued to work on the teas as the other occupant sat at the table. She felt his eyes on her, but it did not bother her in the least. Jade knew deep inside her that the man would not hurt her or try anything strange. Since his return he seemed very reserved and quiet compared to normal. Looking over the woman walked over to Ferrin as he asked her about the days activities.

"Hm, I have been wanting to go visit the orphange in town. I've never seen one before. I wish that I could give one of them a home, but I would never want to push that on you or anything," Jade said sitting down across from him, "I would be happy to have you come with if you want to. It's been far too long since we got a chance to relax and spend some time together. Mmm you never did tell me how the trip with the knights went."

Ferrin took a sip of the warm relaxing tea. The warmth coursed through his body like a massage. If felt good. Almost as if it was to relive stress. Ferrin lightly tapped his boot on the ground beneath him, the wood came in reply with a light thud thud thud. Ferrin grew nervous. The scenery from his patrol the last few days wasn't very pretty. Though, he figured that Ferrin could trust Jade. Ever since they've met, Ferrin knew that there was a place for her in his heart. He always had to help the needy. It was a thing his mother had taught him, before he left Kenash to come here. To do what he wanted. Now, it was Jade's turn. Jade had something to do.

"Hm, I have been wanting to go visit the orphange in town. I've never seen one before. I wish that I could give one of them a home, but I would never want to push that on you or anything," Said Jade. Ferrin had let it ponder on him for a few ticks as he continued to casually sip his tea, whilst tapping his foot on the ground. It seemed like a nervous habit. He's creating those now, oh by Sylir, what has Ferrin stepped into to get him so nervous.

"The orphanage?" Ferrin croaked as he nearly choked on his tea. He set the glass cup down, and watched the contents swirl as it attempted to still itself. "Um, we'll need more beds..." Chuckled Ferrin lightly, the thought if having a child so soon. Ferrin wasn't that old, was he? Sure enough, Jade wanted a child. "Oh, um I guess we can settle then. A child won't be as hard as it seems, right. Garland has twins so how hard could it be for one child?" Thought Ferrin aloud. He would listen to Jade speak as she would respond.

"I would be happy to have you come with if you want to. It's been far too long since we got a chance to relax and spend some time together. Mmm you never did tell me how the trip with the knights went."

"Oh, sure. They'll probably need both signatures to sign off of." He said looking at Jade thoughtfully. "My trip to the Mythryn..." He spoke in awe as he did. His words trailed off as he recalled the monstrosity's of what had his at the Bronze Woods. "The Bronze Woods, it's getting worse. It's being inhabited more and more by gruesome beings. It's very dangerous. I'd say it's not even safe to go out on the Kabrin Road anymore. No one is safe. I think the Order is going to ensure some escorts for the travelers who come here and out. That's how bad it is..." Ferrin watched the liquid stop swirling.

Ferrin needed to come up for a way to change the topic. Or else, things would get uncomfortable for the rest of the day. The orphanage. "So, what kind of child were you hoping to get?"

Jade looked over when Ferrin started to choke on his tea slightly disturbed. Watching closely the blond waited till he stopped and took a deep breath. Listening about everything that happened caused the woman to sit up straight for a moment. Allowing him to relax she let out the small breath that she had been holding in.

"Ferrin, if you aren't ready for kids I can wait. I don't want to make you uncomfortable," Jade said noticing how unnerved he seemed to suddenly get.

Perhaps Ferrin was not ready for a family. Jade had been taught young that family was everything. It hurt her to see kids with no family to call their own. Sure she wouldn't be able to give them all a home, but she could at least give one a home. She listened to him talk about how much the creatures were starting to come out. So many suddenly appearing caused the woman to be nervous knowing he would be patrolling whether with another knight or should she say squire was with him.

"Well thats troubling and here I was thinking of going hunting," Jade said and shrugged looking to the man once more.

"Ferrin, if you aren't ready for kids I can wait. I don't want to make you uncomfortable." Ferrin twisted in his seat a little. Just to get things situated, he cupped his hands over and on top of the table. Like some sort of fancy market man or something. "It's not the kids I'm worried about. It's the space. If we're getting more than one... We'll need to find a bigger place. And that would cost more than a Miza worth." He said sullenly, as he glared at the cup of almost emptied out tea.

Ferrin has two other siblings that he had left behind. He was the middle kid of his family. He wasn't really one to get into troublesome things a lot, no. But, he didn't really get caught much for the stuff he'd done. Like stealing a cookie from his mother's cookie jar. Or reading a book that wasn't meant for him to read. Though, if he weren't careful, he would've done something wrong without even knowing.

Ericka, and Durin. Sister and brother. Ericka was the eldest. She was living somewhere in Riverfall. Durin, Ferrin felt guilty for leaving behind was his youngest brother. Though, his family could probably do better without two other kids running around and getting into things that wasn't needed to be messed with.

Ferrin missed his family, but he had things that he wanted to do here. Things that needed to be done. Now... He's going to have a family. How on Mizahar, would he be able to contact his own brother and sister, and parents about his child and foreseeable future wife? Of course couriers, but what if something happens; where the message never gets delivered? What then.

"Well thats troubling and here I was thinking of going hunting." Troubling, yes quite so. Ferrin couldn't bare the scenes that he'd witnessed out at the Bronze Woods, his patrol to the Mythryn. The five days worth of work and work. He missed Jade and all his friends back at the Fortress City of Peace.

"Well, you can certainly go out there, but not just right now. Really... Bandits are more active then ever from what I've heard. And I've only lived here for a year now. How else could things get worse? Let's cool ourselves with a walk, and let's visit the Orphanage. Maybe someone good we could adopt? We can teach them how to hunt, and spar and train
Read, and write. All of those fun things. Sure, let's go. Come on then." Said Ferrin cordially and ushered the blonde to follow him as he gathered up his blade and opened the door. Once Jade came out, he'll close it and the two would start walking over to the Orphanage.

Jade looked at Ferrin gently putting her hand on top of his when he spoke of room. They had an extra room that had plenty of room for two beds if they got two little ones. Though she thought one would be plenty for them to start with. Listening to him talk about everything that the pair could teach the little one brought joy to her heart.

"That sounds great Ferrin. How about since we have that extra room we only get one? I understand you being nervous of space, but we are partially sharing a room anyway," Jade said gently.

Jade laughed gently when he started pushing her out the door. Walking out the woman let him close up and lock up before they headed out. Waving to the lady at the desk the blonde found her excitement building. Humming the blonde stretched out more enjoying being out of the apartment. After some time the pair spot the Orphanage up ahead. A bright smile crosses the face of the young drykas. Looking to Ferrin she gently pulled him faster wanting to hurry.

Ferrin observed Jade's excitement. Something like it was coursing through him as well. He felt... Happy. But, he was mostly worried of what could lie ahead. How would adopting themselves a child turn out? There could also be a lot of impairments to adopting a child. What happens if the child wasn't home, and Ferrin and Jade both saw them missing? What then...

All of these thoughts rambled through Ferrins mind. Like a woodpecker chipping away many pieces of wood at once. Though, nothing was pecking at his brain, just the questions, and the worries.

They were both half walking and half rushing their ways towards the Orphanage. Jade was tugging on his arm and he could feel the sqeeze. The warmth of her hand. The energy that flowed, is this what it feels like to enjoy ones company. To appreciate others? To... Love? Ferrin wrapped his hand around Jade's. The excitement was slowly filling him, and he could feel his cheeks getting hotter. It was then, when they've reached the Orphanage.

"Well, Jade. After you." He said with a nod as he opened the door for her. The two stepped in.

"Where should we go..." Was all that was asked as the layout of the Welcome Home was unfamiliar to him and most likely Jade. "I think we should wait, until someone finds out where here..."

Jade walked inside and looked around where the pair stood. She wanted to go adventure through the building, but with Ferrin still holding her hand she was unable to move much farther. The blonde could hear children's laughter along with an adult's laughter following. A small boy stopped seeing the pair in the door staring for a moment before running back outside shouting. Looking at Ferrin and snickering gently Jade turned to see an older woman approaching them.

"Sorry about that. I was outside with the kids while they draw. My name is Aenysa. I am the overseer here at The Welcome Home, what can I do for you two wonderful people?" She asked with a bright smile looking at the two before her.

"That's not a problem at all. We were looking to maybe adopting. If you have any ready of course. Oh where are my manners? My name is Jade Laken and this is Ferrin," Jade said with a smile.

"OH that is just wonderful! Please follow me, all of the children are outside right now," Aenysa said with a bright smile motioning for the two to follow.

Jade looked at Ferrin before following the woman ahead of them. Soon the three adults were outside in a big open area where children ran around everywhere. Looking around the blonde was amazed seeing how many were without a home. It silently tore are her heart wishing she could give them all a home.

"Many of our children are up for adoption. Three of our prime candidates are actually best friends. A young girl name Dina, a young boy named Roon, and a slightly older boy named Sammeth," she said and looked around not seeing the three, "They aren't out here. All are very gifted drawers come with me the drawing room is upstairs."

Turning Jade followed behind Ferrin and Aenysa as they walked upstairs. The building amazed the woman as she walked with them. Aenysa gave the pair a small background on the three children. Walking Jade spotted the three in the room. Each was laughing and drawing picking with one another not seeing the adults yet.

"Hi there Aenysa. I'm Ferrin. Pleased to meet you." Ferrin flushed a rose red at the compliment when the overseer spoke the last words. He nodded, but the heat in his cheeks still lingered. Either from the recognition that they were together, or that he wasn't used to this kind of situation yet.

"That's not a problem at all. We were looking to maybe adopting. If you have any ready of course. Oh where are my manners? My name is Jade Laken and this is Ferrin." Jade spoke with a smile and Ferrin flushed a red of embarrassment. Now, he looked like he was being childish, but now he doesn't really know what was going on at the moment.

They've passed through rooms and a courtyard that most children were occupying for games and playing. Aenysa had her focus on the children as she passed them by, Ferrin and Jade walked together, still holding hands. Ferrins' was getting sweaty. The three wandered up the stairs. Aenysa explained each of the three children's background checks and everything that involved with them.

"They all sound so wonderful. It's hard to choose." Said Ferrin with an altered tone of being flabbergasted. They've rounded a corridor nland found themselves near the room with the very same children. Each drawing and consisted of laughter. Teasing one another. Aenysa glared at them gregariously, watching them.

"Dina, boys. You three have visitors. Say hello to Jade and Ferrin." She said with a happy nod and smiled warmly at the three. Ferrin waved his nervous hand at the children. "Hey there." Said Ferrin as cordial as he can. Ferrin walked over and knelt beside Dina, "what are you drawing?" Asked Ferrin in a friendly curious manner. Dina smiled and lifted up the picture. "It's a dog." She said excitedly. "Do you like it?"

Jade smiled brightly not letting go of the man's hand when they were lead upstairs. She was heart broken to hear each of their stories, but excited to meet the three. One little one caught her attention. The young girl's story truly hurt the Drykas. A mother who did not care for her, but a chance at true happiness with a family. The woman let go when they meet the three waving at them with a smile. Dina's drawing seemed to draw both of the adults over to her. Of course the boys animals caught the blondes attention. She walked over and knelt down speaking with the pair. One seemed so excited to talk about his kitty as the other seemed reserved not wanting to talk about his bunny.

With everything the two had been through Jade promised that if they weren't chosen, she would come by and visit with the boys during the season. The smallest seemed truly happy to have a promised visitor. Looking over Dina called to the two waving them over. Smiling the blonde followed the boys to see the young girl.

"Hello Dina. My what a beautiful picture," Jade said with a smile making the girl giggle more.

"Thank you. Are you guys really going to take one of us home with you?" Dina asked with big eyes looking to the two of them.
