She was talking to herself in Vani. It was the only way she could think of to keep herself sane and keep the others unaware of her vulnerability.

"You can do it. You're stronger, smarter, more experienced than anyone here. You're up to the challenge. You will survive."

The internal pep talk faded, however, when Joe forced the group to a stop. She looked around mindlessly, waiting as he leaned against a wall, holding on to a protruding root. She watched the flame light up the rocks and dirt around them. The red rocks glowed intriguingly, and called to her to come touch them.

Aladari crept forward, reaching out to touch the rock. She tugged at a loose piece, hoping that she could store some in her bag to take with her. A chunk gave way in her hand, which she examined for a tick. It was smooth in some places, rough in others, and all-around enchanting. Her admiration was swiftly interrupted, however, by the flash of movement in the corner of her vision.

The woman moved forward quickly, a babe crying in her arms. She didn't seem to notice the child's wails. Instead, she focused on arguing with a man (the father?) unhappily. She visibly whined. Though Aladari could not hear them, she could see the desperation on the woman's face. The man urged her on, and she stomped her foot, but continued regardless. She glanced behind her one last time, fear all over her face.

Instinctively, Aladari looked back too. but all she could see was Joe, messing with a wad of fabric and some matches. She shook her head at him. Petching idiot. He's gone insane. She didn't realize how ironic the thought was.

By the time he had thrown the flaming ball behind them, though, she had forgiven Joe's insanity. The tunnel lit up in a huge flash of light, the creatures behind them bursting into flame. Aladari screamed, but was cut off by Akhen's hands firmly pushing her out of the way.

"Run!"

The command was hardly necessary. Aladari felt her feet itching with the urge, and so she stumbled away as quickly as possible. She may not have been fast, but she had a chance if she got a head start. "Get moving old man, you're not dying today!" She laughed at the statement in an increasingly delirious manner. Her laughter bounced off of the walls, and persisted through the splatters of venom bursting from the walls.

Undead monsters. Poisonous alien cells. With the way the adventure was going, she wasn't sure what she expected, but it certainly wasn't this.

Aladari stumbled over a root, slipping forward and plunging a hand into one of the cells on the walls. It popped and hissed, eating away at the skin on her hand. She hissed in pain, but the sharp burning gave her an idea. She stopped abruptly, turning to face the creatures. Ignoring any noise that might be made by the others, she waited. She waited until the monster was close enough that she could see the veins under his skin, and smell the burning, rotten flesh. Once it was close enough, she bent down and tugged hard at a slimy root, pulling it taut. It tripped almost comically, flailing its hands as it fell. Its stray hands reached out and pierced a cell, causing a spray of acid to rain down.

Aladari was not in its direct line of fire this time, but the undead was not so lucky. It shrieked as the acid bit into his already thin skin, burning through his flesh. Aladari grinned and laughed triumphantly. She looked around to see if anyone had spotted her ingenious idea, and to ensure it, she shouted, "Aye! Don'tcha worry! They's easy!"
"The sea always filled her with longing, though for what she was never sure."

Riluc rubbed his head as they walked. The headache had subsided allowing Riluc to finally truly focus on what was occurring around him. The death of the hairy man especially so violently didn't sit well with the young wilder. It had been a terrible way to die for anyone, and as they walked farther down the tunnel Riluc continued to feel that unease. Slowlly he began to realese that his uneasyness had to do with more then that.

As he walked in the darkness he began to feel te hair on his body begin to rise in warning. The darkness around them was thick and encrouching. Riluc wqsn't afraid of the dark, many of Caiyha's creatures lived in the dark never truely seeing light, but tere was something else about this darkness. Usually darknes was just the absents of light, but something about this darkness made it seem more, like it was offended by the light. Riluc looked over at the tourch in dark skinned man's hand and notixed that the light seemed to be fighting against the darkness, and wondered if that was were his thoughts about the darkness originated. Either way something seemed strange

Rilic instead focused on his companions. The dark skinned man was a competent swordsman and fighter that had been proven, and Riluc was grateful for te man's presence on tis adventure. The young woman seemed to be having more trouble with te adventure. She said she was a mercanary but Riluc had really seen her fight and right now she was talking to her self as they walked. Riluc couldn't undestand it but it wasn't a good sign, that was for sure. The last was old Joe, and Riluc could feel the old man's desire to comment. It was like a pressure build from the old man. People like him just can't not talk.

Riluc glanced back several times, because anyone who spends time in the forest knows the importance of making sure your not being followed, not that it would have made much difference here as it was solid black. Riluc turned to look at Joe when the man called for a hault. Riluc only spared a glance in the elderly mans direction much of his attention focused on the darkness beyond. A shudder raced down his spine as joe fumbled with something. Riluc tightened the grip on his helmet. It could be used as a bludgeoning weapon if necessary.

Riluc's eyes opened wide as joe tourch turned into inferno pure. Riluc then growled as he beheld the dead. As a follower of Caiyha Riluc understood the value of death and didn't oppose it in general. He didn't believe in letting death take him early, but eventually. Undeath though was different the dead should stay dead. Riluc's instincts kicked in though. He swung his helmet at the undead closet to him. He felt it connect with the things skull and heard a crunch from the thing. Riluc followed it up with a kick at the creatures knee. He was aim to break the knee cap. He felt contact and heard another crack.

Riluc then joined his companions as they began to run. It was difficult to keep up with his fellow warrior. Riluc slowed though as they helped joe began to move down the tunnel. Riluc's attention was distracted though as he heard laughing from behind him. It appeared that the last member of their party had lost it. Riluc couldn't really pay attention to her as one of the prison exploded. Riluc was on the far side so while he got some of the splash but not as much as the others. He pushed past that to continue moving down the tunnel with the others.

[Quest] Entering the Temple of the Unknown

Postby Anarkhos on September 24th, 2016, 5:44 pm

His heart was ready to burst in his chest, his breath short and quick as he struggled to keep up with the group. The pain from his hip still shot through his body, but the fear of dying by the hands of what ever those things chasing them were overpowered what ever pain he should have felt. He heard the dark skinned mercenary refer to him as "Old man" before turning heel and taking off in a sprint to which he gladly followed suit.

The tunnel or cave or what ever the fuck it was, filled with sounds of moans and splatter from the dead pursuing them and the cells bursting. The sound of laughter caused his head to turn back to see the girl, Aladari, his mind pushing the name into his memory. Aladari was laughing, was she enjoying this? What was funny? There was nearly an army of the fucking un-dead wanting the kill them and she's having a blast.

"Aye! Don'tcha worry! They's easy!"

She let out as the shirtless boy shot pass her, a gap now forming between her and the group. Driven by instinct Joe came to a halt before turning around and running back toward the acid dripping creatures. The boy passed him and the dark skinned warrior kept running. They hadn't noticed how far back she was. He hoped to be quick about it, to just grab her and pull her in the right direction. Yes he was old, but he damned sure wasn't about to let that stop him.

"Lassy!" He called out now an arms reach away from the woman. Dagger out he lashed at an extended decaying arm, watching it crack and fall unto the ground in a pile of dust. A normal man would have bellowed in pain if not instantly go into some form of shock, this...Thing, or what ever it was ignored the missing limb and continued to press forward. A panic about to start within him, the old Myrian attacked once more driving his dagger into the creatures chest. An inhumanly screech echoed as the creature fell backwards into the ground, the old man proud of himself. A victory short lived once the creature once again began to stir before moving to stand up.

"Aye help us ere!" He called out, looking back up the tunnel only to see a wall of the undead moving towards the other two men. It seemed that they had their own problems to deal with. There was a movement out of the corner of his eye, a woman whose chest looked to be ripped open stood mere feet from their right. Her body began to convulse, shake as if she were ready to vomit. Joe's eyes widened as he hobbled over to young girl arms reaching out, pulling her close as he shielded her with his body. There was a gag then it was as if liquid fire was upon his back. He felt it burn through his clothes, his skin, scarring his tissue. A cry of pain like non other before escaped his mouth as his eyes watered.

He was in pain, but wouldn't let that stop him, no. He had been in a thousand battles back in time and withstood injuries worse than this. Straightening himself he turned back towards the slow moving beasts. Retrieving a rock from the ground he brought it up against the head of one of the monsters staggering it a bit. "Myri save us. How do you kill these damned things?" Joe asked now in a full panic.

The ground beneath the two men began to soften with each step that they took down the tunnel away from the danger before reaching the end of the path where stone door bearing symbols stood as it glowed intensely as the dead approached. The wall of the undead coming closer with each step that they took. A slight breeze blew through an opening in the roof of the cavern as the creatures came to a halt as a whole. A few ticks passed then as they had came, the monsters left, in a staggering heap ignoring the living as if they were never there, returning back into the darkness of the tunnel away from the fire that lit the small area that they attacked.

Not wanting to let the blessing from Myri go to waste, Joe yanked on Aladari's arm pulling her through the group of the undead to the end of the tunnel where they would regroup with the others. He could see the shadows of the two men as they approached, the ground became softer as he walked. "What's this here?" Joe asked looking at the door. "This place is just full of fucking surprises." He let out taking the time to release all of the things that he wanted to say before they were chased by the previously deceased.

"Aken, is that you my boy?" A voice came through a crack in the stone doors. "Aken that is you isn't it? You little runt. So you just up and leave eh? Take all me gold and run. Do you know how much gold you cost me? You were my champion! You lived the life. Had all the whores and cut throat friends one could ever want. I gave you life and this is how you return the favor you ungrateful swine! You're an adult now little Aken, why don't you come in here and face me man to man. No more little kids to beat up on. Bring it! Hell, if you beat me, i'll tell you how your real mother died." the voice taunted Aken, a laughter coming from behind the door.

A tingle went up Aladari's spine as another vision came through to her. There was the woman whom had left the man behind to fight, she was covered in scratches and other bruises. She was at the door pulling upon it's handles. There was another, a woman as well. She was yanking on the first woman, trying to stop her. "He's in there, don't you hear him calling for help? I need to save him"

"No!, I'm telling you that is not him. It is playing tricks on your mind. Don't open the door or you will release it. We still have a chance of stopping it as long as the doors stay closed!"

"Get off me bitch! I need to save him!"

The woman in the vision pushed her oppressor away as she gave a hard pull thus opening the doors. Wind began to sweep into the dark room as the large door creaked open. "Don't you understand? This is what it wanted, you have brought death upon us all" The second woman cried as she ran away fading into the darkness. The first woman stood looking into the empty space. There was a sound of a large body of water splashing before a large tentacle slithered out from the darkness. The woman let out a glass shattering scream before the slimy appendage came down upon her only mere inches from Aladari before vanishing. The tingling receded from Aladari's spine releasing her back to the present.

[Quest] Entering the Temple of the Unknown

Postby Akhen on September 25th, 2016, 8:38 pm

They were running in oblivion, in the womb of weaving darkness and shrieking shadows. Akhen's arms would swing into orange-blackness and it would emit crimson-whites and yellow screams. Beside him was someone who he was certain the boy because the dim light fluttering from the torch his hand would often glitter into blubbery ivories of helmet-metal. That's why Akhen hadn't attacked him yet.

As they ran deeper into the gaping iniquity wrapping around them, through the gleam of rotting fiends, the afro-haired mercenary heard a high-pitched, girlish chortle striding the fine hairs of his neck and he glanced backs suddenly. An undead leapt! He snarled, whirled and plunged his sword into its breast with an awkward thrust before kicking it off the blade, swinging his arm and splintering apart the fleshy neck of potbellied ghoul that was heaving its wide frame toward him.

Akhen hissed as a cell exploded above him and he sprung back from the dribble before it showered of the corpses at his feet in a rain of acid!

A few more came screeching through the torrent of acrid waters, arms wide and running madly. They penetrated the wall of liquid fire with a poignant drive that saw them splash across the floor as a mound of writhing, screaming decay instantly! Akhen staggered and disappeared into the darkness again with torch and sword; the fumes of the cells growing too strong as more lumbering cadavers came rattling their mouldy jaws at him.

He ran, rasping with fatigue and pain now. The screams, moans and scattering of feet were everywhere and the shadows in that bowl of madness only grew more monstrous with each step. On occasion the mercenary would stop to hack-and-slash two or three undead out of the horde tailing him and the boy before using the weak fire of the torch in his hand to make them into a miniature Slag Heap that lit up the whole place vehemently before dwindling into embers. There were three or four burning mounds behind him now and the pain rippling through him was daunting on his frame and he knew it.

The heat was unbearable, the stench of rotten burning flesh was murder on the eyes and the ringing in his ears seemed to grow into a mad, gelatinous musing that congealed with the screeching and moans that followed him. His swings were a weak amalgamation of instinct and anger. Even apprehension.

Two bodies fell to Akhen's struggling slashes before he dipped down to light them up since it seemed like fire somewhat made the horde pause for momentarily before resuming their mad pursuit. Akhen was so lost in his own need to live that he'd forgotten about Joe and Aladari. One second the old man was under his wing and the next he was gone. They were probably dead now, he mused madly as he pushed his slippery blade into the hollowed eye-socket of an undead before it dropped and a comrade came sprinting to avenge it.

Akhen moved back cautiously, clove through the thing's midriff with a tired yet practised swing.

The ground had softened unexpectedly now and the only thought filling his mind was that it was going to fell in at any second and plunge him deeper into this forbidden place, into this forgotten tomb! The horde bore down upon him and the boy as a wall of ancient flesh. They were slower now, cautious for some strange reason – neither attacking or moving to kill.

The light of the torch in his hand fluttered as he walked the horde nearing, pacing the sell-sword step for step. Akhen had noticed a faint glow in their dead, glassy eyes that grew with each encroaching step. It took a while for everything to slow for him but he quickly realized that behind him was a light of a familiar glow. It washed over him suddenly, and the horde stopped.

He paused and watched them in their ceremonious stillness. A cold, fresh breeze came above him and filled his lungs, washing over him as if it were some divine blessing which brought about a calm he never knew he could have. A few ticks passed and in a sudden, insane flash of movement, the horde scattered!

Two familiar figures came rushing toward Akhen and the boy and somehow at the sight of them, the sell-sword just collapsed to a knee. He hissed through his teeth and the sword in his hand (not only just being the thing actually keeping him up) trembled violently. He coughed, shook and swore. His ears kept ringing and even then the sounds he heard prior hadn't altogether faded – in fact, they were growing stronger, familiar...

Akhen shivered suddenly and grabbed his sword to his chest. The voices melded together and took on an intimacy that kneaded at the deepest corners of the mercenary's memories, deeper into the recesses of his mind. The words were like visions, plastering across his eyes like a painting. He knew this voice. He hated this voice –

Aken, is that you my boy?” it slashed out the fibres of his subconscious, that sluggish tone of venom, Syliran and faux-sounding Eyktolian, “Aken, that is you isn't it?”

“No... not you,” Akhen hissed, stiffening abruptly. It continued : “You little runt. You just up and leave eh? Take all me gold and run. Do you know much gold you cost me?”

“Shut up... shut up–” Akhen pursed, shaking his head, clinching the hilt of his sword. “You're not... real.”

“You were my champion! You lived the life. Had all the whores and cut throat friends one could ever want.” the voice pressed. Akhen's eyes began to burn, his clenched jaw began to ache, his temple throbbed but he felt none of it. He only heard that voice...

I gave you life and this is how you return the favour you ungrateful swine! You're an adult now little Aken, why don't you come in here and face me man to man. No more little kids to beat up on. Bring it! Hell, if you beat me, I'll tell you how your real mother died” it drifted about Akhen's mind in a fit of those disgusting chuckles.

Akhen stood, slow at first, before turning around to face the door. It was an iridescent beauty, an ancient thing he would have been enamoured to gaze upon its splendour – were he of right mind – then. He dropped the torch and gripped his sword in both hands, his breath was still at first, his hair ablaze in the door's light, in colours of sickly yellows, blusterous oranges and ruddy-crimsons.

His march forward was so slow and posed that it contrasted that quivering, writhing mess he was a chime almost supernaturally.

Good! Good!” the laughter continued. “Com'ere... come in and fight me!” –

Akhen wanted this voice to die!

“Shut up!” the sell-sword expostulated, springing forward. In his crazed dash, he shoved Old Joe aside savagely and slashed at the door. There were sparks as Akhen yelled, “You bastard! I'm going to kill you! I'm going to rip your fucking head off!”

Hahaha!! Good Aken, good! Just like old times! Look at ya, haven't changed since, still killing.” it rasped through its taunting shrills. Akhen kicked at the door, again and again!

More! Yes, more! Come in and find me! Come get me you miserable piece of shit! Come to me, come to the one who gave you Life! To the one who gave you meaning! Come back to me, champ! Come back and you can kill them all again... Just like you used to!

“Kids! We were kids!” Akhen snarled, battering at the door now! “We were, kids! And you... all of you!”

Who cares, Aken?! Damnit boy, we both know you don't! You never did! It was all easy money! Hehe! Easy money, yeah... You haven't changed at all, you pompous rat! You're still just killing, but now, now you do it for yourself! Where's my cut, eh?

Where's my share? I taught you everything! I made you! Hehe, watching you all butcher one another is no different from what you're doing now, is it? Is it?!

Akhen roared! He'd dropped his sword and began hammering at the solid door with his bare knuckles. They'd turned raw a chime ago. His eyes were a portrait of red. His mind was a million thoughts a tick and all of them were of killing... him.

“Animals! You turned us into animals! You and all of them! And now, I'm going to make you pay!... I'm going to hurt you! I'm going to break you! I'm going to kill you!!” the mercenary had his fingers in a slit running through the door. He snarled, his frame bulged as he began to pry it open, feebly at first but the anger drove him insanely. He would get in... he would kill him!

He would make him pay!

YES!... More... More Aken! Come and get him! Come and redeem yourself! Come and avenge your little friends! Come and join them...” its laugh was a mad shrill that only made Akhen's sight into pure, hellish murder.

Hehehe! Come! Aken... my champion! Do you remember that little game we used to play?!

“Shut Up!”

“Shut Up!

“SHUT UP!!”

[Quest] Entering the Temple of the Unknown

Postby Aladari Coolwater on September 28th, 2016, 2:37 pm

Aladari couldn't decide whether it was a blessing or a curse that Joe had pulled her to safety. Part of her was grateful that she could make it away from the undead with her life, but the other part just wanted to give up, give in.

Regardless of her indecision, or perhaps because of it, she survived to see the monsters retreat. And then the four of them were huddled in a clump, quiet and respective. It was almost like a breath of fresh air in the dark and damp underground, but rather than refresh Aladari, it reminded her of the tiredness in her bones. She felt old- far too old for such a young girl. Then again, she always had felt mature for her age. Maybe this was just a continuation of that natural progression.

She felt this was especially true when she heard the voice. "Akhen, is that you my boy?"

At first, she was thankful. A familiar face could save them, and the voice seemed to know at least one of them. But then Akhen's face hardened, and she knew that something had gone horribly wrong.

The voice droned on and on, taunting, teasing, provoking Akhen into a rage. His entire demeanor seemed as though he were a man-turned-boy. Both grew further and further enraged, their voices escalating until Aladari had the childish urge to cover her ears.

And as soon as she did, she was met with a startling silence. It was not a relief, but rather it grew a suspicion in her gut. She looked up, only to see Akhen gone, replaced by the woman she had left behind earlier.

The woman was accompanied by a second. Aladari tried to call out to them, but her words were lost amongst theirs as they bickered. Though the words were jumbled, Aladari could tell they were in distress. One woman seemed hell-bent on opening the door. The other was hell-bent on stopping her.

Aladari took a small step forward, trying to see which side she should offer help to. She reached out a hand, calling to them, "Wha's there? Why cain't we open the door?" Her answer came swiftly as the door swung open with a soft creaking.

"Don't you understand? This is what it wanted, you have brought death upon us all!"

One woman turned and ran, while the other stood frozen, eyes wide and all-seeing in front of the door. A scream pierced the air, ringing in Aladari's ears like a gunshot. Then, as if she were being struck by the Gods, a tentacle came crashing down, shaking the very earth around them. The woman who had opened the door was crushed, no remnants left behind as the tentacle slipped back into its cave.

Aladari shivered, her body frozen in awe and wonder at the monster she had witnessed. She closed her eyes, whispering gently to herself. "Laviku, I don't know what I have done to deserve your wrath, but I know that my friends are innocent. If you have any idea of mercy, leave them be."

When she opened her eyes, Akhen had returned to his assault on the door, which was closed once again. A smile broke the Vantha's face as her body was reanimated. Laviku has closed the door. I am blessed!

Afraid to invoke the God's wrath again by ignoring the opprotunity, Aladari rushed forward and wrapped both her arms around Akhen's torso, tugging him away hopelessly.

"Akhen! They are trickin'! Is nah real. Listen to me. Nah real. You have to keep the monster inside." The girl sniffled, her throat clogging up with the coming tears. "They wan' you to let the monster out. But you cain't. You cain't."
"The sea always filled her with longing, though for what she was never sure."
