Training with a new friend? (Garland)

"It's strange. I am not used to such a crowded and enclosed space since I come from Endrykas," Jade said looking at the young man across from her.

She listened as the young man taught her how to stand. As she tried to move fast again it became painfully obvious that the young woman had never held any heavier than the daggers. Jade tried to throw her weight into the attacks, but with her smaller frame that idea did not work either.

"Ugh!" Jade said panting a trying to vent a tiny bit of her frustrations.

Taking slow deep breaths Jade centered herself before taking up position again. The young woman slowly opened her eyes and stares at the dummy. Forcing the tension in her arms to build so that she could hold the sword where it was needed was not proving to be the challenge. The challenge was trying to figure out how to move without hurting herself even with a dulled sword or injuring Garlan. She was happy that he had offered to help her learn how to fighting using a sword. The young girl swung the short blade once more using more of her determination to prove she was not useless. No longer swinging wildly the girl swung under the arm actually getting the sword stuck. She felt the sword as it decided to imbed itself in the dummy. Letting go the beautiful grey eyed woman looked to the young squire.

"Uh I think I got it stuck," Jade said looking over to the young man.

Garland just smiled, it took him a long time to build up enough strength to wield his sword. To be fair he was still growing up and got into a lot of fights and worked hard as a carpenter's assistant, so it didn't take him too long to build up the strength.

He helped her pull out the sword that was stuck into the dummy. At first he didn't put much force into it, but it seemed that it was really stuck in there. He pulled harder and placed his foot at the dummy's chest.

It wasn't as stuck as he first thought. As the sword dislodged itself from the straw man, Garland had put too much force into pulling it out and he fell down onto the cold ground.

His armor clanged as it hit the ground, he was a tough guy, but it still hurt, though it did annoy more than it actually hurt him. Though he simply laughed it off.

He pushed himself up and dusted off his armor, it was scratched and dented in most areas, he had been in plenty of fights and such throughout the year, and he hasn't really given the armor back to be fixed.

"That was a nice swing, but I think training any further would be a waste of time, you should try to build up your strength or switch to a dagger. I hate to admit it, being a sword user myself, but a dagger is a more versatile tool, wouldn't you say?"

Jade watched as the young man walked over and started trying to pull on the sword. He made a face and had to pull a little harder than he had obviously thought he would have to at first. Jade nods gently when he starts talking about her working out more.

"Where can I work out?" Jade asked looking at him gently wanting to learn to wield more than just a dagger when she needs to.

"I am better with a dagger since I am used to moving fast from dancing, but I want to learn to wield a bigger weapon at some point," Jade said looking at the young man across from her.

Jade had began serious thinking of becoming a knight or hunter until she could get better at her dancing and singing. Truthfully the young blond wanted to be a performer singing and dancing was her dream, but she knew that would take some time. Even if she were able to be a hunter and in the off season take up singing till it was time to hunt again would be amazing. Though she highly doubted that would be possible.

"How did you become a squire?" Jade asked looking at the young man once more truly interested in his story.

Garland paused a bit and thought about how he had gotten his muscle. Mostly it was years of working as a carpenter's assistant, and occasionally going here to help around with moving and cleaning weapons when he had free time.

"Well, you can help around here with weapons, or lift some weights, maybe using the sword would help too." He said and placed the sword back on the weapon's rack. "I use to work as a carpenter's assistant, carrying wood and tools and all that. So maybe you can find work or some other way to build up your strength."

When he heard that she was a dancer he couldn't help but smile and remember Sayana, it was a shame that she wasn't here in the city. He felt that Jade and Sayana would get along well enough.

"I use to know a dancer, she's out of town I think, travelling on her honeymoon. You would have gotten along great together I would think." He said and started placing the weapons he had taken back to where they belong.

"A squire? Well, it's simple, just go to the recruitment office near the Bittern district and just apply. Tell your name, skills, age, and all that. Pretty standard stuff, becoming a squire is easy, becoming a knight is harder. It takes a lot longer."

Garland paused and thought about why she went into the Pits in the first place. "Do you want me to escort you anywhere?"

"No, I don't want to impose on you. I will make it home soon," Jade said with a bright smile and walked away as she heads Diria neighing.

Laughing gently Jade waved to Garland and hurried back outside to her mount. Taking the yvas Jade calmed down the mare knowing she had become restless waiting on the young girl. Gray eyes met with chocolate brown ones. With the reassurance the mare stood still and Jade mounted up on her back.

"Thanks again Garland!" Jade called waved to him.

Smiling gently Jade clicked her tongue and the mare began to move heading back to the stables. Jade smiles as most of the people on the streets were unaware of the young woman.
