Big cats and even indeed Kelvics had a burning need to know where they were. So it was when Nya and Abashai set foot on Syka's land, they did what they normally did - made camp - and then Nya went to wander. It was early in the morning and though she could smell other humans around, it was a refreshing sort of thing where the scents of the jungle easily covered and muted the scents of humanity.

That made her smile.

Nya was here for a reason, one that would most likely be long term. That meant that she wanted to get a feel for the land and what was around the area. The easiest way to do that was to break up the sections of land in her mind, scout each one individually, and make a map as she went. That required human hands and writing materials. She'd spoken briefly to a man named James, and he'd told her a few landmarks to look out for. Mainly he said that Syka's land ran from Sharktooth Point in the north to Treasure Point in the south with the stair steps in there somewhere and The Maw constituting most of the interesting places.

The Forest Cat was hot, used to more temperate climates, but she was determined to learn the lay of the land. Her first goal was to walk the beaches north to Sharktooth Point and then trek inland from there. She'd travel south again briefly, then cut back to the beach, travel south again then cut in to the maw. She'd repeat this process from the northern part of the settlement all the way to the southern part until she had a really good feel of the land. She'd make a map as Nya went, making sure to map out the segments she'd mentally cut the area in. The Forest Cat knew she may not get all the exploration done in one day, but it was doable to get a good chunk of it.

Her stomach also grumbled so she kept an eye out for local wildlife as she went. Nya was used to scavenging food and keeping her own belly filled without dipping into rations. The big cat started out, walking up the firm beach at the wet sand line. Nya always walked fast, her smooth loose hipped stride confident as she kept her eyes open and her nose into the wind.

The beach was busy with crabs and gulls chasing them. There were also tuffs of grass and other vegitation, reassuring Nya the land was healthy here. She gazed out to sea as much as she studied inland as she walked, trying to figure out what Aressa Tallshade was all about hiding her pearl so close to this location. It was out there, somewhere, buried in the depths of the ocean, waiting to be retrieved. Nya would get to it, one way or another.

She was a patient cat.

In her human form with only a tunic dress on, no shoes, and a backpack of supplies, Nya hiked north on the beach pausing periodically to pull her pen and ink out and make notes on the little map she was starting on. When she reached Sharktooth Point, she paused, sat down on one of the rocks, and really began to add detail to the map. The wind tossed her hair as she worked, keeping the morning cool and the beach pleasant. Later, the cat thought, the cooler interior of the jungle covering The Maw would be far preferable.

Title and Date

Taking to beach to scavenge yet again, Shimoje found himself unable to procure anything tangible the run. Just a few pieces of driftwood, and he was quickly learning that though drift wood had its uses, it was nothing compared to the fresh wood one could get from maybe the jungle. So instead of continuing his search walking the beach he prefered to investigate some of the wildlife on the beach.

Up above some strange birds, and down below crabs and weird crustaceans. Shimoje recognized the crabs from an inn located in syliras, but these seemed to be of a different variety, and he was curious. Well, both curious and hungry. Like a crazed boy he ran around the beach with his tamo daggers in hand occasionally striking down to kill a crab. Most ran away into the sea upon his approach. Though finally be managed to cut one off and dived into a plunging attack, killing the crab.

"Aha, Got you! " he yelled out in excitement. Plopping himself down onto the hot sands, he reached behind him. Getting out a scalpel he attempted to cut into the crab to dissect it. The top of it was far too hard." some sort of shell like bone? An exoskeleton? "

Turning the crab over he noticed that the under belly was a different color and could be depressed. Trying to dissect the crab there was a great success. Opening it up Shimoje could see the meat, but that wasn't the only thing there. Strange red and squishy ball like eggs were on the inside. Scraping his scalpel against the core of the meat and spooning some onto the scalpel the bald headed Zeltiavian inspected the rather delicate roux. "What are these? Eggs?"

Picking some of it up with his fingers the roux popped and squirted him in the face "no not eggs." he annoyingly retorted.

Shrugging the scientist decided to eat some of it, and was pleasantly surprised. It had an intense fishy and salty taste, and strangely enough he decided he liked it. Further dissecting crab he paid careful attention to the tendons and how they operated. While dissecting and studying he devoured the white and soft meat within. That is when he saw her. A strange lady, barely dressed, and waking the beach until she finally went to sit down.

He paused mid eating, almost frozen in her beauty, with a piece of meat hanging out of his mouth.
Shortly after departure of the Tipsy Wench, a deeply held secret started to show itself as Shimoje's mental stability started to become more clear. His hand will bear the mark of Lykata and glow with a symbol of Lormar.

We Never Failed To Fail. It Was The Easiest Thing To Do.

Swim.

That was her sole thought. Swim. Kick your legs and pull with your arms, move. Move now.

Swim.

Faster, Gods her lungs ached and her heart pounded. The surface was close, so close. Just a bit further. The young woman didn't dare to glance back, it would only slow her down. The sheer thought gave her more power to kick.

For the love of all the Gods, swim!

She broke the surface with a gasp, arms still pulling ferociously as she spied the rocky point. Arm over arm, legs moving in hard scissors, she prayed to every God who was ever to listen that she would reach it. Closer, closer, she was nearly there.

Something passed by her legs, the water surged and her felt a grating sandpapery touch rake her foot. Yelping, the svefra found herself practically running on water as she reached the rocks and hauled herself out of the ocean, scrambling across the sharp rocks and cutting open her hand. It barely registered as she turned and backed up further, blue eyes wide and heart in her mouth.

In the water below, a large dark shadow passed the rocks, one great black eye and a ragged fin breaking the waves to stare at her coldly as it passed. With a flick of a huge tail, the beastly fish turned and swam away, circling the area and waiting for someone a little less alert to drop in.

Alyria released a loud whoop, swearing profusely in Fratava and making her way to her feet. She was shaking and her heart still thudded in her chest as the adrenaline settled.

"By the Gods, I have never in all my travels seen a shark that big. A monster, a damned monster." The young fisherwoman yelled, speaking to herself but loud enough for those on the beach to hear. She wandered across the rocks with unsteady legs, blonde hair dripping and palm bloodied. Laughing, she glanced up and saw a woman with an ocean breeze pulling on her beautiful dark hair. Without pausing her tirade, she gestured at the water.

"Sharktooth Point! I would have just assumed it was a name, not a damn warning! Did you see that thing?!" Glancing down, Alyria noticed her hand.

"Oh. Damn."

The Kelvic scented the man before she saw him. The ocean winds were drawing an onshore flow that equated to living things which played with her hair and whispered secrets into her ears. "A storm would come tonight. Not a big one, but one that would indeed bring rain." Nya thanked them for their knowledge. She'd have to remember to tell Abashai and make sure their gear was secure. And maybe, just maybe, as a stormwarden she'd be able to create a stormgem tonight.

Meanwhile her attention turned to the stranger.

He was a weird combination of clean, metal, oil, and iron. The scent made more sense when she laid eyes on him and noticed his toolbelt that was overfull of things that could be used by a scientist or someone prone to torture others. In fact, he looked to be torturing a crab at the moment, which put her on edge. The woman thought to bare her teeth at him but curbed the instinct in favor of remaining still. She studied him instead, watching what he did to the crab a bit closer. And while he studied it, he also tasted it, which made her reconsider her earlier thought. Maybe he wasn't so much torturing it as he was carefully studying it for a potential food source. He ate what he tasted and didn't seem to find it ill suited for the purpose, so the girl watched on. She'd remembered the gulls chasing the crabs as well and suddenly thought they too might be a potential food source as well.

The man didn't seem to sicken in his feasting, and that to her meant the crabs were edible.

She gently sanded her map drawing, using the abundance of white gleaming almost sugar-like substance all around her. It dried the ink enough for her to close the journal and recap the ink. A helpful breeze blew the loose sand off her journal when it had done its job drying the ink.

Both the journal and her container of ink went into her backpack, along with the pen that was carefully stored as well. She rose, intending to last minute decide whether to leave abruptly or speak to the stranger. Nya didn't care much for strangers but unfortunately everyone here in Syka was someone she didn't know.

The girl stood for a moment, her eyes scanning the beach, the ocean, and lifting her head once more to scent the wind. The breeze she took advantage of. "Is he violent?" She whispered to the zephyrs flirting with her hair. The minions of Zulrav seemed to shrug in a very noncorporeal way. "We don't know. We've never seen him be so, but that means little, windchild." They never did give her real answers. But then she was a stranger to them as well. More time would see the various beezes and gusts more open to her while she was here. Nya knew trust was hard won no matter who you were dealing with and certainly knew no racial boundaries.

Decision made partially in regard to what the zephyrs said, Nya started towards him. She'd only taken two strides however when a woman rose from the waves and shouted.

Lost in her own train of thought, Nya wasn't sure she heard the woman right. Sharktooth point? Sharks? The Kelvic Stormwarden turned and studied the woman, halting her in her tracks. She seemed to consider the woman's words then shook her head.

Raising her own voice and indeed noting the man was now staring at her, she answered the woman's question. "No, I saw nothing. I was here on the beach not there where sharks prefer to roam. Perhaps being in the water with it is not such a good idea?" The Kelvic girl half asked, half suggested, still keeping her eye on the man. She offered neither a smile, but she did nod to the man and politely said hello.

"Hello. I'm mapping the beaches and plan to do the jungle around here as well. Did you like eating the crab? I didn't know humans could. I know the gulls like them." She added, dividing her attention between the man and the woman, not liking the fact she knew neither of them.

Syka was proving to be just as eventful as Syliras for Shimoje. If anything he almost suspected that soon trouble would be knocking against him at every turn he made. He was wary of the jungles mostly, and knew he shouldn’t travel there alone. That is why he stuck to the beaches. The seagulls weren’t much of a threat and the various crustaceans on the beaches didn’t pose much threat either. Though, strangers… he was always wary of them. Syka was full of unfamiliar and strange people. Some seemed to look as if they each had come from different parts of the world. Shimoje was no different, and he slightly chuckled when he gulped down the piece of meat hanging from his mouth. He took a moment to think as if it he was looking at himself in the eyes of others. A bald headed tattooed man with a white wolf pelt across his shoulders and cutting up a crab studying it. Yes, he was far more strange than a half dressed woman writing stuff on a paper that he was staring at.

Just as he was smiling from the strange thought and staring at the woman he heard the commotion from the waters. Looking out at the sea he instantly recognized the shark. He had come across such beasts in his sailing before, and this one wasn’t nearly as large as most. The larger ones preferred the open oceans. Shimoje wasn’t worried in the least. If anything the sea beast just got a little bit curious and then once figured out that it’s “prey” was bigger than it could eat easily turned away.

Shimoje walked closer to the woman who seemed to be in distress. He almost wanted to slap her out of her panic. A trick that worked once on himself when he panicked. Instead in a very uncaring voice he simply stated “Hardly the largest you can find.” He smiled as he held out his arm. On it a leather armband featuring marks of a tankard and a ships wheel. The armband had rather large shark teeth adorned all around it. The shark was one that attacked the Tipsy Wench in one of his many journeys and that he killed with a ballistae. The marks meant that he was a part of the crew and also considered part of the family. He still proudly wore the leather armband, even though his new family was long gone. “If that was truly a dangerous shark it would’ve torn you to shreds before you even knew it was there.” Shimoje remarked.

Finally deciding to wipe off his scalpel the man put his knife back in its proper place. As the woman spoke out to them both Shimoje payed close attention to her words. She spoke of the word human as if she wasn’t one. Then what was she? He turned his look back to her questioningly and retorted “Humans can eat all sorts of things, sharks included, what then does that make you?” While holding up his armband once more. He didn’t mean to seem impolite, but this strange woman instantly questioned him on his eating habits. He liked his food, especially the food he got to kill himself. Always made it taste better.

“Ah, I haven’t thought of actually mapping the beaches around here. I simply walk around.” He smiled towards them both. “Name is Shimoje, and who might you two be?” He said and then soon after shared a proper zeltivian bow to them both and pulled in his wolf pelt closer to cover his variety of tools.

“Ah, well… I am one for always enjoying a nice walk. I haven’t had the chance yet to explore into the jungle much. I could join you, but on one condition.” He knew he didn’t have much play with two strangers who seemed to fare rather well for themselves. “We each teach each other something new along the way!” His mark on his palm mostly unhidden started to shine just a fair bit brighter in the excitement as a cloud managed to cover the sun.

Postby Alyria Riptide on October 10th, 2016, 11:17 am

Alyria blinked at the woman for a moment, taking her time to register what had been said as she allowed her heart to slow down. It took her a moment, before she burst into a wide grin and chuckled. Nodding, the blonde inspected her hand whilst she laughed.

"Staying out of the water. That is a fantastic idea, or at least for now. Sage advice." The cut wasn't deep or even bleeding to severely. More of a nasty graze. It would sting like the fire of Syna tomorrow! Glancing up, she noticed the woman was also addressing a man who approached them. He was slim, dressed in white fur, sporting a fierce face and a shaved head with an intricate tattoo. There was something that burned in his almost neon green eyes, a fire for what she didn't yet know. As he approached though, the man smiled, and Alyria smiled back. She whistled impressively at his shark tooth band, nodding as he spoke.

"Oh aye, I'm sure you're right. Still didn't stop him stalking me up on the damned rocks. I must...wait...humans?" She paused her banter and glanced back at the brunette, pursing her lips as the man replied and looking closer. She was a pretty thing, no denying that, with hair that wasn't quite brown or black or any other single colour she could put her finger on. It reminded her of thick pelts she had seen in trade back home. The woman had yet to smile either, but she didn't come across as unfriendly just.....different. Alyria took in her transcendent gaze with somewhat a small feeling of shock. It was almost like she wanted to get lost in those hypnotic moss green eyes.

Shaking her head suddenly, the young svefra born pulled herself back into the conversation, feeling a little unsettled by what had just occurred. Indeed, what had just occurred?

Curious.

"Well met Shimoje. I am Alyria." She turned another smile on him, blue eyes taking in the tools that his white fur was pulled closer over.

"Indeed, I'm up to explore with you both, as long as we are inland for the while." She said with a smirk, noticing his palm shining in a most peculiar way.

"I'm not sure what I can teach you along the way, but I am more than happy to try."

We Never Failed To Fail. It Was The Easiest Thing To Do.

Nya hadn’t had much contact with people since her time in captivity in Ravok. Zulrav’s creatures kept her company. They distracted her from the dark memories there, a time of pain and loss. The Kelvic forest cat shook her head to clear the creep of memories that threatened to overcome her with Shimoje’s proximity. He was a stranger and male. Males were dangerous. So too could females, though Nya had less experience with the dangerous kind. Breezes, zephyrs, and little gusts of wind were much safer companions and far more honest in their conversations.

To the forest cat body language was everything. It was something creatures without true bodies lacked. And she’d missed watching expression and stance to interpret what the words of humans really meant. Neither of her two companions seemed aggressive. She watched them both closely anyhow. Anxiety made the skin on her exposed arms ripple once then twice, the only indication she was nervous.

Nya kept the journal that was now closed tucked up to her chest and she tilted her head to think on what Shimoje had proposed. Abashai and Nya had made quick stops in cities along their trip from Lormar Tower to Syka. But always the forest cat had the Benshira to focus on to calm her nervousness around people. Shai wasn’t here though. And they were no longer bonded and no longer married. Ravok had seen to that. She flashed her teeth at the thought, shifting nervously, before she took a calming breath and steadied. Once, she had been open, friendly, and without a care having been raised lovingly and carefully under parents that took time to well educate her and nurture her natural intelligence.

No longer though. She’d learned about the blackness that dwelled in the hearts of men. Talking to these strangers was a huge step for her. Plastering on a half-friendly mask was another. And though neither of these people looked dangerous to her, she still knew caution.

If they looked at her closely they might realize why. Long brindled hair would be blown back out of her face revealing a long column of neck. Her neck bore scars of her time restrained among the Ebonstryfe. She’d wore a heavy collar for most of that season and it had restrained her from shifting. A plain tunic covered the rest of her and the heavy scarring her body bore. Though still young, Nya knew she was no longer the great beauty Abashai had loved and married. Men had done that. The secrets of the past and creatures that had no place in today’s world had broken other parts of her.

Nya had already died once. She had a great caution about doing so again.

So when Shimoje moved to cover his things on his belt, Nya’s green eyes flashed in annoyance. Already the man was trying to conceal things. Didn’t he realize they could smell those metal and wooden devices affixed to his belt? He was pungent with the iron of his things and the oils he used to maintain them. A wind whispered in her ear and had her turning to glance at the little zephyr before returning her attention to Shimoje. Zulrav’s minions were trying to distract her. “He’s done no harm since he’s been here. Not to your kind at least, the people, as far as we’ve seen.” The little wind said. Nya wondered if the little zephyr had seen him destroy the crab? She had. But then again how many kills had she taken down and eaten or dragged home since she’d been here? Many. At the thought of food, her stomach growled loudly but settled as her anxiety overwhelmed her hunger and kept her focused on the pair in front of her.

Humans. The man was talking to the other woman now. It relieved Nya a bit. When they were talking to each other they weren’t focused on her.

So quick to show off their wounds and trophies that to Nya just revealed their tendencies to do things less than intelligent. Sharks. Huh. She ran her hand down the spine of her journal to comfort herself, to reassure herself that mapping was the right thing to do. Shimoje’s agreement to join her was almost a disappointment. She had wanted to be alone. She liked being alone. Shai worried about her new tendencies to keep to her own company when once she’d been outgoing and engaging. He knew the reasons though and gave her space even as he quietly worried.

“I learn every day. It’s not a hard promise. No touching though.” Nya said, figuring she’d throw that in while they were trading conditions. “I do not like to be touched.” Her skin rippled again as if she shivered or trembled. “My name is Nya.” She added, almost as an afterthought.

Shimoje and Alyria. Their names were unique and not unpleasant. Nya had let Alyria’s comment where she’d been asking a question without asking one about the forest cats human comment drop. She hadn’t answered it and the kelvic hadn’t returned attention to it as the conversation moved on. Nya had gotten good at evasion. She didn’t like too many questions unless she volunteered information on her own. It wasn’t personal against others. It was self-preservation.

Alyria was pretty in a wild way with sea tangled hair that ended in thick padded locks that Nya had never seen before. The woman’s face was pieced with metal that had Nya fleetingly wondering why. It made her look tough. Maybe that was why. Did someone pierce her face and make her wear them as punishment? The Kelvic tilted her head and thought about that a while. Why would she still be wearing them then? Voluntary. They must be voluntary. Huh.

“What do you wish to learn?” She asked, more curious than concerned for a moment. The question seemed to be directed to both of them, as she looked somewhere between the two.

"Well met Nya." Alyria said with a small nod of her head and a broad grin on her face. There was something about the woman that the young svefra born couldn't put her finger on. It almost seemed like she was shy, but then her gaze portrayed an intensity that begged to be noticed. The contrast both intrigued and unnerved her.

Putting her hand to her mouth, Alyria blew on her graze as she eyed the brunette.

"I can promise you, no touching. I'm more of a from-a-distance kind of person." She chuckled, before shrugging her shoulders.

"What can you teach me? I've dedicated my time to the water and the creatures in it, so I am probably not great at navigating land terrain, certainly not as well as land-dwellers." Casting blue eyes behind Nya, she gestured widely to the beach and vegetation beyond.

"I would be fascinated to see what lies in there, beyond the sands. I've read...er..heard...interesting things." Alyria corrected herself with a smile, before gesturing to Nya.

"If your planning on mapping the area, perhaps you could teach me some of your skills?"
