The Diamond of Kalea is located on Kalea's extreme west coast and called as such because its completely made of a crystalline substance called Skyglass. Home of the Alvina of the Stars, cultural mecca of knowledge seekers, and rife with Ethaefal, this remote city shimmers with its own unique light.

3rd of Winter, 516 AV
Rainbow Falls

Sunlight played over the mists, each cascade sprayed with echoes of one color or another. Thomas had expected the water to be a saturated kaleidoscope. Instead, he found the falls possessed a more subtle beauty. Still impressive, but the colors were far more delicate than he'd first imagined. That, along with the unseasonably warm weather they were suffering (apparently), made for a very scenic view.

Already people were taking advantage of the failed winter. Couples sprawled over plaid picnic blankets, delighting in the autumn sun. Parents watched as their children laughed, daring each other closer to the tepid, clear waters. Thomas was surprised to see a few people fishing.

Did the fish know winter was coming late? He'd seen one or two swimming in the larger pools. There were, supposedly, more. The notices plastered around the city warned of eventual disaster. Droughts, fires, insects. Animals hunting in city locales. Still, Thomas couldn't help but be suspect. It seemed strange that the natural gods placed so much emphasis on the seasons. That they placed so much responsibility and trust on one individual.

Thomas settled on a bench accompanied with a table, some distance away from the main area. Estrellir might appreciate the relative quiet.

The mage pulled a folded paper out of his pocket, wrinkled and speckled with dirt. It was one of the many notices that had seemingly arrived overnight, promising harm to Morwen and her followers.

He hoped to what Estrellir felt on the news, but more importantly, see what the Konti could divine about the paper.

Looking While Falling (Est please)

Three days into winter, nearly everyone had noticed what was missing. Lhavitians picnicked, hiked, fished and hunted in the warm weather. Winter hadn’t come and the other seasons put the blame on its goddess.

Estrellir maintained her distaste of the weather. No matter which season was summoned, she still felt it was autumn: chilly, windy, dry. After living through her first summer on the peaks, however, she could appreciate the absence of muggy heat that tormented swamp dwellers back in Kenash. As it was neither summer nor winter though, she felt more strongly about the recent declaration regarding Morwen than the weather that had inspired it.

Despite that, she still dressed more warmly than most in her big cloak, scarf wrapped around her gilled neck (if only once). On a lazy stroll through town, her feet led her out towards the trail of waterfalls, following the masses, so to say. The detective had closed her business for the day so she could walk among the people and listen to their conversations. What did Lhavit think about Morwen and Her Vantha? Would they be hunted? The most important question, however, was uttered either privately or not at all.

Of course, she also had an appointment and was already looking forward to comparing notes and opinions with Thomas, her returned Auristics teacher. When she entered the open space at the base of Rainbow Falls, however, she had her mind set on something else. Upon spotting him on a bench, she trudged over to stare down on him, fists on hips. “You owe me an explanation. Where were you?”

Fiddling with the folded paper, Thomas didn't notice Estrellir; his magic, however, did.

The wizard had grown confident with auristics. He'd spent the last season (and then some) huddled inside the Twilight Tower, using whatever political capitol he had avoiding teaching in favor of more practical endeavors. Thomas had wielded his spells loosely, his castings sprawling before him like tentacles, hungrily grabbing and pulling at whatever information they could steal. The world dazzled in secrets and buzzed with a delicious vibrancy; he hated having to silence this hidden world in favor of mundane -- and he tried to not do so.

He breathed a pulse out magic away, echoing into the space around him. The world become more as it was covered by his casting. Thomas was suddenly aware of the autumn-yellowed grass, the delicate cool breezes, the old wood that made up his rickety bench. His spell twirled around him, catching everything, exploring the dampening frozen yellows of an almost winter.

And then there was Estrellir. His magic embraced her aura, greedy tendrils blossoming through the ocean that defined her. An easy turquoise, spongy and warm, welcoming curiosity. "I don't think I owe you anything, much less an explanation," Thomas breathed into an easy smirk, catching the colors of her annoyance, "I was in Lhavit, if you absolutely have to know. I just wasn't teaching last season," he added, a courtesy in his mind.

"I hope you've kept up in practice; I would be disappointed to know that you spent all of fall guessing my whereabouts," he pulled out the folded paper, bringing it to the center of the table. "What can you tell me about this?" he asked, his gaze and spell pointed at the Konti.

“It was worth a try, obviously.” Her arms fell from her hips before Estrellir sat down and a beginning smirk formed on her lips in response to his. After all, he’d given an explanation, and to her, it didn’t matter why or how.

She took him in then, refreshing memory of what she already knew, but also cataloguing differences. A tad bit more confident, more relaxed, perhaps. Then again, it was what everyone expected of mages: self-centered vanity. As usual, Estrellir filed those thoughts away for later musings. If he had taken a break from teaching, it was likely for his own magic.

The smirk lit up a little when he asked about her practice. “On the contrary. I have a business now, called The Rabbit Hole. It’s all about finding things. You should visit.” Sitting a little straighter, she made an effort to sober up. The way he was looking at her felt more and more suspicious, likely he was already observing her aura. Reading undertones as if she’d spelled them out for him. “I practiced too, of course.”

The discomfort, however slight, was beginning to annoy her. Not knowing enough would only push her to learn faster though. When the folded paper was presented, she took it almost hungrily. Unfolding and inspecting it was instinct, she did it without hesitation or asking – after all, should one not utilize all resources available to gather information? Straightening it against the table, she looked up briefly to confirm. “You mean by means of magic, not logic and reason.”

Then, slightly irritated but just as excited (if not more), Estrellir willed her breathing to slow and her mind to sink into that quiet pool of darkness. If anything, she’d gotten better at finding that specific state within herself and easing her mind into it, so it didn’t take long until she reopened her eyes. Squinting against brilliant color, she looked down at the paper. First, her fingers – almost overshadowing the inanimate object between them. With focus, however, she would separate the two.
