Orin was exhausted. It had been a long day and showed no signs of ending anytime soon. He'd gotten up even before the crack of dawn to get an early start on his job for today. And it had probably been the biggest challenge for his culinary talents that Orin had ever faced. He'd had to cook and cater for not one, but two birthday parties. Only one had really been called for as work. Alexander Ross, whom Orin had met a few times at various events, had hired out The Rearing Stallion for an evening, and the cooks who worked there along with it. The twenty golden mizas the man had paid definitely didn't cover the costs of the evening. Still, there were obvious perks to being a member of the Syliran Order and Alexander, as a squire, apparently had access to them. When that thought struck Orin he wondered idly if this was Alexander's idea in the first place. The Alexander Orin had met was a pretty awkward fellow. More so than Orin himself if such a thing were possible. Takes one to know one. Orin wouldn't have put it past Alexander's patron knight to have quietly suggested this celebration. Especially if the knight was as shrewd as Alexander had described. It was honestly shocking how many squires had issues communicating with people in one way or another. So the Order must do something to make them acclimated to associating with others, and perhaps subtly throwing them into situations where they were forced to socialize was part of it.

This however, was the second party of the day and Orin had no one to blame but himself for the first one. It just so happened that Orin’s good friend Sayana and Alexander shared the same birthday. Orin had already been thinking and planning out a party for Sayana. It seemed too good an opportunity to pass up, having both parties on the same day, in the same place, and with Orin in charge of the preparations for both. Of course, Orin hadn’t realized how thinly he’d be stretched by the end of the day. People were supposed to relax at parties and have fun. Orin just got more stressed. Partly that was because even though these events were for other people, Orin had a hand in the preparations and organizing them, so he felt responsible. Nothing could go wrong or Orin would’ve felt terrible about it. So he’d set out at Sayana’s celebration to do everything in his power to make it as perfect as possible. Being a good host took a lot of energy but Orin hadn’t wanted to burden Sayana with the pressure of something she herself hadn’t expected. It was the least he could do. And Orin didn’t regret a single chime of it.

Mostly, though, Orin felt drained because, even though he was getting much better with individuals and those few brave souls who had befriended him, Orin still didn’t do well with crowds. They made him anxious and brought back terrible memories of being ridiculed by his peers, his elders, and his community. Almost any public outing or dance with many people involved ended in Orin either humiliating himself or with people deliberately seeking to make him the butt of every joke. Orin knew he wasn’t the brightest individual and that he had some major personality flaws and that people didn’t like his quirks. So Orin mostly avoided everyone he didn’t know very well, or situations where he might embarrass himself in front of a crowd. Still, he needed to get over these weird anxieties, especially if people were going to continue to ask him to cater events.

Orin had informed everyone at Sayana’s party that they needed to clear out, but he couldn’t tell how successful his order had been. There were still people milling about. The issue was that Orin couldn’t exactly tell who was staying from Sayana’s surprise birthday party and who had actually already shown up for Alexander’s celebration, if anyone had yet. Orin though, wasn’t going to worry much about it. Even though Alexander has specifically asked for Orin to cater, renting The Rearing Stallion meant that overseeing this party fell squarely on the shoulder of Ser Kevith and Remi. If they were choosing not to shoo everyone out then Orin figured they knew what they were doing. Besides, Orin vaguely remembered Alexander basically issuing an open invitation to anyone even remotely connected to him. Or maybe it was the Knighthood. Of course, seeing as the vast majority of the guests at Sayana’s party were affiliated with the Order in some form or another, they could easily be attending Alexander’s as well, and cover the guests who weren’t as their dates for the evening if they had to. It probably wouldn’t come to that, though. All Orin really had to think about though was guarding the food and handing it out to people who asked. The fish curry was on his left, the apple cider roast pork with vegetables on the side was on his right and the strawberry tarts that were dessert were behind him. He sagged against the table, feeling the weight of exhaustion pressing down on him. He was almost done though, and Orin knew that he could fade into the background if it got too bad for him.

[Rearing Stallion] Alexander's Amazing Birthday Bash (Open)

Alexander Ross

Alexander sighed nervously, an uncomfortable churning feeling in his stomach. Today was the big day. Not only is he now nineteen years old, but Ranqor had insisted that he rent the Rearing Stallion and hold a party. A few weeks before, Alex had asked that Orin would cater for his party while he had been helping the cook bake a loaf of bread. Even though the boy never cared much for parties, he could not help but feel a bit of excitement when Orin agreed. But now, he just felt nervous all over again, and he feared how the party would go.

"Getting a bit jumpy, eh lad?" Ranqor said, roughly patting him on the shoulder. "This is good for you, whether you like it or not. You need friends, and this is a great opportunity to make some. It'll also help you get to know the few you already have." Alex rubbed his shoulder and rolled his eyes, annoyed that he was hearing the same lecture over again. It was true, though; Alex needed to work on his social skills. And Ranqor had no problem taking the boy out of his comfort zone.

He thought back to Sayana's party, and how it had gone. Of course, he was pretty sure that nothing like that could happen this time. If things did take a turn for the worse, then the knights would be there before things would get too out of hand. He wanted this party to be simple and fun for everyone, while hopefully avoiding too much attention. He would not mind a "happy birthday" or two, but he may just faint of embarrassment if all eyes were suddenly on him.

Alex followed his patron through the doors of the Rearing Stallion, and they were immediately greeted with the scent of food and ale, something that made the boy look forward to whenever the food was passed out despite his usual personal rule of not overindulging. He found Orin standing in front of a few tables that held all of the food preparations. "Hey, Orin! Thanks again for doing this. Everything looks amazing!" He said, doing his best to sound as cheerful as he could. He noticed that the cook seemed to be leaning against the table. "Um... You okay there? You look exhausted."
"I've never failed anyone, because there isn't anyone in my life who I can make proud."

Avanze grunted, showing he was still paying attention. Of course, he was being chewed out by Naka, his patron, once again. This time, for something stupid. He'd forgotten to oil his armor and clean it again. Yes, again. Naka made him do it at least once every few days, and he had to go at it for bells at a time, oiling every little spot of metal, then cleaning it over again. She always seemed to find places where he didn't hit with the cleaning rag. It irked him to huge degrees, and she would make him go over the entire thing again, not even pointing out the place where he'd missed.

Her voice had now risen to yelling; her eyes frantic, her hands very animated, and her white hair flying about her head. She was going on and on about how "not taking proper care of your equipment could lead to your death." It was the same speech every time he got ragged on about not cleaning his things correctly. Well, he had cleaned his Lakan quite well. It had a beautiful sheen to it, as it always had. She seemed to have totally ignored the work he did on that, but he understood why. He'd do the same thing, in her position.

Getting up from his bunk, towering over his patron, he bowed slightly, which elicited a lull in her rant. Right when she took this pause, he jumped on the chance to get his words across, and hopefully get a free pass for today. "Naka, I know, I know. I need to make cleaning my gear into a habit, which I'm trying to do. I'm just exhausted today. I want to go to sleep, and stay asleep for a long time." He brought his hands up and placed them on her shoulders, looking into her eyes. He gave her a pleading expression, which always worked when he was trying to persuade her about something.

She gave a sigh, before nodding.... Though, she didn't allow him to go to sleep. "Do you remember the Squire, Alexander Ross?" Avanze blinked, before thinking about it for awhile. He was sure he'd seen him around Syliras a few times. He nodded slightly, his right eyebrow raising on his forehead. "It's his birthday today. The Rearing Stallion, and get him something nice. Wysar knows you have too many mizas." This made Avanze grin; Naka had gone to using Wysar instead of other gods. Maybe to make him feel more at home, or something like that. He didn't know, but it made him feel better.

--------------

Walking into the pub known as the Rearing Stallion, he had to duck, remembering not to his head. He'd gone and gotten his fellow Squire a nice embroidered satin, black broad brim hat along with a beautiful black satin cloak complete with fine buckles and chains, which he also had a matching black satin hood. They'd cost a good amount; he hoped the birthday boy liked them.

He looked around, glancing at the room's patrons for this day. He looked around for the Squire, hoping to get these gifts to him before he forgot.

Finally locating the teen, he walked over to him, presenting him with the gifts. "Happy birthday. I'm Avanze. My Patron told me today was your birthday, so I got you something." He motioned to the items still in his hand, a small, friendly smile on his face.

Receipt :
Cloak = 5 SM x (x20[Satin] + x20[Buckles and Chains, Fine]) = 5 SM x 40 = 200 SM = 2 GM

Broad Brimmed Hat = 4 GM x (x20[Satin] + x5[Embroidered]) = 4 GM x 25 = 100 GM

Total Price = 102 GM

Note: I'm pretty sure this is right. I may or may not have read the Price List wrong, so this may be off or right on target.

[Rearing Stallion] Alexander's Amazing Birthday Bash (Open)

Garland had been here since Sayana's party. He had lost track of April, she may have already left or was passed out somewhere, he didn't know. In all honesty, he was stuffed, and had forgot to get Alex a birthday present. He didn't know the squire all that much, but he had fought beside him before, and that was enough reason for him to join his party. Besides, parties didn't need gifts, right? Just being there with the gift of friendship and companionship is all that matters, right?

He was maybe a little buzzed himself. "Hey! Alex! Happy Birthday man!" He said and went over to the glasses wearing squire. "Here, have a drink!" He passed on a mug of ale. "You missed Sayana's party Alex. You should have joined in! Anyway, who did you invite to your party? And more importantly, how's your arm? You feeling better?"

He looked over to the other party goers. "Hey! Alex is here!" He took a sip of his own mug of ale. "How have you been, buddy?"

[Rearing Stallion] Alexander's Amazing Birthday Bash (Open)

The small Konti woman was on a mission, to discover something different. She had lived in Syliras for a while now, but she kept to herself and her apartment aside from working as a Fortune Teller for a few coin to support her living. Tonight though, she decided to explore a bit further then what she normally would, and saw a dangling red and white sign that depicted a rearing stallion, with the word Tavern written on it. She had seen the sign before, but never ventured inside, nor gave it a further inspection, but since this was an exploration, she thought to herself “Why not give it a try?”

Moxie walked through the door and noticed there were more people then she had first realized inside the Tavern. The pale women furrowed her brow as she looked around the Tavern. It wasn’t as well lit as she had hoped, though there was lanterns on the tables producing some light, as well as a rather large fireplace at one end that lit that part of the Tavern fairly well. She saw a younger male with short dark brown hair who stood at what she suspected to possibly be taller than she was, but still not as tall as some men. He had a mug of ale, and seemed to be feeling its effects slightly. Moxie backed away from the man and went further into the tavern, still a little confused as to why so many people graced this place on this night. She glanced back and saw the dark haired man talking to another, with shaggy brown hair and thin reading glasses perched on his nose.

She was starting to feel a bit of a panic rise up, from all the people mingling and milling around, none of which did she know, or at least she didn’t see a familiar face in the crowd at the moment. A faint smell tantalized her nostrils, something different, yet delicious permeated the air. Barely noticed due to all the bodies crowding the space and their sweat mingling with the sweet scent. Moxie glanced over and finally saw a familiar face, a small smile danced on her lips as she walked over to Orin Fenix. There was a dish with what looked to be fish possibly to his left, another meat on his right, and the sweet smell of strawberry something behind him. He was sagging against a table, looking quite exhausted.

The lithe Konti walked up to him, with the smile on her face, “Hello..Stranger.” Moxie said in her best common she could muster, some words were lost to her since she only had basic knowledge of the language. “What is..?” Her small white hands spread out to encompass the party of people, signaling that she did not understand why so many people were here, and she wanted to know exactly what was going on. She hoped Orin would catch on to what she was trying to say in common, her Konti accent heavy still in the language, though it was better than it used to be.

Moxie was a woman of few words anyway, well until one got to know her at least. She looked up at the tall, black haired man for help with her confusion, staring into pale blue eyes a bit pleadingly. She felt utterly small compared to him, though she knew he was kind and did not fear the man standing before her, even though she had a hard time trusting people and trust still was an issue with Orin, he was the only familiar face she could find among the crowd.
