[The inked Pen] Marking of Memories

32nd Of Spring 517

The woman winced slightly as she was tattooed, she was very uncomfortable but she had felt much worse pain in her life. Her idea had been odd, but it felt suitable, and she considered it a birthday gift to herself.

She was in a terrible mood, and she was sure the man had picked up on that as he was silent as he did the design on the top of her right hand. The con artist had picked there so that anyone could see it, and that she could see it often to. As a reminder of what she had lost, but a reminder to move ahead and to continue on living. Florian wouldn't have wanted her to stay mourning forever. She needed to leave the past as it was, and it was only then that she had truly understood that.

Memories were usually permanent, but so was the tattoo. She rather liked the design that was being drawn on her. A small dagger similar to Florian's that she now owned, with a Rose curving around it. It was symbolic, that her brother would also be there with her in her mind. She had put a lot of thought into it, and had carefully described every detail so the tattoo would look as she wanted.

Her horrible memories just made the good memories that much better and stronger, so perhaps they were a blessing in disguise. Though she doubted it heavily, she was nowhere near over her abusive childhood and brother's death, yet she considered it a good step forward towards moving on, something that she now knew was needed.

Her other tattoo was covered by her sleeve, that she was glad for since it wasn't something she liked to see. The young woman had considered having it covered many times before, and considered it again now. Yet she found that she didn't feel that she needed to anymore, sure her cousin had found her by the tattoo being seen, but she oddly didn't want it gone.

She closed her eyes in an attempt to ignore the pain on her hand, focusing on her thoughts instead. It wasn't often that the woman had time to think, so she decided it was as good as any a time.

Roselina had already thought through what she was doing getting the dagger tattooed onto her hand, and had decided it was a good idea. Even if there was no going back from having it tattooed, she had liked the idea of it, thought about it beforehand, and then gone ahead and done it the very next day.

That was how things usually went for her anyway, it was the same for the majority of her sometimes not well thought out ideas, such as a con to pull or things to do. Yet this was different, she had thought about it.

The tattoo looked about half done by then, the blade had been drawn, and it looked a bit different than the actual dagger she owned, it curved unlike her own dagger, and the handle was more intricate.

A little while after that Rose felt better than she had earlier, and curiosity took over. She wanted to know about what the tattooing was. How it was done, what the man thought of it. The woman didn't know much of proper careers, since she knew her own could never be called a proper job, and wanted to know about them. They seemed boring, yet maybe the woman was wrong.

"How does it work?" The woman abruptly asked, smiling. "The tattooing?" She paused again before asking another. "How come it doesn't fade?" The tattooist smiled, seeming happy to answer her question, and a little surprised that she had spoken.

"I use the needle to put the ink on, making the tattoo. That makes it so it doesn't fade."

They woman fell silent again, happy with the answer and let the other get on with his work. After a few bells the tattoo was done, a Rose with leaves and thorns having been added to the dagger, curving around it. The con artist, for once, didn't con the man, paying the 4gm for the small tattoo and happily looking at her right hand as she left. She was sure Florian would have been happy too.
