Keeping busy on the long road...

The Wilderness of Cyphrus is an endless sea of tall grass that rolls just like the oceans themselves. Geysers kiss the sky with their steamy breath, and mysterious craters create microworlds all their own. But above all danger lives here in the tall grass in the form of fierce wild creatures; elegant serpents that swim through the land like whales through the ocean and fierce packs of glassbeaks that hunt in packs which are only kept at bay by fires. Traverse it carefully, with a guide if possible, for those that venture alone endanger themselves in countless ways.

25th of Spring, 517AV

"Just two more weeks!"

The melodic voice rang out amidst the relative silence of the peaceful spring day, the only other noises to be heard being the sound of hooves on dirt and the rattling of caravans as they rolled on through The Sea of Grass. It was not as if any of the other members of the group had asked or needed to be reminded of the time it would take for them to finally reach their destination, but they all knew by now that there was indeed, no way of stopping the cheerful bard who called himself Chrysanthemum.

Kamilla had been sitting in the same place she'd spent most of their long journey, in her spot on one of the caravans focused on the book in front of her. Twice the watchtowers had flared since they'd left Zeltiva and in that time she had read through her copy of The Treval Codex at least three times. Between reading, writing and napping there was not much else for the young woman to do, besides shunning the endless advances from the overly extroverted bard who'd taken a liking to her one day into their journey.

"Kamilla, Kamilla! Mysterious as the night, with the allure of a rose and thorns that bite!... Oh, don't tell me you're reading that awful book again!"

She responded to both the song and the comment with a single roll of her deep brown eyes, hoping it would be enough to banish the bothersome man but, at the same time, knowing full well that it wouldn't. With a sigh she looked up from the pages and toward the man who'd decided to trail the caravan on foot for the time being, strumming his lute blissfully as he beamed at her. "It's either this 'awful book' or listening to you ramble on yet again..." she stated, "... I much prefer the former." she added, a hint of a smile playing at her red lips from the small satisfaction she got from putting him down, but as always the bard remained unaffected, they'd done this for nearly a season and a half now and he seldom got discouraged.

"You wound me m'lady. How can a creature as beautiful as you be so frigid."

She let out a small laugh, unable to stop herself, the bard may have been a constant nuisance to her but at the same time he had been her only real entertainment during the long journey, unlike the rest of their fellow travelers Chrysanthemum never seemed to lose his optimistic spark, which had proven to be both a blessing and a curse. "Fine then, tell me another one of your ridiculous tales." she said as she closed her book and set it aside, letting her legs hang off the edge of the caravan before crossing both them and her arms expectantly.

"Ha! As you wish! Now let's see..."

The bard clapped his hands together in a manner far too grand for their current setting, seemingly overjoyed by the chance to share one of his prized stories. Turning his head in all directions as if in search of something, his gaze finally settled back on Kamilla's form and a spark could be seen within his eyes.

"Ah yes, how about The Tale of Pegbeard The Legless Pirate..."
"You've told us that one already." she interrupted.
"Oh, then Neandra The Illiterate Librarian?"
"Heard it."
"Now I know I haven't shared the story of the reimancer who carried his home across the sky with naught but a gust of his own creation."

Kamilla's brows furrowed together and crossed arms tightened, "That's implausible, such a feat would take a godly amount of power which I'm sure no mortal mage has ever-" she cut herself off realizing that she was only wasting her breath attempting to discredit an already absurd tale.

"You act as if you know a lot about mages, beautiful Kamilla."

The bard's skepticism was well placed, he had no idea, but the sorceress just shrugged it off. She hadn't told any of the members of her traveling troupe about her arcane abilities, this was after all not Sahova and she had no idea how they would react. Luckily there had been no incidents during their trip that required she expose herself and as for the Treval Codex, no one had seemed aware of the type of book it was. Her glyphing practice however, had been far more difficult to dismiss but once she'd admitted to enjoying drawing the ignorant fools had simply seen them as patterns from there onwards.

There was a short but awkward silence between them before Kamilla spoke again, "Very well then, tell me this story which will no doubt be as far fetched as all the others." she permitted him, though her eyes were glazed over in thought once he began, absorbed in searching the deceased mage Felius' memories for any interesting details about Riverfall.

Several bells later Kamilla found herself in a familiar position, with the darkness of night having fallen and the entirety of her travel group fast asleep, it was a common occurrence for her to be the only one awake during the later hours. While others rested she used the time to enjoy her solitude, the peace and quiet allowing her to focus on whatever she wished to focus on at that time.

The young sorceress was still seated at the back of the wagon, her hooded lantern beside her, illuminating the empty pages of one of her blank books as her quill hovered impatiently over it. She seemed unable to bring herself to write anything about herself or her thoughts for the longest time now, her failure to procure the rank of wizard on Sahova had taken its toll on her confidence and was one of the reasons she had packed up everything to move to Riverfall, a far away city which her only memories of were in fact not her own.

Her shortcomings had not exactly shaken her to the core or anything so dramatic, she was still determined, still desired both power and knowledge but she was annoyed with herself and recognized the need for change. Hopefully Riverfall would provide her with the inspiration she needed and if it didn't, she would move on again.

Groaning softly to herself Kamilla admitted defeat in the battle to write down any of her current thoughts and feelings on her life and its recent developments, it was simply not to be. Having given up on writing, the sorceress decided to spend her alone time drawing instead, practicing her glyphs was never a bad thing and she often found it helped to keep her mind off of things she was unable to change.

Long sweeping and spiraling motions were made by her left hand as it pressed the quill to the page, her personalized focus glyph contained no corners or sharp edges, instead it gave off a very flowing and floral aesthetic, something the sorceress felt represented her to an extent. She was certainly getting better at drawing them, her movements were practiced and the time taken was noticeably shorter. Focus glyphs were after all the most important as they were what stored and released the magic.

Although Felius' memories were of no help to her in improving her own skills at glyphing, the images of what he had been able to do, with what Kamilla had originally thought a very mundane discipline, had certainly impressed her and given her the goal of improving her own skills. All she needed to do was practice.

As experienced as she was now, she had only ever really used focus glyphs to either help the transfer of information from one animation circle to the next or by drawing them on her palms to make res production more fluid. The advantages of a focus were clear but what she had yet to experiment with was combining them with other glyphs such as paths, barriers and triggers to try and form a sort of written magical mechanism.

Taking a deep breath and exhaling, adding her own subtle sounds to those of the night which included the soft sounds of the breeze passing through the grass and Chrysanthemum, who even in his sleeping bells could not restrain short and often unintelligible fragments of stories and songs from escaping his lips. He was certainly unique, in that Kamilla was certain she'd never met anyone like him.

"Only two more weeks." she heard the sleeping bard say.

Grim as an Eiyon, appears to undead as either something to be fearful, or weary of, depending on their personal power. To others, he might seem like a mystery, or just odd.
