Home of the Konti people, this ivory city is built of native konti stone half in and half out of the sea. Its borders touch the Silverwood, and stretch upwards towards Silver Lake, home of the infamous konti vision water. [Lore]

Exploring the Coastline

Okara considered Aladari’s explanation of her relationship with water with a thoughtful expression. It made sense, feeling out of control was uncomfortable and at times scary, things you did not want to be feeling in the open water. Okara disliked the deeper parts of the ocean for that reason, it was difficult to feel in control of the situation when everything was dark and you could not see what lurked above or below you. That was the realm of creatures that Okara did not wish to encounter.

“That makes sense, feeling in control on top of the water, I mean. I can understand how you might feel out of control in the water when you lack gills.” Okara said. Gazing down at the short webbing between her fingers she also considered that Aladari did not have the most ideal body for prolonged time in the ocean either though she kept that thought to herself. Okara felt so at home in the ocean with water rushing over her scales it was hard to imagine how humans might feel without the advantages of the Konti physique.

Okara finished braiding the threads and stood carefully holding each end of the braid. It wasn’t as long as she would have liked but it would do. They wouldn’t be able to fish in very deep waters with the fishing line she had made but they had no boat to access such depths so it hardly mattered. Okara approached the stick Aladari had stuck into the ground. She hadn’t tied off the ends of the braid and tied the loose thread in a knot around the stick. She laid the other unknotted end gently on the ground so it would not unravel while it awaited a hook.

Okara listened to Aladari’s instructions and slowly nodded, she thought she understood the hook concept that had been explained. Now it was Okara’s turn to search through the underbrush at the edge of the Silverwood for sticks. She found a few sticks of the right length but they broke easily when she tested them. Moving her hands around the loamy soil she flipped over a rock and spotted a worm. Picking it up she was pleased to have another needed item checked off the list. After a few chimes she emerged from the woods edge with two sticks of appropriate length that she thought could handle a little pressure from a fish. She showed the sticks to Aladari for approval.

“And look what else I found under a rock!” Okara held up the wriggling long worm to show Aladari as well. She placed the worm near the incomplete fishing pole where the two women could keep an eye on it so it didn’t wriggle away. Okara drew the kitchen knife out of her picnic basket again and began to carve the tip of one of the sticks into a point. As she moved the blade edge along the side of the stick she tried not to think about how dull her knives would be after this and how much sharpening they would need to return to kitchen quality. It was the price she had to pay for not being more prepared.

“Okay, that’s pretty dang sharp, yowch.” Okara said, testing the tip of the sharpening stick with her finger and pulling back when a dot of red bloomed at the testing site. With a small hint of concentration her gnosis glowed briefly and the tiny cut sealed itself. She wiped the dot of blood on her pants and looked up at Aladari again.

“So how exactly does this come together again? We just sort of tie them?” Okara asked, her cheeks blossoming pink from embarrassment. She held the two small sticks in her hands awkwardly, not sure how they were meant to tie together. “Umm… maybe you should show me?”

“Do we need more thread to tie it? I can do that!” Okara said helpfully. If Aladari took the sticks from her she would return to the picnic blanket and unravel more thread which she would bring back to Aladari.

OOCIf Aladari wants to handle the pole to fish, Okara can swim out and drive in some fish or she can help bring the fish to shore once it is on the hook.

Aladari took the sticks in her hands when she was offered them, taking one in each. She held them up to the light to examine, smiling at their craftmanship. It wasn't perfect, in fact it was quute crude, but it was good enough for their purposes. And most importantly, it was sharp.

Once Okara was finished with her thread, Aladari took that as well. "Yes, watch me." She laid the sticks on the ground, with one end overlapping. She took the thread and began winding it around the two, weaving it in and out. Eventually, it felt stable enough to tie off in a knot. She held up the hook, showing off the new product. Truthfully, it was wobbly, and nothing like that which she remembered, but she smiled regardless.

Next, she picked up the pole and laid it in her lap so she could handle the line. She then tied the line to the hook as tightly as she could, giving a quick, silent prayer to Laviku that it would hold.

"I can hold." She offered, standing and dusting off her pants. "But you can...uh, you can swim and make the fish run? Out of their homes, you see?" Fish often hid in cooler, darker places during the day, and while she had never tried such a technique, she could only imagine it would make everything easier.

Aladari turned about on her feet until she spotted the slowly drying worm. She swooped down and scooped it up, watching it wriggle in her fingers curiously. Slowly, she began to pierce it with the point of the hook, cringing as she felt its exterior crack and give way. The guts of the worm squirted out, splattering her cheek and causing a quick squeal.

"Is it dangerous?" She asked, a look of horror on her face. "It has squirted me...with...its poison?"

OOC :
This is an idea of what the hook will look like. They made it a bit large, so it won't be quite this scale, but it'll give you an idea. Image

Also, feel free to assume that Aladari will go on to put her line out for your post so we can keep this going.
