The Night We Met

Postby Taurina on June 24th, 2017, 11:51 pm

Feeling emotions through the bond was like standing in an ocean and letting the waves wash over her. Some waves were bigger than others, having the strength to force the Eth down to her knees. Others broke over her easily, dying before they ever really began. Taurina felt Alekxandra’s relief as it came in like a flood before it ebbed away and in swept a faint bout of skepticism. That was not nearly as well felt and Taurina just shrugged it off. She understood. Not all were like her in their beliefs on how the gods operated, but she hoped with time Alekxandra was able to come around. After she was able to heal.

From the wave of bitter resentment that came in next, Taurina could tell there was a wound that had been left open where the gods were concerned. The Ethaefal knew her bondmate had every right to be bitter on this matter. Morwen had hurt everybody and the land they walked on by not spreading winter, but it was her own people that Morwen had hurt most. Because of her absence, so many had met their deaths. So much pain and hurt had been caused. Many were to blame for that, but perhaps it was the goddess of winter alone with whom all of the blame belonged. She had let it happen, been passive despite her people’s plight. The wound that had been caused by the goddess’ betrayal might never fully heal. For Alekxandra’s sake, Taurina hoped that one day it might. Unforgiveness, if harbored long enough, would become like a stain on the soul. It would become a place of darkness where no light would ever be able to shine again. The Ethaefal did not want that for her bondmate. She felt that she had enough darkness within her already for the two of them.

When bitterness broke and a pleasant calm rolled in, Alekxandra confirmed what the Eth had suspected, she did not want to break the bond either. Taurina smiled with something that caused her eyes to sparkle. It was settled then, the bond would remain.

A feeling of nervousness twisted in the Eth’s core, but she staid smiling despite it. They would figure everything out. With time, they would figure each other out and the bond that had formed between them. All the details and questions that fluttered about in Taurina’s stomach like butterflies would fall into place and be answered as they needed to be. There was no rush. Despite the nerves and the fear of change, there was no rush. Alekxandra’s crooked grin was enough to assure the Eth of this. She felt her own calm wash over her with a pleasantness she would not soon forget. This bond meant so many things, but the thing that stuck out most was that (until one of them was gone from this life) neither of them would ever be alone again. They would feel everything the other did, more and more as time progressed. The Eth would not be able to hide from her bondmate.

Taurina knew she had not been alone before tonight. Not since before she joined the Stormbloods had she been alone. She had felt alone since then, but it had been self created loneliness. A way of self punishment. It had not been right or kind. Not to herself or to the family she had emotionally pushed away. They had all been there for her many times before and she had for too long last season put up a block so that they could not get in to her. It had been wrong, she knew that now. She was learning how to get back to how things were suppose to be, better than how they had been even before. Maybe having Alekxandra now, someone who she could not fully hide from, would help her get there. Maybe this bond was exactly what she needed to become how she wished herself to be.

“Oh well, I guess I’ve gotten used to them,” Taurina admitted after a bit of a stifled giggle at her bondmate’s war on the fly, “I’ve never been to a place that did not have any. Must have been nice…”

Taurina did not say anything more, not wanting to remind Alekxandra of home for fear of bringing up Morwen again. That bitterness that had come was not something Taurina was keen to feel again. They had other things to focus their attentions on. Like what was next now that they had decided to keep the bond? Taurina already had an idea though. Alekxandra was making sure that she was sure about wanting this, but the Eth had already made up her mind. Gnosis mark or no, this was something that was going to remain. They would just have to figure it out.

“I will tell me ankal and if he decides others should know than we will tell them,” Taurina decided aloud, “I don’t trust many, but I do trust him.”

The Eth sighed softly, looking at the red head who stood across from her. There had been worry and stress in her last statement. Taurina did not fully understand it, but she understood enough. This situation had the potential to bring harm to the Eth, her family, and the Kelvic. It was a risk, but Taurina had decided on this night of bravery that it was one worth taking.

“I'm sure. Anyway, I do think we should head back to the city now, it is not safe to stay out here long,” Taurina pointed out before she went about and gathered up her objects that she had left on the grasses, “do you have a home? Somewhere you are needing to get back to?”

Taurina had gathered her waterskin and journal by this point, even gone as far as to check that the charcoal had been replaced between the middle pages. She paused her task however so that she could look back to Alekxandra. The look on her face was like some revelation had just hit her. Like she had just realized what she was suppose to be asking instead.

“Do you want to come home with me?” Taurina asked slowly, seriously, before adding, “I mean.. we’ll have to run it by Azmere, but.. I guess in a way.. you are part of my family now. At least, I think that is how this works. That is how it feels like it is suppose to work… Is that how this works?”

The Night We Met

For the first time in a long time, Alek thought of Avanthal without a lingering pang of hurt or regret. She missed her home deeply, but the idea that the snow was one major reason she had never dealt with such insects was ironic. There was the slightest smirk that crossed her lips as she hummed in agreement with Taurina’s comment. “Well if eternal winter is your type of place then it is rather nice.” There had been a time in her life where the never-ending winter had made her an outcast. Now it seemed the bugs caused a similar reaction… though nowhere nearly as intensely.

It was only the mention of her ‘ankal’ that brought the Kelvic back into the present. “I have no idea what an ankal is, but if you feel like you can trust him…” She let the sentence fall off. Coming to truly trust anyone after such a long time was a difficult thing. The Eth trusted this man, but Alek found it hard to believe her. The she-wolf had let fear run her life for so long that simple words were hard to follow—except that she didn’t really have much choice. Pulling a deep breath into her lungs, she let her head bob in agreement as her throat felt rather tight.

At the thought of a home, the first image that popped into her mind was the stubborn bull probably dozing next to her cart. It was a relief actually because at one time the question would have overloaded her mind with images of her family. Taurina however suddenly seemed to realize that she might not actually have a place to go. While the sentiment was technically true—living on the outskirts of a city didn’t really lend itself to a place—the Kelvic suddenly didn’t feel as if it was an exile sentence anymore. One had to work their way into society and that often started on the outside.

The redhead gave her bondmate a small but genuine smile and shook her head slightly. “I can’t honestly say if that’s how it should go. I think… we decide that for ourselves. The things that we are comfortable with and the things we need to grow into.” Alek gave a small shrug and cocked her head to the side. “Though I do truly appreciate the offer, perhaps it’s best if we don’t spring my entrance on… Azmere? I take it he’s your Ankal?” The Kelvic twitched her nose as she suppressed the nerves that reared in her stomach at the idea of showing off her gnosis to someone else.

“I’ll be fine for now. I’ve got a stubborn ox to return to, though he’s probably not even noticed my absence.” Alek chuckled and shook her head. She was going to have to build some kind of relationship with that beast now instead of just putting up with its presence. “But I like the sound of that. Family that is…” A lonely existence had been eating at her heart longed for a place to belong again. It wouldn’t be easy, but nothing worth doing ever was. A metaphor her mother had particularly loved. Alek had a feeling it was going to hold true now more than ever. As Alek turned back towards the city however she felt awkward. As if this night would fade into obscurity—a dream that would end once they separated.

And of course, she knew it wasn’t true. She would be able to find Taurina within the city now easily, between her scent and the bond. Perhaps it was more that in the morning things would become glaringly different—and that might be true. The light of Syna might give them reasons to doubt or rethink things, but the Kelvic felt the need for optimism. Anything less would mean she’d had to lose a part of herself now connected to the woman in front of her, and that was unacceptable. “I will see you soon.”

It was vague, but a promise nonetheless. She lingered for a moment before allowing the shift to take over, returning her to the form she had originally stumbled over the Eth in. Her nose hung in the air for a moment, scenting for anything unusual as her ears twitched in all directions. The horse—Starfire—would have likely picked up on anything dangerous before she had the chance to, but if Alek had learned one thing it was caution was never a waste of time. Satisfied they were still alone, the wolf gave a small whine before she pulled herself away to return towards the city. Reluctance tugged at her heart, but her steps were surer than ever before. Alek had something to look forward to.

The Night We Met

Postby Taurina on July 2nd, 2017, 4:38 am

There was a slight chuckle before Taurina shook her head. No, eternal winter was most definitely not her ideal place to live. She enjoyed it in small amounts, tiring of it long before a regular season of winter came to conclusion, but to forever have to put up with icy cold that soaked through everything sounded most miserable. She admired that Alekxandra had lived there and put up with it, called it home.. Taurina sighed, her chuckle fading away. No longer was it a home Alekxandra could call her own. It had been stolen from her, just like the safety most normal beings possessed had been stole from her.

“I do..” Taurina assured with a shadow of a smile, glad the subject of Avanthal had not lingered on, “I trust him.”

The Ethaefal was plunged into thoughts of her ankal after that. The story between them liked to play itself before her memory from beginning to where they were now as frequently as she would allow it. The day they met at the Lilacwind pavilion and it all began was always first. They forged a connection there formed from the scars of the past they both carried. It had been nothing more than an ankal taking another soul in under the wing of his pavilion at first, but now.. now it felt like there was more to it than that. Taurina dared to hope that there was more.

“Alright, if you are sure. At our own pace sounds like a good idea.. easier for everyone involved,” Taurina spoke gently, but even as her words came she felt a tightness in her chest loosen that she had previously been unaware of, “And yes, Azmere is my ankal.”

Taurina said his name with a certain amount of affection that she tried to cover up. Ever since her nightmare nights before things had been different. So much different than they had been after her return from the valley, in a good way. It was.. confusing. That was a good word for it. Taurina sighed and let her thoughts drift away. She had another to think of now. The red head who turned from human to wolf and back again, her bondmate. It was going to take some getting used to, this new relationship. The Ethaefal found some relief that they could take their time and go at it their own pace. She had been willing to take Alekxandra back to the pavilion, but knowing they had some time to ease into that gave her peace of mind. Not everything had to come as suddenly as the bond itself had.

“Family is.. everything,” the Eth spoke with a sort of distant affection in her voice and looked towards the pavilion whose occupants had taken her in and made her their own two seasons before, “I’m new to it really, but that is a story that can wait for another time. There are many stories for other times.”

Another shadow of a smile was given as Taurina turned back towards her bondmate. Words crossed over Alekxandra’s lips that the Eth nodded in reply to. They were parting for now, but a promise had been given and so they would meet again. Soon. Taurina found herself looking forward to it and worrying about how it would come about. Hopefully with less tripping. Her eyes sparkled as she laughed internally at her own thought. She tried not to worry too much. They had the bond between them and for some reason she felt Alekxandra would never be too far away. When they were ready and had gotten over the shock of the night, then they would meet again. At least, that was Taurina’s hope.

“I look forward to it,” Taurina spoke soft and genuine, her own promise of sorts. A promise that what she had decided tonight was not going to change. “Goodnight Alekxandra.”

The Kelvic had shifted into her other form and the Eth watched with curiousness as her bondmate adjusted to her second body. She did not know what the girl was doing, but now that she was aware of the animal’s second form there was no fear of what the canine might do. Taurina knew no harm would come to her or Starfire from Alek, so she was at peace watching her as she did. She even dared to move, picking up the last of her things after watching Alek trot off. With a soft smile, Taurina went to her stallion and piled her things in the large bags attached to the yvas. He was nervous, his muscles tense, and ears twitching. Taurina sighed and worked to distract him, calm him.

“Hey, hey,” she murmured against his cheek as she scratched along his jaw and played with his forelock, “you are okay. We are okay.”

She spoke to him in soft words of pavi until she thought him calmer. It likely was not her actions, but the absence of the predator that calmed him in the end, but she liked to think that she at least helped in bringing him peace. The Ethaefal pressed a kiss against his cheek before she went back to his back and mounted up.

“Already zulkina, let’s go home,” Taurina encouraged softly with uneven pressure applied to his sides through the muscles of her legs.

The stallion reacted and the pair made their way home. The Ethaefal replaying the events of the night over and over in her head all the way there, unsure if what had happened was actually real or not. Could it have all just been a very strange dream?
