It was mid afternoon, and so far the Tidepool bar had been fairly quiet. There had been a few people in and out, catching their fish while sat outside and coming in for a brief drink, though they hadn’t been people Anibesa had had the pleasure of meeting yet, and they hadn’t wanted to talk much, other than a quick mention as to how odd the sounds from the rainforest were, or how unsettling the lights in the sky were.
The sounds and lights had been going on throughout the night at seemingly random intervals for the past few days, and as Anibesa usually stayed awake through most of the night, she’d been able to watch the lights and try to work out where they’d came from, though she hadn’t found anything of any sort of use or even thought of a real way she could investigate what was going on.

Sighing, she glanced out over the bar seeing a mug abandoned on one of the benches that she hadn’t collected yet. Quickly, she walked over to it and picked it up between her thumb and forefinger before carrying back to the bar, and placing it into a moderately sized bowl of water that was used to clean the glasses. Not bothering with a cloth she ran her fingers over the mug, swishing the water over it until it was clean from the sticky alcohol it had once contained.
Smiling she retrieved it from the water, placing it upside down to drain and dry itself in the heat, ready to be used again soon.

Sighing she glanced around again, before poking her head into the kitchen, to see Stu and she smiled slightly, returning back to the bar and taking hold of a cloth, dipping it into the water, using it to wipe down the bar, clearing away the few remnants of alcohol left there, before she leant on it, waiting for a new visitor or two.

”Maybe the lights in the sky scared them off…” she mumbled to herself, exhaling sharply as she wondered what could be causing the lights and noises.

’Maybe it’s normal…’ she mumbled to herself. ’Maybe it all happens every so often, but nobody has been here long enough to have learnt that?’ she thought to herself, adjusting her position again and glancing around once more. ’Or maybe it’s one of the gods? Maybe one is angry that we aren’t thanking them? Or maybe they’re a forgotten god? One we don’t know about?’

The thoughts rattled around her head as she hoped for a customer to the bar, someone she could talk to about what was happening, and have them tell her that her ideas were stupid.

Theories and Cocktails

Postby Ashka on December 16th, 2017, 5:03 pm

The lights in the sky had kept Ashka awake the night before, braced and wary and restless against it being something more than just light and noise. Chaya hadn't seemed bothered by it at all, but slept soundly on the other side of the tent. Ashka yawned again and gathered up spindle and fibre. Borrowng a seat somewhere would let her spin a longer thread at a time and the company of others - more than just Chaya's company - would help to keep her awake. She pushed the canoe down to the edge of the sea, as it was faster and eaiser to paddle along the shore and put in wherever there were people than it was to trudge along the edge of the jungle looking for glimpses between the trees.

Caya jumped in to take her usual place in the bow, Ashka pulled herself up into the stern, picked up her paddle and sent the canoe swinging round towards the Tidepool. The rise and fall of the waves sliding under her canoe felt like coming home, and she grinned relishing the sensation as she paddled. She really ought to take the canoe out more often, she decided, as the muscles she hadn't used recently enough began to ache with the work. Finally, they drew up at the tie-downs surrounding the rancho bar and tethered the canoe to one of them before heading up to the bar itself.

The bartender was leaning on the bar as Ashka and Chaya headed that way. Ashka took one of the stools. "What have you got today that's light?" she asked, her grin still present from being out on the water. "And not the sort of light that's been in the sky recently either. That's been the weirdest thing, and noisy too. I don't suppose you have any ideas or guesses as to what's causing it?"

Anibesa couldn’t help but grin widely as the two girls entered the bar, waving a hand to the two as a greeting as she watched as one took a seat on a stool at the bar and Anibesa straightened herself up so she was stood properly rather than supporting herself on the bar.

Before she could ask what they wanted to drink she heard one of the two speak, asking what they had that was light, before turning the conversation to the lights in the sky, and Ani chortled slightly first, opting to start with the drinks.

”Well, I’d say the lightest drink we have is the Sunshine and Sandcastles.” she exclaimed cheerily, using every chance to flash a trustworthy and warm smile to the girls, before continuing to speak. ”It’s a wine punch that doesn’t have too much of a kick. The type of drink to refresh without having to worry about any consequences. Or we wine, ale, or a tea with something in that I can make with a little less kick if you’d prefer any of those?” Ani let a cheerful laugh out as she finished talking about the lighter drink choices. She didn't know quite how light the girl wanted the drink to be, but she hoped that at least one of the options she offer was what the girls were looking for.

”As for the skies, it is quite strange isn’t it? Saw it the other day for the first time and wasn’t too sure what to make of it. With the noises too it’s even more odd. If it was just the lights or just the sounds, it might be a bit less unsettling, but that can’t be proved. All I can think of is magic? Maybe even something that one of the gods has done? No idea who could have done that though...” she cocked her head as she spoke to the girl. ”How about you? What do you think could be going on?”

As she questioned the girl, Anibesa rested forearm on the bar, attentively watching the girl and waiting for the girls response to see if she had any ideas that were convincing.to her. Anibesa just wanted something that made sense and could be used to explain what was happening.

"Refreshing without consequences sounds about right," Ashka said, referring the Sunshine and Sandcastles that the bartender mentined. "I need to look after Chaya, and that takes a clear head."

Her little sister turned indignantly on Ashka, arms folded. "You do not! I'm not that little!" Ashka ruffled her sister's in response, then turned back to answer the bartender's question about the lights.

"The first time I saw them," she began slowly, "I wondered if maybe there was a mad reimancer wandering around the jungle messing about with fire and lightning. Lightning comes with thunder, you see, and there was the noise to explain as well as the light. But it seems to be too big for just a mage, even a mad one."

Her hands sought the comfort of the familiar spindle, and the leader thread was already in place, so she set it spinning with an absent flick of her fingers. She thought better with her hands occupied anyway. "And then I got to thinking again. I once heard a tale from someone in another pod - I thought it was just a tall tale, because it didn't sound real - about coloured lights over Avanthal. This isn't Avanthal obviously, but we do have lights....at the moment." Fibre slid through her fingers as the spindle dropped lower and lower, spinning the thread together, spinning her thoughts together.

"I thought, it's winter now. And what if..." she stopped herself, swallowed, and tried to be more coherant than rambling. "Avanthal is where Morwen lives, right. Goddess of winter. Except, last winter, she went missing. There wasn't any winter because of it. And I thought, gods are the only thing bigger than mages. If the lights and noises are too big for a mage... what if Morwen got stuck or trapped near here, and now it's winter she's got power again and is sending out signals, or warnings - or something," she finished in a rush.

Issie has been walking around trying to get a kink out of his leg from his last trip into the forest. His last adventure wasn't much better than anyone before, he never really found much, yet did find foot prints of a creature Issie has never seen. He did still not know what is still in this place. Still though that was strange especially on how close it actually was. He would investigate later, all he wanted right now was a drink, and he saw Tidepool bar as he heard someone begin to talk about 'MORWEN!?'. Issie felt a sense of urgency as he closed into the bar as the woman finished as he said, "Excuse me, did you just say Morwen?" Issie was informed of Avanthal's history, as his father has taught him of who Morwen is and how she is the ruler of Avanthal, but here, why?

Issie said as he sat down, "I haven't been informed, why are you speaking of Morwen?". His curiosity has gotten the best of him as he looks towards the woman in anticipation for her answer.
Nature, the mother of all who live. The sun, the giver of light and warmth. The moon, the holder of the night and protector from the dark.

Theories and Cocktails

Postby Ixtli on December 19th, 2017, 7:27 am

Ixtli had been walking along the beach for a bell already looking for objects brought by the waves onto the shore that she could use to improve her encampment, but the heat of the mid-afternoon sun combined with a lack of sleep from last night's strange lights and thunder had wearied her determination. Thus the Myrian wandered along the waterside barefeet, with no particular goal, glancing occasionally at her surroundings in case she found some interesting or useful item. So far her loot comprised a nice and large scallop-shell, various pieces of driftwood and something that looked like it could had been a small statue at some point before time and seawater smoothed its angles so much it was now just an oddly-shaped stone, large as a fist. Hanging loosely on her shoulder, the backpack that hold all those treasures rocked with the pace of the Myrian's steps as she tread her way under the welcome shade of palm trees.

Soon a building caught her sight, a large construction that joined three bungalows over the turquoise water and from which a delicious smell arose, tickling Ixtli's nose pleasantly and drawing her attention on her now rumbling stomach. She realised she could use a break and probably a snack as well, despite how poorly successful had been her scavenging. Maybe she would start again later, when the temperature would be milder and her body more rested.

Just as she was about to postpone her day's foraging she noticed some fallen coconuts around the palm trees; the shape, size and fibrous husk around made them easy to recognise. Ixtli checked a few fruits eagerly, hoping for a last bounty, but most seemed to be past their ripeness: the outer shell was mushy under the touch and the coloring seemed odd, or they had started to sprout already. After a few chimes of examination the Myrian woman found one that seemed right for taking home, its husk light green and overall unblemished. Ixtli smiled to herself as she inspected the nut before shoving it in the backpack with the rest and heading for the Tidepool Bar. If this coconut was as delicious as it looked, the last bell had not been wasted.

She stepped onto the pier and made her way to the seating area, inspecting the whole structure with a curious eye. Having been in Syka for a few days only it was the first time she visited this place, and she appreciated the skills and effort that had visibly been put to its construction. Ixtli had a thought for her own humble home, and felt it would need some improvement in the future.

The place was mostly empty apart from a gathering she noticed at the bar, so the Myrian decided to to sit at the bar as well, although she kept to a side corner. She dropped her backpack at her feet and cocked her head at the group, catching a few words from their conversation. It seemed they were speaking about the strange phenomenon that lit up the jungle skies these past nights, about gods and goddesses... Morwen, goddess of Winter, who would be trapped in the jungle near Syka? Ixtli had never heard of her before but listened with interest as she waited the girl behind the bar to attend her.

Anibesa nodded at the first woman's order and chuckled slightly at the younger girls reaction.
”You say that now, but when you’re older you’ll wish you were young again and that someone else was looking after you again. I know I definitely do!” she grinned as she spoke to the younger girl and let out a warm chuckle, before continuing to listen to the girls speaking while starting to make the wine punch, mixing the wine with a sweet juice that Stu had made from some of the citrus fruits he’d gathered from the jungle. Anibesa made a mental note that she’d have to ask Stu how he brewed his drinks and see if she could make a few herself.

As she continued to make the womans drink she noticed her fiddling with something in her hands and briefly peered over the bar to see that it was a spindle, and Anibesa raised an eyebrow slightly, though hopefully not noticeably, as she wondered what the woman did for a living in the settlement, and whether she was somebody she could speak to about various things that she’d probably need eventually.

Once the citrus juice and wine had been mixed, Anibesa added a garnish of a few cut pieces of dried fruits that had been kept behind the bar, before she handed it to the woman, listening carefully to her words as she spoke, nodding in agreement as the woman.

She had never heard much of Avanthal, but if the lights in the skies over Syka were similar to the lights there, then Anibesa was open to that idea.

”Never been to Avanthal, but if these lights are similar then that’s more likely that anything I could have thought of. If she’s asking for help, should we find a way to try and help her? Though that wouldn’t explain the rumbling, would it?” she started, before noticing a man enter, questioning what they were speaking of and Anibesa smiled at the man.

”Aye, welcome to the Tidepool Bar. We were trying to figure out what might be causing the lights in the sky. Never seen anything like them, but Avanthal has something similar. Have you seen the lights yet?” she said, calmly catching the man up to the conversation and asking him about the lights to try and see whether he knew what had been happening in Syka as of late. ”Can I get you anything to drink today?” she offered to the man, standing straight before she leant forwards slightly and place her hands on the bar, her red hair messily hanging around her shoulders.

As the third person entered the bar, Anibesa nodded a warm greeting to her, watching as she took a seat at the bar but towards the corner and waiting until she had got comfortable, before Anibesa left the initial group to allow them to speak amongst themselves and made her way along the bar to the woman, her shoulders hunched forwards as she lightly leant on to the bar again, a welcoming glint in her eyes.

”Welcome. What can I get you to drink?” she offered with a warm smile, hoping to put the woman at ease.
Unlike the others, she had chosen to distance herself slightly, and Anibesa wasn’t sure why, though Anibesa decided that she would find out why and possibly try to encourage the woman to join the conversation. ”Not sure if you caught much of what we were saying there, but have you seen the lights yet? What do you make of them?” she asked the woman, smiling warmly still before she before raised a hand to her face to brush her hair behind her ears and shoulders to keep it out of her face.

Theories and Cocktails

Postby Aladon on December 21st, 2017, 7:56 am

It has been a long back breaking ordeal getting his land ready for the construction of his new home Everything on the Isur's body hurt, and he needed something to numb the pain from the stress of the day. Something hard, room tempeture, and overly alcoholic would be wonderful as he walked across the dock to the the bar. As he walked down the wood planks of the dock, Aladon wondered of they should have put some railings on each side of the dock, so the drunkards would have something to catch onto before tumbling into the salty water. The Isur started to laugh to himself because he could see himself forty years from now just floating face down in the water, and his grave would stay 'It was worth it.'

The blacksmith had many strange ideas float through his brain from time to time. He was learned in Riverfall that a person needs to take life as it comes, and it will never surprise him. However, strange things have been happening around his new home lately like strange colorful lights in the sky, or the noises that followed shortly after. It was beautiful and unnerving at the same time. However, unless the world started on fire all at once he still had a forge to run. The nails and fasteners won't get made by himself.

Walking into the area of the bar, he noticed that it wasn't a in closed building like the taverns in Riverfall. It was open air, so a person can just sit anywhere and still be exposed by the light of Syna. It was a perfect place to spend the day boozing it up till the bar closed. Over the years, the blacksmith learned that he needed to lighten up because even if he can live to two hundred years. He still wants to make the most of his life. Walking up to the counter, he saw a pretty red haired woman with freckles behind the bar. Her hair was slightly disheveled probably by the sea breeze. He always had a thing for red heads maybe it was his time that he spent in Wind Reach. The red headed bartender asked a woman with a braid mohawk if she had any theories on the strange lights and noises in the sky, so he decided to wait and listen before he took his order. He waited till she served the rest of the patrons in the bar before he decided to walk over to the counter. The Isur tipped his broad rimmed hat to the woman and said with a smile, “Fine day for brew isn't it? May I have a pitcher of...?”

The Isur spot a drink that made him chuckle out loud, “...well I have to test it now!“

Aladon wasn't sure why he was so cheerful. Today was a grueling day of hacking, slashing, and pulling any vegetation that got in his way. He was heckled by monkeys for a good bell. Those little petchers kept trying to steal the rations from his backpack. Not to mention the encounter with a ten foot snake. At that point, he just turned around and took a break on the beach. At the time, he wasn't the mood to battle a giant snake over a stump. He was just happy to work on something that he could call his own. He never had land before, and even with the gang of monkeys and the snake. It was still his little piece of Mizahar. It made him feel good just knowing it.

The Isur said the bartender with a smile, “A pitcher of Not Quite Isurian Ale and three mugs.”

Theories and Cocktails

Postby Ashka on December 23rd, 2017, 4:10 pm

A young man burst in on the tail of her speech and demanded to know why she was talking about Morwen, and Ashka looked instinctively and protectively to see where Chaya was. Chaya was behind her, trailing her fingers back and forth along the boards of the counter. "It's winter now," she told the man, keeping her eyes on the length of thread she had just made and was now winding onto her spindle. "That's Morwen's season, so I - wondered - if she had anything to do with the strange lights and sounds. Do you know if its true that there are lights over Avanthal like the lights here?" More people arrived, none of whom she knew, and she flashed a grateful smile to the bartender as the woman caught the newcomers up with the conversation.

Once she had her thread secured on her spindle, freeing her hands, she dug in her pocket for mizas, sifted through the coppers until she found the silver she owed the Tidepool for her drink, and slid it across the bar. "Thank you," she said. The red-head's look of curiousity drew a smile onto Ashka's face, and she turned so that she was sitting side-on to the bar. That both took her into position to defend herself and Chaya if the explosive man turned nasty, and meant she could more easily include the friendlier arrivals - both the woman at a seperate table, and the small laughing man at the bar-counter - in the conversation. "I don't think we've met before," she said, looking from one new face to another. "I'm Ashka, the local weaver, and this is my sister, Chaya. Have you been here long? I've been here since summer, and the lights are new this season. Do you have any good theories about why they might be happening?"

Theories and Cocktails

Postby Ixtli on December 27th, 2017, 8:12 am

The redhead bartender came to enquire about her choice of drink and Ixtli nodded a greeting in her direction, but as she answered she kept an eye on the loud-spoken man who had irrupted in the middle of the bar. He talked fast, and in a tone too authoritarian for Ixtli's taste, but since he was not addressing here nor seemed threatening, she just ignored him. "Thank you. I'll have a bite to eat, and something refreshing," she answered the redhead instead. "Maybe one of your iced teas?"

She glanced aside to have a brief look at a newly arrived man; he was surprisingly short, at least a lot more than the men the Myrian was used to see, and pale as well for a settler of this tropical place. She found herself wondering what could have brought him to the deadly jungles of Falyndar. But she only watched him a tick for the bartender's words drew her attention back quickly.

"Oh, the lights? Yes, I've seen them. Like a storm without rain, at least that's what they look like to me. I would say there's some kind of magic involved in this... Maybe even one of the gods, like you are saying – she made a gesture towards the girls at the bar – but I've never heard of one called Morwen. Even less of her city and its lights." She shrugged. "The gods and goddesses walk with us more often than we think. That's what my grandmother used to say. Maybe that's what it is."

The young girl sitting at the bar then spoke and introduced herself, including both Ixtli and the two men in the conversation. Ashka the weaver and her sister Chaya; they were the ones who had mentionned the winter Goddess. Ixtli nodded as to return a greeting and spoke when her turn came, shifting in her seat to see all the people around the bar.

"I'm Ixtli. I'll be working as a butcher and probably a hunter as well. I've only landed here a few days ago, but I've lived in Falyndar almost all my life and I can tell you I've never seen anything like those lights and this thunder anywhere." She paused briefly, pondering on some sort of theory that could help explain the phenomenon. "There has to be magic involved there in some way. If not from the gods, then... Maybe some wild Djed is trapped out there and causing the strange flashes. Maybe it's affecting the rainforest and the sky. Nobody really knows all that the jungles can hide."
