32nd Summer 509

Merevaika squirmed in the shirt she had been forced into. It was tighter than she was used to, hugging to the curves that had started to appear. It was sleeveless too, her windmarks trailing down her arm in clear view. "Stay still," her mother urged, snatching up another handful of her hair. The sharp movement stung, Merevaika blinking away balls of salty water. While Danika didn't mean to be rough, she had to tug Merevaika's wild and unruly hair, first attacking it with a brush to loosen the knots, then wrapping it sharply into a hairstyle. At first, the girl had protested, but eventually, her mother had beaten her. Now she was forced through this process just to see her aunt and whoever was in that pavilion.

There was another tug, then Merevaika could feel something slip by her skin, cold and metallic. "Done," her mother smiled, finally letting her get up, "What do you think?" Despite her annoyance at having it done, the girl peered into the mirror, curious. Like in the traditional style, it was all wrapped in strange knots and braids, a complex nonsense she didn't believe in. Before her mother could protest, Merevaika tugged down a little from the sides, pulling it to frame her face. That was better - without some hair in her eyes, she didn't feel right.

Getting up, her mother put the mirror away in her yvas bag, before turning back to Merevaika, who looked at her sharply. "Why couldn't I stay with the others, go hunting with the boys?" she demanded, face in a scowl. Danika didn't speak, turning away as she gathered the rest of the things. This stop was only for Merevaika - to make her look presentable. The girl knew that. She had to look nice, even if they were just visiting family. "None of the others had to go!"

"None of the others were available to go. They're too young to take alone out on the Sea of Grass, I believe," she sighed, eventually speaking. Merevaika didn't want to listen.

"Maya's eleven, she can ride. And To'res and Ywana are older than me!" she protested, but still made her way over to her horse, a young mare she rode until Eryunt became strong enough, large enough. The horse nickered, Merevaika scratching her along her neck before mounting. The horse began to move almost instantly, simply following the one in front. It was a while before her mother replied.

"Maya is still too young and To'res and Ywana are hunting. We've gone over this," came the reply, sighing once more.

"And can't I hunt? Or am I too young for that, but not too young to go with you?"

"Listen," Danika almost snapped, then returned to a calm tone, "I wanted you to come with me. You have a cousin, remember? I just thought it would be important for you to get to know her, a little. I just wanted to see my sister, okay?"

Merevaika didn't reply, clicking her tongue to speed the horse she rode up. She moved next to her mother, then further, fighting a smile. Danika saw the attempt to overtake and nudged her own strider forward, leaning with the movement. The two raced across fields, wind swirling around them. She didn't forgive her, but the race was fun, and by the time they reached the other pavilion, Merevaika was smiling.

Then she realised where she was and the smile disappeared. Reluctantly, she dismounted, hand trailing along the horse. Once she reached the yvas, she grabbed hold of it, leading the mare further into the tents. With the great horse with her, it wouldn't be too bad, would it?

"Merevaika, leave her here. She'll be fine." The order came from her mother, strict and clear and she did so, rolling her eyes as she moved into a position by Danika. "It won't be that bad, will it?" Merevaika thought it would be, but remained silent. There was no way this was going to be fun.

Caesi skipped out of the Pavilion out into the Summer heat. It was not overbearingly warm this day, but it was still warm enough to make her want to go to the lake to swim. With that thought in mind she gave a smirk, she had only to convince her Pa to take her to the lake, to practice “hunting.” It wasn't that she did not like to hunt, it was just that today she wanted to do something relaxing, something a bit more fun and carefree.

“Caesi!” Her mother yelled from a distance, motioning with her hands Hurry, Now. Caesi frowned, shrugging her shoulders and walked over to her mother. She seemed to be excited about something, her face was lit up, her eyes blazing with happiness.

“Whaaaat..?” Caesi drug the word out, her shoulders slumped not really interested in knowing what she was so excited about. She would much rather be at the lake swimming in the cool, crisp water.

Her mother's brows climbed up her face, her mouth puckering slightly in irritation, “My sister and her girl are not far from here.” She crossed her arms, letting Caesi know she would not hear any objections.

Caesi did not object but she did not know why she should care either, “And..?” Caesi said, raising a single brow, crossing her own arms. Her mother scowled at her, “And you will meet your cousin.” She replied simply, turning her back to the girl and walking off.

Caesi let out half sigh, half grow, stomping her foot in the ground. “I cant wait!” She yelled after her mother's retreating figure in sarcasm. Her mother did not waiver, she just signed in the air with her hand, Good , not letting the sarcasm bother her. Caesi sighed, the woman was hard to anger, but once you did, it was as if fire flew from her eyes as she pinned you with her stare. That was when you knew shyke was about to get ugly.

Rolling her eyes she looked down at her baggy shirt and pants, running her hands through her loose waves. She gave a shrug as she was not dressed to be meeting someone, she was dressed to hunt. Casting a glance in the direction her Pa was in she nibbled her lip. It was doubtful he would be able to get her out of this one. Her mother seemed determined for her to meet her Cousin, so Pa would not tempt his life like that. Growling again she stomped after her mother, mumbling to herself about how life was so unfair.

Once she reached her mom, she had her hand above her eyes to block out the sun, staring off in the distance. Caesi crossed her arms, tilting her hip out, as she glared at the distance. Two riders appeared after a few moments, one older and one younger. Cerium bounced on her heels in contained excitement, “My sister..” Cerium paused for a moment, “...I have missed her so.” She finished her sentence looking as if she was fighting back tears of happiness. Caesi frowned, she was meeting her Aunt and her Cousin. The more the merry.. Caesi thought, rolling her eyes and still glaring at the two figures who were closer now.

Her mother could not contain herself any longer, as she ran out to meet her sister. It was as if she could not wait the few seconds for her sister to come to her. Sighing Caesi stayed put, with her arms still crossed, fantasizing about the lake and how nice it would be to be there now. Floating on my back in the water.. Caesi thought with a sigh. She stayed put, waiting for her mother, aunt, and cousin to come towards her with the whole introduction scenario, then she would sneak off to the lake to swim.

Prank Wars

Postby Merevaika on April 27th, 2016, 6:52 pm

Her aunt ran over to meet them, the sisters launching into an excited conversation. Merevaika crossed her arms, doing her best to appear annoyed. Eventually, the woman looked at her niece, enveloping her in a tight embrace before letting her stumble back. "You've grown so much!" she exclaimed, Merevaika rolling her eyes and striding back forward. The sooner this was over and done with, the better.

The sisters followed her, stopping beside her cousin. Merevaika scowled, showing instant distaste already. She was so.. Young, small. A little kid. Great. She had thought that this at least got her away from all her younger siblings. But this girl wasn't much better. Merevaika guessed she couldn't even ride a horse or draw a bow. As for hunting? Ha! If this girl could shoot down a hare, Merevaika would eat her hat. Not that she had one, but it was a saying she had picked up from the non-Drykas they sometimes guided. Just thinking it made Merevaika feel more important, more knowledgeable. This kid was nothing more than that - a kid.

Her mother bent down a little, looking upon her niece with a wide smile. "So you must be Caesi? The last time I saw you, you were a tiny baby! How quickly these years fly!" she laughed, looking at her sister with a knowing grin, "This here is your cousin Merevaika. She may seem angry now-" At this, Merevaika scowled even more, rolling her eyes. "-But she doesn't bite. Not really." Her mother laughed again, winking at the girl, then moved to her sister's side. "Have fun!"

Merevaika stared angrily at her mother until the two adults left, leaving the two girls in silence. Merevaika glared at the girl, warning her not to speak unless spoken to. Sensing the annoyance of the girl, Caesi, with her arms crossed and a mind on something else, Merevaika spoke, firm. "Hey, I don't want to hang out with little kids in my spare time. What even is there to do around her? Hunting dogs, so I can hunt? What sort of horses do you have?" Merevaika tried her best to seem disinterested, annoyed, but part of her was actually interested in weighing up this pavilion. She supposed it came from her father, who would always consider what a stranger's pavilion had to offer. Who always wanted to find out what sort of pavilion they were and what sort of things they had. Part of it had embedded in the girl, and now she wanted to judge this pavilion.

occI have an idea for a prank, but in the night. So we can skip straight to that, or have some fun before? Your call

She was left, alone, with this Merevaika. Great, more time wasted that she could be out in the plains hunting. Her cousin Merevaika did not seem too pleased either by being left, so that almost made her smile. Knowing that someone was as frustrated as she was at this whole situation. She watched the women leave, chattering among themselves like two hens. Caesi rolled her eyes at the two women, she was not particularly looking forward to all this. She wanted to go out on the plains, swim, hunt, something fun. Not be stuck here with her cousin who was appearing more snooty by the second.

Caesi was not sure what to say, so instead she stared off at the plains, not really paying the older girl much attention. Her voice through, drew her away from her thoughts for a moment. Merevaika was questioning her about her Pavilion. Caesi frowned, shrugged her shoulders, “Go look for yourself if it is that much of an interest to you.” Caesi said frustrated by all the questions being thrown at her. “I have better things I wanna do.” Caesi turned to go back and get her bow and arrows, she would have to stay close, but at least it would be better then being subjected to this. “I gotta hunt.” She told the girl behind her shoulder, as she stalked off to get her things.

She had no Strider but that did not mean she did not know how to ride. She knew the very basics, as she was still learning. The same with hunting, she was still learning that too, so why not practice and be rid of her cousin since she did not want to be around Caesi anyways.

But going out alone would probably not be all that wise, so Caesi stopped mid-stride, “If you like to hunt, you can come.” Caesi told her cousin Merevaika, letting the offer hang between the two of them. If Merevaika agreed to hunt, they would gather what they needed and set off into the plains to do some hunting until the sun began to fall from the sky, near night time they would end the hunt and return.

OOCWe can skip straight to the prank if you'd like. I left it open for you to just make a mention of hunting, then when night comes let the pranking begin! :P

Prank Wars

Postby Merevaika on May 18th, 2016, 6:14 pm

Caesi seemed to question her interest, leaving the pavilion open for her to explore. Merevaika half snarled, not expecting this sort of response. Caesi clearly seemed to be very much like her, interested in her own things. This only seemed to infuriate Merevaika more, who didn't like the idea of wondering through an unknown pavilion alone, especially because she had never really been that interested in it all in the first place. Apart from the horses, but even they wouldn't be anything compared to Eryunt, waiting back home.

Her cousin moved away to hunt, Merevaika scoffing at the thought of this small thing on a horse with a bow in her hand. Like she would be able to take anything down with her strength. She doubted the girl could barely even use a bow, let alone well enough to hunt. Oh well, let her try. Merevaika was well aware that her doubtful nature was more from her annoyed attitude than anything else. That didn't stop her though.

Except when Caesi offered to let Merevaika come too, she decided that she would. Hunting was fun, no matter who it was with. Nodding, she followed after the girl, gathering her things. She tried to take charge, if Caesi would let her, but she didn't know this part of the Sea of Grass. She didn't know where to find a river or lake, or where the animals liked to go. That job would go to Caesi. Maybe from there, Merevaika would try and take over again, but she was satisfied with simply hunting.

As they hunted, Merevaika got frustrated at the younger girl, and, secretly, herself, for neither were the best at hunting. Merevaika was used to hunting with her father, or her older sister, who were both skilled and made the whole thing a lot easier. Even her brother, who was barely older than her, was good at it, making her role so much easier, although she liked to act as if it was all her doing. With someone just a little less skilled than her, the whole experience was painfully slow, and her annoyance from before didn't help much.

By the time Syna was setting, Merevaika's irritation had grown so much, she decided she needed something to lighten her mood. They turned back towards the tents in the distance, Merevaika scheming. Some sort of prank would work, on Caesi, because the look on the girl's face would be hilarious. She seemed the sort that would get really annoyed about it, from what she could tell. Then again, she didn't really know the girl.

First, however, she would sort out the mare she rode, and come up with the prank then. Leaving Caesi to do whatever she wanted, Merevaika led the mare around in slow circles cooling her down. Once she was no longer puffing and seemed more relaxed after the heavy riding, Merevaika pulled off the yvas, staring at the shadow of the horse created by the setting sun. It had distorted and looked more like an Ixam than anything. Merevaika smiled, then realised this was her prank. A little shadow puppet, just to scare her. And the Drykas had already decided of what.

Without Caesi seeing, she managed to collect the materials she needed, laying them before her. Then her mother called and quickly, they were stuffed in her backpack, waiting for her return. It was only late that night that Merevaika managed to sneak away from the sleeping figures. She rolled out the things again, taking the lump of grass and cloth and shaping it as best as she could into a head. Using the string, she bound it together, trying to get it to keep the shape. Feeling in the dark for the feathers, she dipped them in the honey, managing to stick them onto the head. They weren't the right colour or shape, not really, but in the dark, it wasn't like that would be noticeable. Finally, the iconic beak. Merevaika had been stuck on what to use, until she managed to sneak over to the river, where she had found two reasonably shaped stones, that, when attached to the head, somewhat resembled a beak. Once again, she hoped the fact it would only be a shadow would mean it didn't matter.

Securing it all together on a stick, she lit up a candle, securing the puppet in front of it. Then she crept back into the tent, knowing the shadow would be visible from where Caesi was sleeping. Shaking the girl awake, Merevaika tried to fake acting scared, mumbling and pointing towards the shadow through the tent. She had to be honest, it did look pretty good - she could tell it was a glassbeak, at least. Hopefully it would fool Caesi too.

Caesi was shocked that Merevaika actually agreed to come with her. She did not mind the girl's company, at first at least. However, as they went along hunting she kept trying to take charge. Caesi also kept trying to take the lead, which ended with them both despising the other and being more irrtated than they were in the beginning. The hunting went on like that and they were only able to bring back a couple of small squirrels as they girls squabbled among each other to really accomplish any hunting. Worse of all, Caesi still did not get to swim. She blamed Merevaika for this, giving the girl sour looks as they came back to the Pavilion at sunset.

Caesi was glad to be in her bed roll, the day ending and the time nearing for Merevaika to leave. The girl was stubborn, much like Caesi. Perhaps a little more hot headed then she was too, if that was even possible. They were family after all, so being similar made sense, but it made them grow irrtated at one another quicker.

The young girl snuggled down in her bed roll, closing her eyes and nearing sleep. She felt her body relaxing and shutting down, ready for rest, her mind traveling to the land of dreams. Before she could make it though, Merevaika woke her. Caesi growled and slung her arms down pulling the blanket off of her.

“What now!? Can you not just leave me alone you spoiled, rotten, stubborn girl!” Caesi growled loudly, jerking her head in the direction of Merevaika. She did not like to be woken from her sleep, it made her quite temperamental. Her eyes scanned the frightened look on the older girl's face, saw that her finger was pointing at something, and she was mumbling incoherently as her hand shook from fright. Anger retreated from Caesi, her eyes growing wide. A coldness crept inside her body, making a cold sweat form on her brow and goose-flesh appear on her skin. “W-what is it..” She said to Merevaika afriad to look in the direction.

Merevaika however seemed to frightened to explain, making her turn her head. She bit down on her lower lip, turning her head slowly in the direction the other girl was pointing. There was a shadow displayed through the tent, that appeared to be a Glassbeak. Caesi shot up from her bedroll screaming a shrill and death like scream that emitted through the Pavilion and quite possible could be heard through out the Sea of Grass. Tears streamed down her face as she screamed for her mother and father, warning the whole Pavilion of the Glassbeak that had approached on their small family.

Caesi's body began to shake and her breathing came out in rapid bursts. Her chest felt as if it was caving in on itself, the air thick that she would breath in seemed to give her no relief. Her whole body trembled as she grabbed at her chest, unable to breath or make any noise. Tears continued to stream down her face as she wheezed in and out from the horror of a Glassbeak outside her tent. It would tear her apart, peel the flesh from her bones, devour her small body and there would be nothing left. The horror like thoughts rolled through her mind, until she fainted from the panic attack that over took her body, unable to successfully breath made her black out.

Prank Wars

Postby Merevaika on June 23rd, 2016, 5:30 pm

It seemed that Merevaika's acting was a little too good. Or her puppet. Or both. Whatever it was, it had the desired effect, even more, perhaps. The girl seemed to erupt with fear, screaming, crying, shaking all over. Finally, the girl fainted, her breath having been reduced to rapid bursts. Petch. Merevaika had not expected this at all.

At once people were everywhere, stumbling over furs and bedrolls towards them. Merevaika panicked, shaking Caesi awaken her. Why did the girl have to overreact so much! Merevaika hadn't been expecting this. The coward of a girl! Coward! Now she was going to get Merevaika into trouble, and it would be all her fault!

Well, maybe some of the blame was hers, since she did make the glassbeak. But it was mostly Caesi's fault.

The glassbeak puppet! Merevaika cursed again under her breath that she hadn't thought to run out and hide it. Perhaps there was still time? With a pounding heart, she crawled towards the edge of the tent. Caesi's parents were there, but their attention was on gathering weapons and the girl, who lay unconscious on the ground. Perhaps they wouldn't notice?

With a sudden breath, Merevaika pulled up the edge of the canvas, rolled under onto the dust and dirt. The candle had flickered out, but the puppet still stood there, so unimpressive up close. A smile shifting to her face, Merevaika reached out to snatch it, but her hand met another.

Biting her tongue hard enough to taste the metallic blood, Merevaika threw her eyes upward, taking another sharp intake of breath. It was a woman, one of the women of the pavilion. Merevaika didn't know her, and didn't know her name, but the woman clung to a bow, staring her down. "It... it was... I didn't mean!" Merevaika stuttered out, but harshness came out with the noises she made, and her wrist was grabbed with a firm grasp. Merevaika snorted with anger, ripping the puppet from the ground and following the woman sharply.

They entered the pavilion again as other prepared to leave. Merevaika stared at them hard, head down yet strong with pride. Her mother's eyes flitted from the tight grasp at the wrist to the glassbeak puppet in her hand. Then she marched forward and slapped Merevaika across the head; not hard, but not lightly either.

"Glassbeaks are no joke! What you did was a very serious thing! The poor Caesi has fainted, and awoke half the pavilion in a state of incredible fear! Don't you understand the devastation they cause? The death, the danger?"

Merevaika hung her head with the embarrassment, managing to snap back. "It was just a joke for that annoying... that annoying... that annoying walahk!" she finally spat out, the shock of several. Immediately, she regretted it. Walahk was a strong word, but she was horseless. And she was angry and didn't care.

"Merevaika, we do not use that word, especially not about your cousin!" her mother sighed deeply, "That's it. No more hunting for you, not for this season, and we'll think about the next. You'll be on cleaning duty - both for us and for the horses. And you are not allowed to step out of the border of tents, unless your father or I give you direct permission, understand?"

Merevaika looked up, red with anger. She opened her mouth to let another loose word fly, but nothing came. She was beaten. And she would make Caesi pay. One of these days.

When Caesi came back to the world, escaping the darkness she was trapped in, Merevaika was no where to be seen. She rose up quickly in a panic, stuttering nonsense as words would not form. Her mother wrapped her arms around her, telling her how there was not a Glassbeak. Her mother explained that Merevaika made a puppet to frighten her and was currently being scolded. Caesi's heart seemed to calm down knowing this, then it started to beat rapidly once more.

“She fooled me once... never again.” Caesi stated through gritted teeth, her tone coming out full of rage as she tightened her hands into small fists. “She will pay for this.” Caesi swore aloud, to her family and pavilion, so all would know that one day she would have her revenge.

To think she woke up worried about the girl's safety. Frightened that she was harmed by the pretend Glassbeak. It was all for not too. The mean brat had played a joke on her. However, next time the joke would be on her. She would have her revenge for what Merevaika did to her. She peered down and almost started crying. It appeared that she had been more scared than she realized. Her britches had a large wet spot, where she had pissed herself. She will pay for this.. Caesi promised once more, as silent tears streamed down her face.
