For Raeyn & Saiyin, Midsummer's Festival ain't exactly a walk in the park.

The Diamond of Kalea is located on Kalea's extreme west coast and called as such because its completely made of a crystalline substance called Skyglass. Home of the Alvina of the Stars, cultural mecca of knowledge seekers, and rife with Ethaefal, this remote city shimmers with its own unique light.

They walked carefully and slower than Saiyin was used to through the festival. She was unaware of any sense of being used as a distraction, instead, she was perfectly accustomed to socialising and was finding it easier and easier with her new-found acquaintance. With their arms linked, Saiyin both listened intently to his fluent method of speaking whilst letting herself admire the festivities. She was rather confused when he told her what his profession was, as she'd never pegged him down as a hunter of all people.

The Lhavitian's eyebrows quirked, but relaxed as she asked, "What was it that drew you to that profession, then? Most hunters I'm aware of are the more rugged type than yourself. I'm sure you're a boon to the hunting community, as you're obviously well-educated, even if you're not a scholar outright."

Realising he had tried to guess her job too, she grinned at his answer and half-shrugged, half-nodded. "Yes, I suppose you could say I work in a shop. I'm a glassblower by trade, hence the less than fine clothing that I'm sure you would have noticed. My work is messy and hot, but incredibly enjoyable."

The two people walked past a square laid out on the floor. Saiyin gently pulled the man to a stop so that she could watch the performance inside. Two men, both stunningly athletic and topless, were dancing surrounded by fire that ran in a thin funnel around them. They carried long sticks, and from time to time these were dowsed in the fire to be withdrawn flaming brightly. Saiyin's eyes were bright and full of wonder, and she pointed as one man seemed to breathe fire from his lips. Her hand went to her own lips with shock and surprise, and she let out a huh of surprise.

His second question was easy to answer, and she answered it rather distractedly, being entranced by the easy movements of the men and the wildness of the fire. "Aah, I like at the Okomo Estates. I have a cottage there, which I inherited after my mother and father died. It's really very lovely, I don't know if you're familiar with the Estates but it's a beautiful place to live. How about you, where do you live Raeyn?"

With an effort, she pulled her eyes away from the performance, and grinned chirpily at her companion. What else could she glean from their conversation? She was morbidly curious to know who exactly his sister was, but somehow she figured he'd rather not talk about the incessantly beautiful, red-headed woman who had blitzed into Saiyin's evening. Instead, she settled on a lesser question. "So, have you travelled much?" It would be a safe question for him, she presumed, and that meant for less drama, which would be nice after the little disaster of their dancing.

Dance, Baby, Dance!

Raeyn had never considered himself too fine looking to be a hunter. After all such things as baths and cosmetics existed. He had a weakness for beautiful clothing, soft materials and pretty jewels. It would be unbecoming to go out in his usual hunting attire. “I suppose we all have to stop working sometimes. Believe me I don’t wear these things in the forest.”

Glassblowing always fascinated him. His father told him of the artisans of his youth and how they created beautiful colours from crude materials. “Perhaps you could show me how you do it one day.” But quickly did Raeyn halt the thought as it leaped from his lips. He had never counted on seeing the same person twice unless he had some reason to seek them out and could not, in spite of much effort, persuade Mara to go run the errand for him. Such a recluse, was he. Instead he simply smiled, and let things pan out as they will. No sense in worrying needlessly.

As they passed the square, Saiyin really didn’t need to beg him to stop for too long for the sight of the shirtless fire dancers caught his eye too. And he was certainly impressed. Perhaps a little too impressed. There was little that the fire tricks could do to deter his attention from the chiselled, athletic musculature of the men but he did his best to not make that very obvious.

“I work there quite often. Just earlier this season one of the residents needed me to deal with a little rodent problem. Perhaps a neighbour of yours. Coming to think of it I can’t believe we haven’t bumped into each other earlier. Or perhaps we have and just haven’t committed it to memory.”

He gave her next question a little thought. Would travelling though the unforgiving count as travel? And if so how far from the city gates would he have to have gone, for Raeyn never did venture far. Deeming it unworthy of note he then replied. “Regrettably not. And I’m fiercely jealous of anyone who has. You see when I was little my grandfather had told mess many beautiful stories of our homeland, Wind Reach. I’ve always wanted to visit but it seems theres never the right time. There’s always something else to do.” A soft smile lit his face as he reminisced those blissful times of his childhood. “Alas I was born in Lhavit and fear I’ll die in Lhavit. How about you? I assume you’ve not travelled here from lands afar seeing as you mentioned inheriting your house from your parents.”

Saiyin listened to the man's conversation politely as the men played with the whirling dervish of fire in front of them. A cheer and applause went up as they performed a particularly daring feat of fire dancing, where one ended up standing on the shoulders of the other. Saiyin applauded too, delighted at the incredible athleticism of the two men. She cast a sideways glance at new acquaintance, and smiled to see his equal appreciation of the artform of the fiery performers.

"Your family is from Wind Reach then? That's a fascinating family history, there. I think if I was to visit anywhere, although unlikely, it would be Wind Reach. From what little I know, it must be an amazing place, especially for my craft." Saiyin fiddled with the hem of her cloak. Even the prospect of leaving the comfort and safety of Lhavit for another city, no matter it's relative proximity, made her feel a little uneasy. It was true that she would love to learn more of glassblowing, especially from those well-versed in the craft, and Wind Reach seemed a perfect place for such learning. As Saiyin wasn't much of a book learner if she could help it, the chance to learn from a master was appealing.

And yet, the miles that spanned between the two cities seemed endless, full with danger, plain and simple. Saiyin couldn't imagine going, not even for a visit, so she filed the foolish thought away and brought her attention to answering Raeyn's quesiton.

"I too am from Lhavit. I was born and raised here, on Sharai Peak. I don't think I shall ever leave. There's too much to love here, so much to learn still, and besides Mizahar is very dangerous." The woman nodded, assertively, and continued, though trying very hard not to sound like she was lecturing. "I think that it would be incredibly foolish of me to travel anywhere, even if I trained for years. There are a lot of amazing places in the world; Ahnatep, Wind Reach... But my mother died in the wilderness from a simple mistake, one that anyone could make. I won't sacrifice my life for exploration and adventure, no matter how thrilling."

"Anyway!" The woman laughed a little, and wiped her hair back from her face. In her eyes, the whirling fire danced. "That's enough of doom and gloom, isn't it. This is a festival..-!"

Her little speech was interrupted by a gangly young man, who happened to be incredibly drunk. She knew, because the mug of ale he had been holding was suddenly finding a new home on the front of her top. Her attention was diverted away from Raeyn for a tick as she cursed quite loudly and unladylike, annoyed surprise painted across her face. A distant sound of revelry had been following the two for a while, but as they'd stopped at the fire dancers, the revellers had managed to catch up with them, and being as drunk as they were meant that they had little regard for the unfortunate few that managed to get in their way.

Saiyin shoved the drunkard, who only laughed loosely and stumbled several feet before falling against another of his companions. She brushed the worse of the liquid off, but it would take a good washing to get the stickiness out of the material. She turned around to complain with Raeyn, but to her surprise and small amount of disappointment, the man was missing, carried away in the surging crowd. She sighed, shook out her hair, and looked around the festival. The fire dancers no longer held their charm, to her dismay, and she found her mood had been extinguished with the beer. Turning, she weaved her way out of the festival, and made her way for home.
