The vast, beautiful oceans encircling Mizahar. The Eastern Ocean to the east and the Western Ocean to the west.

Moving Forward

The rising suns rays cut through the dewy morning mists, shining a warm light through the unmaterialized ghost. Jomi stood on the deck watching the sun rise over the outer ocean. The suns reflection on the water created a beautiful prism on the waters surface, a school of dolphin had been chasing the ship and playing in its wake for the last bell. Their happy squeaks and playful splashes brought a smile to the ghosts face. But the way the sailors ignored these simple pleasures was starting to bother the ghost, threatening to pull the ghosts mood back into a bitter ball of self pity like when he first came back to unlife. They ran about on the deck and up the riggings without once stopping to breath the salty air or feel the warmth on their skin. All senses the ghost would kill for just to feel one last time.

As he watched the dolphins his mind drifted to Madeira, she had been cooped up in her cabin since they left Alvadas, preferring the company of cats, birds and a delusional little ghost over human interaction. And that isolation was now starting to affect the Jomi too. The pair had lived together for over a year and slowly they were starting to understand each other, they had gone beyond what was suppose to be a minimal relationship of mutual benefit. She had approached him because she wanted a servant, and he wanted a living companion to help him navigate the world, but like a creeping sickness the ghost was realizing something that he never thought he’d ever feel again. He liked being under her control. His innate Kelvic need for a master was still strong in the ghost, even if his bonding capabilities were gone. And having watched Madeira develop from a scared little girl who had never left home and couldn't make a decision without the express permission of her family, to a driven and ambitious, cold and calculated woman had awakened something in him he couldn’t quite describe. But that was just her war face, a show she put on for others to further her own goals, to Allister and Emma she was always kind and patient. She had taken in these damaged creatures and patching them up the best she could, giving them purpose and something to rally around. Jomi was slowly realizing that was what he wanted too, someone he could serve who in turn could look after him.

He wanted a bondmate.

The strands of soulmist that surrounded the ghost began to resend back to his core. All of the errant wisps that flickered around his body began to pack down creating a border around him giving the ghost a semblance of solidity. The sailors on deck eyed him suspiciously as he materialized, now able to see him they began backing up a few paces to give him a wider berth. They knew Madeira was a spiritist and that she had taken ghosts aboard, but there was a inherent mistrust of the undead and magic users in general among the crew even with disciplines as necessary and widely practised as spiritism.

Moving Forward

Postby Jomi on August 6th, 2018, 2:14 am

Jomi had taken to bringing Madeira her breakfast rations in exchange for a morning jar of soulmist as a simple way for him to practice his balance and soulmist control. So with the rising of the sun, Jomi made his way down to the gallery to gather the biscuits and salted pork or whatever it was she was eating today.

The night crew were just finishing up their shift, weary eyes and sore bodies made for the crew quarters for some much needed rest as Jomi drifted through them. Most stepped out of the way of the ghost, more out of habit than anything else as he made his way down the corridor to the gallery. Even in his materialized state the ghosts soulmist still swirled and twisted through and around his body. The ghost was not feeling well, the simple minded Kelvic was not built for the kind of introspection that he desperately needed and now it was eating away at his mind.

What he needed was a distraction, anything that could take his mind off the thoughts of his rapidly eroding memory of his bondmate, and the guilt and betrayal he felt for wanting to replace her. The ship was shrouded in an aura of silence for a few precious ticks as the night crew crawled into their cots and the morning workers began to wake. The rustle of cloth and creaks of wood became the background noise as the sailors grunted and moaned their aching muscles awake. But underneath the baritone of the men a tiny noise could be heard, one that stood out from the rest due to its sharpness. The ghost dropped his materialization, letting go of his concentration and unspooling his gathered soulmist to let it flicker about his hazy form.

Dark eyes scanned the weathered floor, polished by countless boots and scuffed by years of cargo. It seemed he hadn't quite lost his predator eyes, for when a shadow quivered in the corner of the hold his dark eyes flicked up to meet it.

It was a mouse. A tiny thing with eyes like liquid marbles and a glossy black coat. It was backed into a corner, chattering it's long front teeth, it's worm like tail flicking to and fro as it met eyes with Jomi. And whether it feared the ghost, the badger or the human side of him he didn't know. But it didn't matter. A slow grin stretched across his face, and his nostrils flared instinctively, though they caught no scent. This would make a fine distraction.

He made a swipe for the rodent, coalescing his soulmist into the palm of his hand and projecting outward into a basic push. With a squeak of fright the mouse fought through his narrow attempt at projection and dashed off, staying pressed against the wall and it's shadows. It squeezed behind crates and barrels, hotly pursued by it's incorporeal attacker.

Squeezing through a crack in the wall, Jomi finally caught up with the squirming mouse. It was becoming easier to possess another creature. He was becoming comfortable with folding his soul into the forgin space, and confident in his suppression of animal souls. His soulmist stretched through muscle and bone, curled through little claws and flattened ears, expanding through the chest and demanding it to breath.

It was over in ticks, and Jomi found himself with the sudden forced perspective change that came with being an inch off the ground.
