4th Day of Fall, 518 A.V.

Quzon chewed of a piece of his thumbnail. It was how he kept his fingers properly groomed most of the time, apart from a sharp blade to shave his head if his hair became longer than a few inches. He spat it out somewhere over the side railing of the Svefra palivar that he boarded passage on to a settlement called Syka. When he'd sought out a ride to get him close to Taloba in Riverfall, he could only find a pod in the middle of departing after resupplying themselves at the coastal city before heading close to Syka where they would trade with a merchant ship. He was lucky that they accepted him on, agreeing to quickly drop him off, only requiring him to work for passage.

Quzon aided in loading the supplies onto the ship, and gladly acted as a guard to defend the ship so long as he was on it. He kept to himself for the four days they said it would take to reach the new settlement, although they told him the pod could make it in two days at top speed, they were in no rush to get to Syka after only recently restocking in Riverfall. And so, the Myrian spent most of his time sitting on top of his large chest that held the largest of his bodybuilding equipment that could not fit into his bottomless backpack, pushing the heavy chest to the side of the ship and claiming the spot as his own, even sleeping there above deck.

Quzon sat on the chest, his eyes glancing up to the tip of the Maw on the distant horizon. It was still too far away to feel any wave of nostalgia at the sight of the jungle. The Myrian passed the time by setting his bottomless backpack in his lap to retrieve one of the other pieces of parchment that were held safely within it, pulling out a delicate piece of warn paper that had clearly seen better days. He held the piece of paper in the palm of his left hand, cupping it as if it were a fragile flame about to be snuffed by the wind with his right hand.

"Aur..Auris, Auristics." He sounded out the words in his head, trying his best to read in Common which was the language he was worst at speaking. The first sweeping pass of his eyes along passage was used to set the words into his mind. Once it was done, he read it through with some legibility.

"Auristics allows a mage to focus their own djed to enhance five senses to perceive the Aura of other things. Everything creates an aura around itself, a flame, a flower, a bowl of milk. An Aurist needs to 'focus' on a specific aura to learn of its physical properties, Internal structure, the feeling of others, and various other natures. For a fledgling Aurist, its best to focus on one aura at a time to discover basic information..."

There was clearly more that the writer of the journal entry wanted to say, but those words were lost to time as old worn piece of a page ended abruptly. There was a sensation that flowed trough him as he looked at the piece of paper, his mind focusing on it for the longest moment. It was as if he'd entered an intense meditation before it was disturbed by the sounds of birds in the distance. He looked up to find the that the he was at his destination. Quzon put the parchment back into his backpack, then thanked the Svefra after they helped him get his chest onto a casinor that took him to the shore some distance north from the Saw Mill, enough beyond it heading towards sharktooth.

Practicality set in near instantly, but its timing came only after old memories of dim days running under the jungle canopy, past moments sitting around campfires with his fang during his days in the army, and the rush of old battles unwound through his mind. It was the remembrance of those past things that held him there, looking out over the colorless landscape. His memory of color the only reasons he imagine the green of the tree leaves on the far treeline.

"Move your ass Rekrut!" The memory of his old Fang Leader Yolotli of The Changing Moon caused a smirk to tug at his lips. Taloba was a long way away and he was rusty in the ways of wilderness survival. He looked down to his large wooden chest, its heavy constants of weights making it too heavy for anyone to steal.

He turned around to watch how the waves encroached onto the shore.

Their was a clear discoloration of displaced sands from the past high tide, showing where the water would lift to. His trunk rested just within the discolored patch, meaning he needed to move a meter away from the shore to be safe. "If I'm going to go through all the effort to move them, I should set up a temporary campsite." The Myrian spoke aloud to himself, keeping himself company as he focused on his own survivability.

It took a moment, but Quzon worked to pitch his tent after removing its pieces from his backpack. He laid the base ground tarp of the tent on the sand, finding the area flat enough to not require reimancy to adjust. He then laid the 'top tent' portion of it on atop the ground covering.

Quzon made sure to have the entrance of his tent face towards the jungle, and not the sea because he always like to keep an eye on dangers from it, rather than the sea. To the right and left his tent laid protruded all the rope strands that would be used to fastened the tent to the ground with stakes.

Quzon used his bare hand strength to embed the first front stakes into the ground after tying the rope around the end of it. He pressed the spike deeply into the sand, then reached back to pull his hand axe from his belt. The Myrian did not have a hammer, but the flat side of his axe seemed to do the trick as he lifted his arm to slam the end of the stake further into the deep ground.

Once that was done, he did the same thing to the stake fastener on the other side, before erecting the first tent pole at the mouth entrance, tying the bottom and top of the tent to the pole that not held the tent upright like a spine with the fasteners as the muscle which kept the front of the tent upright. He repeated the process to the back of the tent, then staked all the other fasteners into the ground. It took him several chimes to do before turning back to his heavy chest. The Bodybuilder knew his limits, so he opened the chest to hand move all the pieces within it first.

He opened it up, reaching down to take out a fifty pound metal circular metal weight. If he were going to move all the weights, he was sure going to make it into a work out. He held the weights high, up around his collar bone while slowly walking to his tent. The sand added extra resistance as he walked back and forth to set his weights down in front of the tent, only to walk back to get the heavier items. His fingers gripped tightly at the metal, keeping control as he made sure not to drop any of them. Quzon stopped mid way to his tent to press the bottom of his palms against the metal, pressing the weight up into the air before retracting his arms, feeling the swell of blood flowing through his veins from the pump of the steel.

His arms started to feel that cold relief of excitement at being forced to carry the strain of heavy metal. It was a sensation Quzon loved, but he knew it was the wrong time to go full force at bodybuilding. "Can't get too out of hand. You've still things to do today." He reminded himself as he Finished moving all of his weights, then putting his chest inside of the tent.

Not So Out Of Place

Quzon relaxed into the familiar routine of establishing his base camp, a comfortingly familiar thing that helped him not think of anything else while he was in the mindset of survival. He didn't do camping much anymore, not since having lived in Endrykas before his time in Riverfall. In an attempt to further bring himself back into such life or death mindset, the half-blood Myrian decided to fully arm himself.

He set his backpack down onto the ground where he retrieve several items. The first items he pulled from it were a matching set of steel spiked gauntlets of which he slipped them onto his hands, wiggling his fingers at the sensation of the the weight which encapsulated them. The bear-helmet hood of his Hunters Hide had been pushed off from his head which allowed him to set his Chakram around his neck to act like jewelry. Afterwards, he wrapped the rope of his Aclis around his waist like an improvised belt, wrapping the club of the weapon with the rope to keep it from hitting his left thigh. And lastly, he snugly set his Handaxe into place at under the rope at the small of his back.

Now armored and armed like a true warrior, he took off in a dead sprint to find the common areas of the settlement. Meaning, he ran of to the north east further... away... from the settlement. It went without saying that Quzon knew nothing of Syka's Layout. He was told nothing of it from those people who gave him passage to the shore, and neither did he ask them. Quzon started running before he even realized it, he took off down the beach on instinct alone while leaving deep footfalls of his boots into the sandy beach.

The land itself between the jungles edge and the shore began to turn into a narrow smattering of both terrains. The only real obstacles were provided by the sea itself, where the exposed portions of the sharp blade like reef could be seen under the shallow clear waters. He continued to trudge along the shores of Sharktooth point, taking note of the pool of busy fish, and shark fins protruding from the water. "That's dangerous, but a good place to fish." The Mage thought before storing that information away to be used if he required food. He wasn't a good fisher, but he believed he could spear a larger predator with his reimancy if need be.

His path was a direct one that followed the shore, but his pace stopped once he spotted a figure on the far horizon. Quzon slowed his run into a slow crawl to give himself more time to examine what the person was doing. He was far enough away that his foot steps to be masked by the ambient sounds of the sea, however it was blatently obvious that anyone with eyes could see him coming. After all, he was the only person walking along the coast at the moment. Quzon managed to get within fifty yards of who Quzon witnessed to be an oddly flailing man.

He could not tell what colors there were, but it was obvious from the black and white strips running through the flailing man's hair that he was a Svefra. He watched as the Svefra laid on the sands of the beach, while prone atop what seemed to be some type of wooden board. He looked to be awkwardly paddling into the sand, trying their best to keep their abdomen contracted and in contact with the board. Quzon almost started to laugh as he watched the idiot slide from the side of the board from their own paddling to lay prone on their side on the sand. The board under the man acted like gadgeteer's seesaw, with all of the man's weight shifting to the side of the board, the other side popped up to then fall onto the prone man. With the board now atop the Svefra as if the inanimate object were no practicing the odd flailing with the man as the board.

Image"Huh." It was the only expression he could manage to describe the oddity he'd just witnessed. Quzon made his way closer to the man, who did not seem to even acknowledge his presence even as he saw that the Svefra had clearly turned his head into his direction after putting the board back onto the ground to continue the strange practice. He stood forty yards from the man before they seemed to suddenly stop. He watched the man shift their head around, shifting the side of his head in Quzon's direction.

The Myrian continued to walk as his footsteps made the soft sounds of shifting sand. "Hello." The Svefra called out while rising to their feet instantaneously. "There a problem you need taken care of at the Community Pools?" In a rather secretive way, he watched as the Svefra stepped over the board to try and block it from view by making himself the forefront of all attention. "Hello?"

Quzon was about to say something when his eyes shifted to the sea shore. He bore witness to something that was odder than the previously paddling man on the board. If the Myrian was not mistaken, it looked like there was some type of reptilian tigers head peaking from the surface of the water. It acted like a predatory creature, prone to attack as it crept onto the shore. Quzon only managed to spot it due to the low tide as it did its best to keep a prone crawl under the shallow water.

His eyes shifted back to the man only for a moment, understanding that the man seemed to be blind given the fact he could not see the rather bulky and pale half Isur who now stood only ten meters away. Within that fraction of a moment, Quzon watched as the beast erupted from the waters onto the sandy beach. The Creature bearing its long razor sharp teeth in attempt to try and capture the Svefra to drag the man into the waters depths.

"DEFEND!"

Quzon yelled out in the most clear form of Common he'd ever uttered. The sense of raw emotion in his intense command caused the Svefra to do something neither Quzon or the attacking creature expect. Duncan could only tell that there were two beings near him, one from the shore, and another running towards him from the sea. In response to Quzon, Duncan willed forth an ethereal blue mist that was his Res into the area in front of him as a means of defense, then ran towards the jungle to follow the edge of it towards Syka as the man's Res was instantly formed into an earthen wall that while not super thick, would block the beast from chasing him.

"Reimancer?"

Quzon would need to talk to the man later about that, but first the creature. It skittered to a sliding stop, its body slamming into the shale-thin earth wall that blocked its way. It shook its head, causing the long protrusions from its face to writhe slightly.

With its primary prey now gone, the creature shifted its focus onto Quzon. This was not how Quzon expected his day to go, but his heart started to rumbling like war drums within his chest. The hit of adrenaline that started to surge meant his fight or flight instincts had kicked in, and like a proper Myrian, he chose to fight.

Not So Out Of Place

The hypersensitivity of combat.

Quzon's eyes never once diverted away from the Karkula Whiptail.

He knew he was lacking in his weapons training which was an embarrassment to a any Myrian, but it was a weakness Quzon know he could rectify if he lived through this encounter. He knew his best chance to defend himself came from his arcane manipulation of the elements. He swiftly began to summon them to his defense once he'd seen that the creature had failed to catch its prey.

Quzon tapped into the inner pool of power that was his djed, gasping onto it as if with cupped hands to bring those powers to the surface. His focus felt like a cold shiver up his spine as he pulled his res up to the surface, emitting that power from his mouth in the form of a translucent intensely emerald green gas. The volume of gas was in comparison as large as his own torso.

He lifted his right hand, using it as an arcane gesture as he focused on splitting the Res clouds into two separate individual clouds. The Reimancer shifted one a meter in front of himself, with the other three meters away. The furthers one would be both his first line of attack and defense, while the second would be used to purely defend himself.

There were few things in the world that could rival those silent moments when facing down a foe ready to kill you. Combat was no game. A man could practice anything to get better at it, like an artist painting a picture. But no silly little games of hitting a wooden dummy could ever emulate the danger that turned a spar from just training into a life or death situation. Even still, Quzon wanted to live to go through those moments of practice training.

It was then that Quzon, on pure arcane incident of wielding his own Djed like a weapon, triggered a secondary magic. He was not a practitioner of Hypnosis. By the gods! He hadn't really even understood that he could use such a magic after reading the Hypnosis Magical Tease he found in his bottomless backpack. However, it was his intense focus on the Whiptail that triggered the use of Hypnotic magic within himself in an instinctual way.

His emerald eyes gazed forward through both of his equally emerald clouds of Res, right at the Whiptail who seemed to be getting ready to charge at him.

Quzon reached behind him to retrieve his handaxe from his belt. That action clearly seen by the creature was in its on way, an expression of Quzon's charisma.

His focus on his the beast and naming it his foe.

Him recognizing it as the individual being that would be his enemy in a fight to the death with in the here and now.

That motion of garbing his weapon and intent of battle met as one, forming the catalyst which triggered his nominal control of Hypnosis to impart those meanings as a mental Hypnotic Suggestion through his djed into the mind of the creature. The suggestion that would ripple from Quzon through the subconscious mind of the Karkula was a simple one: "We are enemies." In one way or another, that intent would echo though its subconscious to triggers its own fight or flight instincts. And just like Quzon, the creature chose to fight.

It was the first time he'd ever used Hypnotist, which meant that his eyes hurt. He knew that he'd used Dejed. A mage who couldn't feel power being channeled then used through their very own eyes would be a horrible mage. Quzon would worry about what exactly happened later that made his eyes sore.

Res control was the bread and butter of a Reimancer. Only a novice threw everything at a target in a battle. He held up his axe as he took a combat stance, one with a wide stance that would aid him in jumping to either side if it managed to charge close to him. Quzon willed the front most Res cloud into two, more clouds. It resulted him him controlling three gaseous clouds of his own res.

When the Whiptail finally charged, it did so with powerful hind legs made strong from a life of swimming in the resistance of the sea. That made it an agile beast. Quzon focused on the front-right most cloud of his res. Burn. It wasn't an incantation, but the Mage imparting his willpower onto his res to transmute its outer layer into a coat of fire.

The Whiptail pressed its hind legs into the sand, lunging into the air at Quzon while reaching out with its razor sharp claws.

His fire lingered in mid air like a small sun with a res filled core.

It was still within Quzon's area of control, which meant the Reimancer still had the ability to exact control over it. He did not throw the fire, but with the gesture of shifting his axe towards the lunging beast. Quzon put the floating fire in front of the monster's forward trajectory when it got within range of him.

Quzon simply put the fire right into its lunging path just in front of the monsters face. The Whiptail's very own forward lunging momentum rammed its face through the flames, burning the right side of its face. "Ignite!" He yelled in Myrian as he transmuted the inner core of the fire into a fireball blaze. While the creatures head was still within the arcane fire, the long protrusions on the right side of its face, full of sensitive sensory nerves were burned at the base of its whiskery nose. Utterly removed from its body as it fell to the sandy beach.

The Karkula Whiptail roared in pain as its forward change was turned into a violent forwards barrel roll. Quzon had no time to dodge given he needed to use that time to wiled his Res. It resulted in the heavy mass of the Karkula slamming into his body which sent them both toppling to the ground. Quzion fell backwards, while his body acted like a ramp that sent the monster rolling off of him and slamming into the ground further a meter away. That was one hundred and fifty five of pure weight tackling him head on in the chest. Even his hunter's hide armor couldn't really defend him from that bludgeoning which knocked the air out of him, a pain that forced him to drop his axe.

The panic of gasping for air kicked in as he sat upright. The panic distracted him for a moment, but the Karkula had its own pain and panic to worry about. It rolled its body along the sand while holding up its foreleg fins to grasp at its nostrils from the pain of losing a nerve ending.

Quzon and the Karkula could have been birds of a feather in the way the both reacted at the moment. He rolled to his knees while gasping for any amounts of air. The Karkula rolled to stand on its legs.

He shuffled backwards to get behind his res. The Karkula spun round in a panicked effort, waving its tail as a means of defense during its escape. The very tip of its tail slammed against his armor, bashing enough to send him backwards into the sand before it sprinted to the seas to vanish under the water. Quzon knew instantly that it must have cracked a rib.

Both Quzon and the Karkula's hearts pounding from the unexpected challenge of the day.

This fight long from over between the two... they were now enemies.

Not So Out Of Place

Quzon stared blankly up into the sky as he wheezed for air. It was a pained wheeze that slowly turned to low guttural grunts before he started to just accept the pain. He needed this. An injury to remind him that his home was no place for luxury. The pain made it truly felt like home again. The slow pattering of footfalls upon the sand made the Mixed Blood glance towards the other Reimancer who approached him from the tree line. His eyes turning to find the whisker he burned off to collect it as a trophy that he stored in his backpack.

"Hello there, friend? Are you dead. I'd only hate myself for the rest of the day if you were, then drink in your honor for maybe another night more."

The sharp pain along his right chest caused him to hold his right forearm up against it as if it were a brace. It took him a long moment to roll to his knees then stand up, pressing the flat of the hand axe into the sand like a cane to aid in standing without bending too far over. "I'm alive." Quzon said in rather sarcastic tone. "Barely, but live." The broken common and heavy Myrian accent caused Duncan to perk an ear slightly. "Its better than dead. So, congratulations you saved me. My hero." The Svefra said while holding out a hand towards Quzon. He would have shaken it, but the man held out the hand to receive from a shake from the side the Myrian was nursing his injury.

"Knuckles." Quzon stated curtly as he held out his left arm with a balled fist. Pressing the knuckles to the mans hand. Duncan got the idea soon enough. Balling his own fist to clash knuckles with the Myrians. "Alright, Knuckles. I'm Duncan." The nickname caused Quzon to narrow his eyes slightly. He was not sure if he liked that or not. Mainly because he couldn't tell if it was some type of vague insult that just went over his head. "My name Quzon." A simple release of a breath caused him to release all control of any extra res to imply disperse into the sands.

Duncan stored the information of the mans real name away, then continued to call him Knuckles. "Wonderful name. As you can tell, Knuckles, I'm glad to have met you." A smirk and a pat on Quzon's shoulders were met were given as the Blind man turned towards the treeline away from the sound of the ocean, then started to walk along the direction to the Syka Commons. "Follow me. Lets walk and talk. We don't want whatever that was to catch us by surprise again." He paused for a moment before continuing. "By the way, what attacked us?"

Quzon hobbled beside the man as they walked together back towards the direction of his tent. He realized quickly that he was going the wrong direction if he wanted to reach the city. "Karkula Whiptail." It was said with a slight grunt as the expanding of his ribs when he made a breath too large shot pain up his spine. It was at that moment that he wanted to be as hardy as other Isur in Sultros. If his bones couldn't be that dense, then he'd just have to put on more muscle even though he was more durable than an average human who might may have possibly been more harmed by the beast.

"A whiptail? Nasty creatures. How did you fend it off?" Duncan asked curiously as they slowly made their ways further up the beach. Quzon could see his tent in the distances inching ever closer towards them. "I, like you, am reimancer. Burned its face with flame. It hit me with tail. It lost whisker. I think broken rib. No true victory, only minor. My camp coming up here on beach." Duncan nodded. "I'll help you brake down your camp. If you burned its whisker off, then it will be back later with its mate; whiptails mate for life you know. Come on. If you can use water than I can get you a job helping me maintain the baths. I'll not say no to more free time."

Quzon and Duncan both went through the slow process of taking down his camp once they reached it. Then they both struggled to get his chest drag the chest of weights towards the Commons. They left it on the sandy beach once they got it past sharktooth point and reached the walkway of the Cobbled Pathway. At that point, it was relatively easy to find their way around the settlement.

"Like I was saying, you need to talk to a founder if you want to get anything done here in Syka. Or if you want to get you five good acres of Land, maybe a loan if you need one. And if you need to get that rib looked at, visit the Panacea due west up the beach for healing." "Don't need loan. Land, yes, Build own home not like those." Quzon glanced to a few beach side structures as they walked passed them. "The Overwater Ranchos, they were made by Founder Randal Zor. He did a great job making them..." Duncan trailed off as he a voice shouted out, cutting him off. "I did more than great, I did a damn good job If I don't say so myself." Randal stated while walking towards the two men from one of the leading from a Ranchos to intercept them.

"Speak of one and they shall appear." Duncan said as he stood in the general direction of Randal. The shirtless Founder eyed the way Quzon was nursing his side then quirked a brow. "You alright stranger? I Don't think we've met, but you look worse for wear." Quzon nodded his head in response as Duncan chimed in. "Knuckles here seems to be the strong silent type. Says just enough and nothing less. Saved me from a Karkula Whiptail moments ago, so I like him. Also seems to be good with my type of magic. Wants to get some land and set up shop here."

Quzon did not need Duncan to take over the conversation like that, but it was appreciated to a minor degree. It meant he didn't have to stumble his way across the language barrier. "Yes, what he said. I'm Quzon. My injury will heal in time." Randal shrugged then in the most warmly welcoming way, reached out with a right hand to shake the hand of the Mixed Bloods non-injured side. Quzon accepted the gesture by shaking the man's hand firmly. "Welcome to Syka. First day here and you're already defending citizens. I respect that. Buraga can't be everywhere at once; he's the current devoted Settlement Defender. Just look for the imposing man with a long sword roaming around here somewhere. Spread word around that there are whiptails around. Where there is one their tends to be another."

Quzon had a hard time keeping up with all that was said, but remained stoic enough in his facial features to not show it. He just took what common language was given disseminated it at his own time. Its why there was a small lull of silence after the founder had finished speaking. "Will you move earth if needed. Stop fires. Will continue to aid in future fights. Will find stone for building. Just need land to make home." Quzon stated as he held up his axe firmly in the hand of the arm against his chest. "Then I hunt down beasts." He said with a little too much bile and hatred behind those words. "Whao there Knuckles. Rest up first." Duncan said as he patted Quzon on the back.

Randal held back a chuckle at the now obviously part-Myrian; from his general attitude, and part-Isur; from his physical build. "Those all sound like good things to me. We just have to talk about the details and we can get you all settled up in no time once you are better."
