Perhaps Ines's favorite nighttime activity was drinking blood. She was a vampire bat, and despite being blended with human desires and feelings and tastes, regular food never quite felt as filling as blood. Vampire bats were so intentionally built for this purpose that many features of her animal form carried over. She had two elongated, incredibly sharp canines and could hear much lower frequencies than any of the Myrians she had grown up with. As Tskanna and Ashta often communicated in deep rumbles, she knew when they were approaching way before anyone else in her clan.

Learning of the Swine Swells was more exciting to the bat than any celebrations in Taloba. The sheer amount of pigs sleeping on the beach meant that she had to approach from the sky rather than creeping along the sand as she would for any other animal, but it was like winning the jackpot of easily harvested midnight meals.

Feeding was second nature. Instinct. Pigs barely had much hair to begin with, and she had specialized teeth to shave it off, anyway. All of the pigs were sleeping in the sand, ignorant to the tiny threat that she and the other vampire bats - there were many crowding the beach, it was an easy spot - posed. Not that they posed much of a threat to begin with, because their bodies couldn't hold enough blood to make a difference in the body of a pig. She kept as quiet with Nura as she could, releasing only feelings and images to the pig that she felt would calm the creature, and received bits of its own dreams in return. Ines crawled along its body, sensing the heat from its blood on her nose and searching for the warmest, safest spot to drink, and began the process.

With the hair shaved away, Ines used her razor sharp front teeth to gently slice the pig's skin. Her teeth were the sharpest of any of Caiyha's animals, and the sleeping pig didn't move at all. It was after this that the bat lapped up the blood. Her saliva kept it flowing and kept the pig ignorant to its status as her meal. It was nearly half a bell before she was finished. The bat had to wait a few chimes before she could leave and her body squeezed out the excess liquid from the blood, lowering the weight enough after passing it through her body so that she could fly home.

The bat had been spending the nights on the open hammocks that she had been told were free to use, and she was a respectful denizen of the settlement who cleaned up after herself. She didn't have many possessions, and those that she had all folded nicely into a large chest she had stashed in a common area, safe from the rain. The witch never had a reason in Taloba to protect her belongings from theft, and felt similarly safe in Syka. This night, however, the bat desired much that her current environment couldn't give in return. She had already been flying back towards her favorite hammock, but in a spurt of loneliness, turned around in hopes that she could catch up to the other vampire bats that had been feeding on the pigs. It always felt as if the odds were stacked up against her - she was communal by nature, this blended with an intense need to find something that felt empty and missing from her life. Her life in Taloba was plenty communal, but that mysterious something was never quite fulfilled.

There seemed to be no remnants of anymore vampire bats left in the Swells. The witch could hear or see no others and no echolocation nearby, just the steady breathing of the sleeping pigs. If she was lucky, she'd be able to find the cave they were going to sleep in for the coming dawn. She flew along the coast, further north, until she spotted a sizable cliff. Any good cliff would hide a few caves, but after some inspection, there were only a few stone steps and a wooden door. No light peeked from any cracks, and Ines realized that perhaps this was the home of the man who often walked past the saw mill.

By now Ines was incredibly tired, and in no mood to turn around or spend any more time searching for the other bats. The bat flew onto the door and stuck her head through a crack much too small for the rest of her body. Her only goal here, however, was to listen for the telltale low and steady breathing of a large, sleeping person. A chime later and the kelvic, was in her human shape, testing the door knob. It was unlocked, just as she had hoped. She looked around the vicinity for any other signs of life, and cracked the door just enough to slip in. The door was clearly not made by the best of craftsmen because it emanated a loud creak as she did so, but the bat was still able to enter, undisturbed.

Once inside, she let her eyes become acquainted to the much darker darkness that was afforded when one was shielded from Leth's gaze. It was cool, dark, and the perfect spot for the bat to get the most comfortable sleep she would be able to get since arriving in the small settlement. Ines tiptoed around, still listening for signs of another inhabitant - that man, perhaps - until she found a bed. It appeared to be the only comfortable spot in the whole place, and the kelvic fell fast asleep before her head even hit the pillow.

9th Day of Summer, 519 A.V.

The night was, apparently, very eventful for Quzon despite him hardly saying a word. He’d spent more time with Kiveth and Kajun'tar at the Tidepool Bar talking about various geological endeavors. But, he did not expect for the Verusk Experimentress named T'aidell to also joined them, and push the talkative Talivindra’s agenda onto them to obtain beauty supplies for Syka. It both exposed T'aidell's expert knowledge of Geology and allowed the woman direct Talivindra away from her and onto someone else.

Quzon was surprised to learn that mineral mica; the first mineral he ever studied, would be useful for making various powdered Cosmetology products. To him, it was just a signal mineral to discover other gems. It was useless to him. All it did was sparkle slightly in the right light. However, that was when the realization hit him.

Earth that glittered and sparkle like a star would inevitably cause someone to want to wear it on their face. Quzon removed himself from the bar once night had fallen, mainly to abandon Kiveth and Kajun'tar to deal with Talivindra's rant on 'beautiful things'.

It did not take long for Quzon to make his to his personal quarters passed Shark Tooth Point. He was adorned in an outfit that consisted of a loincloth, backpack, and boots; And if it counted, a smirk that tugged at his usually dour expression from what had happened.

Quzon entered the house, closed the door behind him, then went into the common area to light the hearth. A minuscule gold miza side cloud of res emitted from his forehead that he willed forth into the hearth, then transmuted into flame. The tinder caught which made the lumber inside soon cast a warm white glow throughout his home.

Quzon noticed Ines as soon as he entered his bedroom.

For a moment the Myrian was certain he was seeing things. But after a swift double take, he was sure that there was someone in his bed. "Just my luck... she's dead isn't she? This is how I'm run from Syka? Blamed for murder." He thought to himself as he took his boots off to get comfortable before turning to the home intruder. "That wouldn't work. I'd bury the body so deep only Semele and Dira would know where to find it." It made him glad that he knew how to quickly hide a body if he needed too.

That idea was what caused him to approach the edge of the bed to examine the woman. He did the typical thing of waving his hand over her head to see if she was really asleep, and from what he could tell at least breathing. The nudity made it easy to spot the tattoo on her limbs; which ever ones they were. It appeared to be a detailed enough design worthy of a gnosis mark, but from which deity he was not certain. It was beautiful, but was also clearly not from Myri.

He wasn't sure if that was a plus or negative against her, but what did affect their first impression was the fact that she did look a bit frail... And there was also the fact that she was intruding. "Female needs a hearty diet and a weight lifting regiment." Quzon said in Myrian before starting the process of trying to snake his arms under her torso and legs to pick her up. "Up we go. You can sleep here until morning..." No one could say that Quzon wasn't a gracious host as he tried to put her down on the ground within his empty walk-in closet; and if she didn't wake up, he'd even close the door to give her some privacy.

She could see through the eyes of a man, walking up to a door set into a Leth-lit cliff. He opened it slowly, but it sent out a loud creeeaaaaak! anyway. Then, in the darkness, it was heard - a tremendously loud, repetitive grating noise. Snoring! The man turned a corner and there was the culprit, a small woman asleep on a bed. It was not her bed, though, and she didn't belong here. He positioned his hands above her head, ready to chop down on her neck, until-

Ines woke up with a yelp around the very second Quzon had picked her up. She was too tired to struggle, but her change in breathing, the movement of her hands to rub her eyes, and confused mumbling were good clues into the state of her wakefulness. She had sworn that, in the fraction of time between the end of her dream and her yank into consciousness, she had heard Myrian spoken. Syka had its own Myrians, but the witch was not aware of where they lived. If she was lucky, then she'd be able to stay the rest of the night here with some haggling. By the time she was really awake, though, the man picking her up wasn't speaking anymore, if he even had to begin with. Ines squirmed a bit before coming to her senses and shifted into her vampire bat form. As a bat she was very, very tiny, and she used her small size to her advantage. Ines jumped out of the man's arms onto the floor, and crawled around a bit with her strong forelimbs into the closest dark corner unlit by the fire.

The kelvic shifted back as soon as she reached the dark corner, eyes wide at the man. She shouldn't have been surprised that the owner of the cave-home would arrive and kick her out of their bed, but her expression said otherwise. Her hair was a sleepy mess and her limbs looked all tangled up from the position she had sat.

"Is this your home?" She queried in Myrian, as if all present evidence didn't point to the fact. Hidden among the surprise in her face was also an inspection. The first thing she saw was his gnosis, Myri's mark lying blatant on his arm. He was as tall as a Myrian, too, as much as any man in Taloba she had seen. He was also very pale, in a grey-blue sort of way that wasn't seen on anyone else before. Most people the witch had seen with such light skin were more in the pink-red range, red especially on the beach. This man was nearly devoid of the hues. She had seen similar patterns her entire life, but there was a tug of annoyance in the back of her mind, as if something was off about its appearance. After her pause for thought, she'd continue, still in Myrian. "You need a comfier bed. Straw is way too scratchy. Feathers would do you good, you know."

Ines ran a hand through her hair, an act that more visibly displayed her Caiyha mark. It currently featured the mother and child Tskanna pair joined by more of their kind on a walk around a flooded area of the Kandukta Basin. The bat's eyes, however, kept wandering to his gnosis and the contrast between his skin and Myri's mark. Another question was bubbling up, but she decided to wait until he started speaking himself.

"You break into my home and complain about my bed?"

The sleepy Kelvic's words made Quzon grunt to himself at the hilarity of the situation. The grunt was an instinctual thing, but the Mixed Bloods decision to speak in Myrian for the rest of the night was an easy choice to make. A hand raised to stroke at his collarbone, failing to find the flat side of the metal chakram that he typically wore as a neck piece. It Instead found the strands of the necklace he wore.

Those fingers glided along the starnds until he caught a ring at made of bone between his index finger and thumb. He'd laced the necklace through a bone ring which allowed it to rest safely atop the compass medallion at the end of it.

"This must mean you have a feather bed waiting for your return..." He halted the habitual stroking of his jewelry to gesture a hand towards the door. "You are free to leave, but if you want to stay for the night you'll have to do twenty push-ups, sit-ups, and squats." Quzon felt like a nice little work out would be the best way to get back at his home intruder.

"Only 20 of each? I didn't know you ran a daycare." Ines teased, though she hadn't done any sort of structured workout in a long time, instead maintaining any strength she had by working. She just ate, too, but a stomach full of blood didn't translate to much when she was in human form. Plus... challenges were fun.

"You're going to do it too, right?" The bat asked as she stretched the sleep out of her bones, extending her legs and reaching for her toes. "I mean, you don't have to if you don't want to be embarrassed..." Ines enjoyed the Myrian art of shyke-talking your opponent. She knew he was Myrian, too, but she hadn't ever seen him when she was living in Taloba. But if it looked like a Myrian, acted like a Myrian, and spoke like a Myrian, well, how could she mistake it for anything else?

She stretched her arms, too, simple stretches where she moved her arms into positions until she felt the tension. "So, push-ups first?" Ines asked, and copied the man's positioning when he got down next to her. Her legs were held together, with her weight resting on her toes, and she had her hands and arms placed slightly wider than shoulder width. The bat rarely felt fearful or worried being around people or things that were much larger than her. In this case, she was hopeful she could out-do him because of her smaller size. Eighty or ninety pounds was a lot easier to lift than however much he weighed... two hundred? Two-fifty? Sure, he had bigger arms, but she worked with elephants that were nearly twice her height, let alone weight. That had to count for something. The bat took pride in that she felt she was much stronger than she looked. It meant that sometimes people underestimated her, and that made her feel safe. She also felt safe knowing that at most times she could blow on her whistle and have elephants coming to her nearly anywhere in Syka, but that wasn't the point.

Maybe she had extra energy from her meal and her nap, but Ines finished her push-ups much more quickly than her challenger. The Kelvic had a smug look on her face when Quzon finished. "So, sit-ups next?"
