"So we're living in this mountain? Where will I get my sun from!?"

Kamilla rolled her eyes in response to Roo's questions, the talking plant had a habit of speaking before really thinking about what it was asking, like an excitable child who was learning about the world. She wondered if Roo was in any particular phase of its life, plants definitely had life stages so it wasn't out of the question. Perhaps Roo was only a child or teenager in plant years, it would certainly explain why the flower was unable to remain silent for more than a few chimes.

A sigh. "You'll get plenty of sun Roo… and Yen will have room to run around too… once I'm done." The cat sitting at her ankles meowed in response to hearing her name.

Roo laughed. An androgynous indescribable laugh that Kamilla had grown used to since acquiring the talking flower. "As if that lazy feline will do anything but sleep."

Honestly, she couldn't argue with the plant, the gray yowlwing was excessively lazy, though she seemed happy enough so it didn't bother Kamilla too much. Shrugging and stretching, she figured it was about time she get started. She was stood in front of her land claim, at the foot of a small mountain with an opening about twice her width before her. Herself, Yen and Roo were all vaguely familiar with the bat infested cave, they'd used it to survive the large storm that had hit Syka, along with Sophia and her tavan, earlier that season, though the dark, dingy and narrow crevasse was still far from livable, for the time being.

"I'm just going to tie Yen up here and leave you next to her… shout if you see anyone."

"Fine fine fine. I'll just be here… enjoying this amazing sun!" The talking flower really adored Syka's heat and sunlight.

Nodding, Kamilla glanced down at her hands, noting that the focus glyphs she'd drawn earlier that morning were still there. She cast one last glance towards Yen and Roo, both enjoying the sun, before stepping forward into the darkness of the cave, hearing a plethora of high pitched squeaks the moment she crossed why would soon be the threshold, dozens of bats annoyed at the intruder, though they did not move from their upside down perches.

"First things first. Get rid of the bats."

With a goal in mind, Kamilla ventured slightly deeper into the dark cave, painfully aware of the horde of winged rodents above her, though she was only uncomfortable with their presence instead of scared. According to her past experience, they were harmless.

Ready to begin, Kamilla took a deep breath, exhaling slowly as she felt the power within her pulsing beneath her skin, guiding it towards the focus glyphs on her hands where glistening liquid res began to pour from her palms. She gathered the magical substance into a dense gaseous cloud about twice the size of her head and pointed a finger in the direction of the only other hole in the cave, a thin vertical hole further upwards. The cave itself was not much more than a large vertical crack of a tunnel that traveled gradually upwards until it reached an open caverm above. The crack was wide enough that she could stumble her way up towards the other exit, but that was about it.

Finger pointed and ready to direct her res towards the opening far above, Kamilla's eyes lingered on the glistening cloud for a brief moment, realising that it may have been a waste to use such a large amount of her power just to scare off some unwanted guests. So, allowing the thick cloud of res to hover harmlessly above her, the mage began to gather a smaller amount in her lungs, taking a deep breath before exhaling a very powerful gust of wind that tore most of the bats from their precarious perches and send them gliding up and out of the distant exit.

When the gust had faded, only a handful of steadfast bats remained attached to the ceiling, though they seemed to realise the cave was no longer safe for them and flew off.

"Well, that's one problem delt with, the next is this awful stench." She supposed, growing up in Sunberth and having spent some time in Sahova, an entire citadel filled with living corpses, that the smell of bat droppings certainly wasn't the worst thing her olfactory organs had experienced, though it certainly wasn't pleasant.

This time she would make use of the dense cloud of res pulling a fourth of the cloud back to her before guiding the mass toward the entrance above and transmuting it to a mass of water which came flooding downward. Kamilla compressed the smaller orb into liquid and used it to exert a powerful pull on the water once it reached the bottom, gathering the foul mixture of dirt, poop and water into a very brown hovering ball which she carefully guided outside of the cave.

"Gross! What is that!?"

"Dirty water, Roo…" Her response was unenthusiastic, like a parent answering a child who'd asked the same question ten times before.

Another deep breath and Kamilla exhaled a thin mist of res which drifted into the hovering ball of brown liquid, freezing it solid before, with a flick of her wrist, the 'brown' ice was sent flying towards the nearby ocean, landing with a satisfying splash. She did not bother to see where it had landed, already returning to her cave.

Back in the, now empty and cleaner cave, Kamilla readied herself to begin the real heavy labour. She needed to open up the narrow upward slope that lead to what would be her home and she'd gotten some good advice on how to do it. The mage recalled her conversation with Duncan a few days prior, as a fellow reimancer who'd actually built something using earth, the man's insight was both welcome and respected. His advice for safely hollowing out a cave was to reinforce as she excavated.

"What did he say again? Build thick supporting arches out of a stronger kind of stone than the surroundings?"

She'd already decided on using the stone that the Undead Citadel was made out of. As odd as it may have sounded, she found herself missing the cool stone walls of Sahova from time to time, she hoped that it would help to counteract the consistent heat that plagued Syka.

Spreading her arms out at her sides to ensure that the tunnel would be a satisfactory width, palms upward and focus glyphs glowing, res began to pour out of Kamilla, gathering in the stone just beyond her fingertips, spreading out within the stone and in the next moment, the dark stone had been become a thick stone arch, the stone a warm smooth brown.

Satisfied with her work, Kamilla couldn't help but wonder how much work she could do in a day, realistically, considering her res reserves. She'd been using her reimancy quite a bit since she'd arrived in Syka and her limits had been stretched and expanded without a doubt, but it still seemed far you daunting a task to attempt to clear out an approximately two meter wide tunnel in one day… at least without any negative effects due to overgiving.

With her own wellbeing in mind, Kamilla figured that she would clear five meters of tunnel a day, which would take her approximately two or three days to complete the tunnel and staircase. She was pleased with this decision, as Duncan had also told her to space the support arches at regular intervals.

Plan in mind, Kamilla decided she'd take a break for the time being, stepping outside for a good half bell of relaxing and even having and slice of pie, one she'd retrieved from her magic pie cozy. A very convenient discovery. It seemed that the cozy created randomly flavoured pies, which made each meal something to look forward to, despite having been both pleasantly surprised and thoroughly disappointed on several occasions. This time the pie was an unfamiliar flavour, fruity, somewhere between an apple and banana, at least that's what it tasted like to her.

"Finally…" Kamilla's voice was filled with excitement as she made her way up the stone staircase to the plateau that would be home. It had taken her longer than she'd anticipated to clear out the tunnel and add stairs, she was eager to be done with the entrance to her new home and get started on the actual living part of her home. Days of feeding res into stone in order to convert that stone into air foot by foot, for approximately ten meters, had been far more boring than the mage could have imagined it would be. Monotony aside, Kamilla couldn't help but feel proud of how neat the finished product was, a neat stone staircase in a decently wide tunnel with a smooth stone supporting arches every two meters. It felt good to see the fruits of her labour layer out before her.

Reaching the plateau Kamilla placed a leashed Yennefer and a potted Roo neatly on the floor of the large stone cavern atop the staircase. Yennefer's leash was tied off to prevent any unwanted dash attempts, especially any that would send the cat plummeting off the open cliffside edge of the cave. Glancing at the feline revealed that she was watching Kamilla's tying intently. "I'm sorry Yen, but until you learn not to fly off into the deathly dangerous jungle, I can't leave you loose." The mage was forced to watch as the Yowling gave her, what she assume to e, the feline equivalent of an eye roll before settling in for a nap.

"This place looks good to me!"

Kamilla let out an amused chuckle, "I haven't started on it yet, Roo."

"You humans are so needy. There's sunlight and soil over there, there, the only thing missing is some water."

Kamilla simply shrugged in response, conceding to the talking flower's point. "I suppose you're right…" She left it at that, moving to the center of the large cavern as lavender res began to pour from her palms the way they had for the past five days. This time, she produced quite a large quantity, enough to coat the entire cavern in a thin film of liquid res, which she then converted into a smoother layer of stone, simply taking away the rough edges of the walls without detracting from its character.

Taking a break for good measure, Kamilla took a seat on a large sheet of black cloth she'd laid out for Yen to sleep on. "Now, I just need to find a spot for the storage room…" She'd already mentally mapped out the space and decided on wheat each segment of the cave would be, as well as ordered a load of wooden furniture to be delivered from Riverfall via The Veronica, for quite a hefty fee. Her home was coming along better than expected.

Half a bell later, Kamilla was back on her feet and glancing around the large cavern, deciding she'd put the entrance to the storage room, just left of the main entrance atop the staircase.

Once again, res began to pour from her palms, freshly drawn focus glyphs glowing on her hands as the lavender fluid gathered above them. She forced the res into the stone before converting the stone to air, leaving a doorway shaped depression in the stone. She would spend the day slowly hollowing out her storage room until she was satisfied with the size, her only condition being that it needed to be large enough to fit the large chest she'd been dragging around with her since Zeltiva, and several other things above that… about four by four meters seemed a reasonable size.

Yet another day had passed and Kamilla was sure that her new home was nearing completion, the mountain had been hollowed out to a sufficient size, the floor smoothed over and she'd even built a waist high boundary wall around the edge of the cliff, which doubled as her patio. The bulk of the work had been completed and all that was left to do were minor additions and adjustments that seemed to continuously come to mind.

One such addition was that of a chimney, she would need a fire in order to cool from time to time and didn't want to risk clouding her home with smoke if the winds weren't in her favour. First she'd try to find out just how far her cave was from the top of the little mountain, pushing her res upward into the stone on the right wall if her home, forming it into a fist sized cylindrical shape that reached up roughly two meters before transmuting the stone to air, a curious eye checking to see if the sky was visible.

Barely a tick had passed when, instead of seeing the sky Kamilla was given an eye full of icy cold water as it poured from the newly created hole, drenching the mage and pouring across the floor of her new home.

"You found the water!" came Roo's voice excitedly, while Yennefer urgently tried to pull herself free of the secure leash, petrified of the water that had already reached past her knees.

Still in a state of shock as she backed away to see her home being flooded after her mistake, realising there must gave been a small dream somewhere above, Kamilla pulled her wet hair out of her face, sending a ball of res upward to block the whole, using a different coloured stone, a loud sigh escaping her lips as the water stopped. "Petch… Sorry Yen." she added, moving to lift the equally soaked yowlwing out of the water. "That was unexpected, but potentially useful." Kamilla had figured she'd just have to create water whenever needed, because of the distance between her home and the settlement, this newest development provided her with a, much needed, solution.

The majority of the water drained itself, traveling down the stairs to her home, l across the cobbled road and onto the beach sand beyond. The water was gathered with reimancy before being discarded, after which Kamilla set to making a narrow stone 'pipe, which would direct the water nearer to the edge of her cave, blocking it with more stone. She would simply have to use her reimancy reimancy to remove and replace the stone stopper until she could think of a better solution.

The next day, Kamilla had found a better position for her fireplace, against the far wall, the left edge of the large open part of the cave that lead to the patio. Thankfully, it seemed the stream did not reach that end of the mountain. The hearth was given its own small dome like enclosure that housed it's chimney as well, she was satisfied with the end result. After that she'd finally hung the shimmering veil she'd discovered in the lower part of her cave when seeking shelter from the storm. After saying the word 'expand' the magic veil had slowly extended across the opening until completely separated the inside of her cave from the outside. The veil acted as a transparent barrier, resembling a large invisible wall that's only sign of existence was the subtle shimmer it gave off from time to time.

Currently, Kamilla was building herself a smooth stone bathtub, placing it near the edge of what constituted as the inside of her cave home. It had been a long time since the mage had been able to relax in a bathtub, using public quarters always posed the risk of someone seeing the hideous burn scar that covered her lower leg. She was looking forward to watching the ocean and sky from within her new tub.

Finally, it seemed her new home was complete, at least for the time being. Now all that was left was to wait for the furniture she'd ordered from Riverfall to arrive.

A Place To Call Home

Kamilla Circe Gordon

A few days had passed since the completion of her cave home and, to Kamilla’s frustration, she’d been told that there would be a delay to the arrival of her furniture as the Veronica wouldn’t have any space during this trip. It had initially seemed quite bothersome but then she’d finally received the quote for approximately how much it would cost… a ridiculous amount… turns out, the Veronica charged by weight… and few things were heavier than a house worth of furniture.

In the end it had been a blessing in disguise as it was suggested that she simply have her furniture built in Syka… there would still be a waiting period but the price would be far lower and it would still arrive far sooner than the expensive furniture that would eventually be shipped from Riverfall. In the end she conceded and placed the order for several things at the Mercantile… also deciding to remove something from her list, opting to build it herself.

Now that she’d given herself extra work, the mage was in her empty cave home, seated on the edge of the stone bath trying to envision where she would be placing her furniture once it finally arrived so that she could figure out where to place the counters. She decided that her bed would be on the right most side and therefore the counters for the kitchen section would be on the left.

Without much effort, glistening lavender res poured out of her palms and made its way toward the curved right most wall. She would simply fuse the surface which would be used as a counter with the stone of the cave, essentially creating a three meter long, slightly curved, floating stone counter top at just above waist height so she could place extra storage under it if need be. In comparison to everything else she’d done to create the living space, a three meter long and five inch thick stone counter was quite literally no challenge.

”Alright. That’s about it for now… what do you two think?” she called out, admiring her work, she really liked the warm smooth stone she’d decided upon.

”It's the same as it was before, except for whatever that is…” Was Roo’s comment. Yen simply meowed in agreement, to which Kamilla responded with a soft laugh. ”Well get used to it. This is home now… Home… she liked the sound of that.
