While Sylira is by far the most civilized region of Mizahar, countless surprises and encounters await the traveler in its rural wilderness. Called the Wildlands, Syliran's wilderness is comprised of gradual rolling hills in the south that become deep wilderness in the north. Ruins abound throughout the wildlands, and only the well-marked roads are safe.

The warm wind at his back, the sun rising over the horizon, and morning dew covered grass beneath his feet Vasin was making his way east. The Denvali Quarter to his back and the forest to his front as shadows began to pass over him. Trunks of trees beside him along with his always helpful Mule, Tack. Leading them he looked up through the trees and could see the rising mountains to his immediate north, the sun illuminating them and casting shadows down below. It was beautiful here, even this close to the city just outside of it. Then directly to his south, he could see it, the beach and ocean as the waves lapped against these scenic shores. 'This place truly has a different feel to it...' Vasin thought to himself as he continued walking with Tack. He had decided to make a day out of exploring the area to the east. The idea came to him the very moment Zeltiva came into view for him. Those mountains stretched all the way around Zeltiva, he was curious if they came to the beach itself.

He had been told that there was only one true pass through the mountains in Zeltiva, and that was to the north of the city connecting it to that road created by the Knights. But perhaps there was the possibility that hugging the shore could get you around? Or maybe a path yet unseen? He wasn't entirely sure, and plus he had heard Zeltiva was a city of explorers the moment he had arrived. It was still worth a look he figured as he walked along the forest edge and the edge of the beach. But he was noticing a gradual change... in both that the area became gradually rockier and the incline increased. 'Ah, that must be it then.' he thought to himself knowing that meant that eventually, it would increase to the point of being un-passable. Or so he was thinking until he became distracted. Tack was the first one to notice, their ears pointing towards the beach ahead and staring in that direction. Vasin sniffed it out next, the smell of smoke.

Peering up ahead through the trees and up the beach he saw smoke rising, a bonfire had been lit up ahead. With some caution, Vasin decided to approach, curious as to who was out here. So far yet so close to the city he came from the forest onto the beach and approached the fire. There was a ship parked on the beach, one look and it looked rather familiar. 'A Casinor?' he thought as he rested his hand against the handle of his blade. That meant one thing, a Svefra or a group of them were on the beach. Glancing over his shoulder to be sure no one was sneaking up on him he approached the beach campsite. Lying face up on the beach arms behind their head was a Svefra man. Perhaps in his thirties? His skin had a healthy tan and he was well toned. All he wore were tattered pants which were tattered and bright blue. His hair dirty blonde and unkempt he seemed to glance over to Vasin his piercing blue eyes meeting his own. Vasin stood there for a moment in silence, their eyes locked on one another, each trying to get a read on one another.

"You seem familiar... Like an old friend." the Svefra man said in a curious fashion leaning up on his elbow an eyebrow raised."I do not see how I don't think I have seen you before a stranger." Vasin said not trusting this person he just came across in the wilderness. It was probably some trick, like In Sunberth without a doubt. The man shook his head in disagreement."No, I get a feeling just from a look at you. You look like an old friend of mine to be certain, but that cannot be." the man said pondering it. 'How strange.' Vasin thought a distrustful look in his eyes."What is your name 'stranger'?" the man asked now sitting up against the window blowing through his hair."I am Vasin. I have come to explore the beached and forests here." Vasin said deciding to state his intent right away."An explorer huh? Common around here... but Vasin... Vasin..." he said twice thinking about that name."Oh! Now I know why! Vasin!" they said in sudden realization a smirk on their face."Your father was Silin, right? It has to be, you are his spitting image! More or less..." the man said now standing up.

The words that came from that man's mouth were a surprise... no, they were a kick right to his head and gut. Vasin was speechless, a variety of emotions were now welling up inside him."How do you know my father's name?!" Vasin said rather knocked off balance by the sudden revelation that this man knew who his father was."Why it's simple! I was on his little trade venture. I am Hone Deepseeker." Hone said introducing himself to Vasin who simply stared in disbelief."You..." the memory of this man was starting to come back, not just from his own memory but that journal his mother had left him."You were younger back then." Vasin said starting to recognize him."Indeed! But so were you!" Hone said with a deep belly laugh."Come! Join me by the fire. Any son of Silin is welcome to my bonfire. Plus bonfires are to be shared! Come come!" Hone insisted motioning for Vasin to come and take a seat by the fire with him.

After a moment of hesitation, Vasin followed gently leading tack along."Look at you! All grown up. You are a man now yeah?" Hone said plopping down onto the sandy shore. Vasin would lower himself to a sitting position across from Hone."I suppose so..." he said his brain trying to catch up with what this all meant. He had long thought that his father and everyone with him had died. Those days of looking out over the ocean constantly met with disappointment. But here Hone was with a jovial friendly smile."How is your mother doing? We all thought that the two of you were dead after that storm!" Hone asked though Vasin didn't speak for a moment. He did look to him after a moment, however, but the words were slow to come out."She's dead... Shes died... She was murdered in Sunberth." Vasin solemnly explained causing Hone's mood to shift a little."Oh... I'm sorry to hear that. She was a good mother ya know? Well uh..." Hone said starting to rub the back of his head."Is my father alive?" Vasin asked his eyes locked onto Hone his eyes now serious."Oh, your father? Well, you see..."

Vasin had been alone for so long, he thought his entire family died either in that raid and storm or had been stabbed to death on that pier. The dreams of that night had haunted him ever since, the dreams of that day on the pier haunted him even more. Spirits having taken advantage of that deep within him. He had thought the cord of fate between him and his family had been cut. Yet here he was, sitting here on the beach with Hone, a friend of his father all alive and well. Talking to him as if they had not been separated for years now. Vasin had lost hope of ever seeing anyone from that time in his life again. Sunberth had ground it out of him and made him try and put it behind him. But nowhere in this new place, the world had ripped it back to the forefront of his mind. It was difficult to remain composed. Perhaps visibly so as he intensely stared at Hone wanting that answer."Is he alive or not?" desperation and impatience on his voice as he leaned over a little. He had to know! He had to know now! Was his father alive! just say it you bastard! Enough of the beating around the bush! His mind was screaming for an answer.

"He is lad! He is!" Hone said waving his hands a little trying to motion for Vasin to calm down, which he did a little. Vasin breathed out a feeling welling up from within him."Where is he now?" Vasin asked straight to the point."Not here... he is in the Suvan Sea. But the thing is..." Hone began to trail off a bit uncomfortable."He won't want to see you." Vasin's heart sunk like a rock and all he managed to say was "What...?" he asked in disbelief."Now hold on! Now hold on! There is a perfectly good reason for it!" Hone said wanting to prematurely calm him."He's moved on, has a new family now. Or well... he has an old family... it's complicated... While your father was certain about your mother back then... when he couldn't find either of you and returned to the Suvan Sea and the person he promised himself to... he changed lad... he changed... you would just be a reminder of that." Hone was trying to explain as best he could."Are you saying... that my father... came to look for me and mother... gave up... and then moved on and pretended we didn't happen to all those back in the Suvan Sea?" Vasin felt another emotion rising up within him, or a mix of them. He felt sadness, disappointment, and anger all at once as his eyes stared piercing into Hone.

"Well uh... yes? I mean, that's not all..." Hone said knowing that Vasin was rather pissed, it was written all over his face."It also has to do with your parentage. You are part Vantha. When was the last time you saw winter?" he paused Vasin seemed confused."You father... has taken a disliking to Morwen and the Vantha. It would embarrass him if you suddenly just showed up out of nowhere. Not only as a sign of his... infidelity... but also undermine his current position. I'd say the only way he would want to meet you is if... well you became someone to be extremely proud of to the point that it outweighs both." Vasin stared at him in disbelief and anger."That cannot be true! None of it can!" Vasin said shaking his head unable to believe it."Listen lad it is true! You got to believe me. it's unfortunate... but it is true. If you went to him now you would not find the love you would hope for from him. He could easily just pretend you are a liar, and people would more than likely inclined to believe him. So I suggest you stay away."

"No, he cannot get away with trying to forget me and mother existed. I've had nightmares of that night, my greatest fear came to pass in that I've forgotten his face, and my mother's face other than her eyes are a blur. To me, they have become shadowy figures that memory and age have faded!" Vasin practically yelled which took Hone aback in surprise."I'm sorry to hear that lad... But you won't get any help from me in locating him. It will just hurt ya more then does good. Trust me, you are better off not meeting him anyways." Hone said trying to reason with Vasin."The man whom I idolized the memory? Who I so often compared to the likes of Kenabelle Wright? In my memory, my father was a brave explorer. It is what I have told my friends about him, what little I have told them. You tell me that he is different from that now, that he had betrayed me and mother's memory, and you expect me to not wish to confront him or to see if it is even true?" Vasin said pointing a gloved finger at Hone."Listen, kid... I don't know what you remember, but it wasn't like that. He wasn't just some fanciful explorer. He was a trader and pirate. His idea was to buy goods in Avanthal and other places along the shore that would be rare back home and make a hefty coin. Then what he couldn't get through purchase he would pillage from traders on the open sea. He got greedy during that storm. He may have been an explorer, but that was only in service of getting himself nice and wealthy for the pod. If you met him you would know that. The people you look up to are not always so idealistic."

"So kid, do us all a favor and just stay away." Hone said a serious tone to his voice growing tired of telling Vasin to stay away. Vasin responded by getting up and staring down at Hone."No, I don't think I will. Let me tell you what I am going to do." he said pointing at Hone."I'm going to be better than him. My goal is to explore this world, and while he was not a dedicated explorer as you said I will be one. Not only that but I will be far better at trade then he ever was. He won't want to meet me unless I am famous? My name all around the world? Fine, but when it happens I don't want to meet him until he begs." Vasin said caught up in the moment."I will follow not in his footsteps, but those of Kenabelle Wright. I will leave his name entirely out of it until he begs for forgiveness for his betrayal of me and mother." he said breathing out almost shaking. Hone stared up at Vasin wide-eyed and in surprised silent for a moment."Listen, kid, we both know that isn't going to happen. You are welcome to try. Make a name for yourself and all that. But it won't happen." Hone said standing up slowly dusting off his pants.

"The moment you enter the public eye people will start to ask questions, notice things, and soon enough will see your Vantha origins. You will never be able to rise to such heights." Hone said a smug smile on his face with a shrug."So best to not even try." he said glancing at Vasin as if challenging him."Oh, I am going to try, I am going to rise above that, and prove you and father wrong." Vasin said with utmost certainty in his voice."Ata boy! That's the spirit!" Hone said with a laugh."What... but didn't you just?" Vasin started to ask confused. Didn't he just tell him not to try? Not to try and find his father? Not to try a lot of things? What is with this sudden mood shift from the guy? He had gone from trying to be threatening to be jovial in an instant.

"Listen, lad, your father as I said has changed a great deal." Hone said with a raised index finger."He has become a shadow of his former self. Kinda turned into a real... lazy bastard. Those that survived that attack on the merchant ship don't think he changed for the better. We keep quiet about his romantic relations with your mother... but he has become a supreme hypocrite in regards to the Vantha." Hone said with a smirk on his face as he stared at Vasin."You are a spitting image of him from when he was great!" Hone said pointing at Vasin who seemed confused now."So those things you said..." Vasin began to ask only to be interrupted."They were a test lad! I wanted to see your conviction, determination, and willpower!" he said with a major laugh."That uttermost look of rage on your face! it told me all I needed to know about how you felt about him. Couldn't be talked down either at that moment." Hone said as Vasin breathed out rubbing the back of his head."I see. But why? Why put me through that trip of words?" Vasin asked the smirking Hone."I had to make sure that you have what it takes. I think you do if you put your mind to it. I'm sure if you follow through that the look on your father's face will be priceless!"

"Is everything you said about him true?" Vasin asked wondering if that had been a part of the test as well."Afraid so lad. Everything I said about him is true. Also, that as you are now that you shouldn't go to see him. I, on the other hand, am glad you survived your stint in Sunberth. A nasty place that is." Vasin forced an awkward chuckle."It sure was... But! It made me strong!" Vasin said glancing down only to feel a hand on his shoulder."No lad... it damaged you... you made yourself strong." Hone said an apologetic look on his face. Vasin said nothing as their eyes met and they stood there on the beach."You staying here long?" Vasin asked after a minute."Afraid not lad. I was going to leave tonight. Already been here too long. if you had come a day later we wouldn't have met. Our cords of fate have brought us together. Might bring us together again. But for now? Who knows." Hone said removing his hand from Vasin.

"Not sure that after what you told me I can say I am happy to have run into you. Might have been happier not knowing. But... thank you." Vasin said conflicted about all of this."It's an all right lad, I dropped a lot of truths on you right then and there. Come on though, join me next to the fire. We can share stories perhaps?" Hone asked with a now much more genuine smile."Sure... I think I'd like to." Vasin said taking a seat on the sandy beach next to Hone."So you want to go first?" Hone asked Vasin who partially smiled."Sure..." Vasin said thinking of a story to start with."Oh, I know..." Vasin said recalling it."It started when I was sitting at the docks... a book in my hand." Vasin said starting the story.
