The events in Lhavit this winter.

The Diamond of Kalea is located on Kalea's extreme west coast and called as such because its completely made of a crystalline substance called Skyglass. Home of the Alvina of the Stars, cultural mecca of knowledge seekers, and rife with Ethaefal, this remote city shimmers with its own unique light.

The winter is dry and warm, with clear, cloudless skies and not a drop of rain. The river runs low and food supplies begin to dwindle slightly, making festivals moderately less lavish than usual, but Lhavitians still find a way to celebrate in good spirits. The season is otherwise a fairly typical winter, full of festivals and blessed by shooting stars on and off throughout the season.

Overview of Season Events

☼ Daytime Event - ☾ Nighttime Event
☆ Moderated/Prompted Event

1st: The Watchtowers flare blue, announcing the arrival of winter.

☾ 12th: Multi-hued shooting stars streak across the night sky; they will be densest on the night of the 30th, but continue sporadically all season.

☾ 30th: The shooting stars are most frequent and dense on this night, and many gather at the observatory to view them.

☾ 46th: The Midwinter Festival is held once the sun goes down. Over the peaks, some people make an effort to find those who have nobody to celebrate with in order to invite them to their own celebrations; nobody should be left alone on such a night.

53rd: Liard and Tess of the Hunter's Guild hold lessons on foraging, open to anyone, in order to try and help lessen the stress of the food shortage caused by the dry weather; the lessons take place around the outskirts of the city.

61st: Aviakittis is celebrated all throughout the day and into the night; while just as lavish as any other festival, this day of celebration is more relaxed as Lhavitians honour their extra 'stolen' time in winter. All businesses except for bathhouses and restaurants are closed as people take time to relax and treat themselves and their loved ones. It is a much needed day of rest and relaxation for many people in the city.

88th: The Azure Festival takes place, beginning in the morning and lasting well into dawn of the next day; the temples are flooded with people during the day, and once the sun sets, the same crowds don their masquerade outfits, ready to dance and drink the night away.

92nd: Celebrations begin to welcome the New Year in, lasting well into the morning of the new season.

Theme of the Season: Overcoming Difficulty

What is an issue that your PC is struggling with? What is a difficulty or a problem they have been facing in their personal life? Find a source of stress, a problem, or a hurdle that is blocking your PC from achieving their goals. Perhaps a rival is standing in the way of a job. Maybe a loved one has passed away and they're struggling with grief. Maybe they're in love but can't confess for one reason or another. Perhaps they're having a religious crisis. The problem can be any one of your choosing, but it should have a significant impact on your PC; and if your PC doesn't already have a problem or an obstacle, then make one! Then focus on overcoming it.

The theme this season is about facing adversity and trying to overcome it. Your PC should struggle with what they are trying to overcome, and it should take effort to move past it. At the end of the day, though, whether they actually succeed or not is entirely up to you.

The main components to this theme are:
1) Identify the problem/difficulty
2) Establish how it affects your PC negatively and why your PC wants to move past the issue
3) Make an attempt to overcome the issue
4) Establish whether or not the issue has been overcome; show how overcoming or not overcoming the problem affects your PC

You can write about this theme at your leisure, or if you want a chance at potentially earning a prize come season end, you can sign-up for this theme by posting below. If you choose to do so, you must meet each of the above requirements. Each point should have a minimum of 1 thread dedicated to it, with the exception of 3), which should have a minimum of 2 threads dedicated to it (overcoming the issue), for a total minimum of 5 threads dedicated to the theme. If you are signing up, please check off the requirements as you go and provide thread links. At the end of the season, if anyone has completed the theme, I will award prizes.

Weather Throughout the Season

The season is exceedingly dry, and while warm, the temperature tends more to the mild side rather than actually being hot. There is no rain all season, and little to no clouds in the sky, with occasional mild breezes.

Seasonal Challenges

Complete 6 of these challenges to earn Lhavit's Seasonal Medal. A maximum of 3 challenges can be completed in a single thread, and if doing multiple challenges in a thread each one should consist of at least 800 words; that is, threads containing 2 challenges should be a minimum of 1,600 words, and threads containing 3 challenges should be a minimum of 2,400 words. Challenge Awards

Congrats on completing the challenge, Madeira! :) Below is the list of potential prizes, you have your choice of one of them.

Lost Objects Compass: A small, dingy compass that seems to have the needle stuck in one position. It only works if someone who is looking for something they have lost picks it up, at which time it will point in the direction of the lost object. The person must specifically be looking for this object, and they must own it and have lost it or had it stolen for the compass to work.

Earrings of Lie Detection: A pair of diamond drop earrings. When worn, the wearer's ears will tingle if they hear a lie being spoken. However, they will not know exactly what the lie is, only that one has been spoken. Technical truths or lies of omission do not count as direct lies and thus will not trigger the earrings. It is also prudent to take care in public settings, as the earrings may detect a lie picked up in someone else's conversation in the background.

Holy Symbol: An elaborate holy symbol of a deity of your choice. This symbol allows for the owner ask a single question of the deity in question that the deity will then respond to. However, the deity is under no obligation to answer truthfully, if they answer at all. After being used, the symbol cannot be used in such a manner again, and will simply be a decorative holy symbol. (Any use of a deity will, of course, have to be moderated. If you choose this prize, please contact me when you decide to use it).

Armband of Perseverance: An elaborate armband made of gold; when worn, the wearer feels stronger, more durable, and more confident. Wearing this armband grants a +10 to Endurance. Once per season, it can be used to double the wearer's physical strength for a full bell, however the wearer will be sore for several days afterwards and may suffer injury after the bell is up depending on what physical feats they attempted.

Crystal Lamp: A rough chunk of clear quartz crystal roughly 10 inches tall and 5 inches across. If the word 'Light' is spoken, the crystal will emit a gentle glow like candlelight that illuminates the immediate area; it is bright enough to see, read, and write by, and will fill the rest of a standard sized room with a dim light. Tapping the crystal once will change the colour it is glowing; it will cycle through standard, red, blue, green, and purple before back to standard. Speaking the word 'Off' will turn the crystal off.

Truth Tea: A small tin of black tea infused with lemon. When someone drinks a cup of this tea, for the next bell they feel compelled to tell the truth. NPCs and PCs should roll Resolve against the tea; they must beat a 50. If a roll beats this number, then the NPC/PC is not obligated to tell the truth. Even if the roll does not beat this number, the effects of the tea might be avoided by clever wording and technical truths. The tin contains enough tea for 20 cups.

Let me know what you've chosen by posting here, and I'll update your SS accordingly. As always, magic items cannot be sold or otherwise given away.

Oh the choices!

I'll take the Truth Tea, please. I can think of a few PC's I'd like to use it on. >:)

Thanks for giving me the motivational push to finally finish that plot. This was a lot of fun!
