Taloba, home to the Myrians, is the thriving core of Falyndar. Inhabited by a fierce and savage tribe where blood sacrifices are normal and a way of life, they are untamed and proud of it. Warlike, and with their numbers growing, the Myrians are set on reclaiming what is rightfully theirs. [Lore]

Seyp gave a slow nod, the rain having drenched his body thoroughly now, causing the muscle along his frame to tighten up. It may have been the heat of summer, but the rains still carried a coolness to them. “I imagine. It would be the first time that Myri would have spoken directly too me as well. If it wasn’t in extreme disappointment, then that in itself would make my passing not thoroughly feel like my life was wasted.” Seyp replied as his hands slicked back his hair once again. “I shall make my way to your shop strait after the course runs have concluded. Or perhaps even after my run, if you’ve felt you’ve had your fill of viewing them.”

“Flashy I can avoid.” Seyp said, looking over the course, still studying it intently. “I don’t think I have the physical skill to even attempt to be flashy anyhow.”

Seyp then pushed himself back away from the railing as he made a quick turn. “Well then, I am off to run my course. Shouldn’t take to long before I hit the safety net.” Seyp then said, giving a slight nod to Sulas. “I will confer with you later, so you can tell me where my mistake was made, and then we can discuss that trade. Elder Sulas.”

With a momentary farewell given to his mentor after his parents had passed, Seyp made his way towards the line that would lead him on his run along the course.

The Rain Festival [Open]

Postby Siiri on January 12th, 2011, 1:00 pm

Testing her weight against the rope vine to see if it would snap (it didn't), Siiri planted a booted foot on the leaf-covered ramp to see if she could walk up to it while pulling herself up (she couldn't). Left with no other choice, she ignored the ramp entirely and just pulled herself up the rope with her arm strength alone. Because the rope followed the angle of the ramp, she ended up with her back brushing against the slippery leaves as she climbed the rope hand over hand. Powerful biceps strained with each heave, contracting to show her toned muscles. Siiri knew she would regret using such a technique later, for pulling one's own body weight up using only her arms was very tiring. It was the fastest way to clear that particular obstacle however, and she continued without qualms.

She was up in mere seconds, and she now faced the balance beam maze. Elevated at a height, one could easily see which balance beam went to where - those that were leveled out flat, at least. There were other beams that slanted up or slanted down depending on where the competitor was coming from, and those were much harder to see. Rather than diving straight into it, Siiri took a moment to plot the course she could take, choosing a path where she would only walk on the even planks. The act proved fruitful, for while she thought she took a bit longer, she at least avoided the angled beams, which looked difficult to climb up or slide down to since they were rather slippery.

At last she got back down to the ground, only to find herself gazing up once more as she realized she was to climb again: the rope net obstacle was before her.

"Great," Siiri muttered, before throwing herself to the task of muscling her way up once more.

The Rain Festival [Open]

As Siiri ran the obstacle course, Miharu ran with her, though her feet never moved. She watched her bondmate with eyes and mind, catching snippets of thought that drifted across the bond as the woman tried to figure out how best to tackle each part of the track. There were things that Siiri did that she wouldn't be able to do, hadn't the skill to do quite frankly, but she would figure something out.

She watched as Siiri planned out the route through the balance beams, and she had almost memorized it when a sharp jolt brought her back to her own body. "Deyhan!" a woman was yelling, motioning her to take her place beside the other Myrian who was already waiting. Without even realizing what she'd intended, she snarled and snapped her teeth at the offender's receding hand. "I am a Myrian!" she growled, golden eyes narrowing as she stared down the other woman and stepped up to the line.

She reached down and grabbed a handful of mud, slopping it against her skin all the way up to her thighs on both legs, then ran her still-muddy hands over her soaked blond hair. The mud slicked it back and kept it from escaping the braids that held it back. She was having a hard time seeing through the rain, made even more difficult since her eye was still blackened and swollen. But she straightened as the woman raised an arm, tensing in preparation.

Then the arm dropped, and she was off. Bare feet handled the mud better than booted ones would have, her toes digging into the muck and spreading out her weight without the dragging feeling that shoes gave. She ran strangely, though, in leaps and bounds, almost daintily on the balls of her feet. The mud she'd spread over herself kept what stuck to her now from distracting her with its slimy touch, and in just a few heartbeats she reached the hurdles.

She went sailing over the first ones, likely more gracefully than she realized, but she'd had to leap and dodge over more than a few Talderan-sized tree trunks in her day. The seven-foot-tall hurdle was taken much the way Siiri had, with a flying leap so she could catch herself on it and haul her body over it, though she jumped higher than Siiri had and was able to catch it under her armpits rather than with her hands - but then there were a few scrambling seconds where her feet slipped and slid against the netting beneath the hurdle before her toes finally caught on and dug into the vines. With a few annoyed grunts, she hurled herself over and fell to the ground on the other side.

Landing, of course, had never been her most graceful endeavor. She didn't really know how to land, but she knew how not to hurt herself when she fell. So instead of ending up on her feet, she twisted and hit the ground on her good shoulder, rolling harmlessly in the mud and then back upright. But now, of course, she had mud stuck in places she'd rather not think about, and the stupid skirt was twisted around her, and she could hear people yelling from the crowd and she'd no idea if they were yelling encouragement or insults but it was getting on her nerves. And her shoulder hurt, dammit.

With another sharp growl of frustration, she ripped at the knot holding the skirt on, forgetting in her heightened state whatever reason she'd had for letting Siiri put it on in the first place. She was too much the wolf now, too much the animal, and the course was her enemy and her prey. She would defeat it, take it in her teeth and shake the life from it, and she could do that with a stupid piece of mud-sodden blanket shoved up the crack of her ass.

The jeers from the crowd turned instantly into whoops and catcalls, but for some reason that bothered her less - it sounded like the manic birdsong in the jungle instead of just a babble of voices, and she looked up at the final tall hurdle with new resolution in her eyes. "I come for you!" she snarled, grinning madly, and launched herself at the final hurdle.

She didn't try Siiri's little double-kickoff manuever, knowing good and well she'd never pull it off. Instead, she simply flung herself at the tangle of net beneath the hurdle and climbed up it. It was slippery, and made to hinder instead of help, and she was cursing soundly when she finally, finally managed to reach the top crossbar. Had she been aware of things like time limits (or even, really, the passage of time) in her current state of mind, she would have known that this little strategy cost her precious minutes, but all she cared about was making it.

She clambored over the top of the hurdle... and then looked down at the mud that lay nine feet below her, and felt a surge of fury. It was too far! She would hurt herself. Gods damn it. With another growl, she swung her legs over the edge, catching her toes in the net once more, and began the slow process of shimmying down it a few precious feet until it was safe enough to jump. Then jump, twist, splat! roll, and she was back in more familiar territory.

She cleared the last few hurdles without much difficulty, although she slipped on her landing for the last one and wiped out, slapping face-first into the mud, and felt as if her eye would explode right there. But a moment later the pain receded enough for her to move again, though by no means disappeared, and she clawed her way back up to her feet without waiting for it to.

Next came the vine wall, and she cringed as she stepped up to it. She had never really climbed a rope before, but she remembered the men in her village climbing up to the deer-blinds when she was a child. It looked similar, but the gods only knew if she could manage it.

She pulled herself up with her arms much as Siiri had, giving a sharp cry of pain as her shoulder let her know that it was not ready to support all of her weight, thankyouverymuch. Almost immediately, she lifted her feet off the ground and caught the rope between them, letting her weight sit on her feet instead of in her arms. Then she began to slowly make her way up it, feeling her bare back and buttocks sliding not-unpleasantly against the slick leaves of the ramp.

When she finally hauled herself up to the top of the ramp, her shoulder ached fiercely and she could feel every throbbing heartbeat reverberating beneath the skin of her face. She was in pain, and she was tired, and she hated everything ever. But she wasn't done. So she stopped for a breath and looked out over the balance beams. She found the ones that Siiri had taken, and she took only a moment to check that all the mud from her feet had been left behind on the rope, and then she was off again.

The balance beams were taken a little faster, for she was much more sure of where her feet were and how she could place them. The beams were no more slippery than rocks in a river, and she'd danced across those many times. She was feeling terribly confident about the whole thing, and managed to make up some of her time - until a streak of lightning through the sky caught her off-guard and she balked. Her feet slid out from under her, and she landed half-on and half-off the beam, clutching it as if it were the only thing saving her from a grievous death. She panted, hugging the beam tightly until her heartbeat steadied, and then she slowly began climbing back up to her feet. That, it seemed, was harder than it looked, and it took three tries for her to make her way back upright.

When she got to the end of the last beam and back on solid (sorta) ground, she just leaned over and put her hands on her knees, catching her breath and refusing to even look at whatever fresh hell was waiting for her.

The Rain Festival [Open]

Postby Siiri on January 21st, 2011, 11:51 pm

Siiri threw herself bodily on the rope net, springing on her toes at the last instant to grab for the highest point she could reach and pulled herself up. The hemp rope, soggy like bread left too long on top of a bowl of stew, seemed to sag down with her rather than pull her up. The Snapping Jaws warriors reached higher and pulled herself up once more, using her upper body strength to do so. It hurt now to flex her arms, having exhausted herself earlier at the leaf climb. But it was the good kind of pain, the type she felt after a punishing workout, a routine she always went through in the army. To ease some of the pressure on her arms, she set her feet below her on the net. That only served to make the net sag even lower than before.

In frustration, Siiri tensed and, with a snap, propelled herself upwards, hands grasping for a part of the net a bit higher than where she had been before. Or at least she tried to. It still didn't accomplish much; it was as if she was an arrow shot off from a loosely strung bowstring. Worse, her left hand missed grabbing for the net and shot through empty air instead, unbalancing her. Her face slapped against the heavy rope and, with her momentum, it left a welt the size and contour of the braided hemp across her face.

"Skurak!" she spat in disgust as she realigned her grip and proceeded to just pull herself up normally. Her arms burned from the strain and she considered taking a moment to rest herself right there and then, hanging on the rope net like a spider on its web as she relaxed for a few moments. Eena's unspoken challenge earlier surfaced in her mind however, and it was enough for her to discard her initial impulse. She knew she would kick herself for days if she lost to the Swooping Talons whelp. Growling now, and with renewed vigor, Siiri resumed her climb, stretching herself as much as she could to get the most of every pull, for indeed it felt to her like she was pulling the rope net down towards her rather than pulling herself up.

Eventually, Siiri reached the top, her arms tight from all that effort and seemingly slow-moving in her eyes. She massaged each of them as she surveyed the next obstacle before her - the "island hop", as the competitors unofficially called it - even walking up to the edge of the platform she was on to see the long drop below should she lose her balance on the one of the discs, or "islands", set upon the poles.

Just don't look down, she told herself, steeling her eyes on the other end of the obstacle, where the monkey bars were.

Taking a running leap, Siiri cleared the gap between platform and the first disc easily. As she stepped on the disc however, she locked her ankle - a costly mistake. In doing so, she tried to halt her momentum, but instead her foot slipped on the disc. Siiri knew she was going to fall. She tried to twist aside, to avoid the pole entirely, but she had carried herself too far forward with her jump. As she fell, her body became parallel with the ground, and the disc clipped her on the kidney on the way down to the safety net below. Siiri cried out, paralyzed in her pain. She bounced this way and that as she finally hit the net.

For a moment, Siiri just lay there, unmoving, trying to will the pain in her side to go away. It didn't. The pain felt as if someone stuck one of her own serrated daggers on her side, with the teeth of the blade biting through her insides whenever she tried to move. She knew she shouldn't be surprised later on if she actually peed blood. But all that didn't matter right now, not her pain, certainly not the damage her internal organs might have suffered from the fall. More than anything at that moment, she wanted to win the Quoalelye or, at the very least, not lose to Eena's nephew.

Because Siiri hated losing.

Doing her best to ignore the throbbing pain on her side, the Myrian warrioress crawled out of the safety net and returned to the rope net, taking on the arduous climb once more, and this time her movements were hampered by her injury. Siiri winced out whenever she stretched her injured side to reach and pull herself up. But that didn't stop her from climbing back on top of the platform. This time, she changed her strategy in traversing the "islands", just letting her momentum carry her forward until she reached the end. There were a few close calls where she almost slipped again, but she would bounce on her toes to throw herself towards the next disc in line until she found herself facing the monkey bars.

Moving across the monkey bars was easy enough, though the pain on Siiri's side felt worse because she was fully extended the whole time. The sensation was akin to having a tendon overextended and just at the threshold before the limb would break. It was excruciating. Siiri would grimace every time she reached for the next bar. But that particular obstacle wasn't that long, only about several meters in total length and Siiri cleared it in no time.

She was near the end at last, facing the last obstacle. It was similar to the "island hop" obstacle and there were only three round platforms this time and they were very much larger than those "island" discs. But they were rotating, in a different direction as the next, and the gap between each were much wider than in the "island hop". A light jump wouldn't clear the distance, one had to take a running leap to get to the next. The difficulty of doing so was compounded by the platforms' rotation, and if one missed in their jump, they might smack against the wooden planks sticking out of the platforms as well as deal with a fall down in the mud. Climbing back up would take too much time. Siiri knew she had to clear the whole thing in one try to get a decent time out of her run of the course.

Backing up a little, Siiri dashed forward and leaped at the end of the platform. With her long legs, she cleared the gap easily but as with the island hop course, as soon as her leading foot landed, her ankle twisted to the side as her foot followed the rotation of the round platform. She lost her balance and fell on her rump. Worse still, because her momentum has not yet played itself out, she spun with the turn of the platform and she ended up getting thrown over the edge of it. It was fortunate that she caught one of the wooden planks with one of her flailing arms and she hung there for almost half a turn of the platform as she struggled to reposition herself to be able to climb back up.

It was difficult. With nothing to plant her feet to but air, Siiri had to use her upper body strength to pull herself up once more. There was nothing to grip but the edges of the plank and the platform itself so she had to inch her way back up to the platform slowly so that she won't unbalance herself as the platform spun its lazy turn. Eventually she got one leg up over the edge and she was able to get back up immediately.

Wasting no more time, she leaped on to the next platform, aiming herself to land a little bit to the side where the direction of the rotation was coming from. This time, as soon as her feet hit the deck, Siiri threw herself down, spreading her arms and feet wide to catch the edges of the platform so that she looked like a Myrian pinwheel as she spun with the platform. She scrambled back up and did the same for the third and final platform.

Siiri cleared that as well and then there was just the vine to swing herself to the other side to reach the finish line. Pulling it taut, Siiri swung herself forward, not even bothering to land on the platform but instead timing it so that when she released her grip from the vine, she landed on the leaf-covered slide on her chest. It deposited her face first into the thick mud. She didn't mind for it allowed her to scramble on all fours towards the finish line. Cross it she did, falling on her knees as she did so.

The whole run was exhausting and Siiri alternated between taking deep, labored breaths and opening her mouth to gulp down water from the heavy rain. She wasn't sure how long she took with her run, and she didn't even know if she cleared it before or after her opponent as she couldn't find the person nearby. All she knew as she turned to regard the obstacle course was that Miharu was running through it.

And the girl was naked.

The Rain Festival [Open]

Miharu finally straightened up just in time to see the person she was running the heat with go streaking past her and up to the rope net. And then she watched him climb about three feet in the air before he became much slower, and seemingly more tired, and after only about thirty seconds he had to stop to just hang there on the net panting heavily.

The wolf-girl stared around her, then back at the net. Finally she moved over to the right side of the net, right up where it was tied to the wooden poles, and began her climb. It kept the net from sagging too much (since it didn't have much slack) and when she stopped about a third of the way up to catch a breath, she could lean her head against the pole and feel just a smidgen better about the whole thing.

It took what she thought was forever to make her way up the rope. Her right shoulder felt like it was on fire, and by the time she finally managed to heft herself over the top and onto the platform, she was pretty sure she was crying but she was too tired to tell. She just lay there a moment, letting the rain pelt her body until she felt her feverish skin cool and her breathing even out a little.

I can't do the bars, she thought, and Siiri would be able to send a deep thrum of despair thread across the bond, an awful admission of weakness that Miharu was ashamed to even make. Her shoulder would dislocate again, and that would be the end of that. There was little else she could do but give up.

She stared up at the stupid monkey bars, rain still pelting her face and obscuring her already blurred vision. "Petch it," she muttered, then rolled over and shoved up to her feet. She would make it through this at least. As far as she could go, and they could drag her off if they wanted to.

With that, she made her way over to the monkey bars and, instead of grabbing the first one and dangling by her hands as she was meant to do, she hefted herself up on top of them and began slowly crawling her way down to the next level.

The Rain Festival [Open]

Postby Siiri on January 26th, 2011, 1:52 am

Siiri forgot her irritation at Miharu's unintentional nudity as soon as she sensed pain coming from the Kelvic. The girl had just cleared the rope net and then just lay on the platform, unmoving. Shame and a sense of surrender flooded through the bond they shared, Miharu's private emotions becoming her own.

It's her shoulder, the Myrian thought, rightly concerned. Involuntarily, she took a step forward, as if to assist her bondmate, or at least offer encouragement. As soon as she realized what she was doing she held herself back, reminding herself that she would just hamper Miharu's growth as an individual if she was always there to pull her up when she was down. Despite the girl's inherent need to have someone to depend on - her, Siiri, specifically - the Myrian wanted her to be able to handle herself in any situation, to trust in her abilities.

"Don't give up! Get up! Get up! C'mon!" Siiri muttered under her breath, hoping that Miharu would perceive her sense of urgency. She had moved off to the side where the spectators were, to get an unobstructed view of the course.

At last Miharu struggled to her feet, staggering forward like a drunk. But to everyone's surprise, instead of going through the monkey bars as anyone normally would, the girl climbed up the obstacle's frame and crawled on top of the bars. Behind her, Siiri heard several people protest Miharu's course of action.

"Hey, what is she doing? Can she do that? Is she allowed to do that? Get her off of there!"

Siiri turned, glaring at the speaker, a male from the Blooded Fangs clan. "Nobody said she couldn't do that," she growled. "Now why don't you shut your trap, kotakbil, before I do it for you?"

The similarities between the scar running down Siiri's left eye and the design of the tattoo of the pale-skinned girl running the course clued the man on the relationship between the two. he held up his hands, backing off a bit, pulling his friend beside him. The other man was gawking up at Miharu's naked form however.

"The petch are you staring at?!"

The other spectators surrounding them backed off from the trio, most of them chuckling at the predicament of the two males, who both mumbled some sort of excuse before moving off to watch from a different part of the crowd. With a snort, Siiri turned back to watch her bondmate's progress.

The end is near, keep going! she urged through the bond even though she knew Miharu could not hear her words. Her lethargy was gone; Siiri felt pumped up once more as if she was running the course once more, this time beside Miharu. She wanted the girl to finish the course even if she could not beat the person she was running it with.

The Rain Festival [Open]

Postby Miharu Mindi on January 26th, 2011, 3:50 am

OOC NoteI just realized I skipped one of the parts, so I'll edit my previous post to make her go through that. Sorry!

The pale girl heard the yells of the crowd, and though she was too high up to decipher what they were saying, their tone was enough to let her guess. "If you don't like it, come and get me,"
she muttered under her breath. "Otherwise, shut up."

She crawled her way down all of the bars, and then jumped down onto the platform that indicated she'd finished it. She stood there a moment, stretching her arm to see how it was holding up, and when she looked down at the throng below her, she saw her bondmate standing just a little in front of the crowd, watching her closely. She felt a thrum of encouragement, and turned back to the next part of the course with a renewed sense of determination.

All she had left were the spinning disks and the rope swing. She could do those. The worst part, the part that endangered her shoulder, were over. It was all pretty much either falling or not falling from here on out.

Miharu watched the way the platforms turned, noting their speed and direction, just stood and stared at them for a few moments. Had anyone ever tried to sit the girl down and teach her the basics of physics and the laws of speed and momentum, she would have stared at them like they were insane and likely bitten them for good measure. Which didn't mean she wasn't capable of understanding things like speed and momentum - she just didn't give a damn about mathematical abstracts and explanations of why.

Jumping, it's all about jumping, she thought. That one would sling her forward, and the other would try to sling her backward, and the other was angled to dump her in the mud instead of on the platform. Okay. She could do this.

She shimmied over to the left side of the platform and eyed the spinning disk one more time as if to threaten it into compliance. Then she pranced forward and lept.

Miharu landed on the first disk for only a moment, her feet sliding on it much as it would have on ice, and she struggled to keep herself upright even as the momentum of the wheel's turning slung her forward and towards the next platform. She managed to keep herself together long enough to hurl herself onto the next platform...

Only to go careening over the side as if she'd suddenly sprouted wings. She gave a garbled shout of surprise, and then tumbled end-over-end until she landed hard in the pool of mud below the course.

"I hate this," she mumbled, annoyed and furious now at this stupid obstacle course. How was this a measure of a man's worth? It was just a series of things designed to hurt you. Nothing to gain from it, just punishment after punishment, no skill involved just the ability to keep getting the shyke kicked out of you. "Stupid, stupid, stupid," she growled, hauling herself back up to her feet. But Siiri wanted her to do this, and Siiri had done it. So she would too.

She looked around for a way back up, and saw one ladder going to the beginning platform and one going to the end, skipping the spinning disks entirely. "Oh yes, that works," she thought, the first piece of luck she'd had this whole stupid course. They wouldn't have a ladder there unless they wanted you to use it, right? It must be an option, skipping this part. Probably better than watching people fall in the mud for hours at a time.

She shooked some of the mud from her arms and held them up to the rain, and once her hands were free of the slippery mess she set them to the spikes of the pole leading up to the final platform and carefully made her way up it. She mostly held on with her left hand, letting her right one relax a little and recover, though that wore out her other arm more quickly. Her feet slipped a few times, but she hung on, and after a minute or two she topped the platform and crawled up to her feet.

"Almost done," she whispered, staring at the rope that hung limp and waiting for her. Yep. Almost done.

She grabbed onto the rope and pulled it closer, looping it around her left arm and catching her left foot in it as well. "Okay. Okay, here we go." And with that, she kicked off and swung across towards the vine-slide.

She glided gracefully through the air - for about two seconds. Then she untwisted her arm and foot, and made to drop to the platform below... only, her foot caught in the rope, and instead of jumping and landing on her feet, she was jerked suddenly and, with a scream of surprise, landed head-first on the platform with a sickening thud. The momentum of her fall sent her crumpled body spinning over the edge and down the vine-slide as she'd hoped to do upright, but she sprawled in the mud at the bottom of it in heap of pale limbs and blood-spangled hair.

She lay there a moment before a pale hand appeared, and she groaned and started straightening herself out. Her vision was spangled, and she couldn't quite get her brain to work. What had she been doing? The hand reached up to touch her head, and when she drew it back her fingers were slicked with blood for a moment before the rain washed even that away. There was a rather nasty gash looping from just behind her left temple around behind her ear where she'd cracked her head against the platform. "I brained myself," she muttered, rolling over and up onto her knees before swooning and collapsing again.

Blood dripping from their lips
And teeth sinking into heart

The Rain Festival [Open]

Postby Siiri on February 9th, 2011, 1:29 pm

Did she just pass out?! Siiri wondered incredulously, staring at the unmoving form of Miharu lying in the mud.

The warrioress drew as close as she could to the prone Kelvic without passing over the line that separated the spectators from the obstacle course and called out to her. Miharu remained unresponsive. As a last resort, Siiri looked inwards, feeling for her through the bond they shared. Miharu was there but her connection with her was fuzzy. The sensation was comparable to having a dark colored veil over her head. It was a strange feeling, the first time she's experienced it.

Madini, she's out. Noticing the crowd of men around her, she grimaced. And naked.

Siiri stepped over the dividing rope and moved to gather her bondmate. It was obvious that the girl would not be getting out of the Quoalelye by her own volition. An arbiter moved to intercept her, to tell her that assisting the participants were against the rules perhaps, but Siiri shot him a glare so menacing that he stopped even before he got two steps near her.

The constant pitter-patter of the rain on Miharu's body had begun to wash off the mud covering her naked form. Siiri's lips grew into a thin line as she considered the girl's stubbornness. You just had to run the course, she thought to herself, grousing. But there was no help for it; what's done was done. And whether she admitted it or not, she loved Miharu regardless.

Picking up one of Miharu's limp arms, Siiri dragged her bondmate in the direction of the barracks. She allowed the Kelvic to get thoroughly covered with the mud once more before stooping down and bodily hauling the girl up to her shoulder like a sack of potatoes. Miharu's bare bum was exposed then for all the world to see but it was smeared with a thick layer of mud and that was enough for Siiri. No male should look any longer than they already had at what was hers.

And it would be an excuse at least to spend some time washing Miharu clean in the bath.

OOCI think Miharu and I are done here (unless she wants to post one last time, which is cool). Not sure too, but I think Seyp is the only remaining active character among those who haven't finished the course yet.
Apologies to everyone I'm threading with, but it's like the Danaides for me right now.

The Rain Festival [Open]

Postby Satu on February 10th, 2011, 5:25 am

The dancers spun within the circle. Around and around their bodies jerked and pounded to the heavy beat of ferocious drummers. Satu’s hand was still extended outwards into the circle where she could feel their breeze as jubilant Myrians rushed past. She needed the dancers! Needed to touch them! To experience their movements! A smooth hand reached out from the crowd of half clothed bodies, to clasp her own and pull her into the circle. The Konti was unbalanced for a few seconds as she joined in the unorchestrated mayhem. A wicked grin met her own as she was immediately swallowed into the crowd of dancers of all shapes and sizes. Satu tried to find Oni in the crowd as she moved past, craning her neck first one direction and then another. But everyone moved too fast and her with them. Adrenalin filled them as they danced to Makutsi and to the Rain Festival. Joy of the Dance! These feelings carried her around the circle, with pounding feet. Estatic! Free! Her body become the rhythm of the drums, and her Heart matched its loud beat. Blood thrummed in her views! Her feet stomped in the mud, with her pale upturned face lifted into the Rain, She stood out among them, the Dyhan, but no one cared. She bent low at the waist, her arms pumping to the beat, hips shifting left then right. She almost tumbled into another dancer, in the slickness. But dark arms lifted her and set her on her feet. Not one cared who she was in this moment, they were one body, with many movements. And to Satu they moved as one Heart. Joy! And Joy! Each pass around the circle she made, the more release she felt. She was one with them. They were the Dance and the Rain, the water filled them. Satu knew more than most what that meant. Water! How she missed it. Let it rain. Let it rain forever! Makutsi! The abandon with which she danced was so strong that the wet braids began to come loose and stick to her face and back. And her feet were muddy and her ankles coated in blackness. The smell of leather, and of bodies filled the air. Satu never wanted to stop!
