Basic Information

Race: Human (Denvali)
Birthday: 91st Spring, 491 A.V.
Gender: Male

ImagePhysical Description
Seodai is tall and lanky, too skinny to make his lean frame very intimidating in most circumstances. He has sandy blonde hair and blue eyes, and pale skin that almost takes on a bluish tint, especially in the deepest throes of winter. Because of his thinness, perhaps, his facial features are quite defined and are likely his most attractive quality.

Character Concept
Seodai is kind-hearted, despite the fact that a lack of social skills leaves him seeming a bit surly. His parents isolated him a great deal throughout much of his childhood, so he has precious few he could call friend. He knows all of the locals by name, and catches enough gossip to tell you a great deal about each of them, but the number he has actually conversed with more than once would be low indeed. He spends most of his time at work, because it is his passion as much as his job, and his free moments are often spent in quiet leisure. He alternates his time between his uncles home and that of his parents, with frequent visits to Master Jarret, who still keeps him healthy and whole. He likes to laugh, adores sweets, and dislikes wine. He can be a bit skittish, because the most simple of injuries could mean the end for him. He isn't overly zealous in religion, but his faith gravitates more towards Bala than any other source. He can see the literal impact of her blessings in his life, and thus is more inclined to exercise his appreciation. He is generally content, if sometimes awkward in his own skin, and pleased enough to be good at what he does.

Character History
Seodai was born as the second child, and only son. His sister was incredibly feeble, and he was scarcely walking by the time she passed away. His father was absorbed with his work, consumed with forging metal into useful weaponry, and other such things. He provided little comfort or support to Seodai's mother who, having lost one child, became insanely protective over the living son she had left. When she began to make an enormous deal over the frequent bruises that began appearing on his pudgy little legs, Seo's father dismissed it as her paranoia. It wasn't until Seodai was four, lurking in his father's shadow as the man worked, that the reality of the situation became vividly apparent. Being as curious as all children are, Seodai grabbed a sharp blade. His small hand was cut somewhat deeply, but his father assured him that it would heal up in no time. He wrapped it tightly in a cloth, and went back to his work. Soon the cloth had been soaked through, and then another. By the time his father was worried enough to hurry home with his son, Seodai was feeling light headed and weak. His mother, of course, fell into near hysterics over the state of her baby boy. And so it was upon his father to take the still bleeding child into the chilly night, to seek the help of the physician. Master Jarret had calmly assessed the situation, and a day or so later they had left with a much better understanding of why they had lost their daughter all those years before, and of the complex life Seo would have to live. With blood that refused to clot, everything suddenly seemed dangerous, and more complicated.

His father was still determined that Seodai would learn his art, become a blacksmith like his old man, and take over someday. He insisted that they take special precaution, with extra layers added to his young son despite the stifling heat. Seodai, however, was trapped in a world of conflict. Everything about life urged the child to experience the world around him with a hands-on zeal, but his parents were consistently holding him back, cautioning him, smothering him with concern. And, despite their best efforts, he still fell. He still managed to get bruises that turned to hematomas and had to be drained. And, worst of all, he still managed to get several bloody gashes that sent him back to Master Jarret who, at some point, became like a second uncle to the little boy who understood, however abstractly, that he owed his life to the doddering old man.

When his education began, his father determined to pry him away from the rambunctious young boys who seemed to consistently send him home with injuries. Instead, he forced his son to come along with him as he worked, attempting to lay the foundation for his future. Seodai hated every moment he spent in the noisy forge, and would often sneak away while his father was most occupied. His favorite place in the world was only a short distance away, the precious parcel of land that his uncle owned. Seo preferred being outdoors in the sunlight to the small, dim confinement of his father's profession. More than the freedom he found dancing around his uncle's feet, he loved the sense of accomplishment he felt when he helped nurture a tiny seedling into something more, something so full of life, so valuable in the wretched terrain. And so it was that, without even realizing it, his childhood became an apprenticeship. He was isolated from his peers for many of those years because his parents couldn't relinquish their fears, and so he spent every spare moment with his hands in the dirt. At some point his father begrudgingly came to terms with the notion that his son had no intention of following in his foodsteps. Seodai tried to please him in everything, such as becoming skilled with a bow in lieu of a sword rather than shying away from any form of combat training, but he wouldn't give on that. It was as if the ability to nurture, to coax an abundance of life-giving sustenance from the cruel ground was ingrained in him, a talent he couldn't begin to cultivate in blacksmithing.

By the time he was a teenager, then, he was an apprentice in earnest - learning everything his uncle had to teach him and, eventually, teaching as much as he was learning. Being blessed by the Goddess Bala, Seo excelled at his craft far beyond what anyone in his family had ever expected. And so it was that, though he'd never show a shred of disrespect to his beloved uncle, his apprenticeship became closer to a partnership, wherein he had as much to contribute as he did to take away. His father, even, became involved in their success by shaping the tools Seodai would request for their work.
