The Diamond of Kalea is located on Kalea's extreme west coast and called as such because its completely made of a crystalline substance called Skyglass. Home of the Alvina of the Stars, cultural mecca of knowledge seekers, and rife with Ethaefal, this remote city shimmers with its own unique light.

Rivaal gave an uncomfortable laugh. His eyes flickered a greenish yellow. She was friendly. There was that much. His Vantha instincts had been dead for a few days now, and they were trying to start up once again. He took a deep breath, and his eyes went to a friendly green. "Yeah, but it's not so bad. I've been on my own for a while too."

He had the first few bites of food, and though it was good, he just wasn't hungry. He was too nervous, trying to get everything in order. His home was a very temporary rental until he got on his feet, and he really had to find a job tonight. Distractions happened at every corner of his settling in it seemed. "You know... I'm not that hungry. Did you want the rest?" He smiled. "I'm Rivaal, by the way. Just Rivaal."

"Arev," she said with a quick smile. "And you should eat. Don't worry about me. I can always go out and hunt if I really need food." She leaned in slightly and sniffed subtly again, getting a better grasp of his smell. "So you mean to be a guard? Loyalty to the city speaks well of you."

That made her think, though. What was she going to do? Would they let her be a guard? She knew she was alright with a bow. But she liked the wilderness. And where was she going to to stay? She had a tent and similar gear, but that was a traveler's abode.

Rivaal laughed. "I wouldn't go to the wilderness around here. There's no civilization for miles, and the only guaranteed survival is if the guards are around." He was opening up. "You were probably lucky coming in. Except for the roads, it's practically suicide to go out there."

He surrendered to her urging, and continued to eat a bit more. "I'm not really sure what else I'm cut out for though. I need money, training, food, a real home since the room I'm borrowing is only temporary... I'm not really good at anything else. I suppose I could cook or something. What about you? Any plans now that you're here?"

"None," Arev said pleasantly. "And I don't consider it suicide. It only is if you're pink and squishy and easy food. I grew up out in the wilderness with my father. I think this place is probably more dangerous for me." She seemed pleased that he was eating, as if she had to take care of him.

"At least you have a home. The closest I come is my camping supplies. I've been on the road for a long time. I suppose my father's home is still there, of course, but it is very empty."

The Vantha's eyes went blue again. He silently cursed his eyes, knowing that they gave away his every emotion. They weren't eyes of pity, just a bit of sadness. "I do owe you for the meal. Just don't make a mess, and you can stay at my place tonight. Tomorrow, or maybe later, I'm heading out for a job and my own place."

He hesitated for a moment. It was like he was building his own hold or something. Friends and family, all living together. It made him homesick. "And if you want to pitch in, we can probably get a decent place with a couple of bedrooms. You look like you could use someplace safer than the woods, even if you can take care of yourself."

"Really?" Arev's face suddenly brightened up, her golden eyes alive with excitement. "I'd love that! Thank you!" She felt a warm glow in her chest. She'd have a pack, a master to serve! Gods, it was something that every Kelvic dreamed of. She had a sudden, inexplicable urge to wag her tail furiously. If only she had it.

A warm hearth, a soft spot on the floor, hot meat, a master...those were the best things in life. She smiled at him contently. Now this was a life.

"Err... No problem," he said with a light laugh. She was certainly excited, and he wondered if he'd just gotten himself in trouble. It hadn't quite dawned on him yet that she was a Kelvic, or else he might realize the task he'd taken on. Absently, he ate the last few bites of his meal and sighed. "You know... I'll just... just head out later. I'll catch the lady loaning me the room and get directions to the Cosmos Center tomorrow evening."

He shook his head. The food helped, but he was still trying to change his sleep schedule to fit Lhavit life. A yawn crept out, and the end turned into a sigh. Looking up, he shook his head again. "At least there's a decent view of the sky from where I'm staying. How are you holding up?"

"I like being out at night," Arev said, looking around. She could see quite well in the darkness. "But you're still adjusting, I imagine. You look like you could use a bit more rest. And I promise I'll do something to help around your home. At least until I can find work. Maybe I can hunt and sell the furs or meat. I don't know." Planning wasn't her strong suit. She was looking forward to following his lead.

In many ways, she felt the same as he did about adjusting slowly. The city had so many rules to follow, so many things she couldn't do. She would miss running for hours and hours, pine needles cracking and spreading their fragrance under her feet. Or howling at the moon...

Well, she could probably still do that. And the chickens. Arev reflected that now that she planned on staying in the city, she would probably have to pay for them first.

Rivaal chuckled. "There's time. I'm not going broke quite yet. I can probably survive the season at least." He carefully bent from side to side to stretch a few muscles without hitting anyone in the crowded streets.

"Let's go. It's nothing too big, but there's room," he told her as he took the lead back. She seemed like she needed a friend, but it still hadn't clicked yet as to why she was so excited. "You still hungry? I'm not so tired I can't cook something when we get back."

"I'm fine," she said happily, trailing after him faithfully. She inhaled deeply again, fixing his smell in her brain. Master. It was impossible for Arev to describe the sudden flood of purpose that had poured into her being. "I have money too. About ninety gold-rimmed mizas, I think. I'm not sure how far they'll go, but they're yours. You're giving me a place to stay..." And something to live for.

She felt amazingly secure, watching all around to make sure Rivaal wasn't threatened by anyone. So this was what it was like to find someone to bond with. Maybe she was a bit young and impulsive in her choice, but it felt so right.
