Boy, do you know Sunberth? (Edd)

Postby Bob Barton on September 3rd, 2011, 3:34 pm

4th day of Fall 511 AV

Bob just finished yet another uneventful day at Killroy's. He had to take care of the dogs...again... But he got used to most of the dogs already after almost a season. Some he could even call them friends? Nope more like trusted companions so he did take some pride in beautifying the dogs and making them pretty. So that they can find the good owners which were rare in Sunberth and have a chance at living the rest of their lives out happily. At least until the strange event of them returning to Killroy's. Then the game starts all over again.

It was a pretty simple job for Bob today. Especially when the dogs are more cooperative. He started out with just a normal brush. The one with the long bristles so that it can brush any dog whether they had long, medium or short fur. "Hmm, hmm, hmm. Time to pretty you up little doggy." Bob would say while brushing the dogs. Making sure that the brush goes deep into the fur. Then he pulled it down as gently as possible. At least until the brush got stuck on the hair. When that happens only he pulls it down hard. "Ish, ish, ish. Just calm down. Its for your own good." he will tell them. Reassuring them enough so hopefully they won't maul him.

With all that done then they will look nice and healthy enough until the next time Bob needed to do this. He would have done more but it was well into the afternoon. He needed a break. Get into town and have some fun. He will continue working on the dogs either at night or some other day. But now he put away his brush away and left the kennels.

Bob had to pass through the Wolf's Den on his way out of Killroy's to wherever it was that he was headed to. Then he saw a boy. Looking not even old enough to survive in Sunberth alone. He was a little suspicious. Tailing another man around in the streets very close. Bob felt that it was very out of place since Sunberth was the type of place you would stand as far away as possible from others to not risk trouble. Especially in a dangerous place like the Den. But then this boy kept inching nearer and nearer to the man...

Edd trailed the man who looked as though his purse would be filled with an estate itself, he followed him for about ten minutes before he glanced over his shoulder to see another following him, he began to speed up. but as the man was about to pass an alley he couldn't resist but to walk beside him and shove him into the dark alley.

he pulled his favorite curved knife that seemed to be mad to hold a man by the neck. He put it to the mans stomach...

Boy, do you know Sunberth? (Edd)

Well that was surprising. Since the pair was headed for the same direction, Bob thought he will stick around until they had to part. But as he started to follow them, he forgot all about heading to town and more about following them. He hoped that it was not that obvious of what he was doing since he was just walking like normal without making any attempts to hide himself. Only when maybe the pair stopped he turned to the side and pretended to look at the graffiti on the wall. Some gang signs of Sunberth he knows nothing about. And on one such occasion he turned back to find both man and boy missing. Now that really got his full attention.

"Where are you..." Bob whispered just to make sure that he was still alive. They were still at the the Den. Still a dangerous place. Maybe the boy got caught, or both the pair by someone else. Bob did not want to get involved in another person's problem but maybe if he acted natural he can pass through unharmed?

Bob positioned himself right at the middle as he went enough the street. Hopefully with enough room for him to notice and run away at any sign of danger. As an added precaution he slowed down his walk and stopped using his cane as was his habit when walking. Slowly putting his foot on the ground so that he would not make so much as a sound and holding the cane in the air so there won't be a tapping sound.

When he neared the alley he could hear the slight sounds of a struggle. "EEP! Its right there." stupidly thinking thoughts which would feed his fears. Then he quickened his pace. No need to try for stealth now, all that matters is to run!

Then passing by he caught a glimpse of the boy and man he was tailing from earlier when he glanced in the alley. He also caught the faint glimmer or...something reflecting the sunlight. It didn't take much for Bob to put them all together. A struggle, an alley and something shining to the stomach...this must be a mugging. As Bob thought something was strange about the boy.

Hoping that the boy did not see the witness and ignoring the pleading look on the man Bob passed through the alley. But instead of moving on, he leaned to the wall. Keeping still so that no unnecessary movements would make a sound to betray him still with the cane in hand to protect himself. He was already an unwilling witness to the scene. Witnesses are dangerous and the boy if he really wanted to could just chase after Bob. The thought of getting caught by surprise like the man was something that he did not want to come true.

Boy, do you know Sunberth? (Edd)

"your money" Edd whispered as he pushed the knife into the man. He was keeping a close eye on the man not paying to much attention to the sights around him. His face calm and his hands steady showed that this was not the first time Edd had done this. He looked the man over and he appeared less wealthy from here, what had once looked like cloth gowns were now ragged old cloths, Edd must have gotten caught up in the heat of the chase, but it was too late to turn back now.

"no... please" The man begged, as Edd shoved the knife against him telling him to shut up. The man looked around hopelessly as if some hero would come to his rescue, as if in a fairy tale. As if some mysterious stranger would come to his rescue and fight off the evil that was Edd.

"give me the money or you die here, in this alley" Edd pushed the knife enough to cut the man but not enough to do any real harm to the man, Edd watched as he pulled his purse, when he noticed something poking through, a weapon of some-kind or it seemed, Edd pulled the bag away and put the knife to the mans neck, "do you take me as an idiot, i know there's a weapon in here" he said as he rummaged through the bag, pulling a quill and some spare change out. "crap..." he thought to himself feeling like an idiot...

Bob could not hear anything from where he was. Too much whispering which will never turn around the wall or go through it. So it was quiet...just too quiet... Maybe the boy was going to spring up on him now that he was done with the man. Thats not going to happen! Bob put his hand on the handle and the other one the cane. Ready to draw if he needed to.

Prepared for an attack, he peered around the wall. Just enough to keep his body and weapon hidden but able to watch everything with his eyes. It might strain his neck for a bit but better that than to risk losing it. The scene he saw nearly made him burst out with uncontrolled laughter. The boy was being threatened by a quill. It was the man's own fault. Walking around the den without a weapon. So if he dies here he cannot blame Bob for anything.

His eyes were looking, begging Bob to help him. "Look away fool, look away" Bob started thinking the words hard. Maybe the message would get into the man's head. Bob did not want to have his position given away and dragged into trouble. He quickly turned back to the wall to hide again like he did earlier. But he did it too fast that it "Thump!" loudly. That was not good... Hopefully the boy ignores it and finishes his business fast.

Edd threw the quill on the ground just before he heard a thump on the wall behind him, as he turned to look at it the man swung a small dagger at him. Edd ducked quickly avoiding the knife and swinging his blade right in the mans side pushing him against the wall. Edd watched as the man fell from the blood splattered wall. He looked around making sure no one saw as he remembered the thump against the wall and ran to see what had happened...

Boy, do you know Sunberth? (Edd)

Postby Bob Barton on September 3rd, 2011, 5:59 pm

"Huff...huff..." Breathing heavily Bob was trying to calm himself down when he heard something smashing into something else. It was all finally over, Bob hoped. Until he heard the faint sounds of feet coming towards him quickly.

Bob peered at the wall again to catch a glimpse of who was coming. Horrified to see the dead body slumped at the wall and the boy coming at his direction with a bloodied knife. "EEP!" He was going to be the next victim of this little criminal. Maybe he hasn't seen Bob yet. So Bob got back to his hiding spot on the wall to hopefully remain hidden from the boy.

He still needed to be able to escape. So Bob got into a crouch. One foot pressed forward in front and a knee pressed on the ground at the back. Ready to push off with a running start in case things did not go as planned. Now that running away was in order it was time to prepare for a chance to attack. Looking over his shoulder he had his cane ready to be stuck out when he needed to. And that would be once he saw a trace of the boy running out of the alley. Like maybe a foot or his weapon. Even a shadow would do.

If his plan worked and the boy tripped on the ground, Bob would spin in place to face him. Unsheathing the sword that was hidden in his cane and pointing it at the throat threateningly. Hopefully then the boy will surrender to Bob. If not, Bob will kick off and get into a run. Going down the street and hoping that the boy won't give the chase.

Edd made a mad dash to the opening of the dark alley, a glimmer of light shined from behind the darkness that engulfed him. "i cant let him get away" Edd thought to himself frantically. he jumped out from the alley with slide that left him facing a man ducked down. Only one word went through his head "crap..." he slam to the ground with a loud thud as his head hit straight on the ground.

Yes it worked, and Bob did not have to run. After the hectic day of working, the last thing Bob wanted to do is overexert himself. As soon as he felt the boy's leg hitting his cane, he pushed up on his legs. Not to go forward, but to get his body up. Then when his feet were suspended on the air with the jump he turned his body to face his would be assailant.

"You thought that you would have the drop on me huh? You should have been happy with that fat shyke over there!" Bob snarled with the drawn sword pointing at the boy's throat. "Tell me right now why I shouldn't do to you what you wanted to do to me...like him?" Bob asked nodding to the back over at the corpse in the alley.

"So right now, you have a choice. Drop your weapon or I will drop you." Thinking that a boy at this age would be so daring to mug someone here, Bob pulled back his sword like he was ready to plunge the sword at the boy's throat. It won't be a threat that he would follow actually since it was only to scare the boy into submission. But if the boy had the guts to call on his bluff who knows what Bob might do in his paranoid state.

Edd got up with a slight hesitation, he looked deep in the mans eyes, knife still in hand. He looked around as if plotting a way to cover up what he had done by killing this man and still get away without a scratch. He put the blade back in his belt slowly and began backing away. When he saw two men approaching from the alley way, one was looking at the body while the other was walking toward Edd.

"i wont hurt you if you let me go" Edd said with a hesitant sound in his voice, his eyes flickering from the man before him and the one approaching. at this point the one approaching had pulled his blade and looked as though he was about to charge at Edd. Thoughts filling his mind, "run" or "fight" the two choices both seemed almost hopeless. The thoughts screamed at him. His eyes now seemed to have the same hopeless desperation the man in the alley once had.
