Mizahar NANOWRIMO Idea

Hey all Mizaharians!

I saw a thread about NANOWRIMO coming up this year and that some of us are actually looking for others to join in on the fun, some of us have joined into the roller coaster before and loved it, others not so much. And it reminded me of something I saw a few years ago on a Harry Potter Forum RPG that I use to play on...

They did their own NANOWRIMO contest, it was a lot smaller in word size [something like 10,000 words instead of 50,000 in a one month period], was based on their characters and Hogwarts [It was Harry Potter after all]. The idea was neat and I thought, "Hey lets see what Mizaharians think of this idea." I mentioned it in the Chat and was suggested to bring the idea up here... SO I am. Heh.

I guess the idea is, do ya'll think it's a good idea?

Since we track game stats like fiends, I know November is a traditional drop off month because of NaNo. I'd be more than happy to support anything that's player driven like an initiative to say further character goals and give it a word count or something along those lines by providing medals and awards.

Mizahar is your rpg environment. We'll definitely support anything you guys want to do so long as its original. So no ripping off NaNoWriMo but we can do something in that flavor of course.

I like that idea, it would be really fun I think. Should it be allowing only solo writing like NaNoWriMo or will it be allowed to have groups to enter too. Or maybe have two cathegories, one for solo entries and one for group entries?

Hey everyone I had an idea for this while I was walking my dog just now.

We can have a contest to write a piece of lore in the month of November. The lore can be a skill, an animal, or even an in-game novel. We could even narrow the margin and say that the contest is to write an in-game novel only or something.

Everyone participating would start writing in November and by the last day of the month, you need to have something written up and ready for peer review. Then you can get a medal for participating, even if your lore still needs some work from the peer review.

I thought this would be neat because it could give a boost to lore write ups. (Although, we would need to hold another contest to get them reviewed LOL)

The idea is very raw, but I'll throw it out there anyways. Let me know what yall think about that. I think it's a good idea, but it might be difficult to pull off...or maybe not enough people would be interested.

This actually seems like a pretty awesome idea. Both the idea of doing something along Mendax's original idea or something like what Mok has suggested.

I support doing something special for November!

Okay.. I think this is definitely something we can pull off.

What I see happening though is not this huge amount of categories or mini novels or things like that. What I see going by primarily is what NaNoWriMo goes by and that's wordcount pure and simple.

So... here's what I think will work and you guys can tell me if you agree.

Nov 1 we put up a thread called Mizahar's NaNoWriMo Registration. You need to register... that is post in that thread and list your current word count. People can validate what it is by just checking under your avatar verses what you've posted to make sure its accurate. Then Dec 1st we'll go back through and everyone with +50,000 to their word count wins a Mizahar NaNoWriMo medal. This needs to be a primarily IC contest (not counting lore articles, those are fine!) though so if you use excessive ooc we'll see it and know you're cheeseballing. Then, you can make your 50,000 words anything you want. That's a lot of words per day... about 1700 or so, so preplanning is really nice.

Here's ten tips from me. Feel free to share your own!

1. Plan threads ahead.
2. Focus on solos, novels, articles and dreams.
3. Get any research done ahead of time.
4. Reward yourself when you get your word goals for the day done.
5. Set word goals for the day.
6. Set goals with a buddy and cheerlead them as they cheerlead you.
7. Make some music CD's ahead of time so you have your writing music all lined up.
8. Don't get distracted. Procrastination is your enemy.
9. Write extra ahead if you know your having a busy weekend or want a day off.
10. Write-in's and NaNo Parties are fun. We can hold them in chat.

Since I made Vick for something like this last year I know it can be done with the 50,000 word count.

Most of my words are in IC terms and I passed the 50k mark before end of Nov so if I can do it then I know anyone can do it.
