Official NaNoWriMo standings

Are we really going to fuss over one or two words when we are talking 50,000 + here people? You are loosing the spirit of NaNo if you are and insist on it. I think that's asking a great deal. I'm really thankful we are getting a more accurate counter with Tarot doing this when he didn't have too.

If you're not in this challenge for the personal betterment and enjoyment, then you can nitpick a word or two. But for those us that want to challenge ourselves and simply have fun rping our fingers off, I don't give two shykes over it. Tarot is going above and beyond, and I don't think a major thank you to him is out of line here. No one asked him to go through each every one of those names and do an individual count--he's doing that coz he's a ninjatechy! Hand him a thanks and some ninja cookies! Just to clarify, this takes me just a couple minutes to do. It's just pasting some text, clicking a button, copying the results, finding and replacing the tabs with | to format them into a table, and posting. So it's no big deal, really.

As to why the count might differ by a word or two, databases are complex things that use a lot of dirty tricks to get their tasks done faster. I suspect it's some optimization somewhere in the bowels of MySQL. If you edit your posts, though, your new total will reflect that. The count starts from November 1st every time.

Personally, it has nothing to do with writing, and more to do with coding. I do a thing or two with databases and am also studying MySQL/MSAccess on the side. I dabble a little in programming and am curious that is all.

Curse you Eridanus I thought for sure would've had you beat today *shakes fist*. Either we possess brain computer interfaces...or have no life...or only sleep like 5 hours a night...

Or we are trying to get this all done before 11-11-11 when Skyrum comes out because it may consume us completely.

I'm jealous of those ridiculous word counts, but...

The point of this was mostly to boost posts during November, when most of the player base disappears. Racing to 50k in the first week of November and then dropping off the face of the planet completely defeats the point of all of this. So, that being said, I hope people continue to post even after they hack their way to 50k.
