A meeting with a mage... knight(Andresciel)

Postby Antar on December 3rd, 2011, 12:09 am

8th of Winter, 511 av. Morning...

The party had arrived in syliras, with many content to part ways for a much needed shopping trip: Antar included. The ride from Zeltiva with their 'guests' who were bringing them all to Alvadas for some reason or another was enough of a headache to coordinate that they all were to be on a ship in Syliras' port on the 10th of Winter.

No Exceptions.

This wasn't the first time Antar had been within the confines of the syliran city. Brief stops in his ... life before Avanthal had been necessary. He had been included under the guise of a merchant buying foodstuffs or pandering trade goods. A merchant who seemed to spurn the thoughts of gods meddling on the richest of earth. But not this time. This time he was simply a traveler on the way to Alvadas but it was the first time he had thought of taking his steps to a certain place he had heard of existed to offer a brief prayer for safe passage to laviku and a few others of note, Akajia amongst them. The place he was searching for held a simple name: The Temple of All Gods.

The trip through the gates for their rather large party hadn't been the best, seeing as many of their numbered were armed, and he had left little Nil to Shai's good keeping. The rogue knew the spider would keep her safe long enough for him to meet back with her, though he had told the others he would try to see the temple around midday. The trip through the gates had been ... inelegant in his eyes. But he had answered the questions succinctly and with tact.

But eventually they were let into the city proper. Not that Syliras was a 'proper' city in the sense of the term. It was more a fetid smelling giant castle with rooms upon rooms , levels upon levels, confining its inhabitants like pickled sardines crammed in a jar. But no, for now he was simply a pios traveler, ensconced in his armor, and robes with his assassin beads about his neck. The item was playing the part of prayer beads now, just one of the guises his paranoia slipped into automatically for protection.

He wandered the long halls which seemed like a twisting maze, and soon found himself confused upon where to go. Looking for an insight, any insight at all for the proper Antar would raise the beads to his lips and mutter a small prayer of sorts beneathe his breath as he walked slowly towards the nearest set of knightsOne of these is you Andresciel I don't want to break any rules here XD. to ask for directions.

He waited in silence, his eyes watching them beneath the cowl of his black robes for one to give him leave to speak, and when he was given leave to speak he would solemny say, "I beg pardon for the intrusion good knights. I merely am a traveler wishing to seek the domain of the Temple of All Gods, perhaps one of you might be so kind to assist me?"
"I am the Shadow and the smoke in your eyes, I am the ghost that hides in the night."

A meeting with a mage... knight(Andresciel)

Postby Andresciel on December 3rd, 2011, 12:18 am

The Mage Knight, clad in his light armor and unmistakable with the glyphs on his gauntlets turned back at the sound of the voice, his hand held up to his patrol mates, friends he had met as a squire. He looks down at the young man who had spoken, taking in the armor and the beads, raising an eyebrow. "The Temple? You passed it on the way friend." The tall mage stated, a chuckle coming from his lips as he stepped past the man, exposing his back to the other, even as he began his walk towards the main street, "Come, I will take you to it."

The Mage Knight often took trips to the Temple to pray to Yahal, and today was no different, only this time, he was escorting a stranger to the city. "May I know your name friend?" The Mage asked as he begins to introduce himself, "I am Ser Andresciel of the Order, a pleasure to meet you." He waved his hand, as if not wanting to do the bowing that most associated with the Knights of Syliras.

A meeting with a mage... knight(Andresciel)

Postby Antar on December 3rd, 2011, 12:53 am

Antar smiled and nodded at the knight's good mannerisms. He could tell this one was not abhorently mired in the traditions of noblesse oblige that some of the other more stuck up members of their order was. At least by reputation. They were known as a cold and backwards lot filled with honor so stiff it made their bones stand up by themselves. Through the cowl of his hood he raised his eyes enough to peer sideways at the good knight."My good Ser... Andresciel was it?"

His one eyed gaze was steady, even as he met the knight's two, weighing him, assessing him in the mannerisms that had been ingrained since so long ago. In a cordial manner he nodded, as if he saw something of note within the other man. An inclination of understanding another who might be just as deadly as he was save with other methods. The slight motion dislodged a single lock of white hair that fell to his eyes before a clenched hand pulled up the beads to flip it back under the cowl of his robe with thumb. Antar began to walk beside the knight, keeping his pacing a simple one half pace behind in deference to the knight's station hear.

Speaking softly in order to not disturb the throngs of people, Antar spoke with the lilting tone of one accustomed to politeness. "Perhaps it would be best to say I am a simple traveler inclined to offer a prayer there, however if you must know my name it is Antar, though usually upon the roads I go by Anthony as a tenet of ensuring my personal security. By the way those are interesting sigils I see upon your gauntlets... nader-canoch is interesting though I cannot read it. You find many want such scrawling to be made into their crafted items for the aesthetic value. Though I wonder, do they form a name or slogan perhaps?"

He watched the knight carefully, he full well knew the dangers and prejudices of the knights against anything connecting with magic. Glyphs inclusive. But if this knight knew a bit about the old tongue, then perhaps his question might shake loose a bit of interesting aspects of conversation. Antar knew the knights employed mages in their ranks, the tales of their fury towards the enemies of syliras were told in wild imaginings and old wives tales. But did the reality hold any fact? His curiousity begged him to skirt the knife's edge to find out.

A meeting with a mage... knight(Andresciel)

The Knight looked down at the stranger, Antar, and chuckled as he kept the normal pace. His arm came up "Tis my name. Andresciel. Written upon my gauntlets in the Ancient Tongue, in glyphs. Not useful for my art but still, far from fitting in." He shrugs as he answered the males question, pulling his hood up as he passed by a shop, smelling the sweets. He was a mage, the rest around him strong as was the wind that every so often brushed against him. Most of the citizens acknowledged him, with greetings and soft hellos. Andresciel barely returned them, as he watched his new charge.

"As for how they got there. You'd have to ask my mentor, who gave them to me." He shrugs his shoulder, a single movement as his dark blue eyes aligned on the Temple ahead. "Ah. There it is, just a few more streets and I'll have you there." The Knight stated as he heard a fight begin. He sighed, tapping into his Reimancy to speed his movements enough to step between two citizens, stopping the fight in its tracks as the wind died around him. Both men simply went on their way as Andre turned to Antar with an apology "Sorry about that. I am on Patrol duty today."

A meeting with a mage... knight(Andresciel)

Postby Antar on December 3rd, 2011, 1:23 am

Upon the way with light conversation between the two, Antar felt the peculiar humming in the back of his mind that signified someone's alteration of djed nearby. One his mind logically deduced would be the knight who had spoken earlier about his 'art' and the significance of the glyphs upon his gauntlets.

As Andresciel sped to stop the scuffle between the two, Antar let his eyes shift with a slight surge of djed into the Second Sight. The trail of whispering currents of air about the mages body as the djed summoned Res Spilled quickly from the poors near the back of his legs or neck was an interesting sort, not from the hands. Especially of how it was transmuted almost instantaneously to propellant gusts of air lit as sparkling streams of lime green djed sparkles push the knight's armored bulk forwards at a slightly quicker pace then usual. It was an interesting use of reimancy to be sure, one that he might have to ask upon later, if he wasn't concerned about being in the midst of one of the most paranoid mage cities in the entire continent of Mizahar.

For a second he nodded as his suspicions of the man's role in the knights was confirmed, but then his mind locked itself down. This was his first time using auristics in a crowd and his sight was almost lost in the plethora of colors about him before he shunted the djed stream away from his sight, starving the power from his senses to fade the sense of using auristics in a crowded city. He had almost been blinded by the sensations of the surroundings, a tricky mistake to make here in a city of knights which made him wince painfully under the cowl of his cloak as the knight began to speak again.

He sent a slight prayer to akajia to hope the Knight hadn't felt the simple feelings which he had at the minor djed use, but he noted one thing. The man was using the reimantical element of Air, an element he had not learned yet. Though his technique would be something of note to study. Clearing his throat loudly in order to play the part of apparent shock at the knight's quick reflexes Antar returned the knights words with words of his own. "Do not ever apologize to someone for doing your duty, Andresciel. Patrol, or otherwise. Just be wary that duty does not hinder you one day from seeing what is good and truthful internally compared to what is gained from external sources. You keep order here in Syliras in an external fashion. To do it well I imagine you must have some internal discipline for yourself. Take a slight rest for a moment before we continue, if the sigils on your gauntlets are any indication: you did use more then your muscles there. Am I correct?"

A meeting with a mage... knight(Andresciel)

The Knight smirked "You know, I've not seen a non-mage understand these Glyphs." He stated as he settled his back against the wall, sighing as his shoulders slump. He was tired, physically, and the use of Djed was not something he often wielded when he was tired. "But you are right. These sigils indicate something more then my name. I am a Mage" He shrugs, looking up at the man "But then, I'd give two gold mizas to say that you are." He stated, having felt a prickle at the use of Djed. None of the other mage knights were out and about that he knew of, and that left only the Citizens and the stranger.

Most citizens avoided it, like it was a plague or something. "But even if you are, its your business. Not mine. Speak as you wish." The Man repeated a phrase his Mentor often used that meant simply, Tell what you want, and keep the rest hidden if need be great. Andre shrugged, "I am a Reimancer of Wind and Fire, and as my gauntlets show, a glypher. Though, not advent in the Glyphing arts." He shrugs as he turned towards his normal training grounds, a small garden near the Temple, his sapphire eyes on the ground.

A meeting with a mage... knight(Andresciel)

Postby Antar on December 3rd, 2011, 1:48 am

Chuckling slightly at the Knights words, Antar would hazard to say something he normally wouldn't in this city. He told the man of his current presence and a bit of his past... at least bits that were close enough to the truth in his prior life as a assassin. "My business has been many things over the years, bounty hunter, carpenter, woodsman, apprentice. Some magics are simply a part of those trades. As a bounty hunter I developed some skills of reimancy myself to go after a few serious criminals, or to ensure I could start a fire in the snows. Earth and fire were my elements of choice. Though don't worry, I shall use neither here unless under the express permission , and direc surveillance of a knight in a safe place. I dabble in shielding, glyphing, and auristics, the lattermost is good to detect many a weaknesses in crafting if you ply the right tools."

Letting his gaze stay level beneath the cowl of his robe as he looked at the knight straight on he saw the need to hide his talents but not when directly pressed by a knight. So he simply smiled and told the truth." Other then that, I find meditation to be worth my time, though of all of the above, I find my skills with a sword, kukri, or bow to be the best defense. Though I much prefer the life of a carpenter to create things with my hands. That is, or was, until my present set of circumstances were too good to pass up: I've been contracted with a group to go to Alvadas to help out with some projects there for their government, not too many details yet, but the pay was promised to be good and they're paying for the passage. Ship leaves in three days."

A meeting with a mage... knight(Andresciel)

The Knight nods as he settled his cloak on a branch nearby, watching the male as he slipped under the tree and drew his armored gauntlets on tighter. "I'm an avid believer of using only what you need. Meaning, I don't use magic often." He settled in a stance, his legs apart, balancing his weight as he held both hands out before him, palms towards the tree, his fingers spread. His res began to shift into being as his sapphire eyes turned sky blue, the whistling wind settling around his arms as he shot forward, settling a bit of a windstream behind and before him. It settled the winds, cutting them from his path as his fist struck the tree full force, causing pieces of splinter to fly off and strike the ground, even as Andre came to a halt. "But doesn't mean I can't effectively use my Wind Reimancy." The Knight stated, no pain in his voice. He stepped back over to the other man, watching his face.

Few were unimpressed by the sheer power that Andre managed to dig from his Wind Reimancy, combining it with his skill in unarmed, but fewer still wished to learn it. Everyone was worried that they would go insane, and to Andre, that was a valid point, still. It was used to protect the citizens. "You wish to know how I discipline myself too I take it? My prayers to Yahal, God of Purity and Faithfulness. I give myself to him every day, meditating as often as I can."

A meeting with a mage... knight(Andresciel)

Postby Antar on December 3rd, 2011, 3:20 am

The small garden near the temple wasn't much of a garden at all. Just a small copse of trees with a clearing in the center. It was an interesting place to practice, and the words of meditation piqued Antar's interest as the mage knight lead him through the briar and the trimmed hedges which surrounded its exterior.

The glade was a secluded, solitary place, peaceful, yet the ground between the sides of the copse was earthy with few, if any grasses which might be set alight if fire was used. A perfect place to contemplate the measures of the world, letting time pass within this peaceful den. The knight threw his cloak over a closeby tree branch and turned back towards him. Speaking his peace as he began. Sadly at the strangest buzz within his head , Antar knew the peace of the glade was about to be broken. Shifting his gaze back into auristics , he watched the Res bleed from Andresciels pores once more, wafting through the gaps of his armor as it bent to the mage's will.

Rivulets of djed laced transmuted res of skyblue formed a twisting corridor, both in front and behind the man's fist, cutting through the air resistance to let his strike shatter splinters from a tree. Noth arched an eyebrow at the technique he saw, wondering if perhaps he could truly master it today. The basic principle the technique was superb, to reduce wind resistance in one's strikes with a fist, blade, or weapon while compressing the Res' transmutory potential into a what could only be described as a spinning drill to one's Altered Sight. Perhaps it was in the exacct same way Zulrav's spinning hurricanes and tornados were able to ravage the lands with his passing. The sight of such in use to his Auristics was certainly impressive as it was grounded in the natural laws and principles of what was seen in the world. But, the flash of depth of the mages colors were also impressive, in the focused blue it seemed to relay to him.

If the white haired rogue knew the basic principle, then he was sure he could learn the technique in due time later in life. BUT,it would require the mastering of a third element to his reimancy... and in all honesty he did not think he was ready yet. Shutting down his auristics, Noth closed his eyes to control his breathing a moment longer, letting the breaths flow in and out of his body as he began to force himself to meditate.

He was sure the other mage would know what he was doing, centering his focus to calm bits of his djed from magic use. Even if Andresciel had not known of auristics such things would be clear just from his basic set of knowledge about the theories behind using djed.

Theories were interesting, much like the insight he had just gained to potentially master , and duplicate the technique of what he had just seen later down the line. When he felt composed enough he opened his eyes to smile at the knight."An interesting technique, I can see the principles of how it works, though sadly I do not feel I am ready to take upon a third element. But rest assured, when I can I will make every attempt to duplicate that technique. It can be applied in so many ways... though I notice a danger to it. Without resistance in front of you, with fist or sword, you should beware that your strikes would be very hard to turn away if you make the mistake of attacking the wrong person."

Sighing loudly, Antar glanced upwards through the cowl of his robes towards the streams of sunlight which pierced the glade's canopy." In any other city, I would be happy to offer to spar against you in a numerous number of things. However, without leave of a knight I cannot use any of such talents within syliran walls. If you do wish to get some practice today though perhaps an affordable conclusion might be sought. Are you authorized to write a one time waiver of clemency for the time I spar against you here and now, on this day at this time. With the only caveat being the exclusion of fire reimancy. As a carpenter, and a woodsman, I would hate to burn these trees present here, nor would I care to do anything that might harm the city. If you can do that... I promise that your ability to intelligently use your skills might be tested like never before."
"I am the Shadow and the smoke in your eyes, I am the ghost that hides in the night."

A meeting with a mage... knight(Andresciel)

The Knight chuckled, knowing his skill had been analyzed, and he knew a little of Auristics, a few Knights used it. He turned back as he heard the male's down side to it. "If your in complete control of your Wind Reimancy, you can stop the movement. It does have the nasty tendency to break a bone or two." He shrugs as he looks at the male, noting his seeking of permission. "I can write a waiver of clemency. I have the authority, but are you giving me your word not to break the laws and regulations of Syliras after this spar and to not use this waiver for your own personal gain?" The Knights words were harsh.
