Great! I'll look for some images over the next few days, and then post it for approval. You should see it appear in the forum in the week somewhen. Thank you for your write up!

I'd like to see an actual location thread for a dorm.

And maybe a sample description for a classroom.

Hi Lucas! :)

Yes, there are three vital things I need to add to the University locations, and are on my agenda:

- Library
- Classrooms
- Living Quarters

I promise they will appear soon, and thanks for the suggestion!

Labs too! Either general all-purpose magic labs, or even customized ones (for each world magic) for better utility. Not to mention gadgeteering labs too!
NOTICE: I am currently mostly inactive til August. As such, guild activities are temporarily halted (watch out for major revamps, changes and organizations when I'm back in full force). Any activity with Eri will be rather slow as well, but I am slowly readjusting back to "Mizahar life", so to speak, so do PM me if we have a thread that I left hanging and we'll talk.

Oh yes, we definitely need labs, especially alchemy ones. If you have any great ideas for those, feel free to post them up Eri :)

The Zeltivan Prison. I know this was mentioned in another thread months ago but I thought I'd bring it up again. Probably because I'll likely end up up there at one point. Hahahah.

[Domain Development] Let's Build Zeltiva Together

Postby Paragon on February 1st, 2012, 3:15 pm

Hi guys, just to let you in on the locations I'm hoping to have up this coming weekend...

- Classrooms (This is going to be a generic sort of location for now, since there's the possibility for hundreds of different classrooms.
- Library - Zeltiva is renowned for its extensive library, so I need to get this up!
- Living Quarters - Where student dorms are located.
- Labs - a Laboratory complex for alchemy, gadgeteering, and perhaps other subjects.
- Zeltivan Prison (self explanatory).

Further down the pipeline, I want to...

- Put a face to the Lord of Council.
- Put faces to teaching staff and Registrars.
- Put faces to members of the Sailor's Guild.
- Add an aquarium to the pier!

For Spring:

- I am making a Spring Calendar, ready to go in March.
- I'm also making a course list for Spring, which I will post in March or just before.

Phew, lots to do!

You know, I'll take you up on that :D

The Transmutation Ring

The Transmutation Ring is the name for the collection of Alchemy Laboratories scattered throughout Zeltiva University. Most facilities or classrooms used by the Magic Department are situated in the East Wing, but these Labs are situated at the borders of the University. Each of the four Labs are equally spaced out in the four corners of the University and are separately standing building. They are all equally purposed and supplied, with the only differences being the decor and location. Each lab also has a room off-limits to anyone else except a select few. It is a tiny room located at the corner of the lab closest to the center of the University.

Gold Room - North-West corner - golden paint and warm hues.
Silver Room - North-East corner - sparkly silver with a futuristic feel.
Iron Room - South-West corner - dull gray color with a metallic tinge.
Copper Room - South-East corner - rich bronze tint and a cozy decor.

Miscellaneous: Equivalent to a 400 sq.ft. Alchemy Lab (Elaborate). Walls are made of strong masonry, with expert-level shields in place to keep the outside world safe from any alchemical experiments gone wrong. A caretaker regularly roams between these labs to ensure that their locks and shields are secure, as well as to make sure that the labs are well-maintained and serviceable.

Rumors: It is said the off-limits room is actually the mysterious caretaker's bedroom. Others insist that the caretaker has a secret family that he keeps hidden in these four rooms. A common story seniors like to use to scare alchemy freshmen with is that misbehaving alchemy students, or those considered too dangerous to rehabilitate in the Scholar's Asylum, will be locked in the secret prisons held in these off-limit doors. Their rotted remains are still somewhere inside.

Note on usage (students): Labs are generally off-limits to students, unless they are attending practical lessions held there. Junior-levelMinimum 15 XP in Alchemy students are allowed to use the labs only for school projects or research, but must submit an application which must be endorsed by a relevant professor. Also, each session must be recorded and supervised by either the mentor-professor, other professors from the Alchemy Department, or qualified teaching aides (appointed near-graduatingMinimum 51 XP in Alchemy students). Expert-level students are allowed to use the Labs without supervision but must still have an endorsed application.

Note on usage (staff): Labs for usual lessons are automatically booked for the relevant professors when they submit their curriculum overview at the start of each season to the Administrative Department. Any other use of labs must be booked beforehand with the Administration, with reasons stated. Research is highly encouraged and the University will generally provide the necessary resources (within reason). However, credit must be given to the University, and the results of any experiments or research must be first disclosed to the Head of the Alchemy Department before further actions can be taken.

The Alahean Accelerator
The off-limit rooms actually lead underground to a huge cavernous area below the campus of the University. A high technology alchemy lab used to be here, but due to the Valterrian most of the areas were caved in. The University have since slowly excavated the area as carefully as they could to preserve any pre-Valterrian knowledge they could while clearing up the rubble in the cavern to restore the entire lab to its former glory.

The Toadstool Cluster

The Toadstool Cluster is a group of underground Magical Laboratories fully customized and outfitted for Magecrafting. They are situated a distance from the main classrooms and offices of the Magic Department but are still in the region of the East Wing. It is so named because in the field beside the East Wing quarters, one can see a bunch of odd toad-stool looking structures sticking out of the grass. These are actually the exhaust channels for the Laboratory in order to dissipate excess djed or whatnot from Magecrafting operations. There are five Labs placed together in a rough pentagram shape (see picture below). Due to the complicated and expensive nature of Magecrafting equipment and processes, the Labs are build together in order to facilitate easy and secure transport and sharing of resources. The Labs can are connected to the East Wing via an underground tunnel.

Layout of Labs :
Image
From the top lab going in a clock-wise manner, they are officially designated as MCL1, MCL2, MCL3, MCL4, MCL5.

Miscellaneous: Equivalent to a 400 sq.ft. Magic Lab (Elaborate), though if Gillar adds custom Magecraft Labs to the Price List like he did for Alchemy, then it'll be the customized ones. Note that only Magecrafting is able and is allowed to be performed here. Walls are made of masonry, and expert-level shields along with the underground feature of the labs are meant to protect the outside world from magical accidents. Professors from the Magecraft Department take turns to service and maintain the expensive and delicate equipment in the Labs, as well as the protective shields.

Rumors: A common story is that creatures from another dimension would dance amongst the ring of toadstools when the moon was full, and anyone foolish enough to be within range will be grabbed and transported back to their world after the dance was over. Another story which is more well-known in the Magecraft Department, and to some extent the Magic Department, says that given the right set of circumstances a special door will appear in one of the labs leading towards the center of the cluster which will lead one to either the Void or the Ukalas, depending on who told the story. There is also a rumor of the ghost of a long-dead wizard who will appear sometimes and goad its victim into overgiving and joining it in death.

Note on usage (students): Generally off-limits to students. There are no scheduled practical lessons like other forms of world magic, but instead students are required to book a minimum amount of 'lab practicals' per season to fulfill their graduation requirements. These lab practicals are actually either senior level students doing their final year projects, graduate-level students and professors doing research or the professors fulfilling their contract (see below). The student will learn on-the-job and act as an apprentice to whoever is in charge of the session they booked. A competent-level student can submit an application to be endorsed by a relevant professor for research or for a school project, and must be supervised by this same person when conducting the operation. Such sessions are not considered valid lab practicals. An expert-level student (usually talented seniors or graduates) is allowed to use the labs without supervision, but must still submit an endorsed application.

Note on resources: The University will provide the resources and facilities for Magecrafting operations that are approved by the Administration and the Magic Department. However, should there be any damages to the instruments and equipments, or if there is a failure, a full report must be written and the department will determine the percentage of the costs that the student must pay depending on how much negligence was involved. The main reason for the strict supervision is due to this. The supervising professor is also held responsible for ensuring no damage is done and to take over and salvage the Magecrafting operation should he deem the student incapable of resolving the problem and thus preventing the waste of resources. Every step along the way must be carefully documented, and after the operation, the enchanted item along with a report must be submitted to the Magecraft Department.

Note on renting facilities: Students and staff are allowed to rent the Magecrafting Labs for personal use, though standard lab rules still apply. They must pay the University for use of rent, and are expected to finance their own materials. This is the only way to keep their magecrafted product. There is no need for submission of any documentation, only that at the end of the procedure a professor from the Magecraft Department will personally inspect the Lab to ensure that everything is in order. Any damage to the instruments or equipment in the lab done must be paid fully to the University.

Note on usage (staff): Labs must be booked beforehand with the Administration, with reasons stated. Research is highly encouraged and the University will generally provide the necessary resources (within reason). However, credit must be given to the University, and the results of any experiments or research must be first disclosed to the Head of the Magecraft Department before further actions can be taken. Besides these standard rules for Lab usage, the Magecraft Department also requires professors to successfully create at least an MC1 item per season (this is stipulated in their job contract) for the school. In order to subsidize the tuition of the students, the main source of income for the University to cover costs are the sale of Magecrafted items.

MCL0
When certain circumstances have been met, the ghost of a long-dead Alahean wizard will appear and coax a victim to do certain things. These things fulfill the rest of the circumstances required, and simultaneously all five doors leading to the middle of the cluster will appear in the five labs. If one were to enter a door, one would find oneself coming out in the opposite lab's door, as if the two labs were next to each other. Except that they are not. One must then traverse the labs using these mysterious doors in an exact pattern, with the final door in the pattern not leading to the opposite lab, but actually into the area between these five labs. The elusive MCL0, or informally known as Areesa's Attic. Whether it really was the legendary mage's attic is another matter.

As you can see Paragon, I left out plenty of stuff that you can elaborate on. Also there are plenty of plot hooks in these two locations that you can have fun expanding on for SQs or whatnot. My mind has ran out of inspiration-juice for the time-being regarding the Caretaker and the Ghost NPC, so I'm only putting something minimal here. Feel free to make this your own and add to it :)

[Domain Development] Let's Build Zeltiva Together

Postby Bob Barton on February 1st, 2012, 4:54 pm

You know what Zeltiva needs especially since its the educational schoolish setting? Urban legends! Filled with ghosts, accidents and horrors which is the staple of all things like it today. I bet those academics do not like to believe in ghosts and stuff (unless the university provides spiritism classes too?) As much as I would like to say a whole haunted wing I bet they would resort to getting a ghost duster to get rid of the ghost since it will be a waste of resources so how about...a ghost librarian? :P

Not really a malicious one, maybe an extremely dutiful one who does not take any crap from students, staff and visitors alike abusing library privileges (and so let the horror story begin :() You could also make it mischievous if you want to add some random strange happenings like the rare lab experiment blowing up in your face, falling down the stairs, belongings being tossed into hard to reach places...

It would be funny to see students whispering things about seniors telling them to not take books into the loo in the evening, not to read while walking or something chilly will watch over you, pray to books when you drop them :P Frankly even if this seems like a joke I think it will be quite useful to students who dare to befriend the ghost (especially if its an ancient one) which can teach them history and stuff. Maybe even becoming the unofficial class on its own. XD
