Spring Tournament in Nyka

Every season, Nyka celebrates one of its four reigning Alvina with a festival. This Spring is the Uphis festival, and in honor of the Celestial of Sharp Blades, a tournament will be held. Typically Nyka does not invite foreigners to its sacred events, but if you just so happen to be passing through, you may be invited to participate in the spirit of the season. Alternatively, you could roll a Nykan and you wouldn't even have to travel. ;)

The tournament will begin on 44 Spring. I'm hoping to give you time to get there, if you're interested. Feel free to come to me about travel times.

This event will be different from a regular points-based battle. In Nyka, it is the fighter's strategy and skill that determines the winner, not simply the man who pins the other. This IC philosophy will allow for the tournament matches to be judged by anonymous OOC volunteers. In essence, the writing would be honored above the points. The winner would be the player as much as the character.

This is how it works.

The first ten posts of the fight, five per player, will be scored by a panel of four judges. You may continue the fight after these ten posts, but only the first ten will be considered in your score. You will receive up to 5 points in each of the following categories:

You will receive a score out of 100 points, 25 from each judge. After the round of fights has been completed, your score and an explanation will be posted in a public thread. The higher scorer from each duel will go on to the next round, and the process will repeat.

All tournament threads will also be graded for skills and lores once the players finish (at or after their official ten posts) and submit the thread to me.

I'm looking for judges as well as participants. Judges will be anonymous and should contact me through PM or AIM expressing their interest. I have no idea how many people will be interested so I can't guarantee you a spot.

Ideally, we would have 8 participants. The following are players who have signed up already. (Players whose characters live in Nyka take precedent, but I'm sure there will be plenty of open spots for visitors.)

Hey! I'd love to take place in this tournament! (That is, if you'll be accepting a stranger like Etrius.)
I do have a question about travel times, though. As of the 28th of Winter, Etrius is in the Wildlands near the Talderan border. He does own a horse so he should probably make it to Nyka in plenty of time, right?

Definitely. Nyka is probably around 15-20 horsed days from the Talderan border. Make sure you write an post at the Gates for the exact date of your entrance. :)

I an interested joining in the tournament if possible but I will only be taking the ship from Mura on Spring if that is alright with you.

I'll go ahead and sign you up. That puts us at 8, but I can arrange it to accommodate any number of people. There is always the chance of a drop out too. I encourage anyone who is interested and active to give their go at it.

I'm looking for 1 more participant and 1 or 2 more judges. I know that the participant will be difficult to find, due to the way the storm effects travel, but the judges can be any player from anywhere, as long as they aren't already participating in the fighting.

The Official Announcement will be posted on Saturday, March 10 and the Tournament will begin on Thursday, March 15.
