"Of course it snapped."

Verick eyed his recently-broken spear with contempt. No surprise though; it was a very old, worn thing that hadn't had a pointed tip since he was quite young. "I wasn't even doing anything with it." he said to himself, sounding quite annoyed with the situation. "Guess I should get another." He had been putting off buying a new spear for quite some time, considering how hard it was for mizas to come by these days. Thinking intently to himself, Verick walked around his arvinta, cleaning tiny, sharp splinters of wood off of the floor. There had been very few opportunities for work over the past few years, and Verick had little time for one in the past. However, things were different now, and it was quite evident. A spear might be important in the long run, but it's work that Verick truly needed. Despite this, he decided to take care of both problems at once.

Throwing on his snow-white cloak and opening to the door to his arvinta, Verick took a step out into Frostfawn Hold. The large, open Hold was his home, constantly crawling with different species of animals. Verick was quite happy with this, and was particularly fond of horses. He started on through the Hold, making his way out into the cold air. The stiff, Northern wind felt very fine on Verick's face and seemed to improve his mood slightly. A small smirk sneaked across his face as he trudged along through the wooded area near his Hold.

Verick soon reached his destination: The Frozen Falls Market.

As Verick reached the Frozen Falls Market he would have to wander past various booths before finding the one that held what he was seeking. He stopped in front of a wooden booth that had a few weapons on display and loosely spread across the counter. Most of the weapons were rather chipped or of poor quality though that was common for the isolated North. Most of the metal that managed to be brought there was novice metalworkers and traders hoping to make some money on the commodity that was rare in Avanthal. A spear was leaning upright against the counter and appeared to be in fairly decent condition.

Verick would have to approach and negotiate with the large merchant standing behind the booth’s counter. The man appeared to be quite large though it was difficult to tell if that was only an illusion from his bulky furs. The fact that he was so thickly wrapped in furs and wools made it obvious that he was not native to Avanthal and unused to the cold. Only a tan frowning face with green eyes was visible through the furs.

Verick jingled his coin purse as he strolled through the marketplace. He couldn't help but curiously eye the various stalls crowded with shopkeepers attempting to sell their wares. This curiosity was not so uncommon for him. Frankly, Verick enjoyed the market far too much. Stall after stall, he found some sort of item that enticed him in some way. The clink-clanking of the mizas in his coin purse was more than enough to remind Verick that he had to spend them wisely; meaning, he was to forget about a 20 ft. coil of rope he'd just seen until he had a means of gaining income. However, the replacement for his splintered spear was an entire other matter.

Eventually, Verick found his way to a wooden booth, his eyes first being drawn to a spear that was set against the booth. A smile curved across his face as it became quite apparent this stall was selling weapons. However, Verick became suspicious as he noticed their quality, or rather the lack thereof. Metal being a rare find around this area, he wasn't surprised. That said, he was not going to waste his mizas or trust his life with a shoddy spear. He then noticed the man who was running the place. Sizing him up was impossible, in large part because of the massive amount of fur in his clothing, and his face was not as pale as most others from Avanthal. Obviously, this salesman was not used to the harshness of the North. Verick nodded at the man politely as he gave another quick look at the merchandise and pointed to the spear. "Do you mind if I take a closer look at this?"

((OOC - Edit: Cleaning up some grammar.))

The man looked over Verick with a wary eye before nodding gently. He muttered, “Fine”, in broken Vani and handed the spear over to Verick. The merchant waited patiently while the Vantha man looked over the spear.

“Spear plain but sturdy. Work just fine. Tip sharp.” The man’s Vani was thickly accented but still understandable. Verick would find his words to be true. It was a plain looking spear by anyone’s standards but the tip was sharp and seemed well-fastened to the long shaft.

"How much are you wanting for this?" asked Verick, studying the tip of the spear intently. Sharp enough, he thought. He grabbed the shaft and carefully balanced the weapon in his hands. Good weight to it, too. Verick hoped the man was willing to give him a fair deal. He was somewhat wary of buying things from people who weren't from Avanthal, but he was feeling optimistic. He tapped bottom end of the spear on the ground. "It seems quite sturdy."

The man was quite for a while, perhaps considering what a fair price would be or perhaps just thinking of how to say what he wanted in Vani.

“Seven gold mizas?” he said and his face broke into a large grin. He spread his hands out disarmingly and gripped the edge of his booth delicately through his thick mittens. Blue eyes concentrated on Verick and the spear he was holding. “Nice longspear. Seven good price. I accept that.”

Verick met the man's gaze and laid the spear on the counter in front of him. "You have yourself a deal, friend." he said, undoing the opening to his coin purse. The familiar clink-clanking of the coins returned as his hand messed about inside, until Verick pulled out seven gold mizas. Returning the man's smile, he placed them on the table. Verick put his newly-purchased spear into his right hand and casually held it against his shoulder. "Many thanks!" he exclaimed, as he began to walk away, snow crunching below his feet, adding a subtle wave as he turned his back.

Well that was easy enough.

Aiza made her way through the market, in her mind she was counting how many Mizas each ingredient that the kitchen asked for. She frowned, counting the coins in her palm. She knew she was low this season and because of her own issues she hadn't worked enough to get paid. It was frustrating as it was to have to work like a human, but being forced to live like one just to survive was insane in her mind. If it wasn't for the cold or the danger of being eaten she could just live off the land, no problem. Alas, her body wasn't built for this land. Her mother was a desert cat, and so was she. Trade and slavery got her mother in her fathers care and everything was due to nature from there. Still, she was just a small cat in a big icy world.

The kelvic was lost in her own thoughts, between ways of moving away and going back and forth to counting she didn't pay much attention to the path ahead of her. Nether did human ahead of her. If it was faith, it has a sick sense of humor; if it was just luck, well Aiza was out of it. Ether way the following crash into the boy and the resulting slipping in the ice made her loose almost all her coin. A good six gold pieces to be exact. Now she really had to pump out the hours just to pay rent, or she would have the landlord breathing down her neck. She scrounged around the snow, picking up what she could and stuffing it in her pockets. The feline looked up at the person she bumped into and gave a sheepish smile.

"Oopz... Sorry." She almost mewed her words, they were soft and gentle. Her eyes were round and big as she looked him over curiously before slowly standing, dusting the powdery ice off her cloak. She offered her hand out, as a gesture of good will to help up the person she just knocked over.

Verick walked through the market aimlessly, the various trinkets not really having the same appeal as they did only moments ago. This is only step one! he thought, his eyes turning bright yellow with his happiness. His dreams of one day joining the ranks of the Icewatch were coming into fruition; well, sort of. There was a certain spring in his step and, occasionally, he stole a glance at the light reflecting off of the metallic tip of his spear. As his mind wandered, his legs began to do their own wandering, no longer mattering where exactly he stepped next. He deftly moved out of the way of passing folks, others busy going about their day and tending to their errands. Soon, though, he was brought out of the clouds by a sudden bump, and then a large crunch as he hit the floor. His spear bounced into the snow, leaving an indentation next to a rather human shaped clearing in the snow.

Verick heard a gentle voice apologize. Visibly annoyed, Verick's eyes began to change into a deep blue as he looked up. However, his eyes soon changed to mixture of blue and magenta as he made eye contact with the girl extending her hand to him. Accepting the gesture, Verick stood up and quickly wiped his pants and cloak of snow. He met the strange woman's eyes and noticed something curious about them, namely the obvious black slit in the middle of piercing green. He wasn't sure, but he suspected this girl was of Kelvic origin. This made him all the more calm. "It's not a problem. I wasn't paying any attention to where I was going." he said, calmly.

The feline met eyes with the stranger and she stepped back, looking away from his eyes, but keeping her sight set on him. She looked at his spear, it was intact as far as she could tell and he could turn suddenly violent as some people do. Not so much in Avanthal, but it has happened. Aiza would not want to be a victim of a angry market goer. Her eyes shifted quickly to a guard standing off to one side then to the boy again. His face gave no signs of anger. That was a good sign.

He spoke in the Vantha language. She frowned and tried hard to understand, but just tilted her head. Her next words were in common. "I'm sorry... I really don't know what you're saying..."

The only word she could really get was paying.. and that was only because her parents taught her basic words to run their cart when they would sell things in the market. But even then, it has been so long since she's spoken Vani that she lost most of the words.
