Witnessing Snowy Problems (WiSPers)

If you read the Calendar of Events for Avanthal this season you may have noticed that there are a lot of rumors and strange occurrences happening this season. To facilitate this and makes things a little easier for participation every week a WiSPer or two will be posted. Players may post in a WiSPer so that their character has knowledge of the written event happening. When actual quests/moderated threads start later in the season your character will need to have posted in 2 WiSPers for a particular plot line in order to qualify for the threads. There will be a total of 4 WiSPers posted for each plot line. Quests will be both group and individual based on player interest. I have developed the following Q&A to help explain how this will all work. If you think of a good question that is not listed here, please let me know so I can get it added as other players may have same question.

What is a WiSPer?
A WiSPer (Witnessing Snowy Problems) is a post that describes an event happening that is related to the seasonal plot. Many of these WiSPers will be events listed on the Calendar of Events though unlisted events may be posted as well. WiSPers are merely meant as an opportunity for your character to view and gain knowledge of the event that occurred.

How does my character get involved?
When a WiSPer has been posted all you are required to do is roleplay your character witnessing this event in a single post. Multiple posts are highly discouraged. Each WiSPer will only be available for your character to witness for a very limited time after which the event will be closed and a grade will be posted containing an appropriate social lore rewarding knowledge of this event to your character. A record will also be kept here to track who has witnessed which event.

How long will a WiSPer be available?
Usually WiSPers will be available for roughly a week. However, some WiSPers may be available for longer or shorter times depending on ST discretion. The end date of a WiSPer will ALWAYS be clearly posted in the thread. If an end date is not clearly posted please PM your local ST and yell at them profusely for not doing this. ;)

What if I didn’t get a chance to post in the WiSPer but I want my character to know about what happened?
If you missed a WiSPer but you really want your character to know what happened you will have to thread with a player that DID witness the event and attempt to get the information from them IC. The player who witnessed this event is not required to tell you, give you all the details, or even give you accurate information. If a character you are threading with chooses to spread misinformation to you instead of accurate information please do not be upset with them. Rumors of things are always bound to get distorted and reported incorrectly, intentionally or not. Playing with different information may enhance your experience of events and provide interesting dissonance between players’ reactions and opinions.

If my character is told of the event by word of mouth will count the same as them having actually witnessed the event for when quests begin?
Short answer, no. Long answer, while you may have the information via word of mouth it is unfair to the players who did manage to post in the WiSPer to allow you to have the same advantage as them.

What if I missed a couple WiSPers, will I still be able to participate in quests?
Yes. You are only required to post in a minimum of two WiSPers in order to be involved in the plot. If you miss a couple WiSPers don’t sweat it! As long as you meet the requirements you will be able to play in the quests with the same advantages as everyone else. There will be multiple quests for each plot line and each will have a different requirement.

Is there any special reward for posting in ALL the WiSPers?
No, there are not any special rewards. Many WiSPers will be posted in order for players to have lots of time to meet quest requirements and have the ability to choose WiSPers that they are interested in. Some players don’t have a lot of time to play on Mizahar and I don’t want them to feel punished because they couldn’t post on every single one.

Help! I created my character/my character only arrived in Avanthal late in the season and I wasn’t able to post in many WiSPers. Can I still participate in the plot?
Yes! I will not penalize players whose lack of participation was out of their control. Opportunities to participate will be made available to everyone however those who have posted in the required amount of WiSPers may find more options for participation available to them.

There are several different plot lines occurring this season, can I post in any WiSPer to qualify for quests for the plot that interests me?
No. WiSPers will be divided into groups and will be clearly labeled as to which plot line they are involving. In order to qualify for quests that involve the plot you are most interested in you will need to post in the appropriate group’s WiSPers.

Will WiSPers only be around for Fall or will this system continue to be used in Avanthal?
This season is going to be the test pilot. If things go well and players really seem to enjoy it then the WiSPer system may see use in upcoming seasons. If players dislike it and it turns out to be a hot mess of confusion then we will scrap it and never see it again. For this reason, please do not be afraid to share feedback about how you think things are going and any hiccups you experience. If you really like it or hate it please let me know so I can determine if this quest system should survive to see another season.

As always, if you have any questions please speak to your local ST.
