Hunt for a Healer

Postby Nekana on October 5th, 2012, 7:30 pm

And what did she get for her troubles? The one that smelled like pain and blood thought that Nekana wanted to kill her. She knew that in the streets it was not usual to help a stranger, but she wasn’t on the streets right now. Even if it did feel that way.

‘’N-no! Why would I want tha-‘’

But the woman didn’t seem to listen to her. Nekena guessed that she felt threatened and was protecting herself right now, she certainly looked like it. She could smell the pain rolling of the hurt one in waves and it only made her want to help the stranger more, but it seemed like approaching her would not be a good idea. And then, without a warning she heard two voices from the docks behind her. It seemed like the conversation was suddenly cut short when it reached the ship Nekana was on and it sounded like a person jumped on the ships board.

And as soon as she turned around to face the mystical jumper she felt the cold touch of a steel blade against her throat, not exactly touching it and not cutting the skin, but close enough that she could feel the coldness from it. It was scary. Her eyes widened and she gasped as something was shouted at her in a loud voice that seemed so much louder because of her good hearing and the tenseness of the moment. From the way this person was protecting the boat, it seemed like it was a precious thing to him. He was lean, muscular and his eyes were like an angry storm, all blue and hard and he also smelled of anger and protectiveness. It looked like she was in deep trouble. All that registered in her mind in the small time it took her to gasp. Then she tensed and automatically whined, while shifting her eyes away from the shouter ones and trying to appear as small as possible. Not an easy thing, with Nekana being a bit taller and all, but her dog side was determined that she would get out of this with her skin intact, no matter what it took. Then she tried to answer the question and at the same time inch away from the blade, all while searching for a way to run away with her eyes.

‘’I-I didn’t do anything, I just saw her fall, and then she seemed hurt, and I wanted to help, and I just…’’

/Maybe I should just change? This clothing is worn out, it will be torn without problems… L-let’s just see how it goes./

Hunt for a Healer

Postby Lireal on October 7th, 2012, 4:32 pm

Even as Lireal tried to get up she found as much as she could threaten, she couldn't exactly do anything, sulking she continued her warnings unaware of what had changed, and since the sun was shining down at this angle she had to close her eyes so could only hear, "I warn you now, come near me and I'll be forced to hurt you!" there didn't seem much power in those words, she was kind of stuck.

Sighing she listened intently hearing Kirvan return, and the girls voice plus another, maybe this was all a trap, but still she could hardly leap up and do anything. It didn't help this wood was quite comfortable.

Orion

Orion followed the man onto his boat, listening as he spoke of his untrained treatment of the injured woman. It sounded like she was in pretty bad shape. Before he could reply, however, things began to get out of hand. He scanned the deck of the small craft, raising an eyebrow to the scene before him. A relativity unremarkable woman stood, a confused look on her face, another woman at her feet. But this woman, she was different, Orion noted.

A long, lean body accented by dark green eyes. The thing he couldn't help but notice was the fur. Fur. "...Fur?" He'd never seen anything like it. A humanoid with fur? She couldn't be a Kelvic, for they were fully human when in that form. So what was she?

His attention was taken away when the man he'd traveled with drew his blade and advanced on the intruder. "What the petch is going on?" Orion exclaimed, backing away from the possible danger. He was a doctor, not a fighter, after all. He set his bags down, and found his hand resting on his dagger. If scuffle broke out, he'd defend himself, of course. "I didn't realize you were bringing me to a fight. I thought you were looking for medical help?" The standing woman seemed quite off guard by the blade brought to her neck, and Orion couldn't blame her. "Leave the fighting to the Knights, man. She's not even armed! Let's talk this through?" He smirked, before continuing. "If you get hurt, I'll have to charge more."

Hunt for a Healer

Postby Kirvan Deepseeker on October 8th, 2012, 3:14 am

The intruder shrunk back beneath Kirvan's glare, which held more fury than a raging storm. Usually, he was very friendly towards outsiders, welcoming them as his own kin and talking with them for as long as they found it interesting, but never before had anybody simply invaded his boat. He'd been with it for so long, he was nearly as close to it as his tavan, and Laviku knows how much he loved that whale. This was where he invited newcomers to talk, this was where his friends came to just spend time, this was where he and Leisa lived for days, even if she never intended to stay. For a complete stranger to just walk in without warning or invitation to Kirvan felt like a desecration of all those memories and a forced intrusion into this part of himself.

The woman averted her eyes, almost whimpering with what Kirvan guessed was fear. Though it gave cause for Kirvan to lose any malicious suspicion, it did little to excuse her invasion of his only home. Behind him, the doctor he brought made a surprised exclamation and backed away, as if Kirvan had just turned into a wild wolf, which did little to soothe Kirvan's mood. Was he not allowed to feel defensive of his home? It was something that these land-dwellers did not understand, that these boats were the true homes of the Svefra and were an extension of themselves. How would these land-dwellers feel if they found someone standing within their home uninvited and without warning, just looking around the place? Would they smile and offer them something to drink? He highly doubted it.

"I thought you were looking for medical help?" When the doctor mentioned the reason why he was brought along, Kirvan's eyes flickered over to Lireal, reminded of the reason he came here to Syliras in the first place. She looked to be in bad condition, trying to curl up on the wood of the deck. Worry began to rise inside him, and nearly drowned out the hurricane of rage the frothed within his mind. An intrusion just couldn't be ignored however, and this person clearly didn't think twice about just walking uninvited on someone's boat.

Though what the doctor said was true. She wasn't armed, and Kirvan knew that within this city any justice was to be meted out by the authorities, not by the offended. That said however, he didn't know who the authorities were here in Syliras, and he didn't know whether they would regard an intrusion into someone's boat as seriously as an intrusion into one of their own dwellings of stone and earth. The intruder's eyes darted this way and that, as if looking for a way out.

Kirvan's attention momentarily diverted back to Lireal on the deck, and made a decision. "Can you treat her here?" he asked the doctor, sheathing his cutlass back at his hip. Kneeling down over Lireal, checking her broken arm and leg beneath the bandages. "We can't move her unless we splint her arm at the very least, though I doubt you'll be able to do everything you need to here on the boat."

Before the intruder could do anything, he turned back at her. "Don't think you're going anywhere, I'm still not through with you. Might as well give us a hand while you're at it, though don't be surprised if I still want to cut it off later."

Hunt for a Healer

Postby Nekana on October 9th, 2012, 7:17 pm

Nekana felt the blade slip away from her neck and heard it slide in the sheath. /As long as there are no pointy objects here, I guess I'll stay./ The second person she heard jumping on the board asked something, she didn’t hear exactly what, she was too focused on taking deep breaths and fidgeting with her fingers in order to calm down, but it seemed like it was about the woman on the ships floor. It didn’t look like she was in a fit state to go anywhere, so it made sense when the angry boat-man asked for the… doctor to treat the woman on ground and not to move her anywhere.

Only now did she had enough time to properly look over her. Her clothes were appropriate for the season, so Nekana wasn’t surprised when she saw that most of her skin was covered with clothes, but the patches of skin she saw were… furry? It didn’t seem that unusual, with her walking around as a dog every now and then, but was it normal for humans? Putting it aside, it wasn’t that important at the moment, she continued to study the hurt one. She also had some make-shift bandages at many places, and it seemed like some of them were quite bloody. /Treating her seems pretty urgent./

After asking to treat the hurt one at the ships floor and not move her anywhere the boat-man turned to Nekana and told her that she wasn’t going anywhere soon. The words weren’t as harsh as they could be, but she could still feel protectiveness rolling of the man, although now it seemed like he was calmer. Thank gods for that, if the tension hadn’t gone down a bit, Nekana would have bolted in a matter of seconds. The man was pretty direct about what was expected from her now that she had mistreated his boat, and as long as no harm came to her she was quite ready to help in any way she could. Not that she could do much.

‘’I can t-try to help… I don’t know much about healing or anything, but I can hold something?’’ She really wasn’t very sure what exactly she could do, but as long as somebody would instruct, she would try to do it. Trying not to feel afraid and awkward she continued to fidget with her hands and warily watched what would happen next.

Orion

With the situation somewhat diffused, Orion felt comfortable stepping forward to see what his patient's condition was. He recoiled visibly as he got closer. What the petch is this?, he wondered. Other than the occasional Kelvic, Orion had only really worked on Humans. So he really wasn't sure if there were any injuries beyond the very obvious, but he would have to do what he could, whatever that may be. "I'll do what I can here, but I don't even know what I'm looking at. Assuming the bone structure is the same, I'll splint her up here, and yeah, we'll need to get her back to the Soothing Waters where I can treat her easier. Working on a ship isn't exactly my expertise."

At that, the doctor set his equipment down beside the injured woman, studying her frame. "Similar enough, but I still don't get it," he muttered. His time in Syliras had left him fairly sheltered to other races. Even Sunberth hadn't offered much in a change of scenery as far as that was concerned. He glanced over to the boat's intruder, waving his had somewhat dismissively. "When it comes to this stuff, it's best that the untrained don't bother. No offense."

As he examined the woman, a frown spread across his lips while he took note of her condition. Her arm was broken for sure, that was visible enough. He gently touched her side, checking her ribs for damage, and from the likely sound of pain he'd elicit, they were fractured at the least. The bones were one thing, he'd need to treat those wounds. Deep claw marks all over the woman's body, it was amazing she was still breathing. "These wounds complicate things. I can't work on the arm because once I get it where I want it, it will cover these wounds," he said, motioning to a particularly vicious gash on her chest. "So here's what we're gonna do." He stood up, grabbing his bags and carrying them off the boat before climbing back on to deliever his instructions. "Looks like I do have a use for you, my green eyed intruder." He looked over to the man who'd brought him here. "My apologies, i haven't got your name. I'd rather not call you 'you'. I'm Orion." He nodded in a belated greeting. "It's gonna hurt her like petch, but we need to move her off the boat. I'll support the top, that's where the most damage is. What I need you to do is step in between her legs with your back facing me, and when I say lift, do so, making sure to keep her upper legs and hips supported. The majority of the damage is to the upper body, so we need to keep it stable." He turned his attention back to the other woman, speaking plainly to her. "What I need you to do is to make sure her arm stays as stationary as possible. Until I can work on it, I don't want it moving around. So as we lift, you make sure the arm doesn't change position relative to her body."

The doctor positioned himself at her head, bending at his knees, getting his arms in position to raised the severely injured woman. "You two got it?"

Hunt for a Healer

Postby Kirvan Deepseeker on October 18th, 2012, 7:02 pm

Kirvan watched as the doctor, now satisfied that the wild Svefra had calmed, moved in to examine his patient. He seemed somewhat startled at the clearly inhuman - or at least only partially human - victim, much as Kirvan had been when he first found Lireal in that cove. The Svefra saw the doctor gently feel his way around her injuries, listening to the learned man's diagnosis as he came across his findings. "That bad?" he asked rhetorically. This was sounding more serious by the second, much more serious than Kirvan had ever encountered. Among the Deepseeker pod, broken bones and gashes weren't exactly uncommon, but they were usually battle-sustained injuries that were isolated and on their own not very threatening. This was the first time that he'd seen life-threatening damage, and the Svefra did not like how it looked.

The man's gentle treatment of his patient reminded Kirvan of his buddy Durk, and instantly wished the big guy was here. He was probably the best medic that the Deepseeker pod had ever had, a passionate doctor with a soft spot for learning. Had he been here, he could have treated Lireal as soon as they had found her broken and bloodied in the cove. This all would have been behind them. Alas, he was not, and this was not, but the doctor he had found seemed to be doing an equally good job.

"She said she's a Zith, or a half-Zith, if that means anything," Kirvan offered, leaning over the two of them. Lireal seemed bad, why couldn't she just have stayed in bed?

Standing up suddenly, the doctor amicably introduced himself, somewhat awkwardly as well what with the injured woman still in pain on the deck. "Kirvan," the Svefra replied. "We can trade stories later." Standing calmly, he listened to Orion's plan to get Lireal off the boat, nodding in understanding as he explained that she should remain as still as possible. Movement could potentially jostle bones and damage her even more, and that was thus last thing she needed right now. Following the doctor's instructions, he gently wrapped his arms around Lireal's rhombus and braced himself for the movement. "Do you have a stretcher?" he asked. "Also, should we remove the bandages?"

Noticing the intruder standing back, his mood boiled again. "Come on, do as he says!"

Hunt for a Healer

Postby Lireal on October 21st, 2012, 10:31 am

Half aware and awake during all this, the prodding and touching reminded me of times in camp, when broken people were brought, they examined by all the elders, those who didn't become slaves, were killed right there. It made her squeamish just thinking about it. Tilting her head she saw the ground moving, felt the lifting and without warning just vomited on to the ground next to her, maybe it was the pain, maybe it was the memory of her live. Whatever the cause, she had found herself unable to fight it.

Everything everywhere was in striking pain, she found she had to bite her tongue to fight back tears. Part of her almost wished she had died earlier, nothing felt relieving, her whole body wracked with excruciating soreness. Finding herself unable to fight it, she turned her head and vomited again, before falling unconscious, the pain finally knocking her out.

Orion

When the brown haired woman didn't react at all to his commands, the doctor had had enough. "There's no time for your indecision," he exclaimed, irritation clear in his voice. "If you're not going to help, then stay of the way." This woman was in dire straits. To not offer help, it was absurd. To not even speak when asked to? That was even worse. Maybe I should have allowed my sailor friend here to do what he wanted to do. It wasn't a pleasant thought, but it was annoying that she hadn't done anything. The last thing he needed was someone getting in the way making things worse.

"I'll try and stabilize the arm myself. No, I don't have a stretcher. We'll have to make due with this carry technique. As for the Zith? Never seen one, only heard horrible things. She's a living creature, though, so I'll do what I can. I just want to get her off this rocking boat before I start working on her. I'll deal with the bandages then." With that, the doctor nodded. "On three. One. Two. Three." On three, supporting her neck and back with his arms, while awkwardly trying to keep her army stead, the doctor lifted straight up, bringing her to waist level. "Nice and easy. Take it slow. I want to avoid making any of this injuries worse, and I especially don't want to create any new ones." The woman finally seemed to give up under the pain, her writhing finally coming to an end. It was probably for the better as she was likely to cause herself more injury by moving about. It was a concern that it wasn't just the pain that caused her to black out, though.

After making their way off the boat, Orion led them to a spot a ways from the water before speaking. "Alright, this place is flat enough. We'll set her here, and I'm going to run back and grab my equipment from your craft. Ready? Be gentle. One. Two. Three." Bending at his knees, he helped slowly lowered the injured half Zith woman to the ground. "There we go." With a glance at the woman, and then to Kirvan, he nodded. "I'll be right back." He turned and began making his way briskly towards the boat. I don't know how similar these are to humans. I wonder if her half part is human... This was going to test his skill as a physician, if nothing else. He only hoped he could do something to help.

Hunt for a Healer

Postby Kirvan Deepseeker on November 13th, 2012, 11:39 pm

Kirvan was overtaken with rage for a moment at the intruder's uselessness, but that quickly subsided when he heard Orion begin counting. Holding each leg gently yet firmly, he timed his lift with the doctor until Lireal was more or less even at their waist height. Heeding his advice, Kirvan slowly and carefully helped Orion get the half-zith onto the jetty, adeptly handling the transition from moving deck to solid dock, and then carrying her a bit farther resting her on the ground. He had no idea what to do now, and trusted the doctor to take care of it. Their activity earned a few glances from passerby, but the svefra youth didn't care.

When the doctor left, Kirvan sat down next to Lireal's head, looking concernedly at the injured lass. "Why'd you move?" he asked, worriedly. "You're bad enough as it is. Just sit tight, the doctor'll be right back." He hoped that was true, looking back at the city towards which Orion had ran.
