31st of Fall, 512 AV
Syliras Docks

Loosening the jibsheets, Kirvan nudged the tiller back and forth as he maneuvered his boat through the ships docked in Syliras in the morning light. The path wasn't quite maze-like, but it was certainly among the busier of the areas Kirvan had manage, which was why he told Ster to stay back as they neared the port. Despite all the activity, fishermen readying boats and workers unloading cargo, people still found enough time and energy to glance warily at the casinor as it wove in and out between the bigger ships, pegging him as someone to keep an eye on. He'd grown used to it a long time ago however, and it didn't get him too down, especially since in the past many of his acquaintances were among those who distrusted him at first. This wasn't just an ordinary visit though, there was something a little more urgent in this particular arrival.

Tired, he began reefing the sails as the boat glided alongside the pier. He'd spent the greater portion of the night awake and at the tiller, not trusting the sea to just take him where he wanted. Kirvan's movements were a little sluggish as he grabbed the lines and hopped onto the dock, tying them to the available cleats and mooring his boat. His bowlines were nice and tight, an example of how habit shone through even fatigue. Stretching his tired muscles, the Svefra did his best to wake his body up before he began his search. Looking out at the city of Syliras, he wondered where to start.

Only a few hours ago, Kirvan had come across a badly wounded half-zith abandoned in a cove not too far from Syliras. Broken limbs, gashes and cuts, bruises and scrapes, her entire body was a map of pain and agony. He'd fixed her up as best he could, but she would need more than that if she was going to recover fully. Kirvan had neither the supplies nor the experience to do so himself, which is what brought him to Syliras. Now that he was here, his task was to find a healer or doctor, anyone who could help. Doing so would be harder than it seemed though, seeing as he had never actually set foot any farther in Syliras than the docks, but he had to try.

Hopping back aboard his casinor, the Svefra entered his cabin and found Lireal, the half-Zith, still sleeping in the small bed. Her near-death experience had probably taken a lot out of her, her body probably taking the time to repair itself as best it could on its own, so Kirvan decided it was best to leave her asleep. He fetched some parchment from the boxlike chest beside the bed, then using the chest as a writing table left a note for Lireal should she wake up while he was away. Gone to look for healer, he wrote, wait here until I return. Placing the note beside his sleeping guest, he left her alone and climbed back onto the dock.

Memories came flooding back. He hadn't been here for two years, but he remembered the last time as if it had happened yesterday. A young Inarta standing on the pier, standing opposite a Svefra she'd just spent most of the last season with. An exchange of gifts, an old promise.

Kirvan shook his head, returning to the task at hand and delving into the city. There would be time for that later.

Hunt for a Healer [Lireal, Nekana, Balderdash]

Postby Nekana on September 29th, 2012, 6:48 pm

Sometimes there were just days when Nekana didn’t want to do anything, and this was a perfect example. The thing was, it wasn't that Nekana just didn’t want to do nothing all day, she just didn’t want to do anything hugely important or hard to do. She wanted to take a break, relax herself a bit, do something slightly easier. The Kelvic still wasn’t quite used to having to decide everything for herself. Oh well, there wasn't anything too pressing right now, so she may as well go and wander around for a bit. After lazily pulling on her clothes, which had been thrown on the only chair in the room the night before, she walked out of door and just walked in the direction of the freshest air. Sure the city was interesting and filled with exciting smells and sights, but well the air wasn’t all that good.
She wasn't in a hurry, so she lazily whistled while walking. The day was warm for Fall in Syliras so she was in good mood. With happily squinted eyes (it really looked better on her dog form, but she didn’t think to change in her dog form at the morning, and she didn’t have any place where to put her clothes, so she was stuck in her human form), she walked around the town. The smells were getting fishier and there was this particular smell in the air. It was something like tar, lots of wood and unwashed bodies. Lots of unwashed bodies. After passing a pub, which was probably the place of unwashed bodies, she walked into the port. The change from streets with shops to a port was quite sudden and the smells hit Nekana with their full fishy force.

The port was quite welcoming actually, it was pretty busy, as all ports are, but still it didn’t give off the air of unwelcome that was quite popular in busy places. The air didn’t seem all that fishy after a few seconds and Nekana started to walk along the ships. There weren’t that many of them, but there still were quite a few to walk past. Almost all of them had at last a few people on the board.

Hunt for a Healer

Postby Lireal on September 30th, 2012, 6:44 pm

Waking up she carefully propped herself up, it had been a one day so though the pain was still horrible in all ways. Still she could at least move about (with difficulty) but still able to do it. Which was a marked improvement, she had noticed Kirvan had tried to stay away from her, but sometimes she saw him come in and just look in at her, with a wistful look on his face. There was something behind the façade he wore.

Nonetheless it didn't matter, she wasn't going to get a chance to find out, he had made it very clear that he couldn't care for her, the words that had made her angry was, "I can't care for you, I don't have the money to care for myself often." she knew he was right, but she loathed the idea of coming here, her parents home was about 4 hours out of town.

Being this close made her remember the looks.

Getting up out of bed she limped into the sunlight, hearing the squawking of sea-gulls while the breeze fondled exposed flesh. It was unwise to be so out in the open, but she needed to exercise to heal up. It's what her clan had taught her, if injured make sure the limb gets plenty of exercise and rest, as one without the other could make it unusable.

Stretching her arms up she spun a little, a little happy over how things had turned out.

Screaming in pain, she fell on the deck twitching, still wasn't strong enough for that, the walking had taxed her too much.

Hunt for a Healer

Postby Orion Michaels on October 2nd, 2012, 5:18 am

Orion, Day of Fall 31, 512 AV

Orion was sitting around in the Soothing Waters, waiting for something, anything to happen. The young doctor had learned people of profession had an interesting dilemma to face. Someone must be ill for him to have a purpose, so while he would go days bored, he couldn't help but find himself preferring it over the alternative. So wait he would, for chime after chime. He was counting everyone after all.

"It's still petching annoying." The blue eyed man yawned. It was early yet. He'd barely been in for more than thirty chimes, but it didn't matter. It had appeared that the entire city of Syliras had taken a few days off of getting injured. Are they actually listening to our advice to watch out and take care of themselves? He doubted it, but a doctor could dream, right?

Orion crossed his arms, taking a seat by his exam table. Facing the door, he watched and hoped someone would cross the threshold and save him from his boredom. Hopefully she'd be good looking, too.

Hunt for a Healer

Postby Kirvan Deepseeker on October 3rd, 2012, 2:53 am

Kirvan was lost.

He'd learned of where he should go pretty quickly. Inquiring a few of the residents as to a doctor or healer, they soon recommended the Soothing Waters after they'd gotten over their wariness of the Svefra. A few more tidbits of conversation later and Kirvan was jogging through the citadel on his way to the Nettle District. As Kirvan passed through the crowded city streets, he marveled at the sheer size of this place. Having spent his entire life out on the sea, he'd only ever regarded this place from afar, or at the very nearest from the docks. Up close, these walls were much more daunting. His knowledge of stonework was nil, but as far as he could tell these walls could withstand the wrath of a god for how solidly they were built.

Getting to the fortress was simple enough, there only being a few roads outside the giant fortress districts, but once he arrived it was a different story altogether. As previously mentioned, Kirvan spent his entire life at sea, where his destination was always within easy sight and to get there all he needed to do was shift the tiller slightly. Never had he lived through anything that could have prepared him for this. While a decent navigator at sea, this kind of navigation was entirely new to him, and soon he was lost within the labyrinth of passages and hallways. Every corridor looked like the last, and sometimes it was almost as if shops had packed up and moved elsewhere entirely for all the times he ran across the same petching ones.

He frequently asked for directions, and this far away from the docks where his Svefra background was slightly less obvious people were quicker to help. However, though people usually gave Kirvan explicit directions, he found that he could never follow them very well and more often than not ended up right back where he started. Eventually he got the hand of it, his inner compass coming back to life as he logically thought of which directions he'd gone in before, and as he began to learn of this new kind of logical compass the amount of time he spent backtracking grew smaller and smaller. He still couldn't find the baths though.

On the verge of giving up, he emerged into a vibrant courtyard, a welcome change of scenery after what felt like miles of corridors but was probably only a few hundred yards. There, sitting on one wall, were the great double doors, Kirvan's destination, as if placed there by Laviku himself after finally taking pity on his almost directionless son. Pushing the doors open, Kirvan wasted no time in descending into the facility proper, eyes darting around as he looked for who to talk to.

"Hello there. What can I-" began the receptionist.

"Are there any doctors available? I have an injured woman down by the docks and she needs treatment as soon as she can," Kirvan almost shouted, rushing towards the man and cutting him off abruptly. He would apologize for his rudeness later, the sooner this was done the better for Lireal.

OOCSorry for the lack of activity guys, I got caught up elsewhere. Nekana, what exactly what do you want to do with your post? Orion, is this entrance to the Soothing Waters acceptable? Can you take the next part?

Hunt for a Healer

Orion

At this point, Orion had nearly dozed off. Boredom overtaking him, it was difficult to keep his eyes open, and a short nap couldn't anything, right? It couldn't have been more than a minute when he was startled awake when a slight commotion out in the reception area echoed throughout the halls. Something about someone being injured was what the young doctor could discern from the talking. "Finally!" he exclaimed, grabbing up his doctor's bag in one hand and his healer's kit in the other, before heading out of his office to see who was calling for help. It was the most exciting thing in days, so there was no way he was going to let anyone else take this job from him.

"I've got this," he told the receptionist before looking to the man standing before him. A couple inches shorter than he was, with dirty blond hair. Blue eyes. Most annoyingly, he didn't appear to have any injuries, so he must not be the one actually hurt. Though half disappointed, he hid it as best he could before addressing the man. "What seems to be the problem? Who's injured?" He set his bags down, awaiting a reply. He didn't mean to sound irritated or short with the man, but his words came out as such anyways. One of those days. No, tons of those days. Get me out of here! He wanted to yell those words out, but in front of the person who gave him his job, he decided against it. "We should move quickly, right?"

Lireal

Shaking herself she mumbled something before hearing the voice laced with concern, confused she slowly stood up, twitching as the muscles strained to keep her up. She was being stupid, but curiosity and confusion forced her to try and reply, "Why you ask, you wish to finish me off!"

It wouldn't surprise her if this way the case, she had been saved, but being left alone had put her in a dangerous situation. Although she would still make them hurt if they tried this. Waiting she broke the silence by yelling, "I may be nearly dead, but I can take you no matter what."

Her defences were up and she was ready to attack whoever came on board.

Everything hurt, everything screamed, and all these sounds rocked in her head, causing her grit her teeth and try bare and endure it. Nothing would stop her from hurting whoever tried to finish the job, not physical pain, mental or emotional.

Nothing.

Hunt for a Healer

Postby Kirvan Deepseeker on October 4th, 2012, 5:55 pm

"I got this," said a voice to Kirvan's left. He turned to face the new man, a slender black-haired fellow a couple inches taller than Kirvan, which caused a quick jealous twinge within the Svefra. He seemed eager - strangely so - and somewhat impatient to get started, his blue eyes piercing something of a frustrated energy into Kirvan's own gentler ones. Under most circumstances Kirvan would be interested to learn more, such was his curious nature, but he couldn't afford to just waste time talking.

The doctor asked the situation in short and a somewhat irritated tone, suggesting he wanted something to do as soon as he could. Kirvan was only too happy to comply. "I found a woman, Lireal, badly injured and bruised in a cove about half a day north of here," a moderately anxious Kirvan explained. "I brought her down in my boat, but she's too weak to move. She's still there at the docks."

In the doctor's eyes, Kirvan could see something ready to burst, some kind of tension, but he couldn't dwell on it. "Yes, as quickly as possible," he answered, bounding back up the steps and into the courtyard, leaving the man to pick up his bags and follow at a brisk pace.

Business hadn't slowed down on the third tier. Everywhere there were crowds of people moving from place to place, coming through one corridor only to go through another, everyone moving as if they knew exactly where they were going. In the courtyard itself, people were just sitting around and talking, drawn to one of the solitary patches of nature within the fortress.

Unfortunately for Kirvan, he had no idea which way he had come from, try as he might to remember. Every hall looked exactly the same, and even though there were hanging signs marking various storefronts the Svefra could not for the life of him remember which way to go.

"Um," he said, tentatively. "Don't suppose you know which way to the docks?"

Hunt for a Healer

Orion

Injured and bruised, huh? If she'd been injured for awhile now, it could get messy. They needed to act quickly to help whoever this was. Untreated injuries could be deadly, and if Orion could do anything to stop it he would. Unusual one, this guy. Not many would pick up a stranger and bring them here like this. The blue eyed doctor picked his bags up, nodding as the blond haired man spoke.

Left alone at the docks, injured and probably frightened, Orion wondered just who the woman was. Well, maybe not who she was, but it was out of the norm to be outside of Syliras alone like that. She'd been lucky that this man was sailing around at the time. Otherwise the worst may have happened. Orion frowned at the thought.

Following the man, it was quickly clear, he didn't have a clue where he was going. Probably doesn't dock at Sylrias often As if on cue, the man asked his question. "Yeah, I know where it's at, follow me." He led the other man out of the courtyard, the crowds of people uninteresting to one
used to the environment. Out of that area, through the Bittern District, and there they would be, at the docks. Orion didn't go there often, there was little need, but as compact as Syliras was, it wasn't too hard to get around after you got used to it. "So what's in this for you? Just an act of kindness? Or is she a looker?" Orion asked, smirking. It may be a joke in poor taste, but Orion couldn't fault the man if it were true. After all, the young doctor would be likely to do something based on that.

As the two arrived at the docks, Orion looked over to man who had sought him out. "Well, where are we going?" The sooner he could get him to the injured woman, the sooner he could try and prevent any permanent injury. More importantly, he could make sure she lived.

Hunt for a Healer

Postby Kirvan Deepseeker on October 5th, 2012, 4:56 am

Grateful for the leadership, Kirvan followed the doctor without question, trusting the resident's sense of direction over his own. He moved through the passages at a quick pace, and though Kirvan had no trouble keeping up it was a tad difficult to maneuver through the sea of people, some areas more crowded than others. Until now, the only thing he had to maneuver was through waves, and usually he did that by running a boat over them. Not an option here.

After a dozen chimes or so, they emerged from the fortress. Kirvan was glad to be out of the maze-like layout at last. That is, until he realized that the doctor was leading him right into another. Inwardly groaning, Kirvan followed close behind his guide, careful to always remain near lest he lose sight of him and get lost for good. So focused was Kirvan on following the doctor that he barely registered the question. Memories of Leisa came rushing forward again, a wave of emotion that he rarely felt,

"I'm not looking for anything - or anyone - right now," he answered surprisingly solemnly. Ignoring the curious look the doctor gave him, he followed close behind until they once again emerged into sunlight. Finally, they were out for good, or at least until they moved Lireal somewhere indoors. Regardless, they were at the docks now, and Kirvan knew his way around here well enough.

"This way," he responded to the prompt, this time leading the doctor instead of following through the crowds of people. "I managed to perform some very basic first aid, wrapping her in makeshift bandages from a torn sail," Kirvan explained as he led the doctor out onto the jetty towards his casinor. "I'm not a medic, not by a long shot, so I don't carry many supplies on me. At the very least she'll need dressing, and-"

Kirvan cut himself off when he saw the scene within his boat. Lireal was collapsed on the ground, barely able to move, but most importantly not in bed. She was badly injured for Laviku's sake! Two broken bones and she still didn't that maybe she should rest. Did she not read the note he left?

But what caught Kirvan's attention and held onto it with both hands was the stranger aboard his boat. A relatively tall woman - taller than him at least - was standing there looking down at Lireal. Kirvan had never seen her before, but she just went and invaded his boat like that? Who would dare disrespect someone's boat in such a manner?

Leaping aboard, he quickly drew his cutlass and brought it up close to the neck of the intruder, his once calm blue eyes now savage and wild, churning like a storm at sea. "Who are you?" he asked, half-shouting the words. "What are you doing on my boat?"

OOCI think Nekana and then Lireal should post next, give Nekana a chance to react to both Lireal's post and this one, and then maybe a short post from Lireal to state her reactions to these developments. Sound good?
