Built into the cliffs overlooking the Suvan Sea, Riverfall resides on the edge of grasslands of Cyphrus where the Bluevein River plunges off the plain and cascades down to the inland sea below. Home of the Akalak, Riverfall is a self-supporting city populated by devoted warriors. [Riverfall Codex]

Sama'el wasn't sure of Kavala's methods either, but he knew her motives to be generous. The Konti kept intimating that Mealla had feelings for him, but he would hear it from the girl's mouth before he believed it. She had not acknowledged it, but she had started to open up. Then Kavala stepped in, suggesting hand-holding and eye-gazing, which might have helped if he was attempting to woo Mealla instead of prepare her for the Watch.

All the same, he stood up to close the distance between them as the Konti left to commune with Ronan. He was glad this drama would not get in the way of his brother's own romance, and if he hadn't been so focused on Mealla, he might have grinned at their departure, or wondered how she could talk about hidden feelings when she was still being a touch coy with Ronan -- but that wasn't his business.

As he approached, though, all he saw in Mealla's eyes was horror, and then nothing as she passed out. He blinked at her, then glanced over his shoulder, but Ronan and Kavala were making amorous noises out in the hallway. He sighed and laid her out more comfortably on the couch before sitting down beside it, his back to it so he could glance over his shoulder at her.

Perhaps when she woke up, she would want to continue where they had left off, but he had the sinking sensation she would just be the more embarrassed and clam up again.

OOCI suppose if Mealla's not going to wake right up, we should cede the thread to Ronan and Kavala's adult fun fun time. Seems like in later threads they still need to work things out, anyway. Either way is cool with me.

Kavala grinned at Ronan and chuckled slightly, pulling him closer for a hug. "You smell like a horse." She complained, then gently brushed his lips with hers, kissing him softly almost shyly. She wrapped her legs around his waist, held him against her, and chuckled.

"But then again, I like the way horses smell."
She confessed, and then brushed a lock of his hair out of his eyes, noting it was getting a little long for his tastes yet again. Ronan was probably the only Drykas that refused to wear his hair long unless hard riding prevented him from having the time to get it trimmed.

"How was the Sea this time? What did you see? What news did you bring?"
The Konti said softly, smiling at Ronan a little tiredly, but focused wholly on him. And while Kavala wasn't always warm and loving, sometimes guarding herself closely, there were times like this that she was openly affectionate. She took a long few chimes to enjoy his hug and any affections he might want to reciprocate.

The Healer rolled her eyes at Ronan and answered his question though, before asking him any more of her own. "Nothing's gotten into me. I can't decide if I like Mealla or not. She doesn't seem to be the type that Sam would take for an apprentice, squeamish with the sight of blood and all, but I can tell... anyone can tell really, she's got feelings for him. Is she really Drykas? She doesn't remind me of any of our people." Kavala said almost beneath her breath, whispering now. She brushed her lips across Ronan's again then paused, tilting her head.

"Do you hear that? Nothing.. .they aren't even whispering."
She said, pushing gently at Ronan, releasing him and hopping off the counter. Kavala walked around the corner that gave them privacy in the kitchen to take a quick peak. She saw Mealla slumped on the couch and Sama'el sitting there silently.

Gods. What now? Kavala thought, then jogged into the commons again, took one look at Mealla, and crossed the room to a chest sitting against a far wall corner. She popped it open, rummaged through the emergency supplies and scrolls, and pulled out a small wrapped tube. Kavala crossed back over to girl and Sama'el, and uncorked a tiny glass vial of liquid under the girls nose. The rancid smell of gas permeated the air beneath and could do no less than wake her abruptly.

"It's made from mare's urine." Kavala explained. "Highly and toxically concentrated with water after its been distilled down and passed through a salt water brine to get a solid. Mix the solid with water again, expose it to air.. and you get smelling salts. There's nothing salty about it though." Kavala said, watching the girl with concern. She was standing directly behind the couch, leaning over the limp girl. "You're going to have to toughen her up if just a little stress on her system like this makes her faint. She won't last long in the field as a Watch like this." Kavala commented to Sam, raising her eyebrows.

He laughed back, returning her kiss in kind, one brushed against her lips, and one to the side of her neck. When she pushed a lock of hair away, he was reminded of how much it had grown, and how he needed a haircut. He kept his hair much like his brother had, short, tidy, and he liked it that way.

He relished her happiness, and her willingness to share. It was a warmth he could truly enjoy. His arms remained wrapped around her, and he gave her another feather light kiss.

"Uneventful," he said softly, "Mealla was... well, there was a little tension during the journey. But it seems you've got that all worked out. I spent some time training too. In reimancy mainly."

He pulled back a little, though not much and still holding her, as she spoke of Mealla. There was conflict in her words. Clearly, Kavala wasn't taken by the Drykas girl.

"As I said. There was tension. But she's a Drykas girl, alright. Despite the fainting and fawning, she's usually a rather boisterous one. You know, she's more like you than you'd care to admit." His mouth turned into a slight smile at that.

Both women were bundles of idiosynchronicities. Things that collided, making their spirits so raw and real in temperament.

"You're right," he finally said. Silence. As she unfurled from him and walked down the corridor, he followed from behind. When she suddenly rushed into the common room, he sped up too, to see the slumped figure as he entered.

Sama'el had shifted her slightly into comfort, and as he shared a fearful glance with his brother, the Konti rushed across the room to grab her things. He raised an eyebrow at her explanations, but it strangely made sense. Nothing like horse urine to rouse the senses.

The smell hit them all, permeating the room. How long had it been bottled up for, he wondered? If nothing else, this would surely wake Mealla. She hadn't fainted over blood this time, so what had she blacked out too? Was she ill?

Kavala's words to Sama'el were harsh, just sharp enough on the edges to barb him with their tone. She was right though. Whatever was going on had to be confronted, or her apprenticeship was in peril.

"What happened?" he asked, shaking his head, though he stood back to allow Kavala to do her job. He folded his arms, nose scrunched, as he waited for the terrible odour to do its job. He was curious too, wondering if Mealla would speak when she came to.

[Sanctuary] Know Who Your Friends Are

Postby Mealla Stormsong on November 23rd, 2012, 6:20 pm

Mealla awoke with a jolt, instantly recoiling from the irritating smell, her nose wrinkling, her body and mind suddenly alert - too alert - as she glanced around and scrambled upright, breathing still much too fast. One hand accidentally grabbed Sama’el’s thigh instead of the sofa’s arm, and she recoiled once again, sliding as far away as she could, the past events flooding back to her mind – the suggested hand-holding and eye-gazing and confessing of feelings that weren’t quite there, and the fact that she had slipped so majorly. Gods no. The gods say that it wasn’t real and that it was just a dream, because she wasn’t entirely sure how she was going to face Sama’el after this. If he hadn’t hated her before, then he definitely did now for making a fool of him in front of his friends. After all, who did that? Perhaps, once they were back in Endrykas, she’d ask for a transfer. It would be the best thing for both of them.

She purposely ignored everyone in the room, much too embarrassed, back to staring at her knees, although she was all too aware of the fact that her cheeks were a bright red. So much for being a proud Drykas. Drykas didn’t faint. Well, they weren’t meant to be queasy about blood, but they definitely didn’t faint when things became too much. There would be no more of them left if they all did that, but there was no way that she was ready to open herself up to Sama’el and even admit that she was mildly attracted to him. She desperately wanted those feelings gone, because they were messing with who she was, confusing her, making everything impossible. It was no wonder that she couldn't function, and no wonder that she was failing at everything she put her foot to.

Finally she could bear it no longer, and she stood with a quick, “I’m going to check on Andraste. She’s not good at being in strange places,” and fled the room without so much as a backwards glance.

Later.

She'd deal it all later, but now.

Later.

[Sanctuary] Know Who Your Friends Are

Well.

The abrupt waking had put her even further out of sorts, it seemed, and his quiet assurances that she was fine couldn't derail Kavala's healing nature. So her body and mind only had the shortest of spaces to regain equilibrium, which they didn't. Then his thigh got grabbed, which he didn't exactly mind, and then she was off again.

Sama'el definitely had a blind spot where women were concerned.

When she was gone, he glanced to Kavala and Ronan, and sighed.

"I'm going to give her a bit to calm down, and then talk to her." He smiled tightly. "Good to see you again, Kavala." And, with that, he followed Mealla out.

OOCIf Kavala and Ronan wanna continue, that's cool, but otherwise we can put it up for grading if y'all want!

Kavala watched the scene unfold, Mealla lunging upwards, ignoring her presence entirely, and then storming out. If the Konti hadn't surged backwards, she would have gotten run over by the Drykas. She watched Sam equally not deal with the situation then and there and knew that Sama'el definitely had some issues on his hands.

It was Kashik all over again. She'd seen it once before, trouble was real trouble.

But it was none of her business. Not really. Deep within Kavala hoped that they wouldn't bring the woman back. The Sunsingers were like family to her, but she'd had to deal with a situation very very similar to this one once before and it had ripped at her family. She wasn't really willing to deal with another, especially on that level.

Kavala glanced at Ronan after they both left, her displeasure written all over her face. But she said nothing. There was no point to it. Instead, she offered to help him set up camp if they needed the assistance and inquired about the health of their mounts and if anything was needed in terms of medical treatment for any of them. She wouldn't discuss Mealla again.

Additional Notes :
What a wonderfully eventful thread! I greatly enjoyed how Mealla threw this wrench into what otherwise may have been a smooth and perhaps more banal social thread with her bubbling emotions and fears. I couldn't help but grin at Kavala telling off the men and how this turned into a very gender separated discussion. It was a nice insight into the social pressures of Drykas from four Drykas based characters, yet a very outsider perspective was given as well. If you guys have any questions about xp or lore, pm me and we'll sort it out. Very nice little drama filled gathering.
