Ice Treader The Ice Treader is the name of Lasheela Coolwater’s boating business. The business is located in a boat whose hull was damaged beyond repair. The boat was dragged onto land and Ice Reavers froze several layers of ice around it so that it would remain stationary. A door was cut into the side of the boat and leads into the former crew cabin which has been converted into Lasheela’s office. The rest of the boat is used to hold trade goods when they first come into Avanthal. Lasheela can be found here most of the time going over paperwork or speaking with boat owners. The Ice Treader is a new addition to Avanthal, converted for Lasheela’s use in Summer of 512 after it became obvious with the increased water trade that she would need a formal space in which to do her work. Avanthal has traded on the western coast of Mizahar for a long time but found demand for trade greatly increased after the Spring Djed Storm of 512 when many cities needed extra assistance in cleaning up. Avanthal was also hit hard by the Djed Storm and very eager to trade new supplies to help rebuild what had been lost. With the increased demand for ships and crews many merchants decided to put their vessels under Lasheela’s care along with all the fishing and whaling ships she already oversaw. An important note is that Lasheela does not own the boats, she merely sees to organizing rosters and maintaining proper counts to ensure that all boats have returned safely to harbor each day. Lasheela also informs Icewatch of missing boats, keeps track of daily catches and what comes back on the seasonal trade boat, and acts as a broker for new sailors to work on the various boats. Each season a boat laden with art and the beautiful white furs unique to the Avanthal region sets sail for the western coast of Mizahar. The trade boat carries sailors, several of which are advanced Ice Reavers who help break up the ice on the sea when it is too thin and help lift the boats onto ice when it is thick enough to glide over with the specialized skis that Avanthal boats are equipped with. It takes almost an entire season to make a round trip and when the ship comes in many Avanthalians gather to see what exotic goods will be available in the city. The trade ship typically has room for three passengers who wish to travel to distant cities or who wish to come from those distant cities to visit Avanthal. She runs the boat company at the Port of Avanthal. She is a bit crafty and likes to see how much money she can get out of someone for a boat ride. Her father has constantly told her to stop tricking the tourists into paying more than they need to for boat rides but she continues to try and over charge them. Lasheela is always looking for new boaters to add to her company. Although she is sneaky with her work she is really a nice woman to spend time with. She tends to be a bit of a tomboy but she is still pined after by many of the men who frequent the port. (NPC) Fieth : Name: Fieth Race: Inarta DoB: Summer 64, 499 AV PoB: Wind Reach Title: Assistant to Leeshela Skills: Organizing 15, Fishing 10, Sailing 5, Negotiation 12, Writing 8 Fieth is the result of one night between her Dek mother and her Avora father. Fieth never knew her father and hardly saw her mother having been given up early to be raised in a Nursery. As Fieth grew older she had some concerns about her future, as she had never been chosen as an apprentice and seemed to be heading towards the path of a Dek. Unwilling to take that fate easily, and rather in the mood for a grand and thrilling adventure, the bold young girl smuggled aboard a Vantha ship in the Summer of 512 that had come down to work out trade agreements. The boat was several days away from Wind Reach when Fieth made her presence known to the rest of the crew who had little choice but to take her with them. When the boat reached Avanthal the crew turned Fieth over to Lasheela, unsure of what to do with her. Leeshela liked the fiesty young girl and took her in as her assistant and adopted daughter. Fieth works at the Ice Treader alongside Leeshela, running her messages and helping tally daily catches.
