Winter 66, 512
Enough was enough. The order of the city had begun to break down and something needed to be done. But what? And by who? The elders of the city had watched events play out without intervention for a long time, but that time was ending. A new time, one for action, was at hand.
The last straw had come when the murdered body of Gensen Iceglaze was found draped across a chair in his arvinta, poison was the determined cause of death. The shock that gripped the city spurred the elders into action. They would meet late at night in the Snowflake Club, a place only open to elders, to discuss the state of the city and their plans. By the 65th, all was ready though they were saddened that they could not act in time to save Kayin Frostfawn and Faycia Skyglow from the crime spree.
As Avanthal sleepily awoke the morning of the 66th, they found a strange sight. Elders were on patrol throughout the city. The oldest of the citizens who could no longer walk safely through the thick snow and slick ice that covered the city were carried by Icewatch polar bears who had been startled awake in their beds before dawn to provide mounts. The elders took turns patrolling the city, switching off with another every few hours for a nap and some hot apple cider.
Icewatch found itself forced to work with the elders’ plans. Fearing for the elders’ safety, Icewatch rearranged its patrols in order to have guards patrolling with the elders and keep an eye on them. At first the guards were at a loss of what to do as the elders had a very different idea of patrolling. The guards typically walked through the city politely greeting those around them and stepping in when a problem arose. The elders stopped most of the people going by to question them and what they were doing. The younger citizens especially did not appreciate being constantly questioned throughout the day regarding their decisions and destinations.
Most of Avanthal is curious to see what sort of effect the elders' presence has.
