19th Winter 512

It was a morning unlike any other. Except, for one young Vantha, that wasn't exactly true. Sera stood outside the Whitevine Healing Center, arms folded in front of her chest. She looked up at the building, remembering the few times she had been in there for various reasons. It was weird for her to think of the healing center to be a possible place for her to look for employment. As a kid, she never once thought she'd choose this path, but for the last couple seasons, she had been quite curious about it. She wanted to help people, make a difference. "Well, here goes nothing." She said to herself and nodded a hello to the couple Icewatch members standing outside the main entrance.

Once she got inside, she looked around. The inside was just as she remembered it. It was peaceful and calm, welcoming even. Yet, she was still nervous. Of course she had been warned about the Healer in charge of the place. Many stories were floating around about him, though she wasn't sure how many of them were actually true. But she knew he was the best healer in Avanthal and many respected him. She just hoped he'd like her enough to consider training her. Without hesitation, she approached the front desk and asked to speak to Seiled Whitevine.

OOCI’m really, really sorry it took so long for me to reply to you. Once the season changes send me a PM and we can talk about what this means in terms of wages and living expenses.

The young woman sitting at the front desk nodded as Sera requested to speak to Seiled. The woman stood from the desk and immediately went out to seek out the head healer. She was gone from Sera’s view for several chimes before returning with a Vantha man in his middle ages. The woman returned to her desk to speak to the next person waiting in line, a young man and his child who had fallen and skinned his knee. The man approached Sera and gave her a brief glance over. It wasn’t a judgmental sort of glance, just the look a practiced doctor gives any individual that sought him out. Seiled spent so much time healing patients he was very adept at recognizing subtle symptoms and ailments others might not notice.

“Hi, I’m Seiled Whitevine. Who are you and how may I help you today?” Seiled held out his hand for Sera to shake. His voice was even and carefully devoid of emotion without sounding bored. He took his professionalism very seriously and it showed. He was a serious man who oversaw a very important facility in Avanthal so he seldom had time to joke or exchange friendly banter. Seiled’s eyes were focused on Sera though occasionally he glanced over at the people waiting in line to be seen. His instinct was to immediately begin treating everyone at once but he knew how unlikely of a plan that was to succeed and attempted to remain focused on Sera.

oocIt's all good, I know how busy you are with everything! :) And, will do!

When the woman went to go get Seiled, Sera stepped to the side and took notice of the others in the room. There were a few waiting around to be seen. Sera noted that if she was able to find work here, that she'd have to put more trust in herself while dealing with people, s she smiled calmly at anyone that made eye contact while she waited. She needed to get over her bouts of shyness and also need to be prepared for working with those in need.

Then Seiled Whitevein appeared and Sera felt her heart start to beat faster in her chest. He seemed so important, and obviously wanted to get work done, for he was paying attention to everyone and everything that was going on in the room at once. She could see this in his eyes.

The Vantha girl took a breath, shook his hand, and then responded, "Hello sir, my name is Sera, I was wondering if I'd be able to be... trained to work here." She said, choosing her words carefully. Sera definitely didn't want to come off as someone irresponsible. "I really, would like to help people, though I'll admit right now, I do not have much experience."

Seiled took in her words with a neutral expression and nodded quietly. He didn’t reveal his thoughts easily and his eyes stayed a careful neutral brown. After Sera finished speaking he leaned on the receptionist’s desk with a small sigh of gratitude.

“Well Sera, since you don’t have much experience I think it’s best to be upfront in telling you that this is hard work. The hardest work because you see people in pain every day but you have to try and be emotionless to it. If you let yourself get worked up your judgment will be clouded and you could end up making a mistake that puts the patient in even worse condition. I’m not trying to scare you, I just want to be honest. There are good things about this job though. There are few things as fulfilling and satisfying as healing an injured patient. But you have to keep in mind, healing isn’t about your fulfillment, it’s about the patient.” Seiled explained and waited to make sure Sera had absorbed what he said.

“But I’m always happy to encourage people to take up the healing arts. Even if you come to find that this job is not right for you the skills you learn here will serve you all your life. There are always going to be injured people in need. Speaking of, I want you to help me see to a patient right now. It will give you a taste of what this work is like and it will let me see how well you handle yourself.” Seiled said and immediately looked at the people waiting in line behind Sera.

“What do you think? Are you up to a trial run?” Seiled asked as his eyes flicked over the line, searching for someone who needed immediate help but wouldn’t be overwhelming for Sera to deal with on her first time.

Learning to Heal (Valkyrie)

“Yes, I understand,” was all she could reply. It made sense that Seiled would say that. The warning was needed. Of course it would be a difficult job. Sera knew that when she started looking around for a place to work. She knew it would be incredibly difficult for her especially, considering how much she cares for people in general. But she wanted a challenge. She wanted to help. Though she did worry that it may not work out.

The biggest problem for Sera was that fact that she did not grow up in the Whitevine Hold. Along with that, her parents were very unhappy about what she wanted to do. She just hoped she could prove to them that this was a better place for her to work. Secretly Sera hoped to possibly marry someone from the Whitevine hold. She figured that would give her an “excuse”. But that was no way, the reason she was there.

As Sera had expected, Seiled requested for her to show him what she knew. The girl figured it was to prove to him that she was dedicated. So, Sera nodded, “Of course.” Then she looked around at the people waiting to be seen. “Alright...” She scanned the people waiting and bit her lip.

A man with his young son stood out to the young vantha. She tilted her head to the side, noticed that the man was tapping his foot to the ground, as well as noticed that the young boy was silently crying. “Could we go to them?” Sera asked Seiled as she gestured towards the two.
