6th Spring 513,
Evening, 19th Bell

The squire dormitories were as Fallon had been described. The housing was divided into suits which in turn had three sleeping rooms, a bathing room and a common area where those that lived in the suit could gather. By the looks of things however the sleeping rooms where small, or at least the room she as designated to was with its three beds each with their own chest. On the first day, the Fifth of Spring, Fallon entered sheepishly, her few belongings that she carried with her being carefully put away, either by being carefully slid under the bed or neatly folded and placed in the chest. It was also during this time that Orvin found his new place of rest, having chosen the the space also beneath her bed. Other than that there was little else that Fallon could do other than sit around in the silence of the common room, waiting for another face to appear and welcome her.

Yet for the most part there was no one. So in the silence of the first night, Fallon simply sat herself down, entertaining herself with the company of Orvin and the feeble attempt of trying to train him. It kept her up late into the night, and it was only in the early hours that Fallon finally let herself sleep. When she did awake she begun the process of trying to teaching him once more. Sitting herself this time in the common room with Orvin padding about before her before his attention finally became fixed.
Right, now to begin. Again.

Fallon quick learned that patience was vital when training an animal. Which was something she was struggling with after a while. She focused on the pup, her eyes meeting his, her hand hovering above his head with some of her rations placed on the table next to her. It wasn't much, but she remembered Orvin at least liking it whilst they travelled. Leaning over him she gently pushed the base of his back down, so he sat before speaking in a clear tone.
"Sit," she spoke cooly "You get that? Sit."
The pup looked at her with big eyes as she petted him. She doubted he understood, but it was a start never the less. She released him, and placed her hands on her lap. Swallowing, gave a nod to the creature.
"Sit?" she almost seemed to wince when she said it.
Orvin looked at her with a dumbfound expression, before he was guided once more with her hand. This continued on and off for bells, holding the attention of Orvin after all was a difficult task within the four walls of the dormitories, and in honesty there was times where her patience was lost and she felt annoyance bubble away at her.

When she was not trying to train the pup, she was often hovering over her writing book, head held in one hand, the quill in the other, a continuous motion of dipping in and out of the ink. Her imagination however had escaped her, and no matter how hard she tried to summon it back, Fallon found herself simply staring at the blank page. It was as evening came however that she had simply surrendered to the idea of trying to do anything. Her forehead now rested against the table, her book discarded to one side.
“Orvin, sit,” she mumbled as the pup came past once more. It looked at her with big eyes, and after a chime or two, lowered himself to the position “Good… wolf.”
I hope this isolation will end soon, she mused, I really can’t take it anymore.

[Squire Dormitories] Bunking

Postby Kreig Messer on March 5th, 2013, 5:52 pm

Kreig felt a bit overwhelmed to say the least, the realization he was in Syliras had yet to truly hit him...... the fact that he was no longer in Sunberth had not yet hit him. All in all he felt a bit numb as he sat in the boy's section of the dormitory. His belongings resting in the chest before his bed. The previous day, after the one armed knight approved of his becoming a squire, Kreig had felt such relief, even retaining Natasha as his patron brought him joy. But after that, as they helped moved his possessions and directed him to the dormitory he would be staying, that feeling of oddness began to form. As of yet, Kreig had yet to properly deal with many things before leaving Sunberth. He left that home without giving his goodbyes proper, his being unable to visit his mother's grave was the hardest and simply leaving was the hardest.

And now he was in a city where the people he knew could be counted on three fingers, and while grateful for their precense, it did little to replace that feeling of oddness. Suddenly as he rested upon his bed, he felt a suffocating feeling, a tightening sensation in his neck as the feeling of unease spread throughout his body. He immediately sat up from his bed, but felt sluggish as he did so, as he stood from his bed and appraoched his chest, he rummaged through it for his gauntlets. A precious memento from a father he never knew, a gift from a mother who'd been dead for many year and a memory of a city he could not return to for quite some time.

He caressed the minor dents and scratches, the bits of dry blood that drenched the knuckles. He slid them on his hand and immediately felt relief which only grew as he tightened the leather straps. He left the stuffy room and headed for the small hall that served as a leisure area for the squires, and imediately felt gratitude at seeing Fallon an Orvin "Couldn't sleep as well, I gather?" He asked as he put on a small, lazy, grin as he appraoched the too and knelt down as he scratched under Orvin's chin

[Squire Dormitories] Bunking

Postby Orion Michaels on March 6th, 2013, 4:02 pm

It really hadn’t sunk in with Orion yet. The Knights? Really? A doctor taking up sword and shield, ready to go to battle for the city. Well, eventually. Knight Captain Dinah Lorene had her work cut out for her. A lot of work would be required to get Orion trained and she’d barely let him handle a blade yet. ”You can barely walk in plate. How can you handle a weapon?” The woman had him jumping at her every command, and he could tell she enjoyed it. Orion didn’t really have any complaints, aside from every joint and muscle in his body constantly feeling like lava was rolling over it. He was worked hard, and he knew there was purpose behind each of her actions, each of her lessons. Each day there was something more to learn, and most often, something new to fail at. Break him down before bringing him up. She didn’t, after all, have the benefit of molding him from his youth. Instead, she had to squire a man in his mid-twenties who had none of the skills asked of the great warriors of Syliras. There really was no other option than to start from the bottom and hope he could adjust and keep up.

In their last session, Sera Lorene had said something that slightly ruffled Orion’s feathers. He’d had the privilege, at least for a couple of days, of living alone in a room meant for two others. It was fairly spacious for him alone, but add in two more grown men and it was going to get crowded fast. ”Don’t get used to it. You’ll have roommates and suitemates to deal with in the very near future.” They had moved in at some point the previous day, it seemed, but Orion’s schedule had him missing a chance to greet them. “Perhaps if they don’t line up, it can still seem like we’re living alone…”

Orion slowly made his way towards the entrance to his suite, taking a deep breath as he reached the door. For all the things he had to deal with because of joining the Knights, these living conditions were going to test him the most. He’d lived alone for years now, with multiple rooms. Alone. By himself. No. One. Else. The only time he’d had company was when he had company. If they weren’t going to warm his bed, currently warming his bed, or sleeping after an evening of bed warming, there weren’t other people in his room.

“So annoying..”

He opened the door, stepped in, and started to look around to see just who he would be going through these exciting times. Hopefully there was someone easy on the eyes. The no non-squires rule was going to be horrid.

Postby Perc on March 6th, 2013, 5:52 pm

Perc was feeling far beyond giddy as he was walking through the corridors of the squire dormitory, trying to find the one room that the kindly older woman had told him would be his home for now on.Meeting new people, standing on the very beginning of the road towards my dream? Now the people in my suite just have to be decent and nothing can ruin this day anymore. The tall farmboy thought as a massive smile was present on his face. He re shouldered the small backpacked filled with everything he himself owned to keep the leather straps from cutting into his shoulders and walked on.

Perc dutifully followed the path the woman had explained to him and even though he managed to get lost once or twice on the way he finally arrived at the suite that was going to be his. Through the still open door he saw three people already in the dorm, a young woman, an older guy scratching a wolf pup and another man who had seemingly entered the room just a few moments ago. The tall farmboy gave the open door a knock to pull the groups attention. "Heya. I'm Perc oakwood. I'm going to room with you guy's for as long as I'm a squire. Who are you guy's?" He walked further into the room, picked his backpack from his shoulder and dropped into one of the free seats giving the room a look around. The wide and friendly smile still on the youngish boy's face. "And who owns the little pup?" He really was intrested in that, he always liked animals, and the little guy was pretty cute.

And here I am, face down on the table, suffering in the defeat of writers block and a dead muse. With a pup to keep me company. Well, shyke.
She heard the heavy steps of Kreig come across the room, his voice sounding out as he stopped next to her. Not that she raised her head to greet him. Her mind was too sluggish and dulled to bring herself to meet his face.
“Definitely couldn’t sleep well,” she mumbled as she shuffled her hands so they were planted on the table “Guess you heard the news about us two then?”
It was at that point she forced herself to look up at him her, her eyes focusing on his small grin as he scratched at Orvin. The pup seemed to be enjoying it to say the least, for he bolted closer to Kreig with such speed and energy, his tail beating wildly as he did. He gave a playful yap and pressed a paw against Kreig’s leg, an attempt to get higher up no doubt.
“We’re both squires of Natasha,” she gave a sigh, before muffling a yawn. In her mind it was still too early for sleep, but her bored mind demanded it anyway. She rubbed her brow, and heard the door to the suit click open. Her eyes snapped up to it, her attention drawn to the man who stood there.
Orion.

Fallon went pale, if only for a moment. She felt hesitation grasp at her mind, before it became drenched in the other emotions that flooded in. Her eyes widened and she watched this familiar face hover before her, all thought having escaped. Her mind tried to grasp at something, anything a piece of reality that could ground her in some form. But what could she say after all this time? Hello, how are you? Was it really that simple? She had ran away, she raced away to escape and into the world beyond, but for what reason escaped her. She straightened herself, her brow creasing slightly as her focus came racing down from goodness knows where.
“Uh… hello,” she barely managed to say before the other came in.

It was then a third man entered, though he looked closer to her age in comparison to the others. Rough and ragged around the edges, but that was all she could tell by sight. Besides he seemed friendly enough, he spoke with a broad grin and without any real hesitation. Orvin looked towards the newest one to enter, and bounded towards him, shooting way from Kreif. It was someone new after all, a no doubt in the logic that it was a new person to play with. Slowly Fallon made herself stand, and drew her attention away from Orion.
“Fallon. Fallon Skylar,” she gave a nod to the cub “That’s Orvin. Pleasure to meet you Perc Oakwood.”
She inhaled deeply and calmed herself. The presence of an old time friend had indeed thrown her off, but she was not about to let it control her completely. All she had to do was try and stay one step ahead.

"Indeed I have" He grinned amusingly, while on the inside he was smiling like an idiot. When Natasha had told him he was so ecstatic that he had a dumb smile on his face for a bell or so. He knelt down to pick up the small wolf, gently placing him in his arms as he looked at Fallon "Well, not like I had any myself, you'd think a warm bed after such a long journey would be so welcoming" He grumbled as he continued scratching Orvin's chin. Then entered another individual who seemed to be quite the pretty boy. He gently waved at the man with a friendly smile then turned to Fallon, who suddenly seemed pale looking at the man and let out a week hello '....Something is not right....' Kreig was not a jealous man, but when it comes to matters of the heart there were some emotions that simply seemed to flare, as he it looked like Fallon saw something interesting withing the pretty boy, though that was simply Kreig's perception of the matter.

Then entered another man, from his appearance alone he seemed to be youngest of the current group. Immediately Fallon had left his arms and made his ways towards the newcomer 'Looks like a friendly enough gent' He thought as he returned a friendly smile "Hello Perc, pleasure to meet you. Kreig Messer from Sunberth, let us try and get along shall we?" he then turned to the pretty boy and asked "And I believe we have yet to recieve the honor of your name, who might you be if I may inquire dear gent?" It was a peculiar gathering one would suppose, as all were adults and all were fresh faced squires and lacked the skills required to advance to knighthood...yet.It was comforting for Kreig to know there were indeed others like himself who applied for squire hood at such an age in their life. It made him wonder of their reasons for joining...something he woul also ask Fallon since he never xpected her to join despite how joyful it made him feel.

He scanned the room quickly, opening his mouth as though to speak in greeting to the man he saw first. He meant to say hello. He meant to introduce himself to the people he’d have to deal with for the foreseeable future. He meant anything else but the words that escaped his mouth.

“..Fallon Skylar.”

His heart jumped, his stomach churned, and his soul ached as his gaze fell upon her. He could see the other man waving in greeting, the puzzled look on his face at the young woman’s reaction. He could see the same shock that Orion wore upon Fallon’s face, as neither of the two expected to see the other here. To be honest, Orion never expected to see her again. She sat searching for the same words Orion sought. A hello wasn’t enough with the history they shared; to explode with emotion would be a disservice to their friendship. Orion stared distantly at Fallon as he staggered over to a chair in order to support himself. His legs wanted to give out and it felt like his world was upside down. Then she spoke and it all came crashing down.

Hello?!

That’s what he got? After all this time? After how she left, despite the pleas, despite how unknown and dangerous it was? His face flickered with anger as she turned her attention from him to the young man who entered the suite behind him. Orion sat, turning away from Fallon and the newcomer, looking at the first man who he’d failed to initially reply to. “I’m Orion,” he muttered, nodding in greeting.

His gaze dropped downward, emotions running wild and furious internally while he was visibly seething externally. He’d get through this social engagement properly. It wouldn’t do him any good to yell at all of his new living mates. It would be a horrible foot to start off on.

Damn it, Fal!? Why did you come back like this? Why am I finding out like this!?

What an unexpected twist to his plans. What an unforeseen change.

Postby Perc on March 9th, 2013, 10:12 am

Perc didn't notice anything off in the way everybody was interacting at the moment. The woman who owned orvin was nice enough. And the man who was playing with orvin at the moment, dispite being from sunberth, didn't look a disagreeable fellow either. But he had to have some goodness in his heart if the knights took him in. Or at least some kind of honor.
"Nice to meet you both and I hope we all get along." He answered both kreig and Fallon. Before turning back to fallon. "I wonder though, is Orvin housebroken? I rather know beforehand that there is a chance he might pee on me." Perc joked. though he made a mental note to stow away his cooking supplies and utensils far and safely away from the pup. He didn't really fancy scrubbing poop of his small pots and pans in his backpack.

After the pretty boy had given everybody their name Perc spoke up again with the same big smile on his face. “Well, nice to meet you as well Orion. So now that everybody knows everyone by name at least, why not get each other to know a bit better? We are probably going to be stuck with each other for a few seasons anyway. No sense in being strangers with each other.” Without waiting for an answer if anybody was willing to go along with that perc continued asking his first question. “Why did you guy's decide to join the knights when you guy's were that old already?”Even perc's normally oblivious mind noticed how badly that was phrased when the sentence escaped from his mouth.” I mean, there is nothing bad about that. I also joined later because my dad needed me at the mithryn outpost to help with the farming there until my younger sisters grew up old enough to also lend a helping hand. I'm just curious.”

She was pleased when Kreig introduced himself despite Fallon’s moment of hesitation and fumbling with words. She gave a nod to Orion as he sat himself down, but otherwise was silent to him. She could hardly think clearly now her mind was racing around, looking for answers she could give to the man who now sat down. She watched his scowl, the flare of anger fill his face before he turned away. It was no surprise for his anger, but if things were to continue like this the night would turn to the worse and the atmosphere sour. She swallowed, and forced her gaze to shift to Perc and his questioning.
Shyke, not like this. Anything but like this. Her mind pleaded as Orion introduced himself with little more than a displeased grunt. Her face hardened, clinging onto a sense of calm where she could. Her heart however begged her to leave, to escape into the night once more. Of course, present company would not allow that. And to escape meant to throw away what she had just gained.

“Oh Orvin? He’s sort of… house broken,” she gave a shrug “I mean, he knows not to bite unless you pull his tail or something. And he sort of comes to you when you ask for him. Though teaching him other basics is a bit hard.”
She watched the pup turn his head to her, ears pricking to her voice. Although it was obvious he was enjoying the attention from Perc, Fallon was the obvious priority to him. So the pup bounded back over to her, largely ignoring the others before resting himself next to Fallon. She patted the pup on the head, forcing out a smile as she did.
“Why join the knights at my age?” She gave a frown “I was too busy travelling and seeing the world I guess. Nothing too fancy.”
And running away from your past, she thought as she awaited the answers of the others.

Postby Kreig Messer on March 10th, 2013, 1:29 pm

Now Kreig wasn’t quite as dim as to not notice the tension, it also helped that the Orion fellow had an angry and saddened look at his face when he saw Fallon, and Fallon’s own reaction and the obvious look that said ‘Get me out of here’ itched on her face ‘And here I thought this couldn’t get any odder, glad to see I was wrong’ He mentally remarked as he then heard Perc as the question who would have rather heard at a later time, perhaps over a nice meal, at a tavern and perhaps in a more cheerful environment than the one he, Orion and Fallon are currently enduring yet seemed to fly past Perc like he were the broadside of a barn.

After Fallon spoke of her own reason, Kreig scratched the back of his and looked up closing his eyes in annoyance but then looked at Perc “Well, to fulfill a promise to a friend who’s part of the knights and quite honestly I need a new home, not exactly wanted in Sunberth at the moment” He spoke honestly with a shrug ‘It’s also miserably lonely there’ he mentally added. He decided to sit down as he gestured for Orvin to come to him, hoping that petting him will sooth his own nerves.

He then gave a brief glance towards Orion, the man looked about his age, but he was taller than him, even young Perc was taller than Kreig. Now Kreig was far from shirt, but he began to notice a recurring pattern that nearly every male he seemed to meet happened to be taller than him and it was beginning to get on his nerves ‘Does everyone drink milk likes it no tomorrow, or does one of the gods think it funny to somehow make one such as myself self-conscious about his own height?’ And of course there were many who were shorter than Kreig, but the rate he’s meeting individuals taller than him was quite ridiculous. Now what did all this happened to have to do to this situation, absolutely nothing, it merely served as a distraction for Kreig’s mind away from the tense atmosphere.
