Oh, Hello! [Alexandra]

Spirit smiled at the advice, understanding completely. It made sense really. She’d always lived speaking and hearing Vani, and so had become fluent in it. She didn’t speak Common that often, so her skills were less so. She knew she thought and dreamed in Vani, so wondered if that would happen after a long enough period of time speaking the other language. It was interesting really, and was something she’d never tried before. Something gave her the sense that after this, Alex would speak to her in Common and just Common, and probably expect that in return. It was what she’d do in this situation, and was also implied in the woman’s statement.

When the Vantha heard her companion’s next statement, her heart soared. Three days! So soon! It sounded like this would be fun in the least, though, of course, it would be hard work. Whenever the girl learned something new, she was always very happy with it, but knew she had to focus and try hard when the person was explaining things to her, otherwise the entire lesson would be pointless. Once, when she was young, she’d spent an entire explanation about how to feed Wind dreaming about actually doing it, and about learning something new, and completely missed the entire thing! It had been quite embarrassing and humbling, so she knew to focus whenever teachers were talking ever since. It was just a stupid idea not to.

”That sounds great!” She said with a grin, almost bouncing. She wiggled her toes in anticipation, even though she was sitting on them, and it wouldn’t happen for quite a while. The whole ‘hand healing’ thing slightly annoyed her though, not because it postponed their lesson, but because she couldn’t do anything about it. Alexandra seemed to understand quite well to not move it too much, and after the snow, well… there wasn’t really much else she could do. Maybe a skilled Whitevine could shorten the length, but even with only three days left until it was better… well, most of the time the best solution was to wait. She sighed slightly, wishing she was better at medicine than she already was.

Oh, Hello! [Alexandra]

Alex grinned, happy to see that Spirit was so eager to begin learning the basics of martial arts. The location would have to been in city, of course, as going out into the wastes for Spirit's introduction would be rather pointless. The first part probably wouldn't involve any actual fighting, more going through basic motions and postures as well as some philosophy in regards to its uses.

The tall red head could safely say that she was rather excited by this prospect, to help another along on the path of martial arts was an interesting prospect. Spirit seemed to genuinely enjoy the idea, hopefully Alex would be able to keep her fascination alive as she didn't really know anything about teaching others. Hopefully that would become easier as this went along.

As for other dates of helping her, Alex was already working out the skeleton of a schedule. She did have her duties on most days, and she would need time for personal training of course, but other than that it would seem like she would have plenty of time to help Spirit learn all she could teach, regarding martial arts.

"Ah, well then all we need is a location. Hmm... I don't suppose you would mind hosting me in your home if it possesses some privacy?" Alex asked as politely as she was able.

It seemed like the best option really, if Spirit wanted to of course. Alex's home would probably suffice just as well, but it seemed better to conduct these lessons where her new friend would be most comfortable. All the pieces seemed to be falling into place, hopefully they would continue to do so. Alex thought over some of the basics, adopting the proper stance and holding it, as well as reaction would probably be big early on. Boring but it eventually became conditioned to be near second nature.

Spirit nodded excitedly after seeing Alex’s expression and hearing her reply. She wondered what she would learn! Punches, obviously, but she didn’t really know anything else other than that. The young Frostfawn wasn’t particularly knowledgeable in the fighting arts, except for random facts that she’d picked up from around the place. Like… which direction the head of an arrow points on the bow. It was half common sense; half seeing other people draw bows. That was the extent of her knowledge, so obviously it wasn’t much.

”Yup, I have quite a bit of room and privacy. There isn’t really much stuff in there… it’s mostly empty. So I don’t mind hosting” A sarcastic part of her mind muttered that it would probably hurt more if she fell, but at least there were fewer people to see her do it, but she ignored that. All the Vantha really focused on was the successes she would make, what she would learn, how useful this would be. She adjusted the position of her legs, crossing them in a slight mimic of her companion’s position. She rubbed her hands together in anticipation, still feeling as if the lesson would be right there and then, rather than in three days’ time. Her bright blue eyes scanned the room for no real reason at all, just looking around the large room. It wasn’t that full, but she spotted a few people she knew by sight. Maybe on another day she would have greeted them, but right now to conversation was focused on Alexandra.

”Mmm I can’t wait” She muttered, turning back to Vani on this general muse, as she wasn’t really paying attention to what she was saying. Realizing she’d just messed up slightly, she switched to Common.

”Oops. Sorry… uh, do you have a specific time in mind? Like, would you prefer it in the morning or something?” True, if it was in her Arvinta, she could just stay there all day and wait for Alex to appear, but that meant wasting her entire day if the woman wanted the lesson in the afternoon or something. Every day could be used for multiple things, if you had enough time, and it they did get together later in the day, she could do a whole plethora of things.

Feeling slightly like experimenting, she tried to think in Common during the conversation, and repeating her previous thoughts. She went over all that she’d mentally said, until she came upon the word ‘plethora’. It was a long word, one that she kind of liked, but she just couldn’t figure out what it was in Common.

What’s a ‘Plethora’ in Common? She asked, speaking in Vani this time. Just after she said that, she realized her mistake. What if the woman didn’t know ‘plethora’ in Vani, just like she didn’t know it in Common? She mused about this, considering the possibilities. It was such a long and unused word… This whole conversation made her giggle slightly, at how silly her little musings were. It was quite hilarious…

Alex smiled slightly at the younger woman's slip of the tongue, she didn't really mind it. She couldn't count the number of times she had slipped into common in this city, often speaking a little too quickly for native Vantha. The woman waved away Spirit's apologies, her expression kind.

"Don't worry over much about it, slips are quite natural." Alex said kindly.

Her next question had the tall red head thinking for a moment, trying to work towards her own normal training schedule. It was often very early in the morning that she conducted her sessions, usually when the sun was just beginning to rise. If one were to practice something for a long enough time then they could eventually achieve mastery, which is what Alex was aiming for. One day, she intended to share this path with others, to pass on her teachings hen she had learned enough from her travels. It would appear that Spirit was going to be her first student.

"We will begin early in the morning, when the sun is rising." Alex confirmed.

The words she said next in Vani confused her, she knew she was asking what a certain word meant in common, the woman just couldn't make out what the word was. It was rather funny, the language barrier that existed between them. The thought drew a slight chuckle from Alex.

"Sorry to say, I don't know what word you just said or what it meant." Alex responded with a smile.

Spirit nodded at the answer, a smile still pasted to her face. Well this was going to be fun! She nodded rapidly at the statement, excited already. She just couldn't wait! The questions about what she was going to learn rebounded inside her head, mimicking her emotions.

"Oh never mind..." She said after the last, laughing slightly. Trying to decode a word that neither of them knew in the other language would just take too long, and possibly end up becoming slightly irritating too. Or it could turn out well, but she didn't want to wait to find, as something had just come to her mind.

Wind and Silver! They were still waiting for her outside... and they must have been there for quite a while... and be so bored! She gave Alex a startled look, then an apologetic one. She really should go soon... now would be best. The Vantha hopped up to go, then remembered another thing.

"Oh yea... I have to go... but quickly, one thing:" She said with a smile, and moved back to where the woman was still sitting. She quickly gave simple directions to her room in the Arvinta (not like it was hard to find) but it was just to iron out any further complications. It would be hilarious and annoying if the red head waited outside or went into the wrong one! After explaining, she left the Red Diamond with a simple wave, hopping her way out of the building.

Once outside, she quickly turned to find her animals. To her surprise, Wind was sitting at the horse's heels, and there was not one complaint! After such a short period of time... they'd already gotten comfortable with one another. Well, Silver had become more comfortable with the sled dog. She laughed loudly and grabbed Silver's reins. It was time to head home... and this time, she would ride again...

Spirit heaved herself onto the horse's saddle, still straining her leg to reach the right height. Sitting in the seat, the girl lightly nudged her toes into her companion's side, and they started off, slightly less awkward this time. There were fewer near-falls, though she became quite unbalanced once when she turned around to check if Wind was following or not, or if they were heading too fast. Luckily, he had been just find with the slow speed, jogging beside the horse only a meter away.

OOCSorry about the quick ending... and the ending in general. I felt that the thread was coming to a close anyways, though of course if there was anything else you wanted to do... just PM me and I'll edit this ^-^

Notes:
I'm not sure where the comment about Alexandra hurting herself through magic came from, but I'd just like to remind you that magic is still viewed as something very dangerous (not that it isn't) in present day Mizahar, especially in cities like Avanthal so a normal person would not wish to learn magic. I don’t think word about the underlying slave trade in Ravok is common knowledge either, most especially to a city so far up north. I know Spirit's no normal person (I meant that in a good way, mind you!) but you'll have to be careful with these kind of things too. :)

The ending felt rather abrupt but I liked the interaction between the two characters so I didn’t mind at all. Adding in the shift in the language used for their conversation was quite the nice touch, too. Reading through your posts had become an enjoyable and refreshing experience, and I can’t help but love Spirit and her antics. It’s too bad that Alexandra had retired her character prematurely, but I hope that the two of you get to write with each other again in the future.
