Fallon swallowed as she looked upon the book with interest. She had purchased the book on novice Auristics a few days ago, but with the current events going on around her she barely had time to sit down and actually read it. Bare fingers stroked the cover her eyes tracing around the outside, before she opened it. Her eyes darted across the first line, her pulse quickening as a sense of excitement and adrenal made its way through her. She was going to teach herself magic. Fallon quickly looked about the suite, checking that there was no one else about and that they had all gone to training for the day. She heard the yawn of Orvin as the wolf cub patted about before her and settled himself on the floor, his eyes barely looking at her as she read.

She quietly read under her breath “Aurists can sense auras and a vast majority of them work with their sight first, and the other four senses… taste, touch, sound and smell… secondly. The latter are generally if the Aurist has been trained in also using them… Unlike other magics, Auristics is a passive ability, however in order to receive the full potential of it the Aurist needs to select a target and focus upon it. However when focusing there is the risk of abusing it, which can not only cause drainage… but also damage,” the squire gave a frown at that point and looked to the pup “Best be careful then.”

Orvin gave a snort, almost as if mocking her comment, before he rolled over onto his back. She continued “Matched with clever questioning and interrogation, Aurists can try to work out what is on a person’s mind. They cannot however read minds despite their supposed reputation. With slight changes made in the aura the overall issues upon a person’s mind can be determined.” She gave a heavy sigh at this point, before turning the page “Auras themselves can reveal the following; Physical properties, Internals, Emotions, Magical Activity,” it was at that point that Projection came into the mind of the squire and her eyes darted to her left hand.
Does that mean they can see my projection? she shook her head and forced herself to continue reading “Residual activity,” she gave a snort “Thank Eyris for making my life a little easier in that front… and Intent.”

The squire lowered the book to the bed next to her, stretching herself out as she ran the words through her head. Standing the squire quickly went to the door of the room, and poked her head around the suit once more. The others were still out in training it seemed, and so she still retained this momentary peace. She clicked as she padded back over to her book before picking it up once more “Right… where were we… let’s see… how to… how too…”

Careful fingers flicked through the pages of the book, skimming over pages as she looked for the page that would at least suggest on how to begin using the ability. She turned back quickly before leaning down close to the page “Ah… focus happens when a wizard consumes Djed to synchronize his mind with the targeted aura… hmm,” She drummed her fingers against her book. Although the girl understood about Djed, she was not sure how to do what was suggested.
Consume and use Djed, whilst focusing upon something. Find something to focus on… something… easy? She licked her lips and let her eyes drift around the room “Something easy… something…” Her eyes fell upon her companion “Orvin.” The cub’s ears twitched at response to his name, and the sleepy creature lifted his head to look at her. He gave a yawn, and returned to his side. He remained there for the rest of the time, his head upon his paws as he snoozed. “Right… let’s try this.”

Leaning over, the girl stared intently at the creature. Her eyes narrowed as she poured her focus onto it. She felt her eyes twitch, the balls growing dry as she looked upon the creature. White fur, dark nose, closed eyes. They darted and looked upon every aspect of his frame, narrowing down at the details. Her pup was to be her focus. She called upon her Djed, and felt it swirl inside her and awaken. Although she was competent at using it for projection, this new and different task would require it to be manipulated differently. Possibly. She brought the Djed up to her mind, and felt it run across her eyes. And whilst she stated she brought down her attention solely upon him. The world around her was ignored, blocked out completely by her single processing thought. If anyone were to come in though, they would think her to be simply staring out into thought. A slight advantage at the moment. She pursed her lips, as she felt the tug of Djed. Her mind reached out, feeling a pull at the information that was presented before her.

Nothing happened.

She tried again, feeling her lids contract. She felt them water, as the Djed continued to glide across. It plucked at her senses, the hum of a noise in her ears. But that too quickly fell away. Drawing in a deep breath, the girl gave a frown and relaxed her Djed for a moment and pondered.
I could rush the Djed to the eyes. But then there’s the risk of damaging them. Don’t want to rush it after all. And I sort of need to be able to see. Try again I guess.
She placed both of her hands on her knees, her eyes narrowing down upon the pup as she tried to focus upon him. The Djed bubbled, and rose, wrapping around her desired target once more. Her jaw tightened as she still leaned forward. Yet nothing that she wanted grew from there, instead only an annoyance and a flash of anger bloomed.

“Gods dammit!” she raised her voice, and the internal Djed shot towards her eyes.

She winced suddenly, clenching her eyes shut and shaking her head. It was no surprise to her, and she realised what had caused it as the Djed continued to brush against it. She felt the sting of eye strain, the build up of water and tears as she blinked repeatedly. Wincing she saw the blur of colour fall before her eyes, brief snapping flashes. She closed her eyes again, teeth grinding as clapped her hands over her eyes. She gave a gasp, and felt the Djed slip away. Hunching in her hands peeled themselves away.
That colour! she looked upon Orvin as her eyes adjusted to the room once more That colour… that was it… She wiped away the tears, and drew in a deep breath.I can do this. I know I can!

Drawing in a deep breath, Fallon recalled the feeling that came over her when she felt the djed rush, feeling where it went as she felt the side of her temples begin to throb. She felt the lines that it had made the residue of the rush. She shook her head as she stared down upon the floor, clearing her mind as she looked upon the grooves in the wood. She understood what it was for, she understood what it could show her, but getting there was the issue. She closed her eyes and rubbed at her brow. What was she doing wrong? What did she feel?

The surge of Djed from earlier felt like ice. Cold and freezing as it clawed its way across her eyes. She steadied her breathing and tried again, dragging her Djed up slowly this time from her pits. She felt it zigzag across her eyeball, lines drawing across the iris, following the same route as before. She felt it slip into her pupil, crawling down into her eyes. She shook her head as it began to chill at her, an untrained sensation working its way down into her sight.
“Stop… stop… stop!”

Her eyes looked upon the floor, a drip of sweat running down the side of her face. Her pulse had quickened along with her breathing, a dull drum beat in her ears as her sight adjusted. She continued to stare at it, the dulled colour of the floor hovering before her eyes. But that was not what had grasped her attention, or caused her to gasp with surprise. It was an ivory colour that stretched out beneath her feet, strange lines that shot out in all directions, circles linking them all up. For a moment she blinked at it, feeling her eyes watering once more. She dared not to move her head to look; to afraid that the moment she looked away it would vanish. She felt the pull on her eyes as the lines slowly began to grow sharper, clearer. She felt her knowledge buzz, an understanding growing from within as she began to tell things.

Worn, strong, deep smelling of… of… oak? She felt her pulse quicken more, her eyes beginning to strain as she looked deeper. Orvin yapped loudly. She turned her head sharply, and out of instinct to the pup. An instant regret. A bright blue caught in her gaze for a tick, before her head turned away. Her eyes screwed up at the intensity of it, hands clapping once more over her eyes as the djed pulsed there. Her head shook, her arms trembling as she willed it to calm. She felt it burn and snatch away, releasing its hold upon her sight. Her head went forward as she steadied her breathing, bringing herself into a state of calm as quickly as she possibly could. By finding calm she could assess the damage she could have potentially done to herself.

Opening her bleary eyes, she blinked, feeling them now looking upon the normal floor. She wheezed, feeling her eyes reluctant to focus properly. Her pupils dilated, darting away from the brighter sources. They felt sensitive, and tired. Then again, she also felt tired after that little attempt. Sucking in the air she looked carefully at Orvin who stood there looking at her with large eyes. She gave a smile and gently patted him “Think I’ll need to work on that one a bit more.”

Notes :
Nice. I'm not the authority on Auristics but most magic must be taught by another/takes awhile to pick up. I am not sure it would have come this "easily." Good try though.
