Ana had been focusing on the door that when the spirit fazed through it as if it were purely made of thin air, she jumped backwards, almost giving a yelp of surprise. What the petch?? Her thoughts rang instead. Do I still want to follow after? The question arose after momentary silence. It wouldn't do if she couldn't do the same as it, she would be unable to follow, but what other choice did she really have? Become a sitting duck and wait for the day time, or get out of there now, when the halls were still generally vacant at night besides the few guard or two?
Tentively she touched the doorhandle just as the whisper would come through the door, more of a voice tickling the edges of her thoughts, than a whisper. The tug on her pants by some unknown force, most likely the Spirit's, seemed to also tell her that she wasn't hearing things. Opening the door she slid past and into the darkness. Closing the door slowly on her way out.
The hallway was darkened, the torches that had been lit so brightly were now dimmed to mere embers trying to stay alive, and the air and temperature itself reminded her of the long Winter season. Even her breath fogged slightly in the very dim light of the torches.
Does this spirit have something to do with this cold, and darkness? She hadn't quite thought of something like this, nothing along these lines, but it aided her nonetheless. Hopefully she could withstand the cold long enough while under the cover of darkness. "We should move towards where I need to go, when we get to the more normal part of the city, the dark can be lifted." She whispered, unable to see where the spirit was, but she had to hope he could hear her.
"Until then, silence, speak only when needed."
No one seemed to be near just yet. The patrolling guards that had been in front of the door earlier must have walked past before the Spirit had worked its magic.
Finding the wall, she let her palm rest on it lightly, even the atmosphere made the stone almost unbearable to touch. Lowering her body by bending her knees slightly, and hunching her upper body forwards enough to make a small curve in her frame, spreading her feet apart to compensate for her weight. Ana let her fingertips graze along the wall to guide her as she started to sneak through the darkened passageways. The dark made it difficult to see in front of her, which was great for her stealth and all, but how would she be able to tell when someone was nearing beyond their voices?
Ana wasn't sure. Voices could be heard in front of the both of them, two voices, alarmed as the darkness came towards them, unable to immediately point out the small figure edging along the walls with the quick and quiet 'pit-pat' of footsteps.
Crap. I don't remember which way to go. She glanced behind herself for a moment trying to gauge if she would be able to tell which direction the Spirit was moving, if the darkness behind her flickered one way, or another. Speaking would be problematic for her with two guards so near, but she inched her way forwards, slower, as they would come to be just to the side of her and then behind her as she passed by without a sound.
As she passed, she heard the creak of their armor, closer than what she would have really wanted, and the short footsteps around as they stepped uneasely amongst themselves.
