18th Bell, 68th of Fall

The warmth of the tavern, contrasted from the chilly snow city, never failed to attract drunkards, travellers, and costumers alike. And being the only tavern in Avanthal, the Red Diamond Tavern certainly did not run out of people.

Sophia walked in, surveying a glimpse of the big room: aware of the noise, the gratifying stench of liquor, and a horrible feeling of malicious gazes focused on her. “Well, let’s hope for no inconveniences tonight.” She slightly poised herself and straightened her dress. “I’ll be in big trouble if it does.” Steering her way through the crowd, Sophia headed to the platform where a number of men awaited.

“You’re late... Again.”
“Carry on then. Now that she’s here, let’s start.”

The group held their instruments out, each with various tools and sizes. After a momentary pause, sweet old music started echoing in the tavern.

[Red Diamond Tavern] The Usual Night (Itchytell)

Itchytell opened the door of the familiar tavern. It was familiar because he would always come here when he was bored, or especially cold, to look at the drunks and various spectacles within. There was always hunters in there telling interesting stories. He especially loved the stories of large monsters that they swore they saw, and they would often bring some sort of evidence like a tooth, but sometimes to Itchy it just seemed like they were just lying to gain attention.

He would usually sit towards the back and stare, and often daydream before he had a reason to leave, which was usually because it was getting late and the more dangerous people would come at night. He never really drank himself, it's not like anyone would stop him, people were always nice, but he just didn't like the taste of the meads they had, what's the use of a flavored drink if it doesn't taste good? Maybe he was being ignorant, but he really did not care.

As he entered the tavern, he encountered that familiar wall of warm air you feel when coming from a cold place. It was especially warm today because the blizzard cut right through his coat. For this reason, the tavern was packed with drunks, hunters, regular kindly folk, and "women of pleasure" looking to escape the frigid air and the blustering snow. He looked over the room and spotted a round table towards the back, which was often a rare site. He pushed his way through people and chairs alike and arrived at the table, where he shrugged his snow covered coat off and hung it on the back of the seat.

He sighed and murmured "Should have gotten something to drink." However he was to rested to get up again, and the warm air had slowed his brain. Just as he sat he heard music starting to play, with a nice flute addition to the music. Perfect. He placed his hands behind his head, closed his eyes, sunk down, and enjoyed.

"I'm up for a break." Sophia signaled the group as she went down the platform, realizing that her flute is not necessary for the next batches of songs.. The tavern got more cramped than the hour ago, busier than ever, each and every costumer doing as they please: drinking rum, bragging about their own tales and stories, chomping up some food, talking and laughing, and drinking even more.
Sophia walked towards the bar, acknowledging and replying towards every notice and regards from some men and women that greeted her as she passed by. She recognized them of course, those familiar faces that is in the pub every night. She even knew some names- it was a worker's obligation to know the names of the patrons, so as to pay gratitude for spending great amounts of mizas for the tavern.

After some chimes of countless chitchats, Sophia finally reached the bar, leaning towards the counter. "I'd like a mug of hot chocolate please. Oh, and also a loaf of bread." throwing a sweet smile towards the bartender; In which, the bartender lavishly followed.

"Now, somewhere to sit onto." she told herself as she searched for some vacant place to eat her meal. There were, considerably, a very few seats available, most of them near a group of drunk men hunched around a table. "NO. I certainly am not going to sit there." And after a couple of browses, she finally saw one-- a table, quite far form the platform, and with only one man sitting near it. In a crowded tavern, personal space was never an option. Besides, the man seemed harmless.. Sophia never knew the man, but she knew that she was native, generally based on the clothes he wore an his Vantha features.. Holding up her tray, Sophia silently approached the table, inspecting the man near it even more. "Seems like he's sleeping." recognizing his slouching posture and shut eyes. Sophia sat on the table, trying her best not to make noise, so not to wake the man. She held her bread and took a small graceful bite from it.

It's not a good idea to sleep in a tavern. Actually, it is not a good idea to sleep in any crowded place at all, as you will quickly become the object of mummers, pranksters, hooligans, and pickpockets. Itchy knew, because he had one drawn a face on a sleeping bum to the amusement of others. He did not really feel good about it afterwards however.

Gotta stay awake He made a grimace with his eyes shut, thinking about how tired he is. As he leaned forward to rest his head on his hand, he opened his eyes a bit and realized there was some sort of form in front of him. His eyes focused quickly and realized that it was actually a person. He jumped in his seat, and let out a "Woahhh!" quickly sitting up, wide eyed.

He looked at the person for a chime and realized, to his relief, it was just a woman. A rather cute one at that. Eating silently on some bread. She apeared to be a Vantha, and looked sort of familiar, like he's seen her working here or something before.

"Y'know, you shouldn't be sneaking up on people like that."
He rubbed his eyes which were now transitioning from a terrified black to a calmer blue, brushed his hair back and sat up once more.

Gleefully nibbling her lunch, Sophia suddenly heard an alarmed "Woahhh!" coming from the other side of the table.. She looked forepart, finding herself looking at the once sleeping man. "He looked shocked. Well probably 'cause I came out of nowhere..." Investigating the appalled man, she met his gaze. All she made clear of is that he was not a wandering traveler-- he is a Vantha-- as she saw the color of his eyes shifted."Y'know, you shouldn't be sneaking up on people like that." The man responded, breaking the established momentary silence between them.

"Well he was right. I shouldn't be sneaking in the first place." Sophia thought. "But there was no other table to eat at, besides he was asleep. So how can I even ask for permission to have a seat." Her mind protested in defense. She looked at the man for the second time, analyzing a quick overview of him. He looked somewhat fit, but not a body builder; Nor was he tall, and he seems to be at his teenage years."Hope I won't cause trouble tonight."

"I.. I am terribly sorry for disturbing you." Sophia stood up, asking for dispense. "It is just that I can't find any other table to eat on. But if it troubles you, I'll be on my way and find another place." She dolefully said, on the act of standing up and picking her tray of food.
"Don't even try to eat me. I'm Full of sugar."

The instant he finished his sentence he realized that it may have come off as rude, as sort of snppt. He didn't mean it to come off as rude, it was actually supposed to be playful. Just as he was thinking this she replied,"I.. I am terribly sorry for disturbing you."

Disturbing? She thinks i'm angry. He realized. It was probably the tired angry face and the bad attempt at sounding playful. In fact, she actually helped him in his efforts to stay awake. He then noticed she was getting up.

"W-wait I"
Now look what you've done, you've scared her off stupid! Now she's going to leave. Well it would be nice to have someone to talk to, he was always in the back by himself most of the time. The girl then said "It is just that I can't find any other table to eat on. But if it troubles you, I'll be on my way and find another place."

She was right about the table thing, the place was packed, and it was hard for him to find a place to sit himself, much less a vacant spot. "N-no I'm sorry." He said apologetically. "Please, sit." He motioned towards the seat she was just sitting in. "I'm sorry I was just a bit tired, and haggled y'know? I didn't mean to come off like that, s-sorry" He scolded himself inwardly for saying "sorry" so much like an idiot.

"My name is Itchytell." He smiled at her a very boyish smile and placed a hand on his chest to indicate that he was indeed the person he was naming. "What's your name?"

"W-wait I" she heard the man mumbled. "..wait..." Sophia felt the word echo through her ears, "Is he.. telling me to stop?" she went into a sudden halt. Her sad blue eyes hued into a deep green, as if showing felicity.

"Please, sit." Sophia can't contain her joy at the moment. "Guess I won't be looking for a new seat then." Her cheery smile drew back into her face. Turning back towards the man, she heard him muttered "I'm sorry I was just a bit tired, and haggled y'know? I didn't mean to come off like that, s-sorry." The redundant "sorry" makes her feel that the man really is. Though Sophia found no particular reason for why he asks for apologies. Looking at him, she caught a slight crimson in his face.

After a brief instant, he seemed to regain composure, saying "My name is Itchytell." introducing himself in a refined manner. "What's your name?" "Hmm... Itchytell, that is a funny name..." she thought, with a grinning expression in her face.

A moment later, she suddenly recalled the question as if coming from a quick trance. "She's asking for your name! What are you waiting for?!" And without further ado, dropping off her tray onto the table, she responded, she gestured a "curtsey" so as to show etiquette, "I am Sophia... Sophia Snowsong. I work here at the pub as a musician." She said, elegantly straightening her posture and gleefully sits down her chair.

Noticing that she doesn't see the man every night at the tavern she asked "So, what brings you here?" as she took a bite from what remains of her loaf.
"Don't even try to eat me. I'm Full of sugar."

He felt bit relieved when she agreed to stay, he didn't want her to leave with the knowledge that he is a very grumpy person who doesn't like people. And what if one day I get into trouble, like some sort of wild animal attacks me, or somehow I find myself dangling from a cliff and she is the only one who happens to be there, and she refuses to help me because I am a horrible person and I deserve to die, you gotta think about these things sometimes. The logic that this meeting wasn't enough to really leave such a mark didn't cross his mind.

The girl then said her name, "Sophia" which he felt is a very pleasant name, it has a soft fuzziness to it. She also mentioned she worked here at the pub which was surprising because he never really saw her, maybe that's because he never really payed attention to the musicians, but would rather get lost in the next man's stories. The musicians to him seemed more like atmosphere "supplementers," like some kind of ominous wisp in the air playing music to lull your mind and dull the sharp cackles that sometime pierce the air sporadically.

What really caught him off guard however was her curtsy. The women around here are very rough and "independent," not to be mistaken for unpleasant, but they really didn't take shyke from anybody. He felt in that instant, that he should give some sort of gesture of equal gratuity, maybe a bow? But how odd would they look bowing and curtsying among people slapping each others backs and hugging ferociously. She was very elegant which really stuck in his mind, very dainty.

As he was staring at her thinking it didn't come to him that she posed a question. It was a dull roar in the back of his mind as he tried to figure her out. His mind did bring it up to him, and he only realized when she sat back down and began to eat again.

"O-oh uh hehe, yea my house is a ways away from here and I am not walking out there in that blizzard."
He smiled and let out a small chuckle and then said "I swear sometimes this weather makes me feel like a warm-blood" He smiled again and gauged her reaction.
"So uh, you said you work here as a musician? What instrument do you play?"

[Red Diamond Tavern] The Usual Night (Itchytell)

Sophia took a quick glance at the room. The drink started making its magic towards the drinkers: the crowd got more drunken and frenzied than the usual. Noise gradually escalated inside the large room, but enough to hear their conversation; Sophia hardly heard what Itchytell was talking about; they are in a tavern anyway. She heard him state something about his house and the furious blizzard. “Yes, the blizzard sure is quite strong out there .If it continues, the crowd might as well be stuck here in the tavern for the whole night.” She inferred. “An endless night for men and their ale. “

Just as Sophia finished her food, she heard the man speak again. “...What instrument do you play??”
In response, Sophia gleefully waved her flute. “My flute isn’t needed for the batches of songs, so I am taking a break.” Being the only girl and the newest one in the musician’s group, she was not in close ties with them despite being from the same hold. They just let her join in at some songs, and have her scram during the rest.. Sophia felt a little bit underestimated for that.
“Let the men play with their toys.” She jokingly added, pertaining to those musicians. “I never really liked them, so as them to me. I just worked here for the money.” Sophia truthfully reasoned out.
So as to change the topic, Sophia queried the young man in a sweet and casual way, careful not to pose an interrogative mood. “Now that I’ve said my story, let’s talk about you. What do you do for a living?”
"Don't even try to eat me. I'm Full of sugar."

[Red Diamond Tavern] The Usual Night (Itchytell)

As Sophia waved her flute Itchytell recalled the flute he had heard before he (almost) went to sleep. He felt like saying "So were you the one who was playing when I was about to sleep?" But that would be sort of a stupid question to ask, because she did say she played the flute, and she wouldn't know he was awake at the time she was playing.

The question of his occupation came up. In the light of her work, his work was not equal unless you where as legendary as the Tin-Man. He is a self-proclaimed street performer, which is somewhat of a glamorized name, he makes money for entertaining people. It's sort of hard in a culture that thrives on storytelling and the arts, but the blood of the performer are in all Vantha, you just have to tap into it.

Truthfully he did not want to embarrass himself in front of the girl so he said "I don't have a job as of yet." That, to him, was better than a street performer, it is better to have a clean slate than one filled with bird excretions. However Ichytell couldn't resist lying to someone who deserved the truth at the moment, so he gathered up his dignity and said "But sometimes I perform, like in the streets...a street performer." He gave a nervous "Heh" and looked down at the table.

This would be a good time to do that trick I was making up, he thought. "Hey do you wanna see a trick?" He really didn't wait for a "yes," because why say no unless you were leaving or something? "Alright for this trick I am going to cut off and reattach my fingers!" He stood up and pulled out his heirloom cold iron dagger and placed his hand on the table.

"Are you ready?" The question was only rhetorical, and was meant to make the audience feel "comfortable" as he would quickly after swiftly bring down the knife on his finger. He did this now, but a millisecond before he hit his finger, he pulled his hand back as if he had cut his finger and began shouting in agony. To make it even more intense and realistic, he began rolling on the floor, clutching his hand. He then stood up on his knees and but his "injured" fist on the table, concealing the unharmed hand with his other. "Oh my gods..I think my finger is..." He did the old nub trick, concealing his unharmed thumb underneath the other fingers, to make it look like a nub, and only revealing the top of his other thumb between two other finger in his clenched right hand. He presented them together, giving the illusion of an intact left thumb, being held in his right hand, then he pulled it apart, giving the illusion of pulling his finger apart. He widened his eyes dramatically and said "Well isn't that something." In a more humorous manner.
