All joking aside, it is my hope that Edmund will be an overseer of Blackssugar (that's what it's called) and a hulking Benshira will definitely be useful for such a person - first for general labor, and then keeping the other slaves in line. That doesn't mean Hirem will be hurting the other slaves, but his intimidating presence will appease the other overseers and he'll be free to use whatever methods he wishes, not necessarily physical violence. Depending on how things go, he and Edmund might end up becoming rather similar.
The biggest question will be whether I'll have the funds for an actual open auction. I'm not entirely sure what will happen to my purchase with Kai either if I do convince Vice and Ed turns out to be an overseer, since the purchase of a personal slave would not be in Ed's immediate interests.
In short, there's quite a bit to sort out, but I'm willing to do it.

Just to make it crystal clear: we're going to keep the plotting/planning to a minimum. Everyone seems to be in favor of that and I certainly agree that letting things run their course is much more fun. Besides, you can't prepare for everything.
So really, what it comes down to is this:
1. We need to know if Edmund gets his position as an Overseer.
2. We need to know if Edmund will have the funds to purchase Hirem.
3. We need to know if Hirem is OK with becoming a quartermaster (I really don't know the right word for his job, but look up ^ to what Ed said about it)
Once that is all done, all that we need to do is fire up some threads!
@Hirem the job Edmund is offering you strikes me as highly suitable for setting up an underground slave network. He'd be with the slaves all the time and Edmund strikes me as a not particularly cruel overseer. As such, you could probably have a few chats with other slaves without too much trouble.
I don't mean this is a marketing sort of thing, but I truly can't think of a better postion than that for what you wish to achieve.
Edmund, I am very glad you're willing to go along with these plans. I am confident it will be very nice for Edmund's character development though. His good nature will be tested, and it will be fascinating to see how he will cope with it.

@Edmund, if you could drop a note here if you get that position as an Overseer, that'd be great. If it is denied to you, please let us know also so we can either adapt or abandon these plans.
