Here is where you can submit any complete NPC, location, flora, or fauna write ups for review and approval. I may comment on submissions if something doesn't fit quite right with the lore or there's any grammar upsets before its fully approved. Other player's are free to critique and comment on submissions as well, feedback is important! If you have any questions on whether an idea is plausible or not, feel free to PM me and we can chat about it before you launch into your write up.

Below are listed some templates you can use when compiling information for development. Please try to format locations and NPCs to the style that is already being used in Black Rock. Images to go with submissions are recommended, but optional, any images posted here, however, MUST be hosted in Mizahar's galleries. Contact an ST with questions.

This is still kind of a touch and go with more being added or fixed as I figure it out, so feel free to comment or criticize.

Image: Still Working

Name: Grand Marble Shrike

Common Locations: Marblethorn Groves / Around Black Rock

Frequency: Uncommon

Characteristics: Grand Marble Shrikes are a creature indigenous to Black Rock, though they had remained largely unstudied until the discovery of the Marblethorn groves. It is a bird of prey, meaning it will hunt its food throughout the island and sometimes into the coastal areas. Marble Shrikes are primarily carnivorous and live off of fish and small mammals, though reptiles and large insects are certainly on the menu. They have high survivability even when food is low, lasting up to a week with up to their body weight in food. The average adult Marbe Shrike weights about 21 pounds (9.5 kilograms) and has a wingspan of approximately 118 inches (300 centimeters), with females being marginally larger than males. Their lifespan can be upwards of twenty years, or more in captivity.
What makes the Marble Shrike unique are its long, sharp beak, crushing stone-like talons and vivid array of large monochromatic feathers with a tail tipped in long ball-tipped feathers similar to a peacock's. Rows of alternating black and white adorn its body from beak to claw. At the end of the tail are five feathers, each tipped in a tuft reminiscent of a cotton swab, elegantly patterned in circular figures of black and white. These are largest in males, who also have a crested head and theoretically use it as a tool to attract suitable mates. The shrike may use them as a lure by generating a sweet, intoxicating chemical exclusive to these feathers and perching perfectly still on the branches of a Marblethorn to attract animals and insects to them. When the shrike captures prey, it binds it under its large talons am
0pnd either drops or thrusts it upon sharp rocks, protrusions or branches to impale the creature, where it will remain and slowly die. The Marblethorn tree has the interesting property of slowing down decay gives the bird's food a shelf life.

Social Structure: Because the Grand Marble Shrike is such a proficient hunter, they live a solitary life. They are not very territorial, especially when food is in abundance so seeing two or more in the same immediate area isn't impossible, though their limited population makes it unlikely. Every Spring, the Marble Shrikes enter a mating season, where the males will often perch with their wings open and tail hung for extended periods of a time in the hopes of attracting a good mate. Once a couple has been made and procreated, the female will lay one egg on average per year. Sometimes they lay no eggs, sometimes males simply opt out of the search for a female. Pairings usually last the year until the next mating season, or until any hatchlings are able to set off on their own.
Marble Shrikes do not see much interaction with humans. They are not typically hostile to people, though they tend to avoid the city and populated areas where hunting is limited the terrain isn't favorable. However, they should still be seen as dangerous as they are very large birds of prey who won't shy away from a fight to keep outsiders away from their dwellings. As they are intelligent birds, some has sought to study them, though their size and habits would make them very difficult to handle in falconeering.

Miscellaneous: Must have Help Desk permission to create as a Kelvic PC.
(((because they're huge, about 1.4x the size of a Bald Eagle at their peak, to be exact)))

Name: The Death Toll

Location: Between the Black Marsh and Black Rock Mountains

Description: Cleverly named as a play on words for cost of life, the Death Toll is a long tunnel spanning a little better than half a kilometer which connects the end of the Black Marsh with the interim of the mountains where Dira's tower and several other locations preside. Much of this mostly-artificial passage is lined with steps on the steeper inclines for individuals to traverse it much more easily. The rocky walls are an eerie mix of black and white marbles, quartzes and dark earthen tones. It is a popular route for commerce or travelers as the mountainous terrain surrounding the Death Toll can be hazardous and weather can be severe at the higher altitudes. There is no actual toll, though there is a checkpoint and rest stop usually overseen by a ___, as ghosts do frequent the tunnel; a single Ashl may be paid there per one-way trip, though it is optional and supports the ___ who keep the way safe. There is an old superstition that if one does not pay the supplementary Ashl when traveling through the Toll, their trip will be filled with hauntings and supernatural unpleasantries.
The Death Toll is more than just a route through Black Rock, but a place of paranormal activity as well. The natural portions of the tunnel was foamed during the Valterrian and slowly molded by death's presence. It is said that when one enters deep thought throughout the cave, they can see glimpses of the deaths of those who once traversed the Toll and even sometimes those who will in the future. The individuals in the sights are never known by or related to the one seeing the visions, but mere random strangers. There is an old warning passed down to new travelers that if the death they see is their own, it is a sign that they have angered Dira and their fate is sealed and quickly approaching.

This is kind of an active work in progress for making some of Traverse's suggested edits.

Image:

Name: Ashl Fox

Common Locations: Black Rock proper (rare) / Wilderness

Frequency: Rare

Characteristics: Ashl Foxes are small vulpine canids that have managed to make Black Rock their home centuries ago, after the Valterrian divorced Black Rock from the motherland and stranded them. The aftereffects of the Valterrian have arguably affected them less than most other creatures to survive it, with their development being aided by the isolation of the isle. The Ashl Fox is no larger than a house cat, lined in white or vanilla fur with black rings around its feet and stripes over its eyes and tail. Its fur is thick and soft like its arctic brethren, though tapered around the legs and paws. The name Ashl Fox, a recent conception, derived from their strange inherent desire to collect Ashl coins and their inexplicably being drawn to them like a compass. No one truly knows why they do save perhaps Dira herself, but many an explorer or traveler has returned a few coins poorer after encountering one. They are incredibly cunning and agile creatures who are said move like a whisper and have grown out of a fear of people or ghosts. While they try to avoid the more civilized areas for the most part, a rare few have also been taken and domesticated as pets throughout the years for their cuteness and predisposition to people; their rarity and difficult training only lending further to their high value.
Folklore has it that a roaming fox once stumbled upon the aftermath of a hunt that claimed the lives of its mate and offspring. The fox was unable to forget the events or the pain it caused, devoting itself to taking down the hunter. When it had finally discovered him, an ominous masked figure stood over his lifeless body. The Omen looked over to the fox, noticing the pelts the man possessed, kneeled over and handed the fox a single Ashl which is said to contain the soul of that malevolent hunter. It is said that since that day, the fox and all its descendants collect the Ashl as a way of revering Dira and remembering those taken short.

Social Structure: Like most foxes, the Ashl Fox live in families until and sometimes beyond adulthood, let free into the world upon the coming of age to fend for themselves or protect their group's carrying vixens. They hunt for themselves and their diet consists primarily of fish and the occasional fresh meat. Ashl Foxes seldom enter the more civilized areas to scavenge or scout for loose Ashl.
Ashl Foxes pose only a moderate challenge to domesticate and train, though their inherent mischief and thievery is difficult to erase. They are very rarely seen as pets, both few and far between, due to the efforts required to find, track, capture and breed or train them.

Name: Crab's Nest or Nesting Weed

Common Locations: Although common through out the Southern Suvan Sea, this plant is most frequently found a few miles off the coast of Black Rock. Taking full advantage of the cover provided by the cracks and crevices that naturally occur near the islands coast, it can grew at any depth and overall prefers rocky or sandy sites to grow.

Frequency:
Can be found commonly in small clusters but on rare occasions has been found in some places to cover vast tracks of the sea floor. These infestations, if found by Charodae, are normally destroyed soon after.

Description: Coloured a shocking red colour, Crab's Nest is a fast growing weed that appears as a tangled mass of hardened jelly like vines. Highly toxic to surrounding plants and coral, it is removed on sight by the Charodae whom consider it a pest. If eaten, it causes a prickling sensation in the mouth along with the strange desire to eat more of it. If a substantial quantity is consumed, the eater will start to experience a loss the feeling in their hands then their limbs, followed by general a pins and needles of the skin and finally paralysis of the heart and subsequent death there on after. Prolonged contact with the plant can also cause numbness of the effected area and the malfunction of muscles. It's name comes from the Char understanding of the term 'Nest' meaning the place where a creature sleeps.

Uses:
The most common use for the plant is simply as a poison, taking full use of it's naturally paralytic and addictive qualities. However it has been discovered that through careful philtration that in small doses injected in to the patient, Crab's Nest can be used as a way of relieving pain.

Miscellaneous (Plant Value): The plant itself is common enough to be cheaply found on the market, although finding someone willing to collect it for you is not. Both Iyvess and Charodae outright refuse to buy or sell it in any form, however both philtered and poison versions can be bought from of sources from between 12-18GM a dose depending on the seller.

Notes:
Can be identified with Herbalism L1 or Aquiculture L1
Can be successfully harvested with Herbalism L2
Poison can be made with Poison L1 and philtered version can be made with Philtering L3

Name: Violet Shallow Kelp. Nicknamed 'Blood Leaf' by the Svefra and 'Fish Rot' by the Charodae

Common Locations: Sometimes found in rock pools or around the edges of beaches; V. Shallow Kelp, like it's name suggests, grows best in the low water surrounding many of the islands in the Suvan; including Black rock and remarkably some areas of the Falyndar main land coast.

Frequency:
Normally found growing sporadically in clumps of twenty or so plants. It is Uncommon to ever find these groups in any great frequency.

Description:
Appearing as a small group of thick rubbery, branching purple leaves, V. Shallow Kelp has surprising hard base linked to a deep root network to prevent the currents uprooting it.

Uses:
This coastal seaweed is a natural excellent source of minerals and vitamins, in particular it's high iron concentration that gives it a blood like taste that Charodae seem to despise. Despite this; it is the first thing given to anyone that feels unwell or sustains a notable injury, especially those of an extremely young or extremely old or fragile nature. The leaves of the plant can be eaten raw or gentle heated over a hydrothermal vent and above the water are often found in herbal teas or medicinal syrups.

Miscellaneous (Plant Value):
Easily found in any seaside market fresh or as a medicinal syrup and is especially common in any Charodae community in the Suvan and Charbosi. Fresh Leaves cannot be found outside the Suvan but the syrup can. Fresh leaves normally sell for 3SM/oz; syrup costs roughly 2GM a dose.

Notes: Can be identified with Herbalism L1 or Aquaculture L1.
Can be harvested with Herbalism L2 or Aquaculture L1.
Requires Herbalism L2 to make into syrup form.

    The Lady Lyrical

    Image

Possibly one of the ugliest locations in Black Rock, The Lady Lyrical is made of faded wooden walls, with a roof that looks closer to caving in than giving off any actual shelter. The windows have grown foggy over the years making it impossible to peek inside and the structure gives off a faint musky scent. The door, in traditional Black Rock fashion, is of course unique, with the wood having intricate swirls burned into the surface. At the top are two names inscribed, one of a man, and another of a woman that has long been scratched out violently by some sharp object.

While The Lady Lyrical is an eyesore, within its rustic interior floods some of the most soulful music to ever be played upon the island. Any and all musicians go to The Lady Lyrical for their needs whether it be to purchase an instrument or to repair one. The owner, Kai Deroux, is a relatively young man for his extensive knowledge on musical instruments and ability to play nearly any song immediately from ear. He specializes in the violin, however, his shop boasts of it's impressive collection of almost every instrument you can think of.

When inside, a customer is greeted by Kai who is often sitting at the counter, papers spread in front of him, writing his own music. He will then greet the newcomer warmly and begin rambling about his passions if one is not quick enough to intervene. Kai believes that there is a musical instrument for everyone, and some are more suited for for you than others. He loves to share and express this philosophy, often losing himself in the process.

Other than leading the customer into next rooms, where violins hang from the walls, flutes sit perkily on their shelves and drums wait to beat, Kai Deroux also crafts his own instruments. For a proper, and quite expensive price, he is capable of creating something for the master musician. But that is quite unlikely. Quite, quite unlikely.

    Products/Services (If applicable)

    Lessons
1 season worth of lessons 33 Ashls
1 month worth of lessons 8 Ashls
    1 days lessons (3 bells) 2 Ashls

Note: To have a personal instrument crafted by Kai, you will need a moderated thread or ST permission. Kai has only ever made an instrument for his late wife, and requesting he do so again has a significant chance of failure.

    NPC Info

    Kai
    Kai Deroux
    Race: Human
    Age: 34 years
    Gnosis: Audius I
Position: Owner of The Lady Lyrical
    Skills: Instrument: Violin - 55, Instrument: Lute - 44, Musical Composition: 40, Crafting: Instruments - 30, Instrument: Flute - 20
Other: It took a long time for Kai to come to terms with death, and even longer for him to respect it. He wasn't like the others on Black Rock, who not only understood it, but revered it. When he came here, it was in his late teens, with a girl he had just eloped with. Their love was fast and passionate. After being disowned by their families they ran off to the island, unaffected as long as they had each other. Both Kai and his young wife only had a few mizas in their pocket and love in their hearts.

A few years went by, and they struggled. Both musicians, they found themselves playing for money, and they were soon a duet that couldn't be stopped. Often commissioned by business' here and there, whether it be for Illistrid's dancers at performances, or songs for Kristin's plays, the two soon became quite the respected pair in Black Rock.

Never seen without the other, they eventually saved up and bought a reasonable sized business. They invested everything, worked day and night, offered lessons. It was during this time they both received the first mark of Rhaus. The music never stopped, and their love was stronger than ever. As a token of affection, Kai crafted a custom harp for his wife, and supposedly hasn't made another instrument since.

Then tragedy struck, as it usually does. Amara grew sick from a fever and no one could find the cure. Kai tried everything, but nothing worked. She passed away in her sleep, leaving Kai with an overwhelming pain. The Lady Lyrical, which had been named after his wife, began to grow drab in appearance. Amara had always been the one to worry about its upkeep, but Kai had no more desire. For months and months, there was silence. Those that visited reported many of the instruments to be missing or destroyed. Eventually, his friends began urging him to play, if not to help earn money to keep the business afloat Kai did not care. When he did play, nothing but the angry hissing of strings would sound, as if a demon had come from his fingertips and possessed the instrument.

Rumors began to spread. "Kai just misses Amara.. He's been flirting with Dira... He wants to die." In truth, Kai resented that his wife never returned to him in the afterlife. Eventually, time went on, and when he was on the brink of losing everything, some say that Dira approached him. No one knows if this is truth, Kai refuses to discuss the past. But, out of nowhere the music started again. He began playing, and crafting. He began writing. The song that he is so often seen scribbling when those enter is supposed to be one he is writing for his lost love, and has yet to be completed.

Employment and Training Info (if applicable)
If one can convince him, there might be some work helping to repair and revive the building. The work would fall under laborer at 1 ashl a day.
